Sadie was too close to the place she ran away from.

Long ago, she had actually fallen in love with the town she lived in.

One thing led to another, and she shoplifted a faux leather purse that wasn't even worth much. Sadie really didn't know her motives behind this, as she had no reason to do so.

At that point in her life, she was pretty well off and very happy, something in her brain just told her to take the hideous thing.

So, when Sadie didn't surrender the purse to the security guard in the store, she was put into a juvenile detention center for a night.

Usually, if you stole something, you would steal something you like, right?

However, the whole thing was exhilarating, which lead Sadie to do it again and again. She didn't get caught for a while, but when she did it was when she spent two weeks, and everything unfolded after that.

Sadie had no clean clothes, a very little amount of food, and barely any money.

Reluctantly, she had to pick up the pace. Instead of stopping in every single town, Sadie only stopped in every third one. To be fair, it was still a ridiculous amount of stops for her to make.

She left Ohio the other night and still hasn't gotten into New Jersey yet, mainly because she was frightened.

She didn't exactly know what was making her nerves act up. She didn't want to waste years of her life in a cell, even though in the span of the past few days she has been outside enough to last a lifetime.

Most of her clothes were soaked through from sitting and lying down in the snow, and they were taking forever to dry.

Sadie banged her head against the steering wheel as she parked in another abandoned lot accompanied by a field, accidentally honking her car horn in the process. In her fit of frustration, she made a promise to herself which she strongly disagreed with, but nothing would get done if she didn't go with it.

She had to get back to her town by the end of the day. She wouldn't allow herself to chicken out any longer.

So, she stopped in one last town and spent exactly four hours, eight minutes, and fifty-two seconds sat on the bench, doodling.

Then, she hesitantly got up and walked back to her car. It took all of her strength to argue with her mind, who started considering the possibilities of staying on the bench forever.

She knew that couldn't work, but every ounce of her being was counting on the chance of Sadie giving in to the temptation.

Instead, she tightened her grip onto the steering wheel and drove.

She started thinking about how terrible the police there were at their jobs. Surely, they sent people out looking for Sadie's license plate, or else her mom probably wouldn't be dead at this point.

Come to think of it, nobody was particularly great at their career in that one town, oddly enough.

Sadie switched lanes to the road leading back onto the highway and passed the bland scenery along the way.

Sure, the snow was pretty at first, but it was mixed with crumbling dirt and soggy leaves, along with cigarette butts thrown out of windows as others drove down the road.

Other than that, there were just small trees that were mostly bare. Accompanied by the dull gray skies, it definitely made for a boring trip back to the one place Sadie didn't want to go.

Hours passed, and Sadie drove by the familiar sign welcoming visitors to her hometown.

She slept in her car again in one more empty parking lot. As Sadie embraced her last look at the bleak outdoors that she grew to love.

Then, she set off. She was unwilling, but ready to turn herself in.

A/N: Filler, took forever to write. There will be a more exciting chapter tomorrow and idk how often I'll update bc I'm starting school this week, but the story is probably almost over anyways. We'll see. Goodnight/Morning!!
