CHAPTER 49 - ANDREA'S GRADUATION

December 15th, 2000 (Friday)

With twenty-three years old, Andrea graduated as a doctor and was the class' speaker at graduation.

She would still do two more years of specialization in pediatrics.

Her project Music in Health had had a great repercussion and the hospital remodeled the auditorium, expanding it to put a big stage.

The performances were made weekly with two sessions of half an hour each, always on Fridays.

There were also singers and musicians invited, some already famous.

The crowd was selected by the doctors and nurses of the hospital, in a way that the number of patients and escorts didn't overcrowd the room and it was only attended by patients who didn't have any contagious diseases and immunity problems.

For the ICU patients, Andrea herself played the violin any time she could.

Her final college project was based on the project, which existed for four years, and the results she presented were very positive, being very complimented by the examiners.

Andrea made her speech, after greeting everyone there, she finished with a big message for her classmates and a thrilling thank you.

─ It is with great happiness that we are here to celebrate this victory.
We, now graduated doctors, must care about the ones who look for us, putting ourselves in their shoes. We must watch out for the people who put their trust of healing on us.
It's necessary to feel the needs of these patients, far beyond what we can see or hear. The truth, the real pain, sometimes is not said, it needs to be noticed, investigated through a loving reception created by trust. Let us be grateful to our Great Father for our lives and for our learning opportunities.
Saint Francis, in his prayers, said: grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. On behalf of my graduated classmates, I appreciate the professors who demanded from us a lot of focus on our studies to acquire the necessary knowledge to practice medicine and to our families who were, and continue being, our encouragers and supporters through the years we dedicated ourselves to the course.
I excuse myself for a moment to give a special and private thanks to my father, Dr. Robert Toledo. He is my role model and my inspiration, for his dedication and love to the career he chose, for always being acknowledged for his ethic and professionalism, for being a present and caring father and for being a man of faith, aware of his mission to help make this world a better place.
I invite everyone to throw your hats in the air and celebrate this unforgettable day.

Robert couldn't hold his tears.

A movie went through his mind at that moment ever since the day he met Andrea.

She was four years old, when she revealed everything to him; then after she as a flower girl on his wedding with Regina; the meeting with Jackson and her maturity to deal with the situation and reinforced that him, Robert, was and would always be her father; the studious and sensible teenager; her involvement with Ollie since her childhood; her spiritual development; the encounters with the gypsy; the revelation about her past life and the acceptance of the assignments given to her; the rushed wedding and the pregnancy having to conciliate studies, husband and daughter.

She had done everything in a wonderful way and now she thanked him, considered him an example. No, Andrea, you were always the role model to be followed. The merit was all yours. You transformed our world into something better.

Andrea, once she was called to receive her certificate, got a standing ovation from teachers, the classmates, and their families. Mary Claire, who was in her grandfather's arms, also applauded her mother with enthusiasm.

Mary Claire was, this time, four years old. She was a singular child.

She was always near her parents and her grandfather. She was breastfed for a year and then only accepted fruits and vegetables. She didn't eat any meat, didn't drink milk or any other dairy products. She only drank water.

Until that age, she had never gotten sick. She didn't have any problems with cramps or teething as a baby. Since everyone in the family knew she was born with a purpose, no one pushed her nature.

Andrea noticed that after she was three, she could relieve pain in people just by her touch.

That gift was kept as a secret among them.

Robert and Andrea avoided taking her to the hospital at all costs so she wouldn't be exposed.

When they were at the farm, she talked to the horses and they followed her naturally, without the need of ropes or saddles. She didn't feel good when they were doing barbecue and preferred to stay alone at the orchard.

Her great-grandmothers tried everything to make recipes to please her and the family ceased the barbecues so they wouldn't make her feel bad. Her friends were the three Marys, the daughters of Jackson and Maddie, despite them having very different tempers. Mary Claire was the youngest, but she had a natural authority over her cousins.

Liz, Louie and, Vic were extroverted and noisy contrasting the serenity of Mary Claire. In the family's core, everyone agreed that Jackson's daughters came to the world to support her. They were the same age and the youngest children in the family. Anna Lynn, Edward and, Louise's youngest, was eight years old and bonded more with her older siblings.

Troy and Beatrice were sixteen years old. Mary Claire was very connected to Bea, because their personalities were similar, and she had been in love by her niece since her birth. There was also soul connection.

Ollie and Andrea didn't  think about having any more children, because they knew they would have to dedicate themselves to Mary Claire and support her with whatever she needed for the mission to be accomplished. The girl strongest bond was with her grandpa and only him knew who she was spiritually.
