CHAPTER 32 - CHRISTENING
September 23rd, 1984 (Sunday)
Sunday was sunny on the day of the twin's baptism. Three months flew by because of all the fuss. Even with her mother's and mother-in-law's help, Regina spent the entire day busy. Besides the twins, Andrea also needed attention.
Robert had returned to his activities at the hospital and now, also, a major partner of the hospital. Walter's stocks, inherited by Regina and Sonia, were all transferred to Robert, who now had sixty percent of the shares. That allowed him to authorize alone some actions that he judged important, since that still working as a doctor and, therefore, closer to the patients, he could understand better their necessities.
Regina recovered very well on the first three months after labor due to eating and sleeping well. She had gained a few pounds during pregnancy and had already returned to her normal weight.
She was curvier on the hips and still had bigger breasts due to breastfeeding. For Robert, she was even hotter. They had already returned to their normal sex life, but in a less intense way. Regina wasn't on birth control yet and condoms were the way to avoid another pregnancy. Their intimacy was interrupted many times by cries of hunger or postponed by exhaustion from both sides.
Troy was a smart, loud and hungry baby. He had gained more weight than his sister. Beatrice was quiet and smiling.
When the twins were a month old, Robert talked to Regina about the dream he had with the gypsy and Walter and that he would like to invite Jackson to be Beatrice's godfather. Regina was thrilled by what her husband was telling her and remembered that it was also Andrea's wish. She wanted Rosie to be the godmother. They would wait for the babies to be three months old to be baptized. Robert would call Jackson and invite him for dinner. This way, they could talk to him and Rosie at the same time.
On that same week, Jackson accepted the invitation. He recovered his legs mobility and walked a little limping, so he needed a cane. After dinner, Robert talked about the twin's baptism.
─ Eddy and Louise accepted to be Troy's godparents. We would like to ask my mother to be Beatrice's godmother and you, Jackson, to be her godfather. What do you say? Do you accept?
Jackson stared at Robert a little incredulous. Then stared at Regina with the same expression. He felt a tiny hand touching his arm. It was Andrea.
─ Say yes, Uncle Jackson. That will fill your empty heart with love. Bea will be very happy if you say yes.
Jackson put Andrea on his lap and hugged her tightly.
─ So, do you think my heart is empty? You're wrong. He was filled by the love that I have for a little blond doll with blue eyes. But I heard someone say that hearts can grow and always has a place for another love. So, I'll open a little spot for another doll.
He went back to stare at Robert and Regina.
─ This invitation is completely unexpected and may seem inappropriate, but I'm honored in earning your trust and accept to be Beatrice's godfather.
Jackson put Andrea on the floor to hug Robert and Regina. Then held Beatrice in his arms and kissed her forehead.
─ You are so special just like all the people in this family and being your godfather is another gift that life gives me. You can always count on me. Bea opened her eyes to him and smiled.
Rosie came near Jackson to hug him and then grabbed her granddaughter. Her happiness was printed on her face and Robert was thrilled. He looked at Regina and thanked her with a kiss.
The christening happened on the same church that Regina and Robert got married. The godmothers were holding the babies while the priest gave them blessing and washed their heads on the baptism sink. Regina looked at the altar and saw a blue halo with the gypsy and her father, both smiling. A huge peace filled her heart.
After the ceremony, there was a lunch to celebrate. Jackson gave his granddaughter a set of pearl necklace, earrings and bracelet. Rosie knitted a white blanket in which she embroidered Beatrice's name. Eddy and Louise gave their godson the outfit for the baptism and a chain with a pendant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.
A photographer was hired to register all of the event's moments and the most beautiful pictures were of Robert with Bea, Regina with Troy and Andrea among them and the other one with all of them together: Robert, Regina, their three kids, Eddy, Louise, Jackson, Rosie and, Sonia. The guardian team on Earth was complete and surrounded by light, peace and love.
