CHAPTER 2 - VISIONS
June 25th, 1981 (Thursday)
The week went by very fast. Regina had to divide herself between taking care of Andrea and her work as a choir conductor, formed by needed people who live on the outskirts of Goiania and her concerts, on Friday nights, in a club where she sang and played the piano.
On the doctor's return scheduled date, Regina woke up anxious. What was it about that man that made her feel so embarrassed? Well, he was quite pretty. Maybe too handsome. Tall, fit body, skin slightly tanned from the sun, a sexy mouth that showed a beautiful smile and the eyes, oh! the eyes with a mixed color of brown and green, that stared at her in such a deep, devastating way, like they could read her soul.
And the touch from his hands... she felt goosebumps, something unexplainable. She wished she didn't have to see him again, but her heartbeat in expectation as the hours went by.
In the hospital Robert was feeling apprehensive too. All week, those blue eyes had followed him even into his dreams. Never a woman had caused such an impact on him.
Knowing he would see her again in a few hours made him fidgety. She was the daughter of one of the hospital's partners and she was a mother already.
The little girl was beautiful too, looked very much like her mother. Was Regina married? She wasn't wearing a ring and she had her father's last name, Smith. And her daughter also. Who would be the girl's father?
A knock on the door distracted him from his thoughts and his assistant informed him that they had arrived. He smiled and told her to let them in. Closed his eyes and took a deep breath to take back the control from his emotions and act professionally.
Andrea came in the office lumping on one leg, helped by her mother. Regina was wearing some tight jeans and a white t-shirt that fitted her body perfectly, not leaving much for the imagination. Her light-golden hair was on a ponytail and her bangs framed her face of an angelic beauty. Her skin was very white and seemed soft as satin.
Robert tried to get himself together from the shock and noticed that Regina was feeling embarrassed too. He tried hard to act as a doctor and started talking to the child.
─ Good morning Andr.., I mean Clair. How was your week? Are you feeling any pain? ─ Robert put her on the stretcher and grabbed the tools to remove the cast. The girl was quiet, just like her mother, but while he was doing his job, he could feel Andrea's intense stare at him.
To get rid of that sensation, he started to ask the girl random questions about her school life and her roller skating classes, but she answered quickly, still staring at him. There was a palpable tension on the air that made him feel even more disturbed.
Once he removed the cast, he could see that the swelling had already reduced, and she almost didn't feel any pain when he touched the injured area. However, it would be necessary to put another cast.
Robert grabbed her in his arms so they could follow him into the cast room. Andrea stared at him with her blue eyes and revealed something.
─ You've already been my father. You've already been married to my mom.
─ Andrea, what are you talking about? I'm sorry Dr. Toledo, she's got a wild imagination.
Andrea didn't seem to care about what her mother was saying and continued to stare at Robert.
─ You're going to be my father again. You and my mom are going to be very happy together.
─ Andrea, stop it. You're making Dr. Robert embarrassed and me too. This isn't funny, young lady. Do you hear me?
─ My name is Clair. Clair! ─ And she kept staring at the doctor who couldn't look away. There was that "Déjà Vu" (*) sensation. Random images came to Robert's mind with an amazing speed, but he could contain them.
Regina shook Andrea's arm strongly to wake her out of that trance. Robert blinked many times to wake up from his own numbness. He walked into the cast room, gave the instruction and left them to the technician's care. He felt the need to walk away... However, Regina followed him and put herself in front of him. Her blue eyes were watery and her face slightly blushed.
─ Dr. Toledo, I'm so sorry for this embarrassing situation... Andrea has her head in the clouds, and she imagines a dad she would like to have. I'll find another orthopedist that can continue your treatment, I don't want any more embarrassing situations.
─ Calm down, your daughter will continue as my patient. Clair, I mean Andrea, is a child and I won't take her fantasies seriously. You can relax, she doesn't upset me.
─ Well, if it's the Doctor's wish, I can't say no.
─ Feel free to call me you, after all we're going to be a couple, according to your daughter. Robert jokingly smiled and Regina blushed even more. She walked away quickly to check on her daughter.
Robert returned to his office and gave his assistant an excuse that he had to make a call and didn't want to be disturbed. He reclined in his chair trying to calm himself down. He mentally relived the scene.
─ What was all of that, that strange feeling that the little girl was telling the truth, those strange images that appeared in my mind? It felt like I was being hypnotized by that girl's look! Why do I feel so attracted by her mother? Are they any kind of witches? Well, I would enjoy fitting that mother witch's body to my own. A smile appeared on his face and he shook his head to push away the sexy thoughts, saying to himself out loud: ─ Oh my Gosh! Take this temptation away from me. Let me go back to work, it's the best I can do.
Robert called his assistant.
─ Louise, you can let the next patient in.

(*) Déjà vu, something that very few people know the true meaning of. Even though "déjà vu" is a French expression for "already seen", it actually is used to describe the strange feeling you get when you're in a situation and feel like you've been in the exact same situation before, but really haven't.
