CHAPTER 18 - THEY'RE BACK!
May 29th, 1982 (Saturday)
Andrea couldn't help her anxiety and happiness about her parents' return. They had spent twenty days on honeymoon, and she couldn't wait to hug them. The same feeling was shared by her grandparents. They had never been away from Regina that long.
It was 2pm when the cab pulled over in front of the Smith's house. Grandparents and granddaughter came running to hug the couple. They looked great, rested and happy.
The next hours passed filled with talks about the trip and everything they saw and tried. After, they opened their bags and gave the gifts they had bought to everybody.
Sonia had prepared a big snack for them and only after they went upstairs to see the new bedroom.
Robert was impressed with the greatness and quality of the remodeling done in such a short period of time. He knew his father-in-law had spent a big amount of money to make that happen.
He would have to talk to Dr. Smith about the house bills, since he would be living with them.
He was now a partner of the hospital with 10% of stocks. Besides his salary as a doctor and his participation in the farm's income. He could contribute with the bills.
After a long shower, and clean clothes, Robert called the farm and talked to his mother and Gill. They told him Edward was in Goiania closing new deals.
At night, Edward and Louise showed up for a visit and told everyone the news.
They were planning on getting married a year from now and Eddy was now a partner in a tourism agency. He was planning on moving to Goiania. Everyone was surprised by those news and Robert frowned. Regina knew he was worried about his mother.
─ Do you want to rent your apartment to me, Bert?
─ Eddy, you can live there for free. It's empty anyway. This way you can save up to buy a better place since you're getting married.
─ Thanks, bro. This will help a lot. And you can take that look off your face because mom will not be left alone. I'll split my time between the farm and the agency. I'll be a partner and not an employee. Gill gave me all his support and we're planning on hiring two more employees to help him around the farm. I told him many times that the farm's owner doesn't have to, necessarily, work on it. He must learn how to manage things.
Robert shook his head agreeing with him and felt more relieved.
Regina and Louise didn't stop talking.
Suddenly, Robert's eyes crossed with his father-in-law's, who had a satisfaction look on his face, like the job was done.
A sudden chill went through his spine and made him arch his back. That made him anxious and he decided to drink a glass of beer to loosen up.
It was too much information for only one day.
Sunday passed calmly, everyone home, keeping up with the news.
Walter kept the newspapers from the day after the wedding to show them.
There were many pictures from the couple and all the memories came back to Robert's mind. Everything was so perfect. Regina was gorgeous. He remembered his mantra. His dream had come true. She was his and would be forever.
After lunch, Robert packed his things to return to work. The time of laziness was over. On the next day, he was on call already. He also needed to phone his lawyer about Andrea's adoption papers. He wanted to get this done as soon as possible.
Regina would also return to her projects and was filled with ideas to try.
Life continued in its pace: work, family and many nights filled with love.
