Stay
I lead Liam's way to the rest of the group that is waiting for us.
Everyone excitedly greets Liam and he does the same as we quickly grab a spot and join the conversations.
As we talk, I can't help but wonder if everyone else has talked to Liam after the last movie. He fits in so naturally into their conversations. Maybe he talked to all of them but me.
As everybody sits relaxing across the couch, I notice their empty cups and glasses on the table in front of them. I get up and start heading towards the kitchen.
"Gonna go get more drinks!" I call out.
Once I reach the kitchen, I pull open a drawer and grab a stack of disposable cups. Then, I open the freezer and start to take out some drinks and set them on the granite counter beside the cups.
As I begin to uncork the drinks - some alcoholic and some non alcoholic.
As I do this I think about how everyone fits in perfectly again. Nine months can do a lot to a person, but we all still feel like friends, feel like family.
I begin to hear footsteps behind me, but I ignore them and start pouring the liquids into the cups.
Suddenly I feel a hand on my waist and almost drop the bottle from my hand.
Feeling startled, I turn my head and I am greeted by Liam.
He let's go and joins me at the counter.
"Thought you could use some help," he says. I'm not sure if it was a question or a statement, but I smile back at him.
He starts to unscrew another bottle and begins to help.
I should ask him. Ask him why he hasn't talked to me.
"So how have you been doing?" I blurt out, instead of asking my question.
He thinks for a short moment, and then replies.
"Um...great actually."
I look down back at the counter. What did I expect him to say? I don't know.
It's good that he is doing great. I want to be happy for him. I am happy for him. But why was I expecting a different answer?
Then finally I can't stand it anymore. Liam is no one to keep secrets from me, well at least I hope not. I sigh, look right at him, and begin to ask him the question.
"Liam, why didn't you-"
"I know. I'm sorry." He cuts me off like he knows exactly what I was about to say.
I look at him questionably.
"Jenn, I'm sorry. I don't know why I ignored you. I don't know why I didn't talk to you." He continues.
"There's no reason...no valid reason I can give you."
"Is there something going on?" I ask as I slowly touch his hand that is resting on the kitchen counter.
"No. Yea- I don't know. I can't say anything right now. I know this isn't a proper response to your question but I promise I will give you one. Just not now." He says.
I drop my head and look down to the floor. What does this mean?
He notices me frowning and lifts my chin up so I am staring into his crystal blue eyes.
"I want you to forgive me. I know it's not good enough, but please. I'm sorry. I've missed you Jenn, I've really missed you," he finishes.
I realize it's my turn to answer but my mouth is frozen. I don't have any words.
So I pull him into an embrace.
Although I think he should give me a proper reason, I've missed him too. And I don't want to deal with all of this now. I just want him back.
He hugs me back strongly.
I rest my head on his shoulder.
"It's okay," I say although I know I'm being too soft.
"Just don't do it again." I finish.
"I promise, I won't." He says.
Suddenly we are broken from our hug when I see Josh coming through the kitchen entrance.
"What's taking you two that long!" He asks laughingly.
Liam and I laugh as I pick up the tray of drinks from the counter and follow Josh back to the living room.
The next couple of hours go by fast but wonderfully. We have a great time. Even Liam and I. We hang out like we used to and it feels good.
Soon, it's later than midnight and Natalie and Jena exclaim that they have a flight tomorrow. We say goodbye and I tell them to stay in touch.
Later, Elizabeth also says that she should go. But luckily I make her stay a bit longer. But after about another hour, she says goodbye and leaves. Woody leaves with her too.
Soon it just Josh, Liam, and I. We three used to hang out all of the time on set and we had the best time, just like we do now.
After a while, I start to feel a little tipsy and lightheaded because of all the drinks I've had.
Josh and Liam help clean up. They say I should get some rest so I won't feel horrible in the morning, but I insist on staying awake with them.
Finally Josh says it's time for him to leave. I lead him to the door and Liam follows me. My vision starts to blur and I feel dizzy. But I manage to say goodbye to Josh before I hear the door shut. My head spins and I start to stumble. I hear Liam say he should leave too, but then he sees me in this woozy condition.
"Let's take you to your bed first," he says. Then he clutches my hand and places his arm around my shoulder.
Slowly and steadily he takes me up to my room until I settle down on my bed with his hand still grasped in between my fingers.
"Alright, I should leave now," Liam says a few minutes later as he starts to get up.
"No." I call out.
"Stay." I whisper softly.
He stops in his steps for a moment but then settles back down on my bed.
I shift over so I'm slightly closer to him. He rests his head on the pillow and I rest mine on his arm.
"Goodnight," he whispers.
"Goodnight." I say.
The last thing I feel is a kiss on my forehead, before I drift off to sleep.
