We've been living in Alexandria for three weeks and it's the happiest three weeks any of us have felt in a very long time. Three weeks without having to scavenge for food, move to the next safe spot, and protect Judith from walkers that were attracted by her cries of hunger and exhaustion.
Deanna and Reg had the plans for building a brand new barn that could host most gatherings like social parties to bring everyone closer — rather than just neighbors, as Deanna explained.
Reg had dreams of expanding Alexandria, bringing in more people, and building more houses to create an entire town. Because of my familiar knowledge of keeping my fathers farm in top shape, I jumped at the first opportunity to help build the barn of their dreams.
Deana dreamed of something red — a traditional color and within all the scavenging the town had already done, red paint was awaiting in a storage unit to finally be used.
I tucked a pencil between my teeth and tightened the grey bandana that shielded my face from my hair. The sun rays were overpowering today but almost everyone was at work, lending a helping hand to bring the couple's dream come true.
"Sienna! Toss me the paint brush?" Glenn held his hands out after dusting them off on his jeans.
I looked over at the opened bucket of red paint by my said and tossed my friend the wide unused brush. He caught it gracefully with a smile before handing it over to Maggie — who laughed joyfully.
My eyes lingered over the couple for a brief moment, a smile tugging at my lips before I went back to marking the boards with my pencil. I was on cutting duty — which meant I got to operate the saw machine.
Two large hands suddenly grasped my waist and hosted me off the ground momentarily. A wide smile stretched across my lips as I reached down and gripped Rick's forearms. "Hey!" He planted my feet back down on the ground with a soft chuckle.
I quickly turned around, tucking the pencil behind my ear and welcomed him with a soft kiss on the chin. His scruff, which was luckily returning after a long needed shave, brushed against my cheek. His own bright smile mirrored my own and before I could pull away, his arms circled around my waist and tugged me firmly against his chest.
"Hi," He grinned cheekily before leaning back in for another kiss.
I wrapped my arms loosely around his neck and welcomed the warmth he brought to my heart. His tongue teased my bottom lip and my stomach did a whirl of flips as I welcomed the warm muscle into my mouth — dragging my own against his.
"I missed you, when are you almost done?" He kissed my lips repeatedly, in a teasing manner.
Shaking my head, I slightly pulled away to drag my fingers through his mop of curls and laughed softly. "We just started an hour ago. I'm not taking a break until we at least finish the flooring."
He rubbed my bicep soothingly —- his calloused fingertips leaving a trail of goosebumps along the skin. "Take a break with me — right now." His lips stretched into a deep grin. "I'll bring you back in twenty minutes."
I raised my eyebrow at him suspiciously. "I can't eat lunch in 20 minutes."
Rick pulled away from my touch, purposely putting distance between us both as he started making his way towards our house. "I'm not talking about lunch, sweetheart."
Warmth flooded my whole system and this time it wasn't from the sun. My eyes widened with astonishment, a small giggle exiting my lips. "Wha — Rick Grimes!" I tried my best to scold him, watching him jog towards the house with a trail of laughter leading me straight towards him.
I tossed the pencil onto the table and sprinted after him, purposely swatting his arm from embarrassment once I managed to reach him. His laughter boomed loudly and his arms circled around my waist once more, lifting me off the ground in an attempt to reach the house faster by carrying me along.
