Chapter 82: Love Story
Beck
I feel much better.
After the doctor's visit and her extensive examination, a lot of new information has come to light. Stuff we had no idea about and were shocked to hear it, especially the part about me being an Enygma.
A what? I've never heard of that breed of werewolf before in my life, but I guess that's why it's so rare. I have no words to describe the gut wrenching pain I felt after I had my grandmother's tea. But I have no condition of taking care of twins. I can barely afford lunch at school.
Anyway, that's not what is important right now. What I'm really curious about is to find out what is my terrifying ability that my aunt Tayen is refusing to tell us. I wanna know what scared her to the point of trying to mislead us with some random information.
An Enygma can conceive. Really? Call the press because I already imagined I could since I heard Owen's theory about my mating to the Atwood twins. And the only danger of me getting pregnant is that I'd have to care for twins.
Nobody is buying that explanation, sorry auntie.
The bite from my wolf is lethal. Well, that's not exactly breaking news. We're werewolves. This is what we do. I'm sure regular wolves are just as dangerous as mine, even if their bites aren't properly lethal. That wouldn't scare anyone off unless they're human.
Come on, auntie! Spill the tea already! *stares at her apprehensively*
I'm waiting for it. Patiently. Anxiously tapping my foot on the floor. I need an answer and I need it now!
"I don't wanna be immortal. Why would I want to see everybody I care about die and be left alone?" - I muttered next to Jude and Quentin who were by each of my sides inside the crowded kitchen.
My father was practically foaming in curiosity. He thinks of me as an extension of him, so... he's eager to know the news and how he could use it to his advantage. As if... *eye roll*
"Again, you're not a vampire." - Aunt Tayen glared at me, sounding annoyed.
"If you can fly, I'm gonna be so jealous of you. I'll demand you to take me along with you to the sky." - Jude snickered. I laughed out loud. Quentin whispered 'me too' to me.
"He's not Superman, blondie." - She sassed him, rolling her eyes in annoyance.
"Tayen!" - Mom exclaimed, raising her voice in a short tempered tone, losing her patience with her sister stalling.
"Once they complete the bond, an Enygma reaches its peak of power. In human form, they have the ability to command any single werewolf, regardless of breed or station. It's impossible to resist and Enygma's order." - She revealed, begrudgingly.
All of us were looking at each other, waiting for her to finish. But that was it.
"Is that it? How is that any different from any Alpha in the world? I thought it was something cool... man, I'm so disappointed!" - I mouthed off, feeling incredibly underwhelmed by this information.
From the way she was speaking, I thought it was something actually dangerous.
"You're not thinking clearly, nephew. Yes, every Alpha can command their pack members but you have no such restriction. Imagine the damage you could do if you were put in a room with an Alpha." - She alerted me, sounding deeply distraught by this.
"What do you mean by that? Alphas can't be commanded by anyone. Not even Alpha Atwood can command his sons or any other–"
"YOU CAN!" - She cut me off, loudly. - "If people heard about a werewolf who can command an Alpha from any pack, then that person's life could be in danger. Do you get it now?" - She explained, looking at me worriedly.
"Did you just say I can command any Alpha from any pack?" - I double checked, sounding confused by this theory.
"Yes, exactly! It's dangerous information! The only safety Alphas have in the world is that no one can make them do their bidding. They can walk into any place on Earth and feel safe. But if word gets out that there's a werewolf who can make them comply, that's not something the Alpha Council would take lightly." - She spoke, nervously.
I can see the fear in her eyes as she said those words. My mates are gasping in shock at this information. Nobody expected this to happen or for me to have this ability that I don't even know how to unlock just yet.
Alpha Council, as the name suggests, is a collegiate of the most powerful pack leaders of the state. There's also a national council with the most powerful Alphas of the country. And yes, Geoffrey Atwood - the twins' father - takes part in both of them.
These councils reunite from time to time to discuss (impending) threats to our existence and other topics that transcend the confounds of a single pack. They also deal with transgressions committed by any werewolf that haven't been dealt with by an Alpha, especially regarding rogues - lone werewolves who answer to no one and belong to no pack.
"Beck, sweetheart, as you know each wolf pack is bound by one Alpha. They are the ones who spearhead the neural network which allows us to mind link each other. That's why you can't communicate with a werewolf from another pack. And each Alpha has the ability to command their pack members in extreme circumstances. It's a very delicate power that shouldn't be used lightly. But you don't have that restriction. Any werewolf, no matter where they live, is fair game to you. There's no limitation to your power." - She explained, cautioning me about the dangers of this ability.
I'm gobsmacked. What the hell? Everybody from my family is now looking at me like I was a freak, scared of me. Or for me, as I choose to believe. Mom moves to hug me and keep me comforted in light of this extremely troubling news.
"I hope no one thinks a teenager is gonna pose any danger. He's not a super spy. He's just a kid." - Mom spoke up, beside me. I could smell her fear and it was disturbing for me.
"I think it's better if this information doesn't leave this house. You shouldn't tell anyone back in your pack about what kind of werewolf Beck truly is. For all they know, he's an undiagnosticated Omega." - Aunt Tayen told my mates, frightfully.
"Done, ma'am. We're not gonna tell anybody." - Jude responded, sounding scared for my safety. Quentin nodded along.
Wow. This New Year's Eve took such a turn for the wicked. How is my life suddenly in jeopardy? What the hell is up with that? Who says I want to command anyone, let alone an Alpha?
"I don't know about you guys, but it's past ten and I'm starving." - Dad declared, trying to change the mood inside the kitchen that was heavy with worry and amazement. He too was fearing for my safety.
But he's right. I really am starving and the food does smell delicious. We grabbed extra chairs around the house so that everybody could eat at the table. Between four of my grandparents and two of my aunts and their families, we had to squeeze in to fit everybody.
Our table isn't fit to host dinner parties like the pack house in Ruckerfod Falls, but we make do with what we have. The important part is that I was among family and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Jude and Quentin were still reeling from the discoveries we made today, but now with this special ability of mine they look frightened. I still don't think it's that big of a deal. It's not like I was a vampire and could 'glam' people to do my bidding and they wouldn't know about it.
When you command someone, they are very much aware of what you're doing to them. They just can't resist you, but they sure know what you're forcing them to do. As I am sure Jalensky still remembers when Jude made him kneel in class and apologize to me.
There's no way in hell I would ever mess with an Alpha and have them chase me afterwards. I'd have to run for the rest of my life, depending on what I'd make them do. It's not something I'd ever aspire to achieve. No, thanks.
The furthest thing from my mind is to mess around with consent or powerful people. Goddess forbids!
We had a very nice meal among family and my mates, the very last dinner I'd have this year. Gosh, these last couple of days have been a whirlwind. Way to say goodbye to the year with a bang... *gasp in shock*
After the hefty dinner, I sat down with my aunt Tayen and discussed her discoveries and what they meant to me. I also inquired about other things she might have neglected to say. Who knows?
I'd still prefer to fly over being able to command anybody. That would've been a cool ability to possess... *sigh*
My mom reassured me I was safe and that nobody is going to bother a teenager from a small town. I should move on with my life as if nothing was different. I'm the same boy from before, nothing has changed.
Some time past eleven pm, I went to the restroom once again where I spent some time in pain. It wasn't as bad as before, but my stomach still ached. My grandmother said that though she gave me the wrong tea, the effect should be the same.
Yeah, I'm not totally fine with this. It is a major relief, sure, but it pains me to take such measures. But I can't deal with having twins at this moment in my life. Especially Jude's twins. I know that would crush Quentin.
Had he stayed rejected, that wouldn't be much of an issue, but here we are. Mated and marked. There is nothing for me to do now except for assuming the consequences of my actions. This is the consequence and I can't even blame it on my heat.
What's up with that?
"10. 9. 8. 7..."
Some time later, we're all doing the countdown until the New Year. Fortunately, I was feeling better by then. My family had champagne glasses on their hands and the children had sparkling cider.
"6. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1."
My mates were by my side, as usual, as we celebrated the dawn of a new year filled with possibilities. They looked happy in white shirts and colorful pants. Each one represents different things according to the superstition. I am more of a traditional kind of boy.
"Happy New Year!"
I received a threeway kiss on the cheek - different sides - as the clock struck midnight. We heard the fireworks from a distance and left the house to check it out. My family celebrated the New Year with hopes and dreams to be fulfilled.
We hugged and kissed one another. My grandparents had a field day with their grandchildren. It's been a while since I had all four of them in the same place, so that was nice. My mates took their turn with their celebration and showered me with love.
This would never be the same had they not been able to come with me to the reservation. Though we had our trials and tribulations, I wouldn't have it any other way. Not if it meant to be left without their company.
Without them I'm not whole, I'm not complete or fulfilled. There's no life for me without my twin mates. I recognize that now. I know they'll be there for me, no matter what life might throw my way.
I'm sure there'll be plenty of challenges from now on. My life has just begun.
Yes, there was still fear hidden behind their eyes. This curve ball of me being an Enygma is going to bite me in the ass, I just know it. But for now, I am happy. As long as I have them, I'm good to go.
"Thank you both for being here. This means the world to me, truly." - I told my mates with a proud smile, radiant to have this time with them.
"It was our pleasure, mate. We wouldn't have it any other way." - Jude spoke, looking enamored by me.
"I love you, Kuckunniwi Becker." - Quentin melted, kissing my cheek.
"I love you too, Quentin Atwood." - I swooned, feeling my heart swelling with passion.
"Well, I loved you first." - Jude chimed in, kissing my neck.
Suddenly, this turned into a competition of kissing me and I'm not exactly complaining. Each twin attacking one side of my exposed skin, making me feel all the thrills.
Oh Goddess... Thank you so much for my mates. Who would ever think I'd be so delighted about my double pairing? I hope we can continue this later on, privately. I mean, I can't get pregnant twice, am I right? *naughty grin*

A|N: I still can't believe I broke another record for the longest book by me ever.
It amazes me how I can keep myself engaged even if I'm telling my ninth werewolf story.
Do you smell it? Are your spider senses tingling?
It's a sign of danger.
Will Beck's life be in jeopardy?
Who knows? Only time will tell.
Next it's time to come back "Home".
Love,
Léo.
