Chapter 33: Last Dance

Beck

I'm ready.

I'm showered and dressed to impress. I'm fully prepared for my prince to pick me up so we can dance the night away.

Our very first high school event with a date. I know people wait for their mates for 18 years - sometimes 17, if you're lucky - and when they meet them, it feels like a magical moment. Or so I'm told.

But before I get to that, this is as magical for me as it is gonna get without someone's eyes shining. Not mine because they don't. *grunts in annoyance*

Aside from the triggering topic, I feel like I waited a lifetime for a moment like this. This is what I always wanted to do, what I always aspired for but thought was only possible for me if I was mated.

I know it's just a silly high school dance. But to me it's so much more than that. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity.

There's a movie called 'Everybody's talking about Jamie' in which the main character dreams of becoming a drag queen. Except he lives in a small town in England and faces a lot of backlash because of it. And the fact that he's gay.

His father refuses to acknowledge his existence - relatable, right? - because he doesn't relate to the boy in anything.

At the end of the movie, there's a sequence in which he's barred from attending his senior prom because he wanted to do so wearing a dress. This story actually happened and the documentary about it inspired a [successful] play that based the film.

My point with all of this is: though we live in modern times and it's not like I want to go to the dance in a dress - not that there's anything wrong with that - I can't stress this enough...

It is a huge deal that I'm going with a boy. I don't mean to say I'm breaking boundaries, but I genuinely thought this wouldn't happen for me before mated.

It sounds silly to say this when we have marriage equality, but it isn't. Some girls aren't allowed to enter a bathroom here in Texas. Yes, I'm being serious. And not just here.

Anyway, I'm ready for it.

Jude parks his car in front of the pack house and gracefully enters the manner looking like the most beautiful boy in the world.

He's wearing a dazzling suit with a matching pink tie. Honestly, it took my breath away the moment I laid eyes on him.

Fortunately, the same happened for him when he saw me. The widest smile graced his gorgeous mouth from the moment he glanced at me.

It's refreshing to feel something for someone who actually reciprocates it. But he does look mesmerizing. He's already handsome to begin with, but in formal wear... *sighs*

My mom was enchanted by seeing us together and she did the 'mom thing' taking a bunch of pictures of us side by side. The hot looking couple, if I may say so myself.

After she embarrassed me enough in front of my date, we left in his car. As soon as we climbed onboard, Jude made sure to kiss me.

He said he needed to greet me properly now that we were alone. I'm certainly not opposed to that.

The school was beautifully decorated with the theme "Save the Last Dance", famous star crossed lovers throughout the time.

We walked in to take our official picture for the yearbook and immediately saw the familiar faces spread all over the ballroom.

Layla looked absolutely breathtaking in a fantastic red dress, hair in a beautiful updo, a dazzling necklace adorning her neck and a dapper young man by her side. They do look good, my Goddess...

"Wow. You look fantastic!" - Jude greeted his best friend, also making sure to point out that Blaine looks good too.

"Thanks, J. You're not so bad yourself. The pink tie? Loved it!" - She smiled at him, contently.

"Who would've guessed we'd both be here with our wonderful dates?" - Jude commented, looking around the crowded room.

"I know, right? Certainly not me." - She replied, baffled.

"I'm sure both of you would be fine. It's not like there isn't some competition to be your date tonight." - I told Layla with a malicious smile, not that Blaine liked that.

"There is no competition, Beck. There 's only us." - Blaine asserted in a confident tone, looking at his date lovingly. They kissed each other for a moment and we took the chance to continue our promenade.

Quentin and Cassandra, Owen and Elaine were talking in a corner where Jalensky was trying to mask his insecurity for being the only one without a date. But of course he isn't the only one. This is high school, not a utopian society. I know Bode - the boy who got tangled with the omega in heat - is also sulking because the girl he invited is with Owen.

It happens. Nothing is guaranteed in life, much less a high school romance.

I greet my cousin who's talking to some of our classmates. He too came alone tonight, though I have no idea if he had the courage to invite someone. Maybe he'd prefer to come with my date, but we're not going there tonight.

Jude brings some beverage and I sip as we hear the low ambiance music being played by some aspiring DJ they hired for tonight. And when I say aspiring DJ, I mean a student with musical inclination.

Naturally, we steer clear of the mean crowd but Jude is a polite boy so he waves courteously at Cassie, who is a lovely girl despite who her boyfriend is.

Now Jude and I take to the floor to dance together. Layla and Blaine accompany us.

This is so wonderful, I think I need to pinch myself to check if it isn't a dream.

"Thank you for inviting me to be your date tonight. I'm loving every minute of it." - I told Jude, as we danced closely. I could feel his body warmth and it was heaven to me.

"It's absolutely my pleasure, Beck. Thanks for saying yes, I know this has been a difficult week, but I'm glad you could see that you're the only one for me." - He said and I swooned.

I'm so smitten by him right now, it's gonna be tough when he'll get mated away from me in less than a week from now.

"You're the only one for me too. I don't know how I'm gonna act when you get mated to someone else in just a matter of days." - I stated, feeling bad for our upcoming separation. Jude felt terrible for me as I said that.

"Don't think about that right now. We've got tonight. Every day together counts." - He encouraged me with a charming smile. Honestly when he opens that beautiful mouth of his to smile at me, I melt.

I kissed him as we danced. It was like the world stood still for us, for our moment.

This is magical, everything I ever wished upon growing up feeling a bit different from other kids. He's the boy I never thought I'd get, but feel so happy to have him.

At the same time, not far from us, Layla and Blaine are so entangled in each other it is hard to imagine they started dating less than a month ago. Both of them looked radiant.

As the couples took to the dance floor, the single people roamed around the school looking for something to do, a mischief, or simply watched as others rocked it out.

The night was going so great, but eventually we sat down for a while to rest up our feet and replenish ourselves. Talking amongst us, I couldn't help but notice Layla stealing a glance of Owen and Elaine together on the dance floor.

It was almost imperceptible the way she discreetly blinked and looked at them having the time of their lives, not a care in the world. Looking at them together, you would never guess that he's in love with another girl. Which is not to say she isn't having a blast with her date. She definitely is. And like I said, she's very discreet about it. I don't think Blaine caught it.

Jude stepped out for a second to go to the bathroom, but as he walked out the room he was interrupted by a very handsome boy wearing what is probably the most expensive suit I've ever seen.

"Hi there. Save me the last dance?" - Jalensky asked him, using his natural charisma and charm.

"Are you joking? Out of the question!" - Jude replied, glaring at him for the bold move.

"Not even one dance? Come on! For old times' sake." - He insisted, charmingly.

"What part of having a boyfriend did you not understand? I want nothing more with you. We're done!" - Jude exclaimed, impatiently. At this, people were starting to notice them talking so they turned to me for a reaction to the scene.

"I'm not asking for a kiss, just one lousy dance..." - He touched his arm with a pleading look and Jude's eyes glowed in rage.

"Get the fuck away from me! I'm here with my boyfriend, who I nearly lost this week because of you. I'm not risking our relationship! I wish you the best, but I don't owe you anything and if you don't get away from me in five seconds, this is gonna get ugly." - Jude threatened him, positively furious.

Jalensky finally took the hint and let him go towards the restroom. The scene drew too much unwanted attention, but I was trying my best to keep my cool.

"Don't mind him, Beck. I promise you Jude is not a cheater or anything like that. If he says they're done, he really means it. Besides, I don't think I've ever seen my best friend this happy before." - Layla comforted me with a soft smile.

"Thank you, Layla. I really appreciate that. I have never been this happy before either." - I smiled back at her.

I guess no one ever said this was gonna be easy, but I can't let him win. I refuse to. I fought tooth and nail to get here, I'm not backing down from my date. Hell no!

"I'm sorry that you had to see that. He's just desperate because he's lonely, not because he wants me. Anyway, that's not my problem. My only focus is you, my boyfriend." - Jude apologized once he was back from the restroom.

I kissed him for a good while and people chanted about us as we did.

Speaking of kissing, Elaine kept trying to kiss Owen who politely offered his cheek instead. They were otherwise a great looking couple, but he's still in love with the girl on Blaine's arms. But she played smart, not too insistent. Instead, she used her body language to lure him in.

If nothing else works, he's still a straight teenage boy. And she is a very attractive girl.

I can attest to the fact that I had some impure thoughts tonight about my date, so I'm all for her efforts. But it looks like an uphill battle.

"Honestly, it's very entertaining to see Elaine trying to get Owen to kiss her." - I whispered on Jude's ear as we sat close to each other. He laughed at my comment. I refrained from talking openly out of respect for Blaine.

Layla was intrigued by whatever I said to my date, but she didn't pry.

At the other end of the spectrum, one couple who did not have trouble kissing each other was Quentin and Cassie, but enough of straight people for now. I'm more interested in kissing my hot boyfriend.

I just love saying that. My boyfriend.

Jude walked me to a distinct corner of the school to make out. We took our time enjoying each other's lips but my hands were uncontrollable tonight. I groped whatever I could reach of him and I'm not sorry about it.

"You're so hot. It's difficult to keep my composure." - I admitted after a while, flustered.

"No one is holding you back. Touch wherever you want." - He smiled at me with a naughty grin and I lost my cool. We lost track of time taking advantage of each other when a teacher reminded us that we were still on school property. *blushes*

Suddenly, it was announced that it was the last dance of the night. All couples took the floor by storm to go out with a bang. I couldn't be happier that I had this evening with Jude, no matter what happens to us later on.

"Honestly, I didn't know I could be this happy before I got mated. You showed me the true meaning of joy. Thank you for tonight. I'll never forget it for as long as I live." - I told him as we danced for the final time this evening.

"No, Beck. You are the one who showed me what happiness could be. You made me look at myself with pride. You made tonight the best night of my life so far. Thank you for allowing me into your heart. I shall never forget this for as long as I live." - He declared, romantically.

We kissed for the duration of our last dance.

At the same time, on another corner of the ballroom.

"I'm sorry I couldn't be a decent date for you tonight. I hope you can forgive me." - Owen told Elaine as they danced together.

"What? No, you were a fantastic company tonight. We don't need to be kissing for our date to be valid. In fact, it would be weird if you were all over me just because I invited you. I respect you. Don't feel bad, I knew what I was getting into." - She put him at ease.

"I'm glad to hear it. But don't get me wrong, I'm not delusional about how gorgeous you look. It just takes me a while." - He told her and she practically showed him every tooth inside her mouth with a wide smile.

Owen lowered his head to snuggle into her neck, causing her to vibrate with unexpected joy.

After the dance ended, Jude took me back to the pack house but not before we made out in his car for a while. This was such an unforgettable evening. I tremble at the thought of losing my boyfriend.

But if this was our last dance, we certainly are going out with a bang. I loved every minute of it.

A|N: Another chapter written with a specific song in mind. My first of this great singer.

It's the final countdown to the twins' birthday and I can hardly wait.

OFF: This is probably one of my very favorites of Beck's pictures.

Love,

Léo.
