A very happy Nate
After the short trip to the pack house, I run home. I made sure that no one is following me. I take a shower and change into my pajamas. I hear the door opens and closes. The heavy footsteps let me know that Nate is home. I run down to greet him.
He looks happy, with a stupid grin on his face. His violin case is sling over his shoulder.
How was the date? I sign.
“She said she loved me,” he says before sighing in happiness.
That’s great, Nate! I hug him which he returns quickly.
“You’re right. She is the one for me,” he tells me.
I roll my eyes. I know I’m right, lover boy. Sleep tight because we have school tomorrow.
He walks up to his room. “Then I can see my love again,” he mumbles, unaware that I can hear him.
I sigh. My brother is in love. I can’t tell him about my deal with Alpha Green yet. It’ll ruin his happy mood. I figure that I should tell him later.
The next day, Nate is up and about early, which is weird. I’m always the only one in the house capable of waking up early, which is until today. He looks happy. Extremely happy. And he’s cooking breakfast.
I yawn and sit at the counter. I have my favorite t-shirt of my favorite band and jeans on. I didn’t put any makeup on, I never do.
Why are you up early? I sign before rubbing my eyes.
He turns to smile happily at me. “I’m going to see my mate!”
He is also used to addressing Gwen as his mate. With me around, of course. If any werewolves hear him accidentally slipped off, we’ll in so much trouble trying to explain how we know of werewolves.
Nate starts to flip the pancake. I watch as he expertly dances while flipping the pancakes without making any mess in the kitchen. Nate makes the best pancake since he knows mum’s secret recipe. I, on the other hand, knows dad’s secret recipe to make lasagna and pie.
He hands me a plate of pancake and takes one for himself. He sits beside me and starts to dig in. I take a bite into his pancake, feeling the syrup and pancake blends the taste together. Gwen is lucky to have him as his mate. I can already imagine him making pancakes for her every morning where as I would be in HQ, watching werewolf hunters’ every move. I frown at that thought. I’m never going to see my brother again until I take up Director’s job. It would be a lot of hard work and competition for the Director title.
“Mel? Hello? Anyone home?”
I snap out of my train of thoughts to look up at Nate smirking down at me. I look around to see that he has already washed our plates and I’m staring into thin air.
“Were you dreaming of your crush?” Nate asks teasingly.
I scowl at him while standing up to grab my Ferrari keys. We put on a jacket since it’s getting colder. Christmas is coming soon. I can’t wait for snow. This might be the last Christmas I’ll ever spend with Nate. By May next year, I’m going to start training as a HQ agent.
I sigh. Better make this year’s Christmas memorable.
Nate and I ride in my Ferrari in silence. Christmas songs are played on the radio. I can’t help but sing along ‘The Merry Christmas Polka’ by Jim Reeve. Poor Nate, he really wants to listen to Christmas songs.
As soon as I park in the school parking lot, Nate runs off towards Gwen and gives her a hug and a peck on her cheek, making her blush. Celine and Emma laugh at Gwen’s red cheeks, causing Gwen to growl lowly at them and hiding her face in Nate’s chest. Nate chuckles too.
Wally and Rick pats Nate’s back and congratulates them for finally being together.
“So how is your sister taking up with your relationship with Gwen?” Rick asks Nate.
I am still by my car, walking towards them slowly. They must have thought that I’m too far to hear them.
I see Nate shrugs. “She looks fine with it.”
That’s when I finally reach them.
“Hey guys!” I greet cheerfully, pretending as if they weren’t talking about me.
They mumble back their hellos. I notice Gwen hugging Nate tighter.
“May I speak the Gwen alone?” I ask Nate, making sure that he can read my lips.
His eyes narrow immediately. I give him an innocent smile.
“Why?” he asks suspiciously.
“It’s a girl thing,” I reply, keeping my eyes on Gwen. She looks afraid of me. I’m still the one who makes her fearful.
Nate looks at Gwen. His expression clearly asks whether she wants to or not. Is she curious enough to face me?
I grin at Nate, letting him know that I won’t hurt her and I’ll protect her with my life.
“It won’t take long, Gwen,” I tell her, glancing at her.
She looks torn. Nate encouragingly gives her a small push towards me. She glares at him for a second which he smiles at.
“Okay,” she answers in defeat. I lead her away from the crowd and towards the corner of the school where there is no one around. I see a few pack warriors glancing at us anxiously but Gwen wave them away.
I hear Rick says almost smugly, “I’m sure the sister is going to threaten the brother’s girlfriend about the consequences if breaking the brother’s heart.”
How right can he be!
