Lily

"Aaron..."

"Yeah?"

"I think I like you."

We lingered in this silence for a bit longer than necessary. His back was facing me, and his long fingers were on the keys of the piano, halting their melody.

"Thank you for telling me. You know, it takes guts to say that out loud." He said.

Of course I'd fucking know. That's why it had taken me a year to build up the courage to tell him.

"No, Aaron. No. It's unfair."

"What is?"

"That you just avoid the subject, as usual. I deserve a real answer!"
My tone was annoyed now. I wasn't angry. I'd known Aaron didn't feel anything for me, so this silent rejection wasn't a surprise. No, his amazing lack of concrete answers was definitely what was so nerve wracking to me.
He pursed his lips, before taking a sigh, as if he'd been the one who was rejected.

"Listen Lily, you're an amazing girl and all but-"

"Get to the point."

"I'm sorry. I don't feel the same way about you."

"Jesus! Was that so hard to say?"
I asked in a mocking voice, as I started to put my books back into my bag.
I threw my backpack on my shoulders, got up, and left the piano room, without saying goodbye.
