Chapter 10. "Actually, I love you."
Caleb's POV
It's been two years since the breakup. Lilly and I haven't talked since.
We've been trying to avoid each other as much as possible, but it seems I can never escape her presence.
I'd be at baseball practice, yet she would want to spend the night with Annie, so she has to be at my practices. Yes, she used her phone the whole time, but she was still there.
Sometimes I'd have to tag along to the gym to pick up Annie, and there she was too.
And she always seemed to be at my house! She'd practice gymnastics with Annie or just want to hang out, and it felt like she was always there.
Couldn't she just give me some space?!
Lilly's POV
Why can't Caleb give me some space?!
He's always there!
I'd be at gym practice, there he was!
I'd be with Annie at her house, trying to avoid him by being a room he doesn't normally go in, yet he's there!
Sometimes I'd walk home from piano practice and I'd pass the park he practices at, and there he was!
Why can't he leave me alone?!
Yet, I have to admit besides that, everything's been good.
I've still gotten pretty good grades, I've got good friends, and best of all, I found someone who really cared about me.
I found someone who could treat me the way I deserve to be treated, I found someone who treats me like the only girl in the world, I found someone who loves me for me, and doesn't care how weird I am or how strange my preferences.
I started dating Luke, one of Caleb's friends, about a week ago.
Everyone (including Annie and Hayley) think I'm dating Luke just to make Caleb jealous, but that's not the case here. I'm dating Luke because he makes me happy and treats me better than Caleb ever did.
Did I still have feelings for Caleb? Yeah, I guess, just a bit, but you have to move on. Only about 27% of people marry their first love.
Caleb was my first love, but I have to move on. I couldn't stay with someone that makes me unhappy.
Anyway, this morning I woke up to a FaceTime request from Luke.
I answered his call but covered the camera.
"Good morning, beautiful, why can't I see your face?" He asked me.
I chuckled. "Morning, Luke. And I look gross, I literally just woke up."
"Sorry to wake you. How did you sleep?" He asked me.
"Okay, I guess. You?" I asked as I continued covering the camera as I changed my clothes.
"Pretty good." Luke laughed. "Anyway, I wanted to know if you wanted to come with me to Caleb's house for their Easter party. I know you're mad at Caleb and kinda hate his guts right now, and I don't blame you, but please come!"
I giggled. "You're begging me to go before knowing my answer?"
Luke hesitated. "Look, I love you Lil, and I know it's only been a week, but I know you. I've known you for a while now, and I knew that you were going to say no. I know you're trying to avoid Caleb ever since he broke your heart, but don't worry; I'll be there, and so will Annie and Hayley and Sydney. Please go with me, because if not I'll be bored."
I smiled as I uncovered the camera with some regular clothes on and decent hair.
"Okay, I'll go. When is it?" I asked.
"In a couple hours. Don't worry, I'll pick you up." Luke said.
"Okay. I love you."
"Love you more. See you soon." Luke waved before hanging up.
Since we're all about 15 and 16, most of us can drive, including Luke.
I'm a bit older than him, but he likes to drive me places. So, I let him.
But because we're 15, we need a licensed driver in the car with us. So, his mom tagged along.
Don't get me wrong, I love Ms. Paula, but I kinda like being alone with Luke.
He pulled up in front of my house a little while after the FaceTime. I smiled and waved before hopping in the backseat of his car.
"Hey, Lil." He smiled at me from the front seat.
"Hi, Luke, Sydney, and Ms. Paula."
Ms. Paula and Sydney waved at me before Luke drove away from my neighborhood.
We arrived at Caleb's house about twenty minutes later, and Ms. Paula said she would head to the mall until we were ready to leave.
When we got to the front door, Luke held my hand.
"You ready?" He asked.
I nodded and rang the doorbell. I know it may seem stupid to be nervous to come to this house since I'm here a lot, but it's different, because this is Caleb's thing, not Annie or Hayley's.
Caleb opened the door with a smile, but it quickly faded when he realized who was at the door.
He stood there awkwardly and cleared his throat. "Lilly...you're here. Hey, Luke."
Luke waved awkwardly at him as Caleb let us in. Ever since Luke told Caleb he liked me (which was about a couple months ago), Caleb seemed to dislike Luke a bit. Annie and Hayley say it's out of jealously, which I half agreed with. He was probably a bit jealous because we were each other's first loves, but I don't think he has feelings for me, so he's okay with us dating.
Us three headed in together, but Sydney ran off when she saw Annie.
Luke and I said hello to most of our friends while holding hands. Then we headed over to the couch and just sat down.
"I'm bored," I said after a few minutes, "we've done nothing yet."
"What do you wanna do?" Luke asked me as he looked into my eyes.
I looked around the room and saw Hayley and Ryan playing Monopoly.
"We can join them." I said as I pointed to them.
Luke nodded and stood up. "Sure, whatever you like."
I smiled at him as we headed to Hayley and Ryan. That's what I love about Luke; we don't argue over meaningless things. Like if it was Caleb and I, he'd probably refuse and make an excuse like how he didn't want to play a game with his sister, or that he was too tired to leave the couch.
But I'm with Luke, and everything is better.
"Hey guys." I greeted.
Hayley smiled and hugged me. "Hi, Lilly. You guys wanna play?"
Luke and I nodded before pulling up a couple chairs and playing with Hayley and Ryan.
I honestly think they'd make a great couple, but they both insist that they're 'just friends' and that they're not ready to date anyone, which I understand since they're about 10 and 12.
We continued playing Monopoly until Ryan cried that he won (I'm pretty sure he cheated by...hiring an invisible wizard to help him cheat! Yeah, that's it), then Caleb called everyone over to get a slice of cake and ice cream.
"Alright guys, make a line!" Caleb called out.
Even though I was third in line, Caleb kept calling the others up until I was last.
"Oh, sorry, Lilly, didn't see you there. Here." He sloppily dropped ice cream and cake onto my plate as he gave me a fake smile. "Enjoy your food."
"Why are you being such a jerk?" I asked him as I picked up a fork.
"What are you talking about? I'm being my usual, kind self. You're being the jerk." Caleb replied.
I scoffed. "I don't want to start an argument, Caleb, so can we just stop talking to each other for tonight and pretend that we can be around each other?"
"No, I can't pretend that we can tolerate each other because I still like you. Yes, you started dating Luke, and yes I broke up with you, but I still like you. Actually, I love you. First loves are hard to get over, Lilly, and that's you. And I know it's probably way too late to be telling you this, but I had to tell you at one point." Caleb said.
My eyes grew wide. "Wow. Caleb, I'm flattered, but I'm sorry. We broke up over two years ago, and I've moved on. Luke makes me happy, and I hope you can find someone who can make you happy."
"You made me happy!" Caleb exclaimed.
I felt tears start to form in my eyes. God, why did I have to be so emotional?!
"But you didn't make me feel the same way." I said through tears before running off into the bathroom.
How could he do this to me? How could he tell me this now? He's had two years to admit his feelings for me and apologize, yet he did only one of those two things and he did it two years too late!
Why couldn't he except the fact that I had moved on and I was happy? Why couldn't he just accept that I was happy with Luke?
I guess he also had a broke heart after we broke up, and broken hearts are the most difficult things to fix.
A/N: Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2017 treats us well!
Here's another chapter (because ginnylove12 forced me 😂) and yeah! What do you think about it? Are you on team Caleb or team Lilly?
Do you think Caleb should've told Lilly how he felt earlier, or maybe we just figured out his feelings? Whose side are you on?
Hope you enjoyed this chapter! If so please don't forget to vote, comment, and share because I love your feedback!
Thanks guys, until next time ;)
