Hawkmoth?
Gabriel Agreste paced back and forth in his home office. "M'lady and Kitty" were definitely the nicknames used by Chat Noir and Ladybug. "Maybe they are just fans but, the earings were similar, and he once wondered about the ring his son always wore. Gabriel thought back and remembered that Marinette had been seen with the man who was the guardian at some point. That couldn't be a coincidence. Now the real question was if this were true, would he capitalize on this or move on as promised?
Gabriel felt perplexed. If the teens were indeed Paris's own superheroes, he had a chance to steal their miraculous while they slept, but at the same time, did he even want to do that? Both Natalie and Adrien would be so disappointed in him if he did.
Not being able to stop looking into it, Gabriel began to compare pictures of the teens' side by side to their superhero's persona. They matched perfectly, but this could be another coincidence. Right? I mean, there could be a lot of kids that looked close. He had to be wrong!
He remembers Adrien being in the same place as Chat Noir. How could he be in two different places at once? But, what if his son was really Chat Noir? He had continuously placed his son in danger over and over again.
Gabriel turned to face his wife's picture with tears in his eyes. Oh, how he missed her. Gabriel really did love her more than anything else in this world. She was his life. He wouldn't be here if not for her. She was the reason he became the great Gabriel Agreste. The reason he worked so hard every day.
That second, Natalie entered his office, holding on to her table to make him aware of the changes in the schedule. Sir, the photoshoot that you scheduled for today was postponed to tomorrow due to the rain. Also, the investors are asking for a meeting regarding his chances to the new fall line. Will you like me to schedule a time for the meeting? Gabriel had not heard her coming in since his mind was with Emily.
Natalie's heart broke upon the sight. Gabriel would never move on. He loved Emily too much to give his heart to her. She will never be able to compete with the ghost of Emily. She wanted to scream to tell him that, unlike Emily, she was alive and ready to love him, but deep inside, she knew it was no use.
For the first time in weeks, her smile vanished. Fighting the tears that formed in her eyes, she cleared her throat. Gabriel had been startled by the sound of her voice. He knew she would misunderstand the situation. Quickly Gabriel cleaned the tears from his cheeks and eyes before turning around. Gabriel turned to see a sight he hadn't seen in weeks.
Before him stood the old Natalie. The one that hid her emotions and was just as cold as he was or at least pretended to be. "Sorry to bother you, sir. I am here to inform you of the changes in your and Adrien's schedule, but I see that you are extremely busy. Therefore, I will leave this here so you can revise it. Excuse me." Natalie stated as she places the tablet on his desk.
"Natalie, I-" For the first time in his life, Mr. Agreste was cut off by Natalie. "No need, Mr. Agreste, it was my fault for not knocking, but everything is all too clear for me." She replied coldly, walking out of the office. Gabriel felt goosebumps and not the good kind. Once again, he messed everything up with his crazy obsession. Yes, Gabriel loved his wife and missed her dearly, but the truth was that Adrien was right. His wife would never forgive him for causing so much harm to Paris for her, and truth be told, he was happy with Natalie. He had begun to love her a while back. She was so much like both Emily and himself. She was amazing.
But somehow, he had messed up. "All is clear?" What did she even mean? He had not done anything. All he did was think? Gabriel let more tears fall as he sat in his chair with his hands in covering his face. Everything seemed to go wrong. He didn't understand why he had such bad luck when it came to love. First, he loses his real love and wife, then fails miserably in bringing her back, and now he loses the woman who was making him feel again.
Without any intention, Gabriel Agreste finally let it all out. He began to cry hard. No one had ever heard him cry so hard ever. No one, but Marinette, that is. She happened to be headed his way to speak to him about his offer. She was about to knock on his office door when she heard loud sobs. Worried for his well-being Marinette opened the door and ran towards him, pulling the man into a hug.
Gabriel almost jumped as he was startled by Marinette's reaction. "Marinette, I" "Shhh, it's okay, let it out. We all need to cry once in a while. You know, crying does not make you weaker. In fact, it is good to let out your bottled-in emotions. It helps you become stronger. Just remember you are not alone. We are here for you." Marinette cued as she held on to him tighter. "T-Thank you," was all Gabriel could say as he continued to cry.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Marinette asked softly, and he nodded. He didn't understand why but, somehow Marinette made him feel loved. He felt as if he could trust her with anything. In a few hours, Marinette had become the daughter he never had. All the emotions came out of nowhere. Gabriel couldn't explain it. This girl before him was so much like Emily. Emily would have loved her for Adrien. In a matter of minutes, Marinette had become like a daughter to him.
Cleaning his tears, Gabriel Agreste decided to speak the whole truth. He needed help, and he knew it, and for some reason, his heart told him Marinette was the right person to talk to about his problems. "Please don't hate me after hearing this," Gabriel choked out. "I will never, trust me," Marinette replied, giving his hand a gentle squeeze for reassurance.
Finding the confidence he needed, Gabriel took a deep breath and spoke, "I- I am, Hawkmoth," he managed to choke out. Marinette's eyes widened as a sudden rush of fear overpowered her. She gasped as she took a step backward. All she could think of was he knew who she was, and he wanted her miraculous.
"Y-you? Why? Why do all this?" she sturred out. "Please, don't hate me, Marinette just hear me out. I beg of you. I want to stop, I really do, but I can't. I need help," He said as another tear fell. "Why do this? Does Adrien know?" She asked, suddenly feeling angrier than she was scared. Gabriel shook his head. "No, I-I wanted to bring his mother back. I couldn't let go. I know what I did was wrong, but after I started, I couldn't stop. I mean, I have for a while now for Adrien, but it's so hard. I loved her so much. She was my happiness."
Marinette took a deep breath. Her head was telling her to transform and attack, but her heart was saying to stop and listen. This man needed help, he needed love, and she would give him just that.
Gabriel and Marinette talked for hours. He had let it all out. Gabriel went back from how the beginning and how they had found the miraculous on a trip. How the broken peacock miraculously caused Emily to go into a deep sleep, what the doctors said, showed her where he kept Emily and even showed her the Hawkmoth layer.
Marinette now understood everything. See, Hawkmoth was not a bad guy. He was a guy in pain, and each person handled their pain differently. Some are strong enough to move on, while others are not. He then spoke to her about Natalie and the events from hours ago.
"Natalie is hurt, Gabriel. She thinks she will never be good enough for you. She probably believes she will never compare to Emily. Think about it. Put yourself in her shoes for once. If the person you love and have stood by loving in secret finally gives you a chance to fight for him by telling you he wants to make a life with you but then is constantly thinking of a way to bring back or just wishing their first love was still here what would you think?
" How would you feel? Gabriel, she is hurt. Natalie truly loves all of you, even when you are in evil ways. Even when it meant she had to stand by you and watched you love another woman and fought to bring her back. Look, Gabriel, the truth is there is no way to bring her back. No magic in this world will be able to keep her alive. Bringing her back will only be temporary and more painful.
The miraculous might grant you the wish of her life back, but it takes something in return. It can be Natalie, Adrien, or even her memories of you, but it will never be as you wish it to be. You will always love Emily that we know, but Natalie is here. She is alive. She loves you and wants to be with you. It's time to move on. Give Emily the burial she deserves, give your son a grave to go to when he needs to speak to her, and give your heart the chance to heal.
"You admitted you love Natalie, Right? Then keep moving forward and stop looking back. Look at the future and not the past. Natalie is mad now, but if you show her that you truly care, I am sure she will forgive you. With all due respect, but you don't need Emily back. What you need is love. The love Natalie and Adrien can give you. If you just allow them to."
Marinette had spoken her mind. For a second, she believed Gabriel would be angry at her words. Therefore when he pulled her into a hug and thanked her for her words, she couldn't be more shocked. "What will you do now?" She asked as she looked around the room filled with white butterflies. "I think it's time to say goodbye to hawkmoth once and for all," Gabriel replied, pulling out both of his miraculous and giving them to Marinette. "Here you go, Ladybug. Please, forgive me for putting you in so much danger. I hope that you won't look at me differently. Marinette, you really have become like a daughter to me."
Marinette's jaw almost hit the floor. "W-what h-how?" she asked, confused. "I had my suspicions this morning. You know when Adrien called you M'lady, and you said kitty. You called each other by your superhero nicknames, but they were confirmed when you gave me your advice on the wish and when you didn't look shocked or scared heading to the place where the akumas are. Now the real question is? What happens to me now?" Gabriel replied, gulping nervously.
"Nothing. I might be Ladybug, but I am also Marinette. I am aware we are all humans and make mistakes, and I know you regret your actions but know that if you betray me again, I will not hesitate to end you," Marinette stated jokingly. Gabriel nodded thankfully. "No one must know about this, but we do have to speak to Adrien. He has to know the truth." She added, and Gabriel nodded once again.
"Thank you, Marinette. You have no idea how much all of this means to me. I am so glad my son chose you. You two were really meant for each other."
****My loyal readers this was a little filler I did, please forgive me if it wasn't as good as the others I was having writer's block. Now for a different question. I need your honest opinions.
