Chapter 9

A/N: godsdamed writers block... sorry guys...

Annabeth's POV
"We've heard that enough times," Annabeth muttered. She raised her voice. They had to stall for time until Calypso got there. "Porphyrion. Long time no see. So, just out of curiosity - why'd you keep the throne? I thought you would, you know, destroy it, or something."

"The throne?" Porphyrion rumbled. The other giants shifted ominously. "That is my throne, godling! I am Porphyrion, lord of the giants, slayer of the king of the gods himself! Why would I destroy my own throne?"

"Oh, well, you know," Annabeth said hastily, thinking fast. "You might want to redesign it. Like, have a better one built, something more grand, befitting a being of your status."

Porphyrion blinked. Then he threw back his head and laughed.

"Foolish mortal," he sneered. "You can't defeat me with flattery. Not when I have the earth on my side! Nothing can defeat her, she is the most powerful primordial!"

"Oh, um. As I recall, Gaea actually need you to help her wa - "

Annabeth stopped short. Percy drew a sharp breath.

In front of the army of giants, a huge dust cloud billowed up from the ground, whirling and forming until Gaea materialized in all her Dirt-Faced Glory. (A/N: credz to Rick for those last six words. Sadly.) She turned her swirling green gaze towards the two demigods.

"Annabeth Chase," Gaea murmured, her voice seeming to come from everywhere. "Back from the dead, hmm? You caused quite an uproar down in the Underworld. Of course, that Nico di Angelo was the real brains behind the plot. He was punished quite severely, I believe. And... my goodness. The great Perseus Jackson. You've gotten off Ogygia, I see."

"Well, it's a nice place, but a bit isolated, know what I mean?" Percy replied. "I don't really want to live there forever. I'd rather spend my days at Camp Half-Blood."

"Camp Half-Blood?" Gaea laughed softly. "Oh, my dear, don't lie to yourself. Even if you somehow managed to get your beloved camp back, Annabeth here will be going home by herself, I'm afraid. Quite tragic, but I fear that by coming here, you've sealed your fate."

"What do you mean?" Annabeth demanded, caught off guard. "We're gonna get Camp Half-Blood back. But I'm not going home by myself. Percy's coming with me. Right, Percy?" Annabeth gave him a sharp look. Percy looked away, his expression pained.

"R-right," he said, smiling in a forced sort of way that made it look more like a grimace.

"Percy," Annabeth said, a sinking feeling in her stomach. "What's going on?"

"Tell her," Gaea urged, her voice full of malicious laughter. "Tell your poor girlfriend that she's going home alone."

"I don't know what you're talking about," Percy muttered, confirming Annabeth's fears.

"Percy Jackson," she said, trying not to sound desperate. "You are a terrible liar."

"Well, this is all quite pleasant," Gaea interrupted in a sickeningly sweet voice. "But, unfortunately - I've decided that neither of you will be going home. Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter are gone along with the rest of the Western Civilization. You're not getting it back, because you can't defeat me. Now, would you like to be trampled, drowned, or vaporized? Of course, if you had something else in mind, I'm sure we can make arrangements."

"Actually, yeah, we had something in mind," Annabeth piped up. She would deal with Percy later.

"Is that so?"

"Yep," Annabeth said, popping the 'p'. "It's pretty special. We'll demonstrate. Just wait a minute." Come on, Calypso, she prayed inwardly. Hurry up!

Gaea laughed again. "Silly girl. I know what you're attempting. You can't succeed."

Annabeth glanced at Percy. He was watching Gaea, his sword ready, a determined expression on his face. Annabeth felt a rush of worry. She tried to push it down. Her Seaweed Brain was not going to do anything rash, not while Annabeth had any say in it.

"Well, maybe you - " Percy started, but broke off when a tree nymph landed on top of his head. The both collapsed onto the rock.

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" The dryad squeaked, blushing furiously. "I didn't mean to land on you, Calypso just - "

Annabeth sighed in relief as she took in the army that had just arrived. Hundreds of nymphs, bristling with various weapons that made them look rather terrifying. Nymphs weren't always quite as gentle as they seemed. Annabeth knew that from experience.

Calypso appeared at Annabeth's elbow, armed with a dagger. "Hey," she muttered. "Got as many as I could. Some of them chickened out last minute. We probably gave them too much time to decide."

"This is fine," Annabeth whispered back, gesturing at the horde of angry nature spirits. Raising her voice, she addressed Gaea. "What Percy was going to say was, maybe you underestimated us."

Gaea seemed surprised at the betrayal of the nymphs, but she quickly covered it. "Very well," she sneered. "But do you really think you can defeat me and my army with a bunch of pretty little girls?"

There were a few exclamations of outrage from the nymphs. Annabeth met Percy's gaze. She silently vowed not to let him out of her sight until this was over. She had a terrible feeling about the upcoming battle that she couldn't seem to shake.

"Let's see," she replied after a moment, turning back Gaea.

A battle cry went up from the nymphs. Calypso raised her dagger and yelled "Charge!" The army of nymphs surged forward. Annabeth grabbed Percy's hand. "Ready?"

"No."

"Then let's go."

They jumped off their rock and hit the boggy ground running, making a beeline for the Parthenon while around them all hades broke loose.

A/N: bit of a filler. I'm probably gonna wrap this book up in the next few chapters, because I'm not sure where it's going. Yeah. This fic kinda failed. But anyway, stick around. Actually maybe you shouldn't... mwahaha I know something you don't... >:-) also I know this chappie is confuzzling, and you're probably like what the hades, but it will all make sense in the end, I swear. On the Styx, in fact. I just keep doing huge time skips bc I'm lazy and I just want to get this fic over with.

Yours in demigodishness, and all that.
Peace out
