Wanda was different, she knew that. She was seen as a threat, and the public had made sure she knew that too. Yes she wasn't in control of abilities but she was trying why couldn't they see that. Despite her persistence, Steve and Tony had forbidden her from using her powers both outside the Compound and on missions, at least, they said, until they had had the time to study the science behind the stones in order to better understand her abilities.

At that moment, Wanda made her decision. She was tired of waiting.

~ ~ ~

She started slowly, simply levitating small objects around her room; her phone, a small picture of her and Pietro as kids, Natasha's leather jacket. Initially it took a lot out of her, but after a few days she was able to do without passing out soon after.

Wanda began moving objects in front of her teammates, at first they were taken aback by her newfound control but, as the weeks went on, quickly accepted it. Which was what Wanda wanted, she wanted the normalization of her abilities, she wanted people to see she only had good to offer.

Despite the gradual acceptance of her powers from her teammates, allowing her a restart on her public presence with invites to small-scale missions and Tony's endless gala's, Wanda was still an outsider. At the end of her day or during any downtime she went back to her room alone.

That word alone, how she hates it. She knew deep down that loneliness was her fault, her problems were her own to fix, but a dark bitterness was ever present. It wasn't as easy to make the friends, the connections, as Clint had often told her. With him slowly pulling back for a left unsaid but widely known retirement, Wanda now saw him even less.

If only there was a way to make people your friends.

That opportunity practically fell into her lap when young Avenger, Peter Parker, brought you to the Tower.

His best friend, ONE of them in fact. That boiled Wanda's blood.

You tripped over a upturned corner of a large white rug, crashing into Wanda as she passed. As you rushed out apologies Wanda understood the opportunity she had been given. You two would be friends. She would be everything to make sure of it.

Starting small Wanda delved into your mind as you tried to laugh off fall with Peter. On the surface as expected was embarrassment but as she dug deeper through your feelings and memories she found loneliness. A loneliness not unlike her own, an anxious fear hidden in your mind. A common ground Wanda could use. Perhaps the both of you could help each other, Wanda could heal you, and so she planted that seed in your mind.

~ ~ ~

Over the next months as Tony enrolled Peter into the Team, his visits and stays became more frequent, and as his childhood friend, so did yours. Everytime you just so happened to pass each other in the corridors Wanda nourished that seed, until one time you felt an odd need to speak to Wanda.

It was in the kitchen just after half 9 in the morning, Wanda was sitting at the breakfast bar reading.

"Um excuse me, Wanda?"

"Good morning Y/N."

"Hi, yes, good morning Wanda. I realized I haven't properly induced myself yet, and I was wondering whether you'd want to hang out sometime?"

Wanda smiled as you awkwardly played with your hands, waiting for an answer.

"Of course Y/N, I would love to. Why don't we go to my room? I'd love to learn more about your American schools."

In reality it was Wanda who did most of the talking, she made sure of that. She had to give you her side of her life story, else you would be corrupted by the lies others said about her. She was the victim and you would be the first person to believe her on that.

"Wanda, that's so awful, I'm sorry you had to go through that."

"It's alright Y/N I have made my peace with it, but it's good to have a friend to vent to. We are friends aren't we, Y/N?"

"Um yes, of course we are Wanda."

"Good, I feel I can rely on you."

"And I, I feel like I can rely on you too."

"You feel like you can or you do?" Wanda asked, a serious look on her face. She couldn't have you leave and betray her too, like Clint did.

"I rely on you, Wanda."

"That's lovely to hear Y/N, thank you."

"Of course Wanda, we're friends after all."
