The Carnival
A continuation of:
I Belong With You
And
Let me help you...
The next morning the sun was shining bright and turned the sky pink. Stampy though secretly terrified was also excited and went room to room waking everyone up.
First on the list was Stacy and Lizzie who luckily had their door open a smidge because of the summer heat. As Stampy opened the door it was the first time he saw the new room. Sure it was still mostly blue but Lizzie also added in some pink to the mix. Classic Lizzie, he thought.
Entering the room Stampy wanted to poke Lizzie (or Stacy) awake instead of knocking on the door. But as he came closer to the bed he noticed something. One, the two women where holding each other in their sleep; and two, they were both practically naked. Embarrassed Stampy covered his eyes and left the room, knocked on the door a bunch and left.
Did they? No they couldn't... but how? Eww! He thought. I'll just stick to knocking on doors.
The next room was his so he didn't need to go back in there, then there was Dan's room across from his. Taking in a deep breath Stampy knocked on the door. "Dan! It's time to wake up!"
There was a muffled yell, "Stampy do you know what time it is? It's seven in the morning!"
"Never too late to be early!" Stampy said before bouncing to Sparklez room.
Since Lizzie moved in with Stacy, Sparklez decided to move into Lizzie's room. Everyone agreed that he deserved a room instead of living in the basement. So Stampy knocked on the door and was shocked when Sparklez opened up.
"Stampy? What's wrong, is everything okay?" He asked.
"What? No, I'm fine!" Stampy bubbled.
"Then why are you waking me up? It's the weekend." Sparklez pointed out.
"The carnival is today! You know, the one that celebrates a good year. Farmers come in to sell their crops, performers show off their acts before they make it big. It's important!" Stampy explained.
"I think your just interested in the cake contest. Mr judge." Sparklez said.
"How did you know!" Stampy cried.
"It's obvious. Cake. You. Contest. Might as well wear a sign that says 'I'm a cake' on it," Sparklez sighed, "I'll be downstairs in a few minutes."
Stampy gave him a smile and rushed downstairs to wake up Anthony. Only to get down there to see that Anthony was still in the jail box.
"You forgot to let me out." He said.
"Sorry Anthony!" Stampy apologized. Lifting up the box so Anthony could crawl out, Stampy was excited for the day ahead.
~~~
It was now nine o'clock and mostly everyone was downstairs. Stampy was making breakfast, oddly not cake. Sparklez was helping Anthony fold the jail box. And then Stampy heard footsteps come down the stairs. He looked over his shoulder and saw Lizzie and Stacy standing there walking into the kitchen.
"Do I smell... eggs?" Lizzie asked.
"Yeah," Stacy agreed, "is that bacon? Stampy are you cooking an actual breakfast?"
Stampy scoffed, "Cake is an actual breakfast! But in your case, yes."
"I never knew you could cook, Stampy." Lizzie praised.
"Don't praise him yet Lizzie, for all we know he could burn it." Stacy pointed out.
"I won't burn it!" Stampy argued.
"Whatever." Stacy said.
Stampy flipped an egg, to which Lizzie clapped, but Stacy didn't look that impressed. Stampy decided that he should take advantage of the situation to ask the girls a question. "Well while you guys are here, can I ask you something?" Stampy said.
The girls looked at each other but Lizzie spoke their thoughts, "Sure, what is it."
"Don't be freaked out but... I was going to wake you up this morning but your door was open. So I thought I could wake you guys up peacefully instead of knocking." Stampy explained.
Stacy looked sceptical, but Lizzie looked intrigued to see where this was going.
"I just wanted to know why you guys were... Did you two... You know. That?" He asked.
Lizzie went pink like her hair and didn't say anything. To which Stacy growled, "You could've just knocked, it would've been find. But to feed your curiosity, we where hot. That's it. Next time don't go into other people's rooms without knocking. Otherwise, I'll break your leg!"
In a huff Stacy walked away and Lizzie followed behind her. Who knew Stacy was such a little devil, Stampy thought. And that Lizzie was such a little king dice. He shook it off, focusing back on his cooking.
When Stampy finished it was eight thirty, and Dan was no where in sight. So as everyone was grabbing eggs and bacon Stampy made (which he purposely made for everyone else), he went upstairs and knocked on Dan's door. No answer.
So he knocked again, still no answer. By the third to!e he heard something moving in the room and heard someone open the door. It was Dan. "What?" He asked.
"It's nine thirty, and breakfast is ready." Stampy said.
"I'm not in the mood for cake right now, Stamps." Dan groaned.
Stampy sighed, "It's eggs and bacon."
With a surprise look on his face Dan slammed the door shut, right in Stampy's face. Pressing his ear against the door Stampy heard a muffled voice, probably Dan talking to himself. He invaded privacy once today he wasn't going to do it again.
Twelve o'clock, everyone was ready to head out for a day of fun. Since Stampy was actually a judge for the cake contest he had to be there about an hour before the competition began.
So as the group arrived everyone split up into three groups. Stacy and Lizzie, Sparklez and Anthony, finally Dan and Stampy being in a group.
"So we'll all meeting up at the awards ceremony for the cake contest right?" Lizzie asked.
"Yes I believe so." Sparklez said.
"Well then let's get move on!" Anthony cheered, walking off. To which Sparklez ultimately followed. Lizzie and Stacy went in a different direction, leaving Dan and Stampy alone.
"Are you sure you want to spend the day with me?" Stampy asked.
Dan gave Stampy a smile, "Of course! Why wouldn't I want to spend the day with my best friend?"
Yeah... best friend. Stampy thought. But there was no time because they where needed elsewhere. The cake competition.
A few hours into the carnival the street was already packed with people. Stands and tents covered the sidewalks showing off goods. Farmers sold some extra crops they had, and there where also some performance acts. One of which attracted Sparklez and Anthony's attention.
It was a man doing a comedy skit. "Don't talk to your parents while you're crying," he said, "because your mom is going to hit you right in your soft spot. And your dad is going to make you look like an idiot!" To which the crowd laughed. He continued with his skit, acting like a mother and a father.
While Anthony couldn't stop laughing, Sparklez walked away unexpected forcing Anthony to stop watching the act. This kept happening every time they saw an act. Anthony would be interested but Sparklez would always walk away.
"You don't have to keep following me you know." Sparklez told him.
"I know, I just want to see you have a good time. Let loose, it's the weekend!" Anthony said.
"That's true, but I don't want to be here. Not like I don't like hanging out with you." Sparklez explained.
Anthony thought about what he said for a second then spoke. "You can go home if you want. You're probably really stressed about the new job and all and I'm sure you just want to relax. So go, I'll be fine. Everyone will understand."
"Thanks Anthony." Sparklez thanked.
Anthony chuckled, "No problem. Now go, shoo! I need to get some giggles before I die of boredom!"
Just like that the two parted ways. Anthony heading back to the performers to get a laugh, and Sparklez heading home. Sparklez worked the most out of all the friends and needed some time to himself, he was thankful to have a friend like Anthony.
Down the street the atmosphere switched from shopping and performance to games and fun. Because all the games where there, along with a few more scattered out performances. Of course, Lizzie was attracted by the cute stuffed animals set as prizes. Although for kids some teens played some games as well, this was a time to have fun!
As Lizzie and Stacy walked down the street, trying not to trample kids, Lizzie suddenly stopped and gasped. Stacy didn't have to ask what was wrong because she knew what Lizzie was looking at. A little pink cat plushie that stood right next to one of those games where the person has to guess your age.
"Stacy," Lizzie gasped, "look at it! It's so cute!"
"What do you want me to do about it? If you want it go try and win it!" Stacy said.
"I look exactly my age this guy is going to guess it before I walk up to him! Come on please!" Lizzie said.
"No." Stacy huffed.
"Please! Come on all I ask is for some love!" Lizzie begged.
"Fine!" Stacy sighed giving in.
Lizzie squealed with joy and watched Stacy go up to the man. At closer look he wasn't a man but more of a teenager hanging around some friends. But the moment he saw Stacy walk up he said, "Let me guess. Twenty four to thirty?"
Stacy smirked, "I'll take this King Dice plushie and I'll be on my way."
"Oh really? How do I know you aren't lying?" The teen said.
Stacy just groaned and pulled out an ID from her pocket handing it to the guy. His face went from smug to shocked in a matter of seconds. "Wow you're old!" He said.
Stacy quickly snatched back the card and put it in her pocket and walked back to Lizzie. Though Lizzie looked disappointed when Stacy arrived. "What?" She asked.
"Wrong plushie, Stace..." Lizzie growled.
"Hey I was just embarrassed today, give me a break! Besides I like King Dice! Look at him! He's so cute!" Stacy admitted.
"Baka!" Lizzie shouted, gathering people's attention. A parent even covered a kids ears and shot her a dirty look.
"Don't make me out to be the bad guy here. I won this fair and square." Stacy explained.
"You're never the bad guy! You always think you are but you aren't!" Lizzie yelled.
"Okay, this is totally unnecessary. People are starting to stare, Miss. Drama Queen." Stacy sarcastically said.
"I'm the drama queen? You're more dramatic than me! With those dang poems you keep on writing! It's like you're not even telling me how you feel! You just keep hiding it all in a notebook, and guess what? You treat that notebook better than you treat me!" Lizzie shouted some more. With some gasped from the people watching.
"We don't have time for this, can't we just talk about this later?" Stacy asked.
"You say that but we never get to it. You just forget and go back to that little notebook of yours, it's like you don't even care." Lizzie said.
Stacy wasn't having this and finally snapped. "Well I'm sorry if I don't treat you like a damn princess! I'm just a thirty-five year old lesbian trying to deal with her own problems, but I'm stuck dealing with this. I'm sorry if I'm not up to your standards as a lover. Here's a tip for you; Give me some space! Ever heard of PDA? Learn it bitch!"
Lizzie started to tear up, ". . . Jerk!" Slapping Stacy across the face before running off crying.
It was almost time for the awards for the contest to be announced. Lizzie was sitting on a bench away from the rest of the carnival talking to herself, "Stupid Stacy... Stupid me... Why did I think I could trust her? Of course she goes against her word, what was I thinking? What am I thinking? Why did I even yell at her in the first place?"
"You know you really shouldn't talk to yourself, people will think you're weird." Said a feminine voice.
Lizzie looked up and it was Stacy smiling sweetly at her. "What do you want." Lizzie asked in a 'leave me alone' tone.
"I wanted to say I'm sorry. You know for calling you a bitch and a damn princess, we both know you're none of those things. So I'm sorry," she apologized, "stop crying. You're too cute to cry."
"S-shut up." Lizzie sniffled.
"Hey... I got you something." Stacy said.
Stacy moved her hands from behind her back to reveal not the cat plushie Lizzie wanted but a different plushie. Or rather two plushies. One was her King Dice plushie of course. The other was the Devil from the game Cuphead.
"I know it's not what you wanted but think of it this way. I'm King Dice and you're the Devil... not in a bad way! As in you're a little devil to be around." Stacy explained.
"Not helping." Lizzie groaned.
"Hey I'm trying! It's been a hard few months... more like few years for me. I've never really been the same when you... you know. But when you came back I started feeling weird around you. When I realized it was love my opinions started to change. I thought that I was crazy and a slut for liking another woman, I thought you wouldn't want to talk to me again if I told you how I felt. That's one of the reasons I usually keep to myself, it's why I don't like sharing things about myself. It's why I express myself best in poems," Stacy sighed but continued, "can we just... talk about this later? And I promise I won't forget this time. I'm just trying to be a good girlfriend and I-"
Stacy's sentence was cut short by a sudden kiss from Lizzie. When Lizzie pulled away she said. "You talk too much you know that?"
Stacy just blushed slightly and Lizzie took the little devil out of her hands. "He is kind of cute... not as cute as you though."
Stacy muttered under her breath, "Oh my gosh..."
Lizzie giggled, "Come on. Stampy is about to announce the cake winners soon. We don't want to be late! But we better have that talk later!"
"It's a date." Stacy said causing her to get punched in the shoulder by Lizzie.
~~~
The whole day for Dan was watching Stampy eat cake and managing to have room in his stomach to inhale more. But as the day rolled over and Dan actually got to try some of the cakes (not that he knew how to judge), some of them where really good!
But as it was about to become eight p.m. and the ceremony for the cake awards were about to begin Stampy dragged Dan to the side backstage.
"Are you nervous?" Dan asked.
"Nervous? No, not for this. But I'm nervous about something..." Stampy admitted.
"What is it?" Dan asked concerned for his friend.
Stampy looked around before whispering into Dan's ear. "The catnip man told me to meet him at the corner of walnut and chestnut instead of handing out the award. What do I do?"
"Relax Joseph, I got this. You just do your thing and I'll take care of it." Dan said.
"D-dan..." Stampy stuttered.
"I promise I'll come back unharmed. How bad can a catnip seller be? Relax, I'll be back before you know it!" Dan reassured him.
Before Stampy could object Dan was running in the other direction. He couldn't even stop it because he was instantly directed onto the stage.
The corner of walnut and chestnut street was a very nutty intersection you could say. Nut shops surrounded the area, all being closed at this hour. Dan looked at his watch 8:06. As he looked around he saw a man in a dark red hood standing underneath a lamp post.
"Hey, are you the catnip guy?" Dan asked keeping a distance from the man.
The man looked up at Dan. "Who wants to know?"
"A friend of Stampy. I want you to leave him alone, he isn't interested in your catnip." He explained.
"What," the man yelled, "he said he would be here. Who are you? An undercover guard or something?"
"No I'm just his friend." Dan said.
The man laughed, "Boyfriend is a better word for it."
"What!" Dan gasped.
"You clueless fool. You've been too caught up crying over some lesbian to realize that someone else hand feelings for you. Open your eyes boy, you lost a chance with a good kid. What a shame, he actually loved you." The man said.
"What are you talking about? Stampy isn't gay!" Dan argued.
"Is he? From my understanding he buys catnip as a way to imagine a world where he can be with you. Because he knows you aren't gay. Careful, you'll break his little heart." The man chuckled.
"Shut up..." Dan grumbled.
"No matter," the man said, "tell Stampy I'll be back here at this time tomorrow. If he wants his nip then he'll bring me the money. Oh and Dan? Nice seeing how much you really care."
"How'd you know my... get back here!" Dan shouted.
The man started to run but was chased by Dan who wasn't too far behind. But something flew past him and tackled the man on to the hard sidewalk. In the blink of an eye there where at least five more men, one of them walked up to Dan. He was wearing a long black coat that covered his whole body, but his face was clear.
Dan gasped, "Sparklez? What's going on!"
It was Sparklez! He patted Dan on the shoulder and said, "Good work Dan. We've been tracking this guy for months and we finally caught up to him."
"That doesn't answer my question. What is all this?" Dan asked.
"This is my job. Tracking down criminals and bringing them to justice. When I heard this guy was messing with Stampy I knew he was my first target, but it looks like you found him yourself." Sparklez explained.
"I... what?" Dan cocked his head to the side.
Sparklez sighed, "I followed you. Look here's what you need to tell Stampy. Tell him that the man didn't show up and he won't be bothering him anymore. And you can't tell anyone about this, all anyone needs to know is that I am a security guard."
"So this whole time you where taking down criminals?" Dan asked.
"Yes, but no one can know. You're already bringing too much danger onto yourself. So just go back, live life, and have fun. Just remember not to tell anyone, especially Anthony. Now off you go, back to the carnival with you!" Sparklez said.
"What about you!" Dam argued.
"Hm? I'll see you at home. Now what did I just say? Go!" Sparklez yelled.
And just like that, Dan was running back towards the carnival while Sparklez and his four colleagues where arresting the catnip man.
~~~
By the time Dan got back it was almost time for the fireworks which where an annual tradition for the carnival. Stampy, Stacy, Lizzie, and Anthony were all on the roof of their home when they saw Dan running like he was about to be trampled by a bull. When Dan got up there he was flooded by sweat and questions.
"Dan it's eight thirty where have you been? The shows about to start!" Stacy scolded.
"Give him a break I'm sure he was busy." Lizzie said.
"Yeah... I... Was..." Dan said between breaths, sitting next to Stampy.
"What happened to the man?" Stampy whispered into Dan's ear.
"Don't worry, he won't be bothering you anymore." Dan promised.
"Shut up and look!" Anthony said.
The first firework went off and lit up the night sky. First it was just bursts of color then it became shapes and soon, animal faces. Kids and Adults alike admired the pretty sight, but it was even more beautiful from higher up.
Lizzie put her head on Stacys shoulder as they watched the display of colors. Anthony clapped and whooped throughout the first five seconds. Dan looked over at Stampy and his own little fireworks going off in his eyes.
"Hey Stampy?" Dan asked."
"Yeah?" Stampy said.
Dan leaned over and put his arm around Stampy pulling him closer. And if it was cued, Dan kissed him. To Stampy it was a kiss that was long over due, but to Dan it meant the start of something new.
