Garden of Shadows
Once upon a time, a time when your great ancestors where young two children went missing. The year was 1862, no one knows where exactly but all the same two children went missing.
The older one was Daniel (Dan), Middleton: 11. He had a rather great life for his father worked for the city guard. Though, his father was never around and so was his mother. Poor Daniel was left all alone most of the time. So one day he went out and made a friend. A friend who he would grow close to and would go on adventures with.
This friend was Elizabeth (Lizzie), Dwyer: 10. She was an orphan and never knew her parents. Though some say her parents where murdered or assassinated. But those were just rumors, nothing true about them. Yes, she did live in an orphanage but would all too often sneak out and go on adventures, which is how she found Daniel.
So one day the two wandered into the woods for they saw a man in an orange coat frolicking around the nearby meadow. They didn't see the man's face but they kept there distance, they didn't want to scare him. And that day was also the day they went missing. "Quiet Dan, he'll hear us!" Lizzie hissed.
"You be quiet, Liz!" Dan shot back.
Lizzie wrinkled her nose. "Oh really? Well, you- did you hear that?"
"I think I did. Do you hear a sheep-ish noise?" Dan asked.
"Mhm. Is that guy carrying a lamb?" Lizzie answered.
The two hid together in a bush and continued to spy on the man. And they did hear correctly, for the sheep like noise came from the man. When he spoke he had the kindest British accent the children have ever heard. "Don't be afraid. I'm not baaaad! Sorry, I slipped. Come on out!" He said.
The two kids looked at each other thinking, Can we trust this guy?
Dan was a little more suspicious while Lizzie almost immediately walked out of the bush after her thought. "Lizzie!" Dan called out to her but ended up chasing her over to the man.
The sheepish man smiled and made a 'follow me' motion with his hand, and he started to walk away deeper into the woods and the children followed. Well, Lizzie did, Dan was only following her not the man.
As the man wandered deep into the forest he suddenly stopped in a clearing. The children were confused but became somewhat reassured by the man's warm smile. He stepped back a few paces and then started to run into the clearing and it was revealed that this man was not a man, but a satyr. Of course, his orange coat was still there (though there was a little hole where his little goat tail was) but his pants were gone which revealed his goat legs. When the man shook his head like a dog his ears turned into goats ears and two little numbs appeared on his head.
Lizzie stood there amazed, she'd never thought that this man was a satyr. But now, with all the 'baaa's and such, it made sense.
But Dan didn't take this realization the same way. He just started to laugh at the satyr. Okay, he wasn't laughing at him, he was laughing at his small horns. "That's it? Those aren't horns! Those are nubs!" Dan joked. But much to Dan's enjoyment, Lizzie did not think that was funny. So she hit him in the chest. "Ow!" Dan cried.
"Be nice!" Lizzie scolded him. "What if someone laughed at you because you looked a little strange?"
"To be fair, I don't have a whole lot of friends." Dan justified.
The satyr made one of his goat sounds and caught the children's attention. "Baaa! Well, fear not child, for you won't be lonely any longer!" The satyr then took out this flute-like instrument and started to play. It was a nice and happy tune, you can't help but want to dance when listening to it.
As the satyr walked on back into the woods the children continued to followed entranced by his song. Though they did not realize that they were in a place that no human should wander. A forest of shadows that killed any human that walks into it. But thanks to the satyr's song they were protected by this 'bubble' that would not let any darkness seep inside.
Though when the satyr stopped playing to catch his breath something grabbed him and he was pulled into the bushes. "Mr. Satyr man!" Lizzie cried.
"No time! Run!" Dan yelled.
So they ran, they ran and ran for as long as they could. Until they bumped into someone. "Uh sorry," Dan muttered. But as the person turned around the two children saw that it was not a human, but a werewolf. How could they tell? Well she (for it was a woman) had a wolfs eyes, and wolf ears that where similar to the satyrs. She also had a tail which wagged slowly from side to side.
"What are human children doing this far out in the woods? At this time of night?" She asked.
"We... were following... a satyr, but... he was taken!" Lizzie explained, breathing heavily.
"Calm down child, you're safe with me." The woman said. She had a reassuring voice like the satyr, though Dan was just suspicious as before.
"Why should we trust you? You're a werewolf! You are probably going to eat us!" Dan argued.
But the woman laughed in response as if he just made a funny joke. "You actually believe that story about werewolves? I'd hate to be the one who breaks it to you, but that's far from the truth. We're actually really nice, and have you ever stopped to think that it was the humans who attacked us first?"
She was right. In the story about werewolves, the humans killed a few werewolf pups in their 'wolf forms' and mistook them as werewolves when they got too close to the village. "I guess you're right," Dan mumbled not wanting to admit she was right. "But I still don't trust you!"
"Fair enough. Besides satyrs are nothing more than drunken goats. Follow me, and stay close. I won't let the dark magic of these woods get to you." She assured.
Dan and Lizzie were walking right next to the she-wolf as if she was their mother. And whenever they heard a strange noise, the werewolf would always growl at it and then the sound would stop. Is she scaring the noises away? That's amazing! Dan thought.
Half an hour later they stopped to rest, for the two kids have been walking and running for almost an hour now. And as the werewolf went hunting a bird in one of the trees something jumped out of the bushes and grabbed Lizzie. She screeched and Dan grabbed her arm and tried pulling her away from the being. But the she-wolf came back and forced him to let go. "What are you doing!" Dan yelled. "Save her!"
"I won't." Said the she-wolf. "I can't."
"Well, why not!" Dan growled as if he was a werewolf himself.
"Because of him." The she-wolf said, pointing to the thing that had Lizzie.
Everything had happened so fast that Dan didn't get a chance to see what took his friend. But when he did he saw that the thing didn't move too far. In fact, it was staying still. And it wasn't a random beast, it was the satyr. "Calm down child. Everything is okay. You're safe from the werewolf now."
The she-wolf let go of Dan and growled at the satyr. "So Stampy... we meet again."
The satyr put little down and stood in front of her. "Hello, Stacy. It's been awhile hasn't it?"
"Don't use that on me Stampy. I know what your satyr friends are doing. Trying to get more than one child. You know we're falling like stars! We need these children more than you do! You stupid drunk goats!" Stacy (the she-wolf) spat.
"Drunk goats!" Stampy the satyr said, clearly disgusted. "You filthy dogs! So what if your numbers are dwindling? We need these kids just as much as you! So don't tell me that we are the ones being selfish. Because it's you! You're the baaaaad ones!"
"I'll show you who's a filthy dog!" The werewolf growled.
The children were too afraid to stop what was about to happen next. Teeth bared, Stacy the she-wolf charged that Stampy the satyr. Though before she could attack, he played his flute-like instrument and that bubble appeared around him and Lizzie. So when the werewolf's hand touched the bubble, it burned her.
"Why you sneaky little sheep! I'll rip your throat out!" She threatened.
The satyr chuckled. "I doubt it. Because you'll never catch me!" In one swift motion, he picked up Lizzie and tucked her under her arm, then jumped into the trees.
And the last thing Dan heard from Lizzie was, "Let me go! Dan! Help!"
Dan tried to climb the tree after her but Stacy picked him up, threw him over her shoulder and ran in the other direction. "Where are you going? Lizzies up there! We have to help her!" Dan argued. He tried to kick and thrash and wiggle his way out, but the werewolf's grip was strong and firm.
"No point in trying to argue with a drunk goat. Sorry pup, but she's a satyr now and you're a werewolf." She said.
"What!" Dan yelled. Did she just call me pup?
Though he didn't get an answer right away, because one moment he was being carried by a werewolf and the next he was riding a giant wolf. But that ride only lasted a few seconds, because a branch hit him in the face so hard he blacked out.

Dan woke up that morning with the suns rays in his eyes. He shifted and turned in what felt like a bed. His ears twitched and his nose felt stuffy. And then he realized what happened to him.
Sitting up abruptly he felt his ears. He had werewolf ears. When he looked behind he saw a wolf tail. He was a werewolf. Something or someone did this to him. And then he saw that same she-wolf walk into the room and he growled. "What did you do to me!"
"Calm down Dan. From this day forward you're a werewolf. This is your home now, there's no turning back." She said, like the night before her voice was comforting.
"That still doesn't explain why I'm here or why I have wolf ears!" He argued.
The she-wolf sighed then started to explain. "Our pack used to be one of the greatest things about this forest. Though recently... humans have been killing us off. That's why I took you. You seemed sad enough, I could tell from your soul. So I thought you would have a better life here. That cursed satyr saw the same thing in your friend. We've resorted to taking orphaned or runaway children who wander into the woods. I'm sorry but this is what has to be done. Werewolves and Satyrs are fighting for children. It's not that simple to just have a natural werewolf pup or satyr fauns."
"Okay? But... how am I a werewolf then? You didn't bite me... did you?" Dan asked, slightly afraid that this werewolf bit him in his sleep.
She scoffed. "Rumors. That's not how it works. We have a Werewolf Shaman. He can turn humans, or any creature, into a werewolf. When I brought you here last night I took you straight to him. Enough questions, rest my pup, the next few years are going to be hard ones."
~~~
No one knew where the children went. Dan's father searched and searched for his son, with help or without. He was desperate to find his son. After two years of searching, he gave up.
As for Lizzie. Well... no one really seemed to care. She didn't have a family so why would anyone care? Sure, a few of her friends missed her. But eventually, after six years they forgot about her.
The two friends would not meet again until six years after they went 'missing'. And by then... so much about them would have changed.
