Runaway

Request by Goldendoodlegamer11

It was all one giant blur. One moment he was minding his own business and the next locked away in a filthy prison. Nine years later he managed to break free and escape! Now that makes him a runaway, possibly even worse than being a prisoner.

He ran North, or at least he hoped it was North he couldn't tell. The only way he knew it was North was that there was less and less city and more and more farmland. "Up town!" he cried, "I'm up town! If I can get to Canada I'll be free!"

At this point it was almost 1800, the United States was already a country but Canada stayed loyal to the crown. Even decades later it was hard being a Loyalist in a country that was all Patriot. Lost in his thoughts he didn't realize the person in front of him, so he quickly stopped but fell onto his knees. To any person, even a farmer they would know he was a prisoner. His ripped clothing and stains show plenty.

Without getting off his knees he looked up and saw a man. A man with a giant orange coat, a green somewhat bandana like fabric wrapped around his waste multiple times, and an orange top hat. The man bent down and got a closer look at him. With a shocked expression he asked, "Dan?"

The runaway who's name was Daniel, also said with a shocked expression, "Stampy?"

The man in the orange top hat stood up and held out a hand which Dan took to help him get up. But before he could talk to his long time friend he was pushed into a bush and was shushed. Though peeking through the bush leaves he saw two soldiers dressed entirely in blue run up to Stampy.

"Have you seen a runaway?" One of them asked.

Stampy shook his head which caused the other soldier to look at his friend. "British immigrants am I right?"

The two soldiers ran off and Dan got out from the bush. "Thanks..."

"Don't thank me yet, I still have to get you out of here!"

"Not more running... I haven't had a decent meal in almost a decade! I don't know how long I can last, Stampy!"

Without a word Stampy whistled and in response a horse came running to them. Wow. It was the only thing you could say when you saw it, a white horse with small brown spots on it's face and a blond mane that made you think it was a military horse. But now was not the time for admiring, for the military (at least in Manhattan) was after him. Dan got onto the horse behind his friend and they were off.

Being in a prison for so long only made Dan question, "Um... Do you know where you're going? Last time I checked you didn't know how to ride a horse!"

"It's been almost a decade, I know what I'm doing Dan! I'm taking you to the frontier, trust me you'll be a little less in danger there."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Though seemingly difficult (which it was), they managed to get out of the city and off the island. Now they were in the unknown frontier of the north east.
Only going as fast as a trot Dan thought it was now a good time to talk to his friend. "So how is everything? Stacy, Sparklez... Lizzie?"
"Why ask when you'll see for yourself?"
"I just don't want to be awkward! I want to know whats happened to my friends after all these years. What if something bad happened? What if I missed something? What if-" but he was cut off by hearing the sound of drums in the distance.
"Not those patrol men again... It's getting dark too, we could set up camp in the woods and continue in the morning," Stampy said to himself, he paused for a second and continued to talk to himself, "Yeah... that's seems like a good plan. Good job Stampy, you did good."
Stampy grabbed the bride and made the horse turn into the woods. Dan never understood the whole horse thing, he was more of a walking type of man. Then again, he never left the city in over a decade.
Night fell and the sound of drums came and went. In every group of soldiers there was one drummer boy, he kept the soldiers marching with the beat in a way. And if you think about it, Dan could've been a drummer boy. But it wasn't really his cup of tea, considering how much he liked tea; you could only imagine the look of his face when he read about the Boston tea party.
Thinking about all this tea was making Dan, thirsty. But yet no water around, though Stampy assured him that they would get to Concord tomorrow for supplies and then off to the homestead. Which only made Dan question more. "What is the homestead? Or I guess... where is the homestead?"
Stampy just chuckled as he lit a fire using rocks. "You're just going to keep asking questions aren't you?"
"Well we did split ways a while back. Ahem I meant I was arrested!"
"Okay, okay hold your horses! Litteraly!"
Unsurprisingly the horse was walking around, clueless f where it's going. Dan grabbed the bridle and tied it to a branch before sitting near the fire. "So what did happen to everyone? I want to know everything!"
"Everything?"
"Everything!"
Stampy let out a long sigh, took off his top hat and started to explain everything, "Where do I even being? Well... I guess I'll start from the very beginning then. After you were arrested none of us knew, except for Sparklez who saw it. But the girls and I weren't in the city when that happened and it took awhile for him to get to us. When we heard the news we knew we had to leave, so we did. We packed up all we could into a wagon and left, and there's only one place we could go. North."
He stopped for a moment, fiddling with his hat but went on. "Canada was still loyal, it was the only safe place to go. Sure the journey was treacherous and full of dangers but we made it. To keep ourselves from getting caught going illegally across the border we made our own little homestead in Quebec. Well we didn't make it ourselves, we sort of bought the land and mansion that was on said land... But everything else we built! It's like a little community of runaway Loyalists from the States!"
Dan was intrigued, so much so that he didn't say anything. He just let Stampy carry on. "We have our own trading system set up as well! The land is near a river so we managed to fix up an abandoned ship and use it for trading. We only started using it just recently though, a year or so tops. It took awhile to fix it, after all we aren't shipwrights! But that ship is Sparklez pride and joy, he treats it like he would treat his own child. If he had a child at least. That's about it, you're all caught up with your friends endeavors!"
"No I'm not. What about Lizzie and Stacy?" Dan asked.
"Oh right... I guess I forgot. Well you always knew that Stacy and I were close you could say."
"Close? I'm sure you were courting her Stampy-"
"Anyways! We... well. I guess there's no point in hiding it from you, I might as well make things a little easier for you before we get there."
"Spit it out man before I go mad with curiosity!"
"Take it slow Daniel! This is some big news I'm about to tell you, I'm telling you what happened to your friends in nine years! It isn't easy you know. Back on point, three years after you were sent away, Stacy and I got married."
Dan gasped, "You two got... And I wasn't... But there was a... Dang it! I wanted to be the best man!"
"To be honest I didn't have a best man, it wouldn't be fare really. You're my best friend! How could I find someone to replace my best man? It was either you or no one, and I chose no one."
"Did anyone see it then? Witnesses? I'm not sure how the whole marriage thing works..."
"Well we had it in the church, there was a priest, Lizzie was there, Sparklez, and a few other people living in there at the time. So yes there were witnesses."
"There's a church? You guys must've done a lot, built a lot, worked a lot... If you don't mind me asking how was the-"
But like every other time Dan was cut off. "Don't finish that sentence, I know what you're thinking. All we wanted was the mansion to ourselves for a day or two. At the time Lizzie and Sparklez still lived with us so they respected our wishes and spent the next two nights in a friend's home. And uh... keep this between us alright? The night after the wedding... golly, Stacy was like a rabbit in heat!... and later on I learned that I wasn't too far off."
"One weird, two gross, and three you don't mean... that do you?" Dan asked. Stampy only nodded and Dan said, "Congrats? I guess? I'm not really sure what you mean, sorry I've been isolated for so long I forgot what that is."
"Dan how do you not understand? I got Stacy pregnant, and I didn't even know until three months after! She was so insecure about it... I guess she was ashamed? I should've known beforehand, I should've knew something was wrong because she was acting strange! Good golly Dan, I was such a bad husband back then."
"You messed up, take the responsibility for your actions! Like when I was arrested, because to be honest I stole an apple. I think they arrested me for stealing an apple, I took the punishment but prison is a bit much. Enough about me nothing happened in my life for a decade, it doesn't matter. But I'm guessing from the fact that Stacy was pregnant and you said that you were 'such a bad husband' what happened to the child?"
"What happened to the child? What? Why would you ask that? Do you think we abandoned it? Of course we kept our own child! What has prison done to you?"
"I didn't mean... Whatever, just continue."
"Rude. But Dan, I'm warning you. If you ever get someone pregnant, don't watch the birth! It's gross and watching it is disgusting, but worst of all she won't stop screaming! Stacy is a strong woman but darn she can scream in agony. Before the child was even born Lizzie kicked me out! Apparently I was about to faint... It was really warm in there. But between you and me... When I went back in there after all the birthing and stuff, I saw that baby and I cried. Tears of joy or tears of regret, I'm still not sure. Point is that I'll never live that down, Stacy won't let me."
"You cried? What a non manly thing to do Stampy. Your setting a great example for your children!" Dan said sarcastically.
"Do you want to know what happens or not? We thought it was a girl but god had other plans and gave us a son instead. Not that we cared, a son or daughter it didn't matter. All I was grateful for was that Stacy lived and so did our son. And through many... many hours of arguing we named him Samuel. Samuel Johnathan Garrett."
"Who chooses Johnathan for a middle name?"
"Well I don't see you married or having to name a child which you've been expecting for nine months. Besides it sounded right."
"Whatever floats your boat. Now as much as I love your family what about Lizzie? What's she been doing over the past nine years?"
Stampy rubbed the back of his neck. "Well. At first she said that she would wait for you, and she did. It's not like she didn't continue to live though. She helped build and would find runaways and bring them here. By the time Samuel was three, Lizzie stopped waiting. She assumed you would never come back, I didn't believe it but she did. And she did see other men, almost got engaged to a British man named Joel. But I guess somewhere in her mind she knew that you would come back, one way or another. We all did. Heh, once you get there you probably think that Lizzie will run into your arms or something right? Well I doubt it, she'll probably be mad at you for a day, then she'll get over it. That's how she treated me when Stacy got pregnant. But with you it was always different, you two were like lovers and rivals."
"No one says we can't be that way again."
"True, true. We were completely different people than the people we are now. For instance, I'm a father now! Stacy is a mom, Sparklez is a captain, and Lizzie is more hopeful than she was years ago. And you... well besides prison I don't see a difference. Maybe attitude but that's all, same old Dan that we know and love. And at this point, we need something to remind us of the past." Stampy paused and looked at the stars. "We should get some sleep, we have a long week ahead of us."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Throughout the next week (and then some) Dan and Stampy made it to Canada. Stopping at Concord to pick up some supplies. Concord wasn't a city like New York, Philadelphia, or Boston, it was a frontier town which no huge military was.

Although their time in Concord (and other frontier towns) they were at least getting to Canada. From New York to Toronto it was about a two week walk, but on horseback it was a week trip at best. From New York to Quebec City was a week on horseback. That's just an estimate to show how long the trip was going to be, and the homestead wasn't even near Quebec City. But they kept pushing forward to Canada. Most of the way was simply not running into troops on dirt paths, for most roads were already done and showed you where the town's and cities were. For them it was a whole different story...

Not even realizing it the two friends (and horse) crossed into Canada, completely unaware that they did so. But they were one step closer to home. Not all the days were sunny and warm, for about three days they traveled in pouring rain! Once they were stuck with intense winds that made it cold. This is hard to believe but Canada in the summer (like the one this story takes place) is warm, not Brazil or Cuba warm but warm enough to say its warm. None the less, the weather was still on and off. But finally after twelve days of travel they made it to the homestead. Or at least... the entrance of it...

The homestead was a lot bigger than Dan thought, it was almost hidden between giant hills covered in trees. But the path that broke through the hills showed the flat land on the other side. And behind those flat lands was a giant river, or at least a cove that went into a river. Traveling further on the path you can see homes with children playing outsider. And people, plenty of people working. Farmers, blacksmiths, and a priest just like Stampy said, a lot of them waved as they troted by. There was even a tavern which was a big hang out spot for the miners, from what Dan was told.

There was so much life and diversity in the homestead. Blacks, British, Americans, French, and some other different cultured people seemed to have been living here. They went over a little bridge built over a stream and on a ting hill you could see the church. If you looked right on yet another hill (or possibly a cliff) you could see a giant mansion. Going up the path you could see the mansion in all it's glory. Continuing to go straight the horse suddenly stopped and the two friends got off. The majestic stallion troted over to the side of the mansion were it's stable was. Oddly it was open and full of hay inside, so it wasted no time to start feeding on it.

"That's uh... quite the horse you have there Stampy." Said Dan.

"Yeah he's a real show off... now come on those clothes are probably no good, you shouldn't even be wearing them. I'll see if I can pay the clothing maker around here could make a jacket for you. If not that then at least a wool shirt." Stampy replied.

The two walked up the stone stairs and Stampy turned the door knob, not even a lock on it. He opened the door and the two walked in making sure they closed it behind them. Instead of being greated by a person they were greated by this...

A little boy peeked his head out of one of the rooms and instantly ran over to give Stampy a hug, or more of hugging his leg. "Papa!" The boy shouted. He was a small little fellow, maybe around six. He had short curly hair and light green eyes, no doubt from the boys bubbly personality you can tell who's child it was.

Stampy had a bright smile of his face. "Hello little Sam! Did you miss me?"

"Well momma does. But I knew you'd come home, you always do!" Samuel had the same bright smile as his father but it faded away when he noticed Dan standing next to him. "Who's he papa?"

"Oh this? This is my friend Dan, he's one of us!"

"Really? Because he smells like rotten potatoes."

Yep. Definitely Stacys blood, Dan thought. "Hey I don't smell that bad!" Dan argued.

"Whatever you say mister," Samuel looked at his father where his bright smile returned, "momma is with aunt Lizzie right now in the super secret place."

Dan looked at Stampy with a confused look. "Super secret place?"

"Don't worry about it Dan. Now Sam why don't you go get your mother and I'll make sure Dan doesn't smell like rotten potatoes anymore. How about that?" Stampy suggested.

Sam let go of his fathers leg. "Okay papa!" And he quickly ran into another room while Dan was dragged up the flight of stairs at the entrance of the house.

Quickly the two entered a room and Dan was hit in the face with a bundle of clothes. "It might not completely take away the smell but it's something." Stampy left the room and came back later with his friend in new clothes. Dan wasn't wearing anything too fancy but it seemed better than what he was wearing. He'll take the royal blue shirt and thin pants over ripped clothing he hasn't changed in years any day.

Walking back down the stairs Little Sam was standing there with a woman holding his hand. You would expect a woman of that time to wear a long dress but instead she wore men's clothing. Dan already knew who the woman was, it was Stacy.

Not letting go of her son's hand, she looked at the two men and smiled. "Well shoot Dan, I didn't think you were actually alive!"

Dan rolled his eyes. "Well darn Stacy, I didn't think you would actually have a kid!"

Stampy trying to play peace maker intervened, "Alrighty you two don't start going at each other's throats now. Sparkles and Lizzie don't even know Dan's alive yet!"

"Speaking of Lizzie where is she?" Dan asked.

"She's outside watching the cove, Sparkles came back a few hours ago from his trading mission in South Carolina." Stacy answered.

Sam let go of his mother's hand and grabbed Dans sleeve and rushed out the back door, Dan being dragged behind. Leaving Stacy and Stampy by themselves.

Stacy turned to her husband and gave him a concerned look. "You know I don't like it when you go to New York, Stampy."

"Well this time I actually brought back one of our friends! Aren't you glad that Dan is alive?"

"I am, but every time you go over that border into the states I always think something bad is going to happen."

"But you're fine with Sparkles going wherever he wants."

"Stampy that's different. Sparkles isn't my husband, you are. What if something bad happens to you? How am I going to explain it to Samuel? And I think you worked our horse half to death."

Stampy sighed and looked into Stacy's eyes. "I promise nothing bad is going to happen to me. I always came home and I will always come home, nothing bad happened before right? I think you worry too much."

Stacy rolled her eyes and grabbed Stampy's hand, without saying a word Stampy knew what she meant. Still without saying a word she dragged Stampy upstairs for some 'business'. Now you know where Sam gets his forcefulness from.

Outside in the back of the mansion Sam let go of Dan sleeve to go chase one of the dogs that lived in the area. Dan forgot about Sam (who was now out of sight) and saw two people looking down at the cove. A man wearing dark blue sailing clothing, and a woman with a long pink dress that matched her hair.

The man spoke, "I still can't believe slavery is still a thing in South Carolina. Those poor people, I even saw a man get whipped. I've seen cruel captains but that was unforgivable."

To which the woman responded, "That's how things are. We're the lucky ones, being born to white families, but even now it's a curse. Now I can't even live in a city without being called out. At least you don't have a heavy British accent Jordan."

Jordan? British accent? Well that could only mean- Dan's thoughts were interrupted when the man started talking again.

"Hey it's Sparklez! Captain Sparklez! With a z not an s! We've been friends for years Beth, you should know my nickname by now!"

"Okay, you win. Just don't call me Beth, it's Lizzie. How come Stacy gets to call Stampy, Joseph. But you won't let anyone call you by your real name?"

"Well they're married, I bet if Dan was here you would still call him Dan and not Daniel."

"Don't bring Dan into this Sparkles! But yeah you have a point. I guess I've been a little spaced out recently you know? Almost a decade and Dan's gone? He's probably dead now that I think about it."

Welp that's definitely Lizzie and Sparkles. Do they really think I'm dead? Well that's a stupid question isn't it? Well I guess I'll show them the impossible! Dan clearing his throat made Sparkles and Lizzie turn towards him. Dan smiled and said, "Well that's a little rude isn't it? Assuming I'm dead when I'm not, have you learned nothing?" At the end he ended up joking but that didn't change what was going on in his friends heads.

Just as Dan finished his sentence he almost fell over when Lizzie ran over to him for a hug, tears of joy running down her cheeks. And Sparkles ended up making it a group hug, his new sailor strength making it more like a hug sandwich.

few more years have passed and many things have changed once again. The homestead only continued to grow little by little every year, and more and more people began to move in.

At this point Samuel was around fourteen, already helping around the homestead. He couldn't do much but he was able to watch other children and feed the horses. Though he wish he could do men jobs like helping Dan in the mine, or sailing with Sparkles.

Speaking of Dan, (if you didn't already catch on) he and Lizzie started dating again after they were forced apart all those years ago. And a year after their reunion, they got married in that little church on the hill. It was sort of a big event, after all the cove almost had a hundred people living in it. But it was still a joyous day. Most of the older women (like Stacy) felt bad for a young woman like Lizzie. Because usually that means she's going to have about ten children, though half of them probably won't survive. That's why so many married couples had more than two children, to make sure some of them stay alive.

Though this wouldn't be the case, over the next few years Dan and Lizzie had three kids. A daughter named Angelica, and twin sons named David and Danny. All luckily living to become adults.

Sparkles on the other hand was still single and would be for the rest of his life. Many sailors say they're married to the sea, but everyone says Sparkles is married to the floor. He always ends up falling for it, after all he was somewhat of a klutz.

Finally Stacy and Stampy, they lived a mostly happy life together. There were bumps in the road but that happened in every marriage. Stacy would often get paranoid when Stampy would leave for New York City or Philadelphia. And Stampy would sometimes (although extremely rare) would get angry that Stacy couldn't give birth to another child, but those arguments where all because of his catnip problem. Seriously, who keeps giving the man catnip?

Overall after all those years these five friends managed to find each other again. Love would blossom and die, curiosity and faithfulness would be tested, but most of all they found a place where they could call home. And with that, Dan was no longer a runaway.

That took a lot longer than expected, and wow my ideas turned into a curve ball. If you didn't like this request relax I still have two more to get done. And GPGames explain what you want your request to be about, because that would help a lot and make things a little bit quicker.

So I hope you enjoyed. And if you haven't noticed I've given myself a new title, which my girlfriend made art of.
I MudkipBrony am the StacyCat Queen!!!

Do you not see the crown!? Look at it!
Also am I a man or a woman? You can call me a man or a woman I don't care.
But seriously I want to see Little Sam in real life. I liked writing about him, he was so cute to write! How could you not imagine Samuel when you think of StacyCat? I'm too obsessed with this ship, that's why I'm the queen!

Will Philia and the Demigods be done soon? No idea! So until next time, I'm the StacyCat Queen and no one will challenge my authority!
