Jeff Application

I know what you're thinking. "The hell is this? What the frick man!?"

To that I say, calm down. I'll explain. So where I live (the USA) we have to apply for which High School (the place where all the teens go) we want to go to, since my town has seven of them and each focus on a different thing. The one I want to go to is called Jefferson (or Jeff for short), its an arts academy and for creative writing I had to create a portfolio concisting of two poems, a short story of fiction, a Non-fiction piece, and a reflection piece. I'll be showing you one of my poems and the fiction story. Though the names will be changed since its MCSM. I just want to make y'all proud! (I also did a band audition as a backup, not like you care)

Poem: Crow

There was a girl who wandered down the street,

Her name is not important, her age is mysterious as well.

But our story begins with her friends who yelled,

"Stacy! Stacy! Didn't you hear?" They would scream and shout

Well there goes her name, the secret is out.

The girl named Stacy just shrugged and sighed, her friends weren't the best, but they still tried.

"There's a talking crow flying about!" The other friend continued to shout.

But Stacy just tuned them out and nodded when she felt right.

She didn't want to hurt her friends, but their shouting isn't much of a delight.

Eventually they left, and Stacy continued on her way, until she heard a high-pitched voice,

"Child, child up here!"

The girl looked up and saw a crow in a tree. "I've heard about you. The crow who talks? I still have a hard time believing that." The girl huffed.

The crow cawed as if it was laughing, laughing at the girl.

"Child, your eyes and ears do not deceive. For it is I, Crow, who should be believed."

The girl turned to walk away but the bird flew onto her head.

"Child. Do you not believe that I, Crow, am the greatest bird?"

"You talk, yes. But the greatest? No!"

Crow cawed and snipped at the girls' ear, making her yelp in surprise and a small dose of pain.

"You win, you win! You're the best stupid bird alright?"

Crow cawed once more, it was his little laugh of mockery.

"Quit mocking me, you dumb bird!" Stacy cried out, and yet Crow continued to laugh and squawk.

"Child," squawked Crow, "I am a being of bad luck and mystery, a being of cunning and my mere presents can strike fear and joy into the hearts of many."

Yet Crow continued to Squawk, "Child, I predict that you will see life differently after this encounter. You should take time to enjoy things in life, you must find the balance."

"What are you talking about, Crow?" The child asked.

But before she could get an answer the great Crow was flying away,

And she picked up the black feather Crow left in her hair.

The feather represents the cunning of the crow. But the child took Crows' advice and learned a lesson that day.

You must stop and enjoy the moments you have with the people around you,

Because they'll fly away just like Crow.

Short Story of Fiction: The Prophecy
Which is in no way related to Werewolf. I'm serious.

Beware the Stalker of Dreams.

Find the girl who fights and finds, do so and unlock the skies.

Find the boy who says he's dumb and he will teach you how to have fun.Search for the feathered dragon of star white, find him and you'll be granted wings of flight.Search for the fairy who's not what she seems, for she can tell your destiny. Finally, find the human child of blond, he will teach you how life goes on.Together the five pillars will bid the war gone.

Beware the Werewolf of Gold, for the book that he holds controls the world.

A war is coming to shake the Earth, Werewolves and Dragons against the land.He controls the Dragon Tribes like a puppet,And only the pillars can cut the string.

He will take what you hold dear, along with your world.

Beware the Werewolf of Gold, because he is the Stalker of our Dreams. He has come for a war, and to see the world burn.

Ever since I was a young child this prophecy was shoved in my face. All my friends assume that since I am the only blond boy around for miles around that I'm part of 'The Prophecy'. Sometimes I wonder if they know that there's probably hundreds of other towns with blond boys like me. I'm not special I'm just rare. As my sister Jesse always says, "All kids are mistakes, even if they're planned." Which I still don't know what that means since I'm fourteen and she's almost nineteen, but I bet it proves my point!

Either way if I was the boy from the prophecy then the ancient wizards and dragons who made it are sadly mistaken. I don't want to leave my village, it's nice and quiet. We aren't forced to hide away when dragon migration comes around, while fairies and wizards (or witches if they're girls) tend to hide away all year long. Werewolves on the other hand is a common thing, whenever you see a wolf everyone assumes it's a werewolf.

I don't know about you but in my world, werewolves can change into a wolf whenever they please, but they still go crazy on full moons. It's why every family has a gun, or some way to protect themselves. There was this wander who (like his title) wandered into town once, and he had a sword made of silver. Do you know what that could do to a werewolf! He left shortly after, saying something about finding 'the traitor' but I'm sure he's just a little messed up in the head.

Though one day everything changed, I sensed my friend Petra calling me. Yes, sensed I know what I said, when you know a girl like Petra you can tell when she needs you for something. But before I could get to her house she was running towards me. Her fiery red hair was in a almost completely covered by her bandanna and you could barely tell what ethnicity she was because of all the mud, bruises, and dried up blood (or maybe that was just a stain) on her skin and clothing. Yep, that was Petra. Energetic, crazy, and extremely athletic. She was yelling, "LUKAS!" But she held out the u and a and it sounded more like 'LUUUUUUKAAAAAAS'.

"What is it now Petra? You need me to help capture a cat again?" I asked, because that's what we did most of the time.

"No time just follow me!" She said.

"But where are we even going?"

"You'll see!"

Before I could say she's being a dunderhead she grabbed my arm (note I said arm and not hand) and she dragged me across our village. Now Petra has been my friend since we were five, classic childhood friends. She was more adventurous than I was, which to everyone else made them think there was something wrong with us. But we where just two kids who happened to like chasing cats and having adventures. My other friends always say that I'm the brains and Petra is the bronze, which makes sense since she's such a dunderhead.

As we raced through our village I got a quick glimpse into everyone's life. The shepherds where herding their sheep, the baker was hitting the poor kids with the broom for stealing her pie, and the blacksmith waved at us with his four fingered hand (he lost one while trying to repair that wanderers sword).

We continued to run into the woods, or she did. I got tired and she had to carry me on her back. Nonetheless she told me about this cave in the woods, which is odd because there are no mountains or even hills around here. "Trust me Lukas, it's pretty cool. It's underground, and scary, and I found something you might like!" She assured me.

"Keep telling yourself that you dunderhead." I joked.

"Keep telling me that your highness." She joked back.

"Petra! I told you not to call me that!" I complained. It's true, I don't like being called that, I hate it when people assume that I'm royalty just because of my hair. Then again Petra hates it when the blacksmith or a guard (or anyone really) calls her girly, only she punches them, and I just complain.

Petra ran for another few minuets then stopped to catch her breath in front of this ginormous hole, and she put me down. "We're... here..." She said in between breaths.

"It's a hole Petra." I pointed out. Indeed, it was a big hole.

But Petra was convinced that it was a cave. "No, it's a cave! Come on Lukas, you'll love it!"

"Sure dunderhead. Can you take me home? I like hanging out with you, really, we're best friends and all that. But I promised my other friends that I would play with them so-"

"Oh! I get it," Petra interrupted, "pretty boy is too busy for adventure anymore. It's fine, I understand now... your highness!" She specifically emphasized the words 'your highness' and I absolutely hated that.

"Petra. I told you to stop calling me that!" I growled.

But instead she just chuckled to herself. "Fine, go watch your friends play sports. My liege."

That's it, I snapped. For once I was doing something, as Petra would put it. And so, I did the only thing I could do... what could I do? She was taller than me and stronger too, she could push me down the hole in an... That's it! I thought. So, when Petra was laughing to herself I used all my might and pushed her into the hole.

For a moment, a brief and terrifying moment, I thought I killed her. But to my relief I heard a splash, though faint and seemingly in the distance. So, I ran in the direction we first came. I turned around for one moment and I saw something I thought I'd never see. A feathered dragon of star white, with Petra grabbing onto some of his (gosh I hope it's a he) feathers.

I was both amazed and terrified of the creature. For one I didn't know dragons had feathers. Second, he looked young, from what I've read most dragons are the size of full grown trees, this one looked more like a teenager than an adult (mostly because he was smaller, like barley the size of a two-floor house). Still I turned and ran, but I heard it coming up behind me because it was stomping like a mad man.

Then I felt that I was running and running but not getting anywhere, when I opened my eyes I realized that I've gone air born. The dragon had me in his front talons and he was flying! I didn't see Petra, but I knew she was there because her laugh almost cut through the wind (Key word: almost). When I looked down I felt like I was going to hurl, then I felt like I was the dragon itself. Flying high above everything the world, and everything else looked like ants. Then I realized that I was having fun! But what I didn't realize was that my journey has just begun.

And that's all I'm going to show you. So yeah... see you in the next chapter.
