Darkness of Humans
So I'm doing this for a challenge on an the Minecraft Storymode Amino and the challenge is I'm given a character and I have to recreate a scene in a book guy with that character. I got Aiden and Harper (I asked for a second character) and I'm using my favorite book series. Wings of Fire: Darkness of Dragons (aka Book 10).
Aiden (meant to be Darkstalker) is an all-powerful being called an 'animus' and he can also see into possible futures, and in the part in the book he sees his mother, Harper (Foeslayer), for the first time in about two thousand years. The two are brought together again thanks to Jesse (Qibli, who's the main character of the book), Lukas (Moonwatcher, who can also see the future), and Petra (Kinkajou). Radar (Turtle), Cassie (Clearsight aka: Darkstalkers girlfriend who betrayed him), and Ivor (Winter) are mentioned but not present. Everything else... well... you'll just have to wait and see.
~~~
Aiden reluctantly followed his foes into a cave. His war failed, his magic failed, HE failed. Yet as he walked into the cave he saw something he never thought he'd live to see again. He turned to Lukas, still hurt because he thought the blond man was his friend. "Radar did this didn't he? She isn't real, like what I did with Cassie."
But Lukas shook his head. "She's as real as real can get."
"I thought they... killed her." Aiden mumbled, his voice was breaking.
"They used Animus magic to trap her in ice, but they also put a spell on her so that she wouldn't die from anything natural why trapped away. I guess you could say, 'temporary immortality'. Ivor, freed her while he was in the Kingdom of Ice." Lukas explained.
Though Aiden didn't bother listening to anything past 'Temporary Immortality', he was already giving his mother a hug for the first time in so many years.
"So she was around all this time, and she didn't want to see her son? We could've have dodged this whole thing! The wither sickness with the people in the Kingdom of Ice, the war, everything. And she did nothing!" Petra whispered.
"I told her what Aiden did to his father, she was afraid that she would come to the same fate. Plus, she loved both the men in her life. Her husband, and Aiden. She needs time to process that, Petra." Lukas whispered back.
"Mother," Aiden started, "remember that soul reader I made as a child?"
"How could I forget? You chased around your father trying to read his soul." Harper said sadly. Though there was a slight smile on her face, that must've been quite a day.
Aiden broke the hug and gripped his mothers arms, almost as if he was about to shake her. "It says I'm evil. I'm not evil, right mother? It showed that I was completely evil, it was even worse than father was."
"I... I can't give you an answer. Although you where asleep for two hundred years, I don't like your past decisions."
"Don't worry mother, I'll fix it! First I'll make all the people from that Ice Kingdom pay for trapping you in ice. Then I'll-"
But Harper moved her sons hands off her arms, and that made him stop short. She sighed and looked into her sons green eyes. "I was never a vengeful person, you get that from your father. But I always tried to make things right, to fix my mistakes. The people from the Ice Kingdom have no reason to hate me anymore, and yet you give them a reason to hate you. I just wish I could go back in time and give you a better life."
"Maybe you can. We can rule the world without having to make anymore mistakes. I wouldn't feel so lonely anymore. I wouldn't have to try and re-create Cassie Rose, I finally accepted her passing." Aiden made a fist and hit his forehead. "Why can't I see that future!"
Harper's sad smile went away. "Because I would never say yes to that."
"Hold on a second," Lukas cut in, "I see another future. Do you see it Aiden?"
"You mean the one where Jesse becomes an Animus? I liked that one, but I still can't believe he turned down my offer! The others... they aren't perfect. The Kingdom of Ice is an empty waste land with no life, the people of the seas wont stop attacking my tribe no matter how much of them we kill. Then the forest folk are like ninjas. Thanks to those stupid earrings Radar made it'll be harder to conqueror the world now. I haven't even done anything and I'm already tired!"
Jesse had a hateful look on his face and he stared at Aiden, he must've forgot that he was in the room. Aiden sat down on the cold cave floor in defeat, squashing a bug that was crawling past. "What's the point anymore? Cassie's dead, I'll never have children or fall in love again. Lukas, I thought you were my friend. Now you and mother will be yelling at me for the rest of my life!"
"You don't see this future? I guess I have to explain it to you. I see a little boy, he looks a lot like you actually! Though his hair is short, REALLY short, a buzz cut. He's running around with his friends in the forest village, must be a forest child. He likes to collect berries and make pies, his favorite berry is a strawberry. When he's grown up he marries the village huntress and they have two quirky children who love to capture mice and steal strawberries. They're by his side when he dies peacefully in his sleep."
Aiden thought for a moment then shook his head. "I don't know anyone who matches that description. Strawberries? I never had one, they look terrible. Too many seeds."
Lukas smirked and chuckled a little bit, a man who doesn't give anyone out of his own tribe a chance has never eaten a strawberry. Though Harper pulled a strawberry out of her pocket and handed it to her son on the ground. "I took some with me on my way here, you never know when you're feeling peckish."
Aiden held the small fruit in his hands and twisted around the stem. Then he stopped and had a realization. "You don't think that that man is me do you?"
"A you without any Animus powers." Lukas corrected.
"Why would I want to give up my powers? I'm the most powerful man the world has ever seen! Everyone wants to be me!" Aiden boasted.
"I don't." said Jesse.
"Me neither," Petra added. "stuck up, grouchy, never takes a hint, and evil. No thanks."
Aiden got up to go hit her but Harper stopped him with a hand on his shoulder. "Aiden, you can be freed from this curse. You could be loved again. But only you can make that decision, think about it. You could do more good for the world without the powers."
"I can do more good WITH my powers! You must be joking mother, I know how much you joke around. What am I supposed to do without my powers? Make pie? I could give the world a better future!"
"The only future you can change is your own, Aiden. You might think you see a glorious future but all I see is darkness. You have to give up your powers and your memories, start anew." Lukas pointed out.
"If I were him, I'd choose the pie." Petra whispered to Jesse. Though in response he nudged her stomach.
Aiden held the strawberry in his hand for a moment then removed his mothers hand off his shoulder, now he's standing straight up as if he was a soldier. "No, I can't do it. I won't!"
"Are you sure? That's that's the only future I see for you Aiden. I'm positive that you chose this-"
"I said I wont!" Aiden interrupted. "I will not give up my powers or my memories! Cassie... she'd be more gone than she already is. And what about poor Gill of the sea people? Oh wait, he's gone too! No, I'll be king. King of the world, and none of you small minded monkeys can stop me!"
"Aiden there's still good in you, you just have to follow it." Jesse said.
"No! I especially wont listen to you! Just because you return my mother to me will make me give up my powers? Well you're wrong!" Aiden ripped the stem and leaves off of the strawberry in his hand. "Did you have Radar enchant this? After you broke into my castle and kidnapped him? I was so nice and kind to all of you! Yet you repay me like garbage. Whatever, nobody's Animus magic can work on me. I've become smarter since I was young, nothing you ordinary creatures can do will stop me!"
"Actually," said Petra, "there is one persons magic that works on you."
"No there isn't. Stop lying." Aiden shot at her.
"Yes there is." Petra snapped back.
"Then who? Who has magic more powerful that they can defeat me?"
Petra snickered. "Your own."
She took a piece of light grey paper out from her pocket and unfolded it. It was the last piece of Aidens scroll of darkness! And as Petra unfolded it, it took everyone a moment to read her sloppy handwriting (it was only worse since all they had was the sun and a few torches to see); she wanted to be the first forest person to be able to read and write in over a hundred years. Petra used Aidens own magic against him!
Aiden fell to his knees and started to groan. He looked up at his mother with hurtful eyes. "You helped her... you betrayed me, just like Cassie and Gill!"
"Of course, what was I supposed to do? Send you to your room? Extra chores for a week? Reorder my bookshelf? You're not a child anymore. It was either this or I never see you again, we'll both be happier this way." Harper explained. She was now kneeling next to him with a hand rubbing his back like she did when he was a child.
Aiden seemingly ageing backwards, and was now (if he was standing up) shorter than his mother. "But my powers... I can't keep any of it? The powers, the mind reading, the future seeing?"
"I'm sorry Aiden, Petra and I knew you wouldn't choose this." Harper apologized.
"If he can read minds then why didn't he read yours if you knew about the plan?" Lukas asked.
"You don't raise a son with mind reading powers without learning a few tricks." Harper admitted.
Jesse and Lukas watched in both horror and amusement (though for Petra is was mostly amusement) as Aiden shrunk from a grown man, to a teenager, to a ten year old, and now he was a mere four year old. Though he didn't look the same exactly. For one he had a bunch of freckles on his face and a bunch of beauty marks on his arms. His ears where pointed slightly and there where probably more missing details that you could identify with a magnifying glass.
"What in the world?" Jesse mumbled.
"Oh yeah, I made him half forest folk. Turned out better than I expected!" Petra admitted.
"I'll work it into my backstory when I join the rest of the Forest Folk." Harper said.
"You're actually joining the Forest Tribe?" Lukas asked.
Harper nodded. "I heard many great things about the new chief, besides the City of Night brings back too many memories."
"Hungry!" The little Aiden chirped. He was a small fellow now, his head popping out of the shirt that use to fit him. Well now he could wear the shirt as a whole outfit, that's how big it was on him.
"What are you going to name him? Or is his name just going to be Aiden and hope that no one notices?" Jesse asked.
"Name him something like... spot." Petra suggested.
"That a name for a pet Petra." Lukas groaned.
"Well that's what he's been, a pet!" Petra joked, but got a response of a few glares and an elbow to the chest.
"Why not something like... Andre?" said Lukas.
"I like the suggestion but I think his name will be... Alan." Harper said.
"Alan? Really? Why not something like... Andrew or Tarzan if we're trying to give him a manly name? Why not skull crusher?" Petra asked.
"His name is Alan." Harper confirmed.
Though the little Aiden (or Alan as he's now called) felt ignored and went to his mothers ear and shouted "HUNGRY!"
Harper almost pushed the boy away but remembered that he was her son, so she caught him and put him back on the floor. Alan tried to climb back onto his mother to shout a third time but fell thanks to the shirt that was covering his body.
Harper chuckled for a moment. "Alright here, my beloved little disaster." From her pocked she pulled out about four strawberries and handed them to Alan, who swooped them out of her hand and gobbled them up. Strawberry juice and seeds splattered around his mouth and shirt.
"I have a name for you Harper, if you're interested."
She nodded. "Let's hear it."
"Hope. Or something like that."
"Hope, huh." Harper closed her eyes for a moment then smiled. "I like that."
~~~
And so Harper and Aiden lived out the rest of their lives as Hope and Alan. And just like Lukas' vision everything happened as planned. Every so often Lukas, Jesse, and even Petra would show up for a visit. It was strange (for Petra and Jesse at least) to see Alan not be evil like Aiden. "It's so weird for the kid to not attack anything." as Petra would say.
Yet the world wouldn't know what truly happened to Aiden, though there was speculation. But no one would ever know that it was Petra who saved them, and Jesse got all the credit he didn't ask for.
And everything played out as planned for little Alen. And for once, Hope felt okay to be around her son again. But she would love him like any mother would, no matter what.
