Rara (Xara x Romeo): What We Used to Be

Okay so before we begin, there's some things I need to explain. 'Rara' or 'Ra-ra' is what I decided to call Xara and Romeo because I didn't see any ship names for these two anD I FREAKING SHIP THEM SO MUCH ARGHHHHHH

I. Ship. It. GAH

Okay sorry if you don't ship it just don't read this oneshot.

Anyway this was based off my theory that the Warden was actually Fred (the third Admin) in disguise, and here is a backstory I sorta created for them.

(It's probably not true but eh just a theory)

Saying this again if you didn't get it-

!!!THIS IS BASED ON A THEORY!!!

Okie continue

"Checkmate." Exclaimed Xara, a hint of mischief in her eyes as she moved the chess piece. Her hands settled on her legs as she sat. She looked up to see someone looking at her with a warm smile. She immediately felt heat rush to her cheeks.

"Romeo, it's your turn." She said briskly, a grin playing at the edge of her lips. Romeo's smile widened, his dark eyes staring into hers.

"I know."

Her cheeks got even redder as she turned away, brushing a dark purple strand of hair out of her face.

"Make your move or I'm going to leave you here." Xara threatened playfully. Romeo thought for a moment, a hand on his chin. She looked down at the board and observed the pieces, and when she looked up she was met with a surprise.

Romeo's lips met hers, soft and gentle at contact. Shock was the first thing that hit her, and before she could react, he pulled away, the same smile on his face.

"Your turn," he replied, chuckling at her reaction. "Xara."

She brushed her fingers across her lips, where Romeo had kissed her. Still in shock, she looked at him, and then slapped him in the face.

***************************

Romeo moved his hand, bringing a piece of land along with it. The area was torn away from the ground, leaving a ginormous hole. He moved his hand back, and the piece of land fit back into place. He stared in amazement.

"Can you believe this?" He asked, almost in a whisper. "All this power..."

A hand took his as he looked to the right. Xara gave him a small smile. Her hair was down, part of it wavy and the other part of it straight. He always thought she was beautiful.

"You know Romeo, there isn't much to power if you've got no one to share it with." She said softly, watching the world from his view.

"That's why I have you, don't I?" He pulled her hand up, and this time, the ground they were standing on shook, and began moving-upwards? She gasped lightly and laughed as they traveled higher up. Romeo began moving his hands to set the scene, trees, water, everything.

"This is-this is amazing." Xara exclaimed, breath-taken. Her eyes widened in awe as she watched him create the world.

"I'll build the world for you Xara, and when this is over, I'll build it for you again."

***************************

"Fredrick, was it?" Xara asked, arms folded across her chest and stared at the man in front of her.

"Yes, that'll be me. Although my friends call me Fred." he said cheerfully, sticking his hand out to shake hers. She didn't move, and after a few awkward moments of waiting he put his hand down.

"So," Romeo started hesitantly. "You're an Admin too."

"Straight to the point I see, but yes, to answer your question, I am."

Xara and Romeo gave each other knowing looks.

"Do you know anything about being an Admin?" She asked him curiously. He put his hands together and bit his lip thoughtfully.

"Not much, I have to admit. All I know is that you get certain powers, and that you can live for as long as you please. But that's it."

Fred shrugged and pulled a cake out of his inventory, some sprinkles falling to the floor. He looked at them and showed them the cake.

"Did you want some?"

Romeo and Xara smiled, and then laughed.

"No thanks Fred, enjoy your cake. We have a whole lifetime to."

***************************

"...and then he fell on him again! Notch, it was so awkward, and their friends just ignored it. I believe he did it on purpose, even though he swore he didn't."

Xara couldn't resist the laughter that poured out of her mouth as Fred told another one of his stories. Fred cracked a grin and winked.

"It's good seeing you smile Xara." He said as she rolled her eyes.

"It's only because you make up the most ridiculous stories. I mean, a wool world? A pig hero? Who comes up with that?" She asked, amused. He shook his head and chuckled.

"Some of these aren't just stories, my dear." Fred replied thoughtfully as she waved him off.

"Where is Romeo anyway? He should've been here by now." A bit of worry clouded her eyes as she bit her lip.

"Don't worry Xara, he should be here any-"

A flash of light made the two of them look away as Romeo appeared, a grin on his face as he put his arms out.

"Speak of the devil," Fred said playfully. The three of them engulfed in a group hug. Romeo gave Xara a quick kiss on the cheek.

"Hey Romeo, where were you? Fred's been telling me more of his stories." She asked, as they let go of their hug.

"Ah, just out a bit. What has he been telling you this time?" He flashed a signature grin as Fred rolled his eyes.

"A world made of wool, and a old man who sings about Endermen." Xara replied, stopping the laugh that was trying to escape her mouth. Romeo laughed and patted Fred on the shoulder.

"Where do you come up with this stuff?" He asked him amusingly. Fred just smiled and shook his head.

"As I said before, some of these aren't just stories."

Romeo nodded, and then his face lit up as he grinned widely.

"I almost forgot! I have to show you guys something." He turned and snapped his fingers, and then another flash of bright light appeared.

Someone was kneeling on the ground, looking beaten up, bruised, and bloody. He had light brown hair and armor that was cracked, and he was breathing heavily. He looked up and saw them, his eyes widening. He looked very young, not a child, but not an adult either.

"Romeo, what is this?" Xara asked quietly, shock in her voice. He smiled and gestured to the man, unaware of his friends' uncertain stares.

"Meet my new friend, Jack."

The man Jack looked at them desperately, eyes pleading as he mouthed 'help me.' He looked so hurt, pained, and Xara wanted to reach out to him. But before she could Romeo stepped in front of her.

"What's wrong Xara? You look pale, are you alright?" He asked, sincerely.

She backed away from him, seeing something in his eyes. The change. This is where it begins.

She could see the softness in his eyes replaced with something else-hunger. A fire. A wanting. Fred gave her a worried glance as she turned back to him.

"I just felt something change, that's all."

***************************

"Fred, I'm worried. More than that, I'm-I'm scared. He won't stop, as much as I tell him. It's getting out of control." Xara ranted, pacing back and forth, worry in her mind. Fred put a hand on her shoulder.

"This isn't exactly wrong Xara, he's just doing Admin things." He replied, but still a bit uncertain. "I look up to him, and I know you do too."

She stared at him for a moment, and then shook off his hand in rage.

"Fred, are you even listening to yourself?!" Xara cried angrily. "People are getting hurt because of what he's doing! All this fighting, this pain-he's the one who's provoking this!"

Her friends' gaze turned hard. Their glares turned to stone.

"If this is what he wants, then let him do it." Fred said harshly, making Xara almost flinch.

"You really want to go this way?" She asked firmly, voice almost in a whisper.

Fred took in a breath and held his gaze against hers.

"Goodbye Xara," he said finally, as she tried to hold back the tears that were trying to make their way out of her eyes. She bit her lip hard to prevent herself from saying anything back. To prevent her from saying that she needed him, that friends were supposed to stick together.

He looked as if he were waiting for a response, like her telling him that he shouldn't leave. Instead, there was silence. Fred's eyes traveled away from her, as he snapped his fingers, and disappeared.

************************

"Do it," Romeo commanded, his lips curved into an evil smile. In front of him, Jack was facing someone else, a sword in his hands. Fear made his body tremble and pain made him grit his teeth. The person in front of him was on his knees, bloody and weak from pain. Everything hurt.

"P-please-" Jack stammered, pure desperation in his voice. "Don't make me hurt-don't make me hurt Vos-"

"I said do it." Romeo snarled, pushing him forward and sending pain through his body. Jack groaned and held back a scream as he felt himself being hurt.

He stumbled, but before he could trip he caught himself and stood up. The sword gleamed in his hands as words embedded in his head.

"J-jack?" Vos asked, fear in his voice.

"Vos, I'm-sorry." Jack said, the words forced out of his mouth. He took one step forward, and then another, the look on his friend's face too much for him to bear. He raised the sword above his head, the Admin grinning. And then, closing his eyes shut, he brang down the sword-

FLASH

Something sent Jack flying backwards, shielding Vos from the sword. He landed on the ground with a painful thud, and the sword flew out of his hands.

Xara stood, eyes burning with anger and something else-desperation. She stood in a defensive stance.

"Romeo," she said through gritted teeth. "This needs to stop."

His smile quickly faded and was replaced with rage.

"Xara," he said her name softly. "I'd said I'd build the world for you, but how can I do that when you keep. Knocking. It. Down?!"

"You've changed. Come back, please." Xara pleaded, shaking her head. "Romeo-"

"Don't call me that!" He hissed, making her flinch. He appeared in front oh her with another bright flash and she resisted the urge to stumble back. "You can call me the Admin, just like all the others who've betrayed me."

His bright eyes pierced into hers, all the love gone from his heart. Power and greed had replaced the kindness and warmness that he had.

She forced herself to stay strong, to hold her gaze, to be brave. But before she knew it, tears escaped her eyes and began falling down her cheeks. His expression didn't change, but she could see something flicker in his eyes.

Xara brought a hand up to his cheek, slowly. He didn't move.

"I guess time has changed us all." She said sadly, before she reached behind her and pulled out a blade, stabbing it straight through his chest.

**************************

Romeo walked, his footsteps clattering on the bedrock and echoing throughout the area.

Click, clack, click, clack.

In his arms, he held a near-lifeless body. She was covered in blood, cuts, and bruises. Her hair was messed up and eyes were closed. Her chest rose up and down, revealing that she was alive, but barely on the edge.

He continued to walk to his destination, Xara's body in his arms, an unreadable expression on his face.

The memory was dim, her stabbing him in the chest with a blade, the action doing nothing because of him being an Admin. He could see the pure desperation in her eyes as she did it, breaking down in tears. She didn't want to fight, but she did anyway. Only resulting in her getting even more hurt.

He finally reached his destination, a cell surrounded by lava and made of the strongest material he could muster. He set Xara down in the cell, who was still unconscious, and then got out and locked it.

"Fredrick," Romeo said firmly, and a man rose up from his knees, shaking.

"Y-yes, sir?" He asked weakly, turning to him.

The Admin's eyes went into slits as he gave him a glare.

"Make sure she doesn't escape, Warden." He commanded. "Maybe you'll learn your lesson and not disappoint me this time. I already took away both of your powers, know that next time, I won't be so merciful."

Fred's eyes widened and he nodded, fear almost petrifying him.

The Admin gave him a blank stare and then left, leaving two of his former friends, and the cell surrounded by bedrock.

**************************

"What happened to Jack?" Xara rasped through the bars, her eyes staring at the ceiling, pain covering her like a thick blanket. She sat on the floor and leaned against the wall, hands and nails scratching against the iron floors. Her mind was filled with thoughts, but numbness washed away the curiosity.

The Warden peered through to the cell, something covering his left eye. He remembered the Admin, strengthened by rage, blinding one of his eyes. He'd rather not show it.

"The Admin. He killed Vos." At that, her eyes grew big. "I-I pleaded with him. I sent him back to his home world and gave him new memories. He was a great adventurer, and he had many friends. There's no need to worry about him anymore."

"And you don't just mean Jack, do you?" She asked softly, her heart breaking into a million pieces as she thought of him.

The Warden was silent for a moment, not answering the question. Instead, he asked:

"Why did you do it? You knew it wouldn't kill him, but you did it anyway. Why?"

Xara felt the tears escaping her eyes once again.

"Of course I knew it wouldn't kill him, some part of me just wanted to get payback for the things he did. I never wanted to kill him. But maybe...maybe I should have."

She heard her old friend sigh, and then watched him as he turned back to look away from her.

"There's always a maybe Xara. A split second choice to be made. I just don't understand why we keep making the wrong ones."

"Maybe it's because the wrong choices are actually right."

**************************

"The two people I'd expect the least to betray me." Romeo said bitterly, arms folded across his chest.

"You're not the only one who feels betrayed." Xara retorted back, staring at him through the bars of her cell.

Fred-er, the Warden held a cold glare, eyes hardened like stone, watching as the two fought.

"What did I ever do to you, to make you try to kill me?" He asked harshly, eyes burning with hate. "I loved you Xara, I loved you so much. You were my world. And now..." He shook his head as she gritted her teeth.

"What did you do?!" She asked angrily. "What did you do?! Are you kidding me Romeo?! You've changed, for start. You used to be so kind, and caring. Now you're just a traitorous monster! You've hurt people! Forced them to do whatever that cruel mind of yours wanted! What happened to you?!"

Xara grabbed onto the bars and shook them as she spoke, sending invisible sparks in the air. Romeo had the same expression on his face, but the creases on his face pulled tighter as she called him Romeo.

"You will address me by 'Admin,' Prisoner X." He said firmly as she flinched at the name. "And I only hurt people for a reason, for them to prove themselves as my champion, my friend. Something you wouldn't understand."

She gaped at him.

"Something I wouldn't understand-?!"

Romeo ignored her and looked at the watch on his wrist, before adjusting it to the proper fit.

"I must be off, much more important things to do." He turned around to exit, walking a few feet before hearing someone speak again.

"What are you going to do now?" Xara asked, her voice steady. He turned around and gave her one last look.

"I'm going to forget, whatever we used to be." Romeo replied, and that was the last thing Xara heard from him before he was gone, nothing but dust traveling across the bedrock.

Years later

***********************

"Tried to escape again, I see?" The Warden asked, flipping through his book, posture straight and clothes a professional prison uniform.

The prisoner looked at him and spit in his face. He blinked, and then took a cloth out of his pocket and rubbed it off.

"I see time has made you bitter."

Xara gave him a bitter grin, the kindness gone from her eyes and replaced with loathing.

"And it's made you an even bigger fool."
