Royal and the Common (3/3) (M.JessexLukas)

Lukas's PoV

[ Morning ]

Lukas sighed, looking at himself in the mirror. "Lukas?" his father called, making him close his eyes. "Coming." he murmured to himself, opening the bathroom door and entering the hallway.

In front of him, stood a girl and a woman, both with red hair. But the woman, had eyes of coldness. Was all royalty like that? Lukas wondered. He turned his attention to the girl beside the woman. She looked bored out of her mind, and it was as if she was forced to be here in the castle.

Lukas could somehow relate to that.

The girl and Lukas made eye contact, but this time, it wasn't as strong as the one he had with Jesse... Lukas forced down those feelings, remembering how he had to let him go out into the night.

The girl frowned, looking up at her mother, who was probably the queen of somewhere and frankly, Lukas didn't care. He just wanted to hide out in his room. "Ahem," Lukas's father, the king, cleared his throat. "Your Highnesses, I present to you my son, Lukas Porter."

Lukas sighed. This was going to be a long and tortuous day.

Jesse's PoV

Jesse reeled in a fish, feeling frustrated. His arms were tired from pulling in his catches, and his feet were aching from standing on the dock. "Jess!" he called, looking at his house nearby. "What is it?" she poked her head out the window, waiting.

"I might need more bait." he said, holding up some chunks of raw chicken they always used as bait. Jess scoffed, "Alright. But just remember you're practically throwing in our dinner."

Jesse rolled his eyes, sitting on the wooden boards. He looked down at his reflection, and gently placed a toe in the water. A flash of memory came back to him, making him pull away, shaking with fear. He had to stop thinking about it... the ocean was nothing to be afraid of.

He clenched the floor boards tightly as he placed his feet into the water, trying to overcome his fear.

It was a different memory this time... a memory he couldn't remember.. he was much younger than usual. Everything was broken and falling apart, and someone was carrying him.. "Steven!" he heard a woman's voice call.

There was an explosion, as the woman coughed, stumbling in the darkness.

Jesse could barely see through the smoke, but all he saw was the gloomy dark ocean in front of them. The woman was making her way to a boat... "Do you have everything?" the woman asked, climbing onto the craft.

Jesse couldn't hear anything, but he felt the slight rocking of the boat, which meant they were sailing... but to where? And why? Were they leaving? He looked up to see his mother... Alex. As beautiful as he could remember. And on her head was a crown.

"Jesse!"

Jesse flinched, opening his eyes and nearly falling off the dock and right into the water but Jessica caught his arm. "Were you sleeping on the job?" she demanded, her green eyes fixed on him as he tried to make sense of what he just saw.

"Hey, what's wrong with you? You looked like you've seen a ghost!" she placed a hand on his forehead. Jesse looked at her. "Jess.." he said. "I think I saw something... I had a vision.."

Jess frowned. "Now you're starting to not make any sense. What vision?" she asked skeptically.

Jesse hesitated a little. "I-I don't know. But I heard mom... and she called for dad. And.." he trailed off, trying to make sense, "And there was a crown on her head."

Jess raised an eyebrow. "Only royals have crowns, fool. Are you saying she was once royalty? Please. Royals are snobby brats and she's the most kindest woman and mom." she scoffed but Jesse wasted no time. "Hold this." he said, shoving the fishing rod onto Jess's arms and running back to the cabin.

He quickly entered the house, searching. If what he saw was true... he had to hope. Jesse looked around, but everything was just as he left it. Books tided, nets strung up. And... he walked over to a large wooden box, remembering...

"No touching this box, okay?" Alex said to the two kids, who nodded. "One day, when you're old enough, I'll open it with you. I promise." she rubbed a thumb across Jesse's cheek, making him smile at her.

Jesse slowly kneeled in front of the chest, placing a hand on top of it.

"Dude! You just left me out there! How could you?" Jess snapped, entering the house and dragging the buckets of fish in.

Jesse didn't move, "Are you going to open that? Mom said we can't." Jess said, standing beside Jesse.

Jesse didn't move his hand, waiting for some sign. "Come on! I'm hungry.. let's just leave this box and go." Jessica took Jesse's hand and moved it away from the box. He looked at Jess, realising how much she looked like their mom.. which was a sign he was waiting for.

Without a word, Jesse held Jess's hand, and opened the chest.

And right in front of him, was two crowns, one made of gold and the other silver. The smaller silver crown... just like his vision. "Jess." Jesse whispered, looking at his sister, who stared open mouthed at the two shiny objects.

"But..." she trailed off.

But Jesse felt something click. He was royalty... which meant.. he closed the box, standing up. "I have to find Lukas." he said quickly, holding Jess's hand and making his way up to the castle.

Lukas's PoV

He looked at his mom, who was holding his hands. "You don't have to be nervous, Lukas." she said gently as he stood in front of the double doors. "But..." he trailed off. "I don't want to marry someone I don't love." he looked down at the floor.

"I know you don't..." his mother smiled sadly at him. "But your father says its for the best. And Petra is a good choice."

"But I don't want to marry her! She may be a princess but I just don't want to spend the rest of my life with her." Lukas protested, tears threatening to spill.

The queen wiped away his tears. "I know.. I really do. But just marry her. For the sake of our kingdoms."

Lukas looked at her calm green eyes. They reminded him of Jesse's... for the past few days, all he thought about was that boy. The little commoner who caught his heart... but... he wasn't royalty. And there was no choice.

"Alright mom..." he sighed. At least when he was finally king... he best he could do for Jesse was to move him to a better home.

The queen gently took his hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze before letting it go. Lukas took a deep breath and opened the double doors, right into a grand ballroom... he looked around and spotted Petra. The princess was wearing a shimmering dark blue dress, and a golden crown on her head.

But she looked upset..

Lukas walked over to her, "Hey... what's wrong?" he asked politely. Petra noticed him and hastily wiped away her tears. "It's nothing.." she muttered, smoothing her dress and wrinkling her nose at it.

"Are you sure?" Lukas asked as she looked down at the dress for a moment. After awhile, she sighed. "Lukas... the thing is.." she looked at him. "I don't want us to get married... but my mom.." she glanced at the woman, who was holding up a glass of champagne and laughing.

"She's so demanding... and I bet the only reason why she wanted me to marry you was to share your kingdom's wealth." she folded her arms. "I'm sorry.."

Lukas felt a little relieved. "It's okay... no offence, but I don't want to marry you either.. my heart belongs to someone else." he admitted, a slight blush rising in his cheeks. Petra raised an eyebrow. "I heard about your prophecy.. is it true?"

Lukas had to think about that... "I think so... ever since I saw him-."

"Him?" Petra blinked before smiling. "You're in love with a boy?" she asked curiously.

Lukas hesitantly rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah... it's kind of strange, isn't it?"

Petra grinned a wide smile. "Can I... tell you a secret?" she asked. Lukas smiled as well, "Sure... since I've already told you mine."

Petra took a deep breath and pulled out a beautiful cream coloured necklace. At the end was a blue shell, and a pearl. "I bought this at the market a few days ago... and a girl was selling them. I fell in love with the necklace and this girl and I talked for ages..." she had a small smile.

"And... just saying, but my mother had a prophecy about me too." she looked down at her hands.

Lukas kept quiet, wanting to know about her prophecy... Petra took a deep breath and pulled out a book.

The princess will find love one day

But it's not a love she will expect

But she will tell one person about this

And that person will rewrite fate

"It's pretty short, but when my mom found out..." Petra trailed off, "She set to work, finding men to make me marry. Because she wants me to rewrite fate or something." she rolled her eyes.

Lukas shrugged. "Oh well, we can't do-."

"There you are! The dance is about to start!" Lukas looked up to see his father's hand on his shoulder. "The dance? Oh right... the dance.." he smiled weakly. It was custom to dance during the ball after all...

Petra and Lukas exchanged a look as their parents ushered them to the dance floor. "I hate dancing in this gown." Petra whispered, holding Lukas's hand as they danced, just to make their parents happy.

"I don't want to force this Lukas, really... but I just don't have feelings for you." Petra continued as they waltzed around. "Same here... I mean, you're a good person to talk to and-."

The double doors burst open, making Lukas flinch and turn to look at the door. Everyone stopped moving, looking at the intruder. "Jesse?" Lukas murmured, and spotted the golden crown on his head.

No one moved, since they were just watching Jesse, who was trying to catch him breath as he scanned the room. Finally, he caught sight of Lukas and beamed happily. "Lukas!" he said, running towards him as Lukas took a few steps forward. Jesse rushed into Lukas's arms as he hugged him.

"What are you doing here?" Lukas asked, looking at Jesse's bright green eyes, filled with tears. "I came to find you... and the prophecy was true.. I was actually royalty!"

"Enough!" someone shouted, making the two boys turn. Petra's mother stood in front of them, looking furious. "Who is this commoner and why does he have a crown on his filthy head?" she snapped.

Petra glared at her but didn't say anything but Lukas shielded Jesse. "He's not a commoner! Can't you see he's royalty?" he demanded.

"Yeah right-." Petra's mother scoffed. "Until I see some proof, you better get away from that poor boy."

Jesse glared at her, clenching his fists.

"My dad's name was Steven and my mom-."

"Alex?" Lukas interrupted and looked at Jesse, wide eyed. Jesse nodded as Jessica and Petra looked at each other, a shock of recognition crossed their faces. "But that kingdom was destroyed years ago.."

"I know.." Jesse nodded. "But my family's been living off the coast for years too. And I found these crowns in a box." he gestured to the crown on his head.

"So you are... the long lost prince?" Lukas's mom asked as the king looked shocked. Jesse didn't loosen his grip on Lukas's arm as he nodded. "I suppose so-." he started to say when Lukas pulled Jesse into a kiss.

Jesse stared at Lukas, wide eyed but slowly kissed him back, smiling as everyone either clapped or looked tremendously shocked. But Lukas didn't care...

Finally... he smiled and pulled away from the kiss... he was with the boy he loved...
