Abnormal

(Oooh boy, another one of these Oneshots. I'm so sorry, I just love these) 😹 (But seriously ;v; I need to know more ships)

Note:
This is gonna be a 'magic' themed Oneshot, where Jesse and the others live in a realm where magic is possible, but.. well, just keep reading. (He's five years old in this) AND this is NOT relevant to School for the Abnormal, which I'm currently writing. XD

Anyway, HERE'S DA STORY :) please suggest some ships for me to do ;v;

Jesse's PoV

"Mum! Mummy, look what I can do!" Jesse ran up to the beautiful blonde woman standing in front of the kitchen stove. She smiled and looked down at him. "What can you do, honey?" she asked, her brilliant blue eyes twinkling at her beloved son.

The five year old stuck out his tongue and cupped his hands. Immediately, a small fire appeared in the middle of his hands, making Jesse's mother look at it with surprise and shock. Luckily, the child didn't seem to be in pain, he just seemed to be enjoying himself.

"Jesse." she whispered and bent down to take his hands, making the flames die and fade into wisps of smoke.

Jesse looked at her, wondering why didn't she praise him like how she always did whenever he drew something for her or when he did something correctly. "Jesse, honey," she stroked his cheek with her thumb. "You're not allowed to tell anyone about this, alright?" she said quietly.

Jesse tilted his head, "But why, mummy? Why can't I tell anyone about the fire?"

Jesse's mother shook her head. "It's too dangerous.. just trust me, alright? That's why we're living in the woods, honey." she said softly. "No using your powers.. it's too dangerous." she repeated and got up to tend to the food, simmering on the stove.

Jesse frowned, "Yes mummy." he sighed and slowly went back to his room upstairs, where there were many candles on the floor. He shut the door quietly, staring at the five candles and watching the fire flickering every time he moved. He stared at them and sat on a wooden chair. He knew he shouldn't disobey his mother... but he really loved watching the fire dancing on his palm, or watching the tiny sparks fly up to the ceiling.

"One more time wouldn't hurt.." he murmured to himself and held up a hand, willing the flames to appear again. They obeyed, immediately illuminating the room with soft bright light. Jesse smiled, using his other hand to slowly make the flame bigger.

"Jesse! Dinner's ready!" he heard his mother call. Jesse sighed with disappointment. He really wanted to play with his magic more.. but oh well, he needed to obey his mom. She was all he had left of his family after all.

"Coming!" Jesse immediately stood up, and his foot knocked over a candle, pouring wax onto the floor and making a small flame appear on the edge of the carpet. "Oh snipe." he muttered, something he heard his mother say when she accidentally knocked over something.

Jesse tried to blow out the fire but it just got bigger, something he wasn't intending to do. How could he put out the fire? Jesse held out his hands and tried to scoop the fire into it, but it didn't really work, since he was immune to the raging flames. "Oh great..." he said, a little scared when the fire grew even bigger, since they were living in a wooden house after all.

"Mum!" Jesse cried, "MUM!" and almost immediately, his mother burst into the room, gasping. "Jesse? What happened?" she quickly reached for him but the smoke was starting to intoxicate Jesse, making his eyes water as he backed away from the flames, and right against his mom.

"We have to run," his mother said quickly, watching the flames start to burn everything.

"But mum, it's my fault, I-I knocked over a candle. I was playing with my powers and-."

"Shhh, don't say that now, honey," His mother said soothingly, despite the situation. "We just have to get out of here." she scooped him up and started to make her way to the door. "Wait! What about Reuben?" Jesse pointed to the plushie, sitting on Jesse's bed.

Jesse's mother nodded and scooped it up, handing the toy to Jesse while the house started to break apart. Again, his mother made her way to the door, and into the living room, where beams were starting to fall from the ceiling.

"Jesse- just stay calm, alright?" she said to him as she tried to find a way out of the burning house. Her feet were starting to hurt, since she was barefoot. "Over there mum!" Jesse pointed to the door, which was partially blocked. She nodded and immediately made her way over to it. "Don't move." she told Jesse as she pulled away the planks covering the door.

Jesse looked up at the ceiling, where it looked like it was slowly going to crumble. Jesse's mother gently took his hand, and pulled him up, "Here.." she said, and helped him climb through a small hole she had uncovered. Jesse fell out of the house, not even the slightest bit burned or hurt.

"Mum!" Jesse called, looking into the hole to see her still trying to break more planks of wood to make a gap big enough for her to climb through.

"Jesse, wait for me in the-." she coughed, covering her mouth because of the smoke she was inhaling. "Wait for me by the waterfalls, I'll look for another way out." she reached through the gap and stroked his cheek with her thumb.

Jesse nodded, believing that she was going to make it out. She was his hero, someone he thought was going to stay with him forever. "Okay mummy. I'll see you later." he smiled. His mother nodded and coughed again, tears in her eyes. "Of course."

With that, Jesse ran off, towards the waterfalls he and his mother had discovered in the woods once when they were looking for food to eat. Behind him, his mother was in the house, still looking for a way out. But there wasn't... she was trapped in the house until it burned down.

************************

He waited for her by the pool of water, his feet slowly going colder as he waited patiently. Finally, he sighed and looked at his reflection in the water, wondering if he should go back to the house to look for his mother...

Maybe she meant a different waterfall? There were two they had discovered together after all... Jesse hopped off the rock he was sitting on and started to walk, his fists clenched. But instead of heading there, he headed home instead... and was greeted by the crowd surrounding it.

"Burned down to the ground." someone said as Jesse weaved around the the legs of people, trying to find his mother. "No survivors."

Jesse was only stopped by a police officer, who caught him by the arm. "Where's your parents kid?" he asked but Jesse just didn't say anything. He just wriggled out of his grip and shot into the house, trying to calm his rapidly beating heart. Where was his mother?

"Hey!" the officer called after Jesse but he was too scared. He needed his mom... "MUM!" Jesse cried, trying his best to pull away some broken beams. Tears streamed down his face as he desperately tried to find his mom. He needed her.

"No!" Jesse screamed as the officer caught him and started to drag him out of the house. "SHE'S STILL ALIVE IN THERE!" he protested as the officer carried him away.

"You can't take me away!" Jesse cried, as the officer shut him in the car, locking him in.

Jesse cried, hugging his plushie close. The only thing left from his mother...

************************

After that day, he met a few others like him. Jesse grew up to be a independent young teenager, always escaping from the police. They didn't help him. They abandoned him.

And even after meeting his friends, a blonde boy named Lukas, who controlled the water. A girl with flaming auburn hair, who controlled the flames like Jesse. Three of them were special, just running from the police and from their past.

The other two were fine with using their powers, but Jesse didn't. He never watched the flames dancing in his hands or even lit the campfire with his friends.

He just sat there in silence and listened to his mother's last wish.

To never use his magic ever again.
