Cliffhanger

Jesse was sitting on her bed with her legs crossed. She didn't seem to pay attention to the heavy rain outside, not even flinching the thunder cracked, lightning lighting up her room.
Jesse kept her eyes glued to the book in her hands, her gaze slowly and steadily moving over the page in front of her. The book was thick, most likely having about four- or five hundred pages.
Reuben was lying near Jesse, his head resting on his front paws. Soft piggy snores left his mouth, his tail flicking in his dreams.
On Jesse's bedside table stood two empty glasses and an empty plate, a sign that she's had her lunch in her room earlier.
"Come on..." Jesse breathed, her grip on the book tightening slightly. Her eyes didn't leave the page for a second, as she clutched the book tightly in suspense.
"Jesse?"
The sudden voice made Jesse leap out of her skin, letting out a shocked shriek and dropping her book. Reuben's eyes flew open, squealing in surprise.
"Woah, Jesse, didn't mean to scare you like that." Olivia said from Jesse's door way with a chuckle.
"Oh, hey Liv." Jesse greeted, pushing her hair out of her eyes. "I just got really absorbed in that scene I was reading."
"You've been absorbed in that thing all day." Olivia replied as she walked into Jesse's room, picking up the dirty dishes from her bedside table. "Dinner's ready."
"I'll just bring a plate to my room." Jesse stated, getting up from the bed.
"No, no." Olivia said, shaking her head. "You've been locked in here all day now. The least you could do is to come have dinner with me and Axel."
"But I only have about two pages left of this entire book." Jesse whined. "I need to know what happens next, Olivia!"
"And you can survive without knowing for ten more minutes." Olivia replied sternly.
Jesse didn't have a chance to argue, Olivia pulling her out of the room by the arm and leaving her book discarded on the bed.
"Woah, I didn't think you'd get her to come out!" Axel joked as Olivia lead a reluctant Jesse into the dining room.
"Very funny." Jesse muttered, sitting down at the table. "Let's make this quick, my favourite character in that book in on her deathbed. I need to know if they get the antidote to her in time!"
"Jesse, it's just a book, the fictional character won't die while you have dinner." Axel said, laughing as he took a bite of his food.
Jesse barely seemed to hear him as she hastily started stuffing the food into her mouth, barely chewing and quickly swallowing.
"Jesse, I bet you're not even tasting what you're eating." Olivia said with a shake of her head.
"Hmm mm." Jesse just mumbled through a stuffed mouth, trying to polish the plate of food at the speed of light.
Only barely avoiding to choke on her food, Jesse finished her plate in less than two minutes, leaping up from the chair.
"Thanks Olivia, dinner was great!" She said quickly before excitedly darting back to her room.
"Can we never let her near a good book again?" Axel asked, exchanging glances with Olivia.
Jesse ran back across the tree-house, the planks creaking beneath her bare feet. She ripped open her bedroom door, ready to grab her book and see whether her favourite character made it or not.
Jesse stopped dead in the doorway however, her eyes widening at the sight in front of her.
Staring back at Jesse was Reuben, chewing contentedly on a ripped piece of paper. Bits of torn paper at the back of her book indicated that it was in fact the very last page Reuben was holding in his mouth.
A loud shriek echoed through the tree-house, making birds throughout the forest, fly up from the trees in panic.
Till this day, Jesse never knew how the book ended. Some say she will carry her questions with her to her grave some day.

Just a short one, but a hilarious one at that xD
This is kinda a joke towards the recent cliffhangers of the past three chapters in "Secrets Beneath the Lies". I couldn't resist writing it!
Sorry it's so extremely short, it's not really meant to be an actual one shot, more of a joke lol. XD
Hope you guys had fun reading this!
