Chapter 16

"we should add them to the museum." Lightning said.

"no." Doc said. "somethings are mine." Doc added. Lightning nodded.

"okay." he agreed. Doc looked at him.

"thats it no fight?" Doc ask, suspicious of the younger.

"nope. somethings aren't meant for everyone to see." Lightning replied. "I wouldn't want everyone seeing my wrecked suit, but if you're willing we can put the good one in there." Lightnings added. Doc raised an eye brow at him. "what?" Lightning ask.

"when did you get a heart?" Doc ask. Lightning huffed at him. Doc chuckled slightly, throwing his arm around the youngers shoulders. "I appreciate the Hudson Hornet wing of the museum kid, really, but those suits aren't going anywhere." Doc murmured. Lightning nodded.

"thats okay." Lightning said. "keep them." Lightning shrugged as they walked into the house. Doc shut the door behind him. Lightning plopped onto the couch, unstrapping his boot and propping his let up onto the table. Doc headed for the kitchen. Lightning laid over on the couch, stretching out over the cushions and closing his eyes. he laid like that a moment, before Doc walked over.

"move or I'll sit on your head." Doc said. Lightning opened his eyes and sat up enough Doc could sit down. Lightning laid back down over his lap, looking up at him. Doc raised an eye brow at him, a cup of coffee in his hand, almost amused. "you did good today kid. I'm surprised you didn't freak out after your wreck yesterday." Doc said.

"I was too distracted and once I realized what was going on... I kinda realized that I was fine." Lightning shrugged a little looking at Doc. "I was focused on arguing with you and then thinking about Chick and I just didn't even notice. its a normal thing and I just have to readjust." Lightning said. Doc chuckled slightly and ruffled his hair gently. Lightning turned his head to watch tv when Doc turned it on. "isn't it a little late in the day to be drinking coffee?" he ask. Doc snorted and propped his feet up on the table..

"its never too late for coffee, and its only 4 in the after noon." Doc muttered, setting his cup down. he flipped through the channels, his free hand playing with Lightnings hair almost absentmindedly. then he seemed to realize something. "hold on. sit up." Doc said. Lightning sat up confused and watched him walk off. he shrugged, but got up off the couch and headed for the kitchen. he need a drink. he grabbed himself a cup, poured himself a cup of orange juice, and was just about to take a sip when something was plopped on his head hitting the cup and spilling his drink down the front of his shirt.

"hey!" Lightning huffed turning around. Doc was chuckled. Doc had put the Hudson Hornet helmet on him, without a care in the world he was trying to get a drink. Doc chuckled watching him flip up the visor and glare at him.

"sorry." Doc snickered. Lightning huffed and sat the cup down, shaking his hand off. he headed to change shirts, the orange juice was going to get sticky if he didn't change. Lightning grumbled and headed into the spare room. he paused catching himself in the mirror. he helmet looked just like it always had in the pictures. he smiled a little and pulled the helmet off, setting it on bed before ripping his shirt off. he pulled a new one on and carried the soaked shirt to the laundry room. "you're not wearing your boot kid." Doc said.

"I was just intending to get a drink." Lightning replied. Doc snickered from where he sat on the couch. Lightning huffed and sat down, snatching Docs coffee and taking a sip of that.

"thought it was too late in the day for coffee?" Doc ask.

"you spilt my drink." Lightning muttered.

"well if you look just to the left of my coffee cup, I got you a new drink. drink your own." Doc said.

"you're not a very good sharer. don't take my blanket, don't drink my coffee." Lightning huffed. Doc chuckled slightly.

"I share a lot." Doc murmured.

"a lot of attitude and stingy." Lightning said.

"oh you're one to talk about sharing attitude." Doc snorted. Lightning rolled his eyes and put Docs coffee back on the table.

"Doc!" Sally called knocking on the door. Lightning looked over confused.

"duty calls." Doc muttered. Lightning nodded a little. Doc leaned over intent to give him a peck on the lips, but Lightning grabbed him and kissed him happily before letting go. Doc sat back after a moment, before getting up off the couch. Lightning smirked slightly, Docs cheeks had been slightly darker than normal. "I'm coming Sally." Doc said. he headed for the door. he opened it. "whats up?" he ask.

"Ramone ripped his stitches open." Sally said.

"that fucking idiot!" Doc hissed jumping off the porch.

"he's in the shop!" Sally shouted. Doc nodded, running off towards the porch.

"whats up Sally?" Lightning ask, strapping his boot on. he walked over to the door and leaned against the doorway.

"Ramone was working on your car and ripped his arm open again." Sally said. Lightning looked at her slightly confused.

"on my car? Doc said he ripped his arm open on his own car." Lightning said. Sally froze a moment, her eyes widened.

"uh, yeah the first time, but this time he ripped it open on your car." Sally said. Lightning didn't seem to believe her.

"he lied to me." Lightning said.

"no he didn't I just-" Sally tried.

"and now you're lying to me." Lightning glared. Sally got quiet and looked at him. Lightning shut the door and huffed. Sally flinched slightly and headed to the shop, looking guilty.

"uh Doc..." Sally trailed.

"what?" Doc snapped, wrapping up Ramone's arm. "don't touch it again until your arm is healed." he growled. he turned and looked to Sally, looking annoyed. "what?" he ask.

"I um..." Sally trailed.

"speak." Doc said, cleaning off his hands.

"I kinda didn't realize you told Lightning that Ramone hurt himself working on his own car and not the 95." Sally said rubbing the back of her neck. Doc heaved a sigh out of his nose bitterly. he shook his head and stormed back to the house. did no one in this town realize he was trying to keep Lightning from getting upset? he entered the house, but Lightning wasn't on the couch. everything was still the way he left it, except the spare bedroom door was closed. he sighed and walked over to it, knocking.

"kid." Doc sighed.

"you lied to me." Lightning said.

"yeah because Ramone nearly lost his arm working on your car." Doc said. Doc opened the spare bedroom door and looked at him. "I'm not an idiot kid. you were already feeling like an idiot and I wasn't going to pile more on that for no reason." Dox frowned. Lightning glared at him silently, but he knew Doc was right. he would've been even more upset knowing Ramone got hurt fixing his mistake, but he was still angry Doc lied to him. Doc never lied, well, at least to him. he glared at Doc who rolled his eyes. "come on kid. get up." Doc said, almost seeming amused. he knew Lightning knew he was right and was just pissed about being lied to.

"no." Lightning glared. stubborn as ever, he was going to sit and have his childish pout until he decided to forgive him.

"don't make me drag you out." Doc said. Lightning glared at him. "I'll do it." Doc warned.

"go away." Lightning glared. "I'm angry. you lied to me." Lightning said.

"and I'm sorry. I was trying to help. don't be childish." Doc said. Lightning glared at him again. "okay." Doc shrugged, grabbing hold of him, as if to pull him off the bed.

"fine!" Lightning huffed, getting up. Doc smirked at him and chuckled softly.

"come on. lets go eat something." Doc said. Lightning shot him a dirty look, arms over his chest. "doubt be pouty, it's not cute on you when you're angry." Doc said, ruffling his hair. Lightning huffed, his cheeks turning a soft pink. "come on, we'll go to Flo's and get some pie." Doc offered.

"you can't butter me up with pie." Lightning glared.

"sure I can." Doc replied. Lightning huffed.

"yeah and what makes you think you can? because I-" Lightning glared. Doc turned quickly, shoving him against the wall and standing over him.

"because I said so. get your shoe on." Doc said, before turning and walking away. Lightnings face lit up bright red and he huffed, glaring after Doc. the older chuckled, making him flustered was way to easy and a great way to shut him up. Lightning stepped away from the wall, muttering to himself as he went for his shoe. Doc waited for him, an eye brow raised as he took several minutes for a task that shouldn't have taken long. "come on." Doc said, waiting impatiently.

"I have to find my- fuck it Flo won't care." Lightning muttered, heading for the door. Doc chuckled softly.

"want me to call Mack so he can carry you?" Doc teased. Lightning huffed at him.

"I can walk." Lightning grumbled.

"I could carry you." Doc smirked.

"of course you could. you can carry an entire set of tires at one time, by yourself, and I don't weigh that much." Lightning grumbled.

"that was an offer." Doc said.

"what? you want to carry me or something?" Lightning raised an eyebrow. Doc shrugged.

"its an offer if you need me to." Doc assured.

"I'm not broken. I can walk." Lightning said. Doc shrugged again.

"I know you're not broken, but you're favoriting your booted leg. you weren't doing that before you wrecked again, which means it hurts. you're limping kid and it worries me." Doc replied, looking over at him.

"of course I'm limping. this boot it like an extra three inches on my leg." Lightning said. he knew Doc was right, his leg had been aching more since the second wreck, but he didn't want to end up back in the clinic or worse, the hospital.

"I'll take you to the clinic to check it out. come on." Doc said heading for the clinic.

"you promised me pie." Lightning groaned.

"pie after I make sure you didn't fuck up your leg again. I should've checked when I checked on your arm, but I didn't think to." Doc grumbled. Lightning winced, rubbing his leg. "either I carry you there or Mater does." Doc said.

"why Mater?" Lightning ask.

"because he's the first person I saw." Doc said.

"I'll hurt you, you're old." Lightning grumbled. Doc scoffed, stopping in his tracks. he turned, grabbed Lightning, threw him over his shoulder, and headed for the clinic. "HEY!" Lightning hissed, crossing his arms.

"old does not mean incapable of doing anything." Doc grunted.

"Doc...." Sally trailed watching him.

"he called me old." Doc muttered, heading for the clinic. Sally blinked and looked at Lightning. he huffed, shooting her a dirty look when she giggled. his face lighting up a dark red and his arms firmly crossed over his chest.

"don't you have anything better to do?" Lightning scold.

"not really." Sally laughed. Lightning flipped her off. "you really called him old?" Sally ask.

"too old to pick me up." Lightning grumbled.

"you should know better by now than to challenge Doc." Sally smirked. Doc carried Lightning into the clinic and plopped him down. Lightning huffed at him.
