Short One-Shot #1 - Fly Me To The Moon

This is for HatsumiBamboo!

Thanks! ^-^

I wanted to go with a kind of nice space theme with different planets and it's set in the future or an alternate world and all that to really give it a dreamy feeling. People can normally visit planets now and can survive in space without helmets, and Earth is kinda vacant and Hatsumi kinda just wants to find out why.

I left things vague to give it a simple but adorable and interesting vibe.

Here are some songs to listen to while reading this!:

Hatsumi stood near the edge of Lana's moon, Arya. He took in the dark vast black dome surrounding him, and jumped. Instantly, gravity flipped and he was spinning through the stars, whooping and laughing.
Colours of the stars, greens and reads and bright yellow-oranges and purples flew through his hair, past his eyes and spun together to create shapes.
Warmth moved through his fingertips, making them yellows and yellow-oranges and coral-red-pinks that moved his chest.

Space exploration was amazing.

The heather-coloured moons floated around him in a swirl, chunks of yet another crumbled planet in small chunks of grass and umber earth. Hatsumi gave a small sigh. Another one gone, with no idea how the small planet had been destroyed.

It was hard to maintain these planets, with so many, sure, but every time another one had been destroyed, he felt awful.
He had made a vow to protect these planets, and he had failed.

He continued spinning, making a mental list in his head about which planets he had already visited, and realized that he hadn't even remotely tried to visit his own planet, the one in the most danger.

Earth.

Taking a longing look at the stars twinkling warmly above him, Hatsumi began to spiral back down to Earth, humming slightly to himself. Planets and stars and flowers spun by him in bright colours, a few space creatures even wandering by. But he had no time to check on any of them. Instead, he began to fall much faster, gliding through the milky black space. He could almost feel himself gliding through its own substance, buttery-smooth and silky.
Why no one left Earth for normal space exploration really was a mystery to him. But he reminded himself that only he and very few others had the power to do so.

Usually, humans would be allowed to visit space whenever they desired, flipping from planet to planet with the slightest tilt of their feet.
But then they came...

The earth was still intact, but the red planet had come closer. People were asked to evacuate into space. People had been everywhere, getting into ships and using their specially designed sandals to float up into the atmosphere, away from the planet.
But they had stopped.
There was no attack, no deaths, not even a change in Earth itself. But most of the people were gone, now deciding to travel to different planets while still living on Earth. But the planet, it's people, had not decided to attack, because of the life on it, the animals, the sandy deserts and the lush rainforests.
Although there had been rumors of war...

But still, not much usually happened on Earth.

Still, Hatsumi felt a need to visit his home planets, and felt his sandals growing heavier as he fell vertically through the air. Occasionally the gravity of a meteoroid or another smaller planet would pull him in but then let go, spinning him around. Hatsumi giggled whenever that happened as he spun through the sky.
Finally, he felt the gravity of his planet coming.

Earth.

Usually people would burn up on re-entry as they came close to Earth, but through the years it had been easier to simply land on Earth.

His feet touched the ground, soft fern grass and dirt underneath his feet. Hatsumi inhaled, closing his eyes and smiling. He was in a small field, or maybe a park? A couple benches floated through the air, then settled back down to Earth.
Hatsumi saw a small white-and-cream rabbit eating some grass not too far off. Hatsumi picked up a tuft of grass.

"Here, little guy," He cooed sweetly. The rabbit's ear swiveled and it turned its head. It started to lightly amble and hop his way and took a bite of the grass while Hatsumi kindly stroked its head. "Oh, you're adorable, hello..."

"Feeding bunnies, huh? So that's what you Planet Guardians are up to nowadays?" A sudden warm but slightly cocky voice said suddenly, making Hatsumi leap in alarm. The rabbit scurried away and fit itself down into a small caramel-coloured burrow.

"Hey, hello. Jeez you scared me," Hatsumi mumbled to the stranger. "What're you doing here? I thought most of the humans would be up in space today. They ARE having that space festival, aren't they?"

"Yeah, but I felt like coming down here." The taller boy's smile suddenly faded. "Wait, you don't recognize me?"

There was a brief silence as Hatsumi took him in. A bit tall, with a gray beanie hat and a flannel red shirt. There was something about his twinkling eyes and smile that-

He gasped.

"XAI!!" He threw his arms around his old friend, and Xai burst out laughing, hugging the other boy back. "I haven't seen you in years!! When did you get back from Krilla!?"

Xai continued laughing but finally could catch his breath.

"Just a couple months ago! Have you heard? The people in the shuttles are coming back! Most of the major countries are working again - we even have Wi-Fi!"

Hatsumi chuckled.

"That's awesome!"

"Yea! I heard that once Earth is restored people will hold festivals in the shuttles and do more space exploration but still stay on Earth! I was thinking of going to one of the parties on the shuttles, and I was wondering..."

A sudden rumble in the earth made both duck instinctively. A fireball seemed to crash their the atmosphere. Yellow-orange flickers swirled around the object as it landed somewhere away from where they were currently standing.
"Not again," Xai muttered.

Hatsumi turned to him. "Hang on - has this happened before?"

Xai nodded gravely. "As soon as you and the other Planet Guardians went from earth to take care and tend to other planets, they came..." He pointed to the planet high in the sky, and Hatsumi could see a terra cotta light brown smooth ship hovering near. It looked almost like a pirate ship, oddly enough.
"That's their base. I've been meaning to go up there and stop the attacks so more people can come back to Earth, but I need a Guardian to float..."

He looked expectantly at Hatsumi, and warmth spread on his face. He coughed. "You uh - erm, you need a ride?"

"If you wouldn't mind," He smiled back.

Hatsumi nodded. Having an adventure with Xai would be amazing. He lifted the other boy up and the two instantly began to float.

They seemed to fly through the air, and the world blossomed around them as they flew; dense tropical jungles, autumn forests, golden shimmering sandy-rose deserts, bubbling foamy heather-purple and reddish brown soap-like beaches...

And the stars twinkled down on them magically.
