I'm excited for this one! Since it's actually gonna be published on Halloween - also I love writing these five because it feels natural to write them interacting with each other. Let's continue!:

~

"So...what now?" Papisuu shuddered mainly to herself. The four remaining adventurers had gotten to the next room. A small sienna terra-cotta red-brown room with a blue-purple carpet and a chest.

Still shaken after their friend's awful death, Dawson sat down.

"She didn't even get a chance to defend herself, or anything!" The girl exclaimed.

"Well, she'll be revived soon anyways, so it won't mat-" Fangirl started to say, when a loud voice boomed over the room.

'AH, IT SEEMS THAT YOU'VE COMPLETED MY FIRST FEW ROOMS! YOU'VE WON-'

"We did!?" Papisuu asked, sitting up straighter.

'THE FIRST MANSION! NOW, YOU MUST TRAVEL DOWN TO MY HIDDEN SECOND MANSION! GOOD LUCK, YOUNG AND MIGHTY ADVENTURERS!'

The speaker crackled away.

"Ah," Papisuu slumped back down.

"What did he mean, 'travel down,'?" Boredom asked. "Is there like a hidden city beneath this mansion?"

The girls continued through the doors. Another hallway greeted them. Warm reddish-browns and a turquoise carpet was in full form. "These hallways are all starting to look the sa-AHH!" Papisuu cut herself off, nearly falling.

She had opened the door to the next room, and had been met with a balcony dropping into another level of the mansion. It was upside look, turned in a way to look at those who dared enter. It was a darker reddish brown, unlike the birch mansion they were currently in, and somehow it felt even stranger.

"There's a chest here!" Fangirl announced, throwing open the chestnut-painted chest. She pulled out a long pair of sleek black elytra. "No way!"

"So we're supposed to fly down there?" Papisuu asked in disbelief.

"Well - let's go! And get the heck out of here!" Boredom fastened the wings to her cape and jumped off the platform. The others watched her soar down to the door of the terra cotta-colored second mansion before following.

Dawson twirled through the air, tilting like a bat with a broken wing. Fangirl and Papisuu leaped and glided gently down to Boredom's level.

"Hey! Up here!" Someone greeted them. Everyone yelped, then turned to see, above them, a small reddish-brown peach birch platform, behind birch bars, was Investagator.

"Investagator!" Many people called out.

"You're alive!"

"Well, I was dead, but I think I'm good now!" The sleek-haired girl grinned awkwardly. She sat back down. " I think I'm "out" now, so I'm just gonna sit back and watch you guys! Good luck!"

Dawson waved happily, then followed the others to the next room.

The next chestnut-colored room had multiple blocks of wool with buttons, and a special wooden button next to that. Papisuu muttered something under her breath.

"Alright - Boredom, hit the button!" Dawson called out like a 1920s race announcer. Boredom complied, and a sweet but short melody.

"Do we have to...repeat that?" Fangirl asked.

"Hey, and there's a button here in case we have to restart," Papisuu chimed in in relief. She played the melody again.

"I think the note colours match the...blocks?" She hit the red block. It didn't sound like the melody. "So, the first one's...green."

"Okay, we can restart," Boredom said simply, hitting the button. Papisuu almost immediately after hit green. Boredom restarted. Papisuu hit the green. Boredom restarted.

"Ugh, guys-" Fangirl started. Dawson started giggling so hard she had to bury her face in her hands, bending down to the ground.

"Stop hitting it!" Papisuu snarled defensively, and hit the green, then played the melody. "So, green, blue...yellow?"

Almost immediately, the door beside them swung open. "Sweet!"

They stepped through the doors and were instantly welcomed into a cave, lit into a soft yellow-orange glow by the torches on the side, the smooth artificial stone lining a tunnel. A couple chests held leather amour, dyed patches of red and navy blue.
"I wonder what we're supposed to do here?"

Their answer was a hiss.

The group turned around to face a giant spider, hundreds of bright red eyes blinking at them idly. 'HELLO REMAINING ADVENTURERS! FOR YOUR NEXT TASK, I'D IMAGINE YOU HAVE TO GET TO THE DOOR ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THIS MINE-SHAFT AND CAVE SYSTEM, BUT AVOID THE SPIDERS! IF YOU'RE CAUGHT, IT'S YOUR TURN TO GO JOIN OUR LOVELY INVESTIGATOR IN OUT MAKE-SHIFT PRISON! GOOD LUCK!"

Click.

Hiss.

"Run. Run!"

The four adventurers ran, the cozy little ruby-red-covered cave flying past them. Papisuu just barely dodged a spider coming from a top of the cave, while Dawson dodged a baby zombie launching itself at her.
The mine-shaft soon came into view, with wooden birch blocks lining the top, spiders and other various mobs seeming to materialize out of thin air.

"Eek!" Papisuu yelped, ducking under a random plank of wood. Explosions sounded from somewhere, and more spiders scuttled up the walls.

"Oh, Wolfe would hate this," Papisuu commented under her breath, ducking again.

Fangirl screamed as a spider fell from the ceiling, right as she had aimed an arrow at it's head. The spider beside is scuttled out of the way, striking out at Dawson.

The hiss grew in her ears, and all she could see was a fuzzy black. "Get it off!" She howled, terrified, tripping over a cobble-block.

Boredom quickly threw the much smaller spider away, picking Fangirl up by the hand. "You alright?" The reddish-brown haired girl asked, and Fangirl nodded, shaken.
Boredom yelped, seeing the giant black spider coming back towards them still, and the two booked it.

"I see the door!" Papisuu yelled out to the others, and there was a small terra-cotta coloured door, nestled within the soft cobble.

The small group raced through the door, the warmth of the cave turning into a small neighborhood. The large spider stopped. 'CONGRADULATIONS,' the speakers roared, making Dawson jump.

'COLLECT ME 120 PIECES OF TREATS, OR TRICKS, AND YOU'LL BE ABLE TO MOVE ONTO THE NEXT STAGE WHICH WILL TAKE THE AUTHOR ANOTHER YEAR TO COMPLETE!' The voice went on to announce.
'YOUR TIME STARTS...NOW!'

And instantly, the small neighborhood changed and shifted. A small marketplace filled with villagers, bathing everything in a reddish-brown light. What was once a small quaint neighborhood turned into a full-on town, with winding roads and villager children dressed as zombies and skeletons, trick-or-treating.

"We could be doing that right now," Fangirl said, her voice filled with salt, glaring at Papisuu.

The green-haired girl's hands flew to her chest defensively. "Me!? It wasn't me who suggested we come here!"

By this point, Dawson had already began to go to houses. The villagers grinned sweetly and handed her pieces of candy. "I got them!" She grinned at the others.
"Okay, Dawson! Good job!" Boredom praised.

"You take the left, alright?"

"I take the left!" Dawson chirped obediently.

The two took the left side, while Fangirl continued to argue with Papisuu while they tackled the right side.

As they continued to get candy, Boredom huffed. "I don't think we're going to be able to carry all of these like this, especially since we're down a salty shipper and since we need 120 of these things." She picked up a cyan-coloured candy and popped it into her mouth.

"Oh! Here! 'Take One If Needed, Just Remember To Return It!'- Signed The Villager Committee!" Dawson said suddenly.
There were multiple pillow-cases and trick-or-treat bags, hung up on a theme coat-rack.

Dawson grabbed two, one cyan one for herself and a dark reddish-brown one for Boredom. "Thanks," Her friend muttered, taking it and eating another candy.
"Boredom! Stop eating them!"

"Sorry! They're good!" She picked up another one, and Dawson slapped it out of her friend's hand. "No more!" The blonde girl admonished.

They continued gathering candy, moving from house to house, while the other two had luckily stopped arguing. Occasionally, Papisuu would scream across the neighborhood, asking how they were doing.
"GOOD!" Boredom would often shout back. It was even worse if Papisuu wouldn't hear, to which she would then shout back, "WHAT!?"

Like an old married couple, Fangirl thought with a grumble.

When the four had cleared the small cul-de-sac, they met up near the forest. "Where to now?"
Fangirl shrugged.
"I'm tired," Papisuu groaned. "I wanna go back home to trick-or-treat! Plus; we'd promised we'd meet up everyone else!; Kendall, Phoenix..." She gave Dawson a meaningful look. "Cindy."

"Maybe...ooh hey! A scale!" Dawson pointed out suddenly, very much wanting to change the subject, and the other three startled.

Sure enough, a lime-and-yellow-and-coral coloured scale with a small meter on the top was standing there near a few of the marketplace booths.

"Here ya go!" Dawson said chipperly, dumping her stash into the bowl on the scale, her Rosalina-Mario attire perfectly matching it's colours.

Everyone emptied their bags, and the simple lime-coloured bowl made it's stand, a light cream-birch-brown colour, start to shake. Finally, it stopped.

"Congratulations! You've collected enough candy!" The machine said in a very electronic voice. "Well, mostly. You just need one more piece."

"Figures," Papisuu snarked.

They all stood, and from the corner, they could make out one yellow-orange light, with a kindly-looking villager lady standing by, holding up their one piece of candy.

"That looks sketchy," Boredom muttered, hackles raising.

"Who cares? We need it," Papisuu reasoned, and she went to take it, the rest reluctantly following.

"Thanks!" The green-haired girl grinned up at the lady. She nodded, then laughed. And laughed.

"Uh-"

It turned to a cackle.

"You FOOLISH GIRL!" The villager laughed wildly. "You've walked right into my trap!" There was a good moment of silence following this.

"Uh...is something going to happen or should I...?"

"No no, hang on, I've probably missed something, I could've sworn that's all I - oh. Would you mind stepping to the right."

"Sure?"

Papisuu side-stepped, and instantly her feet hit a soft mat. It read, "STEP TO ACTIVATE SIDE-QUESTS."

"'Side-Quests?'" Papisuu asked, bewildered.

"Ha-Ha! Yes! Now thanks to my genius work, you're trapped! Doing useless side-quests! AHAHA!"

"Seriously?" Papisuu blinked. "How does that work?"

The villager pulled out a list. "I need to get some things from the store - do you mind?" Suddenly, an explosion nearby triggered Papisuu to stumble backwards. The villager screamed and ran past Papisuu, presumably to the store.

Boredom caught her but wobbled, and the two fell.

In place of the explosion was a ghost in a snazzy copper-coloured suit and little bowtie. They attained a microphone and cleared their tiny throat.

"Ladies! You five, specifically. Welcome to Useless Side-Quests with your Host, the almighty, all-powerful, and always hungry MIDNIGHT!" The ghost spoke softly, with all the ferocity they could use.

Dawson almost squealed at the small sight, then gasped.

Rising from the freaking ground was a figure; a girl, with mangled hair. A heather-brown colour, matted, with two dark brown eyes poking out. Claws came out of fingers - er, paws, and her dark hair flowed around her face.
Boredom recognized her almost instantly - "Wolfe?"

The werewolf said nothing, only crossed her arms.

"And next on our list, she's silent but deadly! A real charmer, and a true sense of comedic timing! It's the SILENT SHUTTER!" The ghost announced next.

Next from the ground came someone with a long flowing tan-and-black-striped dress, a black jacket with frills, and a white top-hat. Part of her face was entirely...mechanical.

With spinning cogs of reddish-brown and all, and a large clunky camera was swung around her neck.

"That's Cindy," Fangirl muttered, shaking. From beside her, Dawson looking a mix of embarrassed at suddenly seeing her and terrified.

The camera-carrying girl mouthed something. Instantly behind her, a black screen had appeared, with text saying "Hello. Nice to meet you all. Shame you'll have to die."

"And finally - you know her, you fear her! She owns this mansion, no matter what the boss says! Plus, touch her library and her flames will be the last thing you see - it's AZURA PENDRAGON!"

The ghost spun around happily, then whisped away into nothing with a little bow.

And there she was, grinning evilly down at the remaining four adventurers, her turquoise flames spiraling around her wings.

"So - you lot are still alive? Interesting...you seemed to have hit the Side-Quests! Perfect..." She said in that same identical perfectly merciless tone. "Well, here's the rules:"

In a split second, Dawson felt herself being teleported, feeling warmth under reddish-browns surrounding her. It was the marketplace, busy with booths selling things in colours of pastel limes and teals to peaches, to ancient things that looked cursed and patched-up heather-blue blankets.
"You all have 15 minutes to find each other, but this marketplace is big, and strangers might ask you to tell them with side-quests here and there," Pen's voice said from seemingly normal.

"You may not call to each other where you are, but you may talk,"  Came from a sudden big black board above them, signaling Cindy - Silent Shutter - had been talking.

"Good luck," Came Midnight's gruff voice.

Dawson began to wind her way around the busy marketplace, villagers and humans bumping into her, shoving her, pushing her aside, while her mind whirled.

Rush, Cindy and Wolfe were here...but why? Why had they been corrupted? They were all supposed to go trick-or-treating...was this the Mansion Master's plan? To trick them with their friends?

Despite herself, Dawson smirked to herself. The Mansion Master. Sure, that can be his name for now.

Suddenly, a face popped out from a booth, and Dawson jumped. It was the villager lady from earlier.

"Can you please do my shopping?" She asked innocently. "Uh - sure." Dawson muttered, taking the shopping list. She could see the little cream-and-teal coloured shop near the end of the marketplace.

She stepped towards it, and immediately someone else was asking her to do their meaningless task. Then more. Dawson groaned internally.

-

Is this the store? Dawson entered and immediately was swarmed with people, just outside the entrance, all shouting at her, asking her to do their tasks.

Jeez, when they said a couple of side quests, I didn't think they meant everyone wanted our help! Dawson thought in sudden terror.

Suddenly, a hand yanked her out of the crowd. Suddenly, a hundred new scrolls and task fell into Dawson's arms. It was Fangirl who was dragging her to safety.

"Thanks," She muttered, then noticed Fangirl didn't have any tasks. "What? Why don't you have any?"

"I'm not exactly sure why either," Her friend frowned. "Anyways, then I can help you out! What do you need to do first?"

Dawson pointed at the store. "Alright, then onwards! What else?" Fangirl asked as the two made their way past crowds of scroll-people.

"Well, one man wants us to find his cat who's gone missing, poor thing, one person lost their new hat, this one girl's suffering from writers block..."

"Huh-"

-

"Thank you for finding my button!" A villager squeaked happily, holding the smallest red button Boredom had ever seen, but she smiled nontheless. It was a little half-hearted, but whatever, it was fine.

"You're welcome, sir." He merrily skipped away. Boredom almost felt like she'd done a good Samaritan act. Maybe she'll pat herself on the back later.

Not one second later, her foot catches on a rope. She screamed. "Ah!" and the world turned upside-down.

"Get me down!" She hollered as Midnight cackled from seemingly nowhere. "Well, we've caught one!" And the colorful pastel words said, "Trapped!"

"Now you'll have only three minutes to get help, or we'll get to kill ya!" Pen stated beside her. Boredom groaned.

-

"I'm looking for people to help!" Papisuu announced, figuring once everyone had come to her, the others could easily meet up with each-other and then find her.

She hoped.

Instantly, people and villagers began to swarm around her like insects, all clamoring for her to take their scroll.

"You get a help! And you get a help! Everybody gets a help!" The green-haired girl grinned wildly, imitating Oprah. It was grammatically incorrect, but she didn't mind too much.

She took the scrolls and dashed past people, stopping when she heard someone...Boredom?
"Hey! Anyone! You guys!"

Papisuu turned the corner and snickered.

"Shut up."

Then, suddenly, an absolutely deafening BWAH! sound made a cacophony over the little marketplace. Everyone stopped. Turned towards it. Papisuu's stomach twisted. Boredom gave a yelp as her rope fell, and so did she.

"Oops! Seems like you ran out of time!" Silent Shutter's words said over the booths. "Looks while we'll have to..."

"Give you a second chance."

And then the ground fell open.

-

Yayyyy that took way too long for how short it was my goodness.
