Run My Heart
The Maze Runner.
This will mostly follow the plot of the first film, not the books because I haven't read them, sorry.
This is a romance between Gally and my OC who is played by Rihanna, and Newt and my OC who is played by Selena Gomez. If I finish it, I'll do the others.
Also their will be a bit of bad language.
*WARNING SPOILERS*
This will tell you Newt's fate.
If I do the other films Newt won't die. Just saying cause if it was me, I like knowing before I invest my feelings in it, no insult to anyone that keeps that plot, because it's your fanfic and you get to chose how it goes. No offense intended.
Unknown P.O.V
I jerked awake as the surface below me shuddered and shook. I opened my eyes and rolled onto my stomach, spitting and coughing out the water that clogged my throat. As I stopped and took a deep breath I realised the surface I was laying on had holes in it and I could see a very ominous drop below me. I jerked back in fear landing on my back as I breathed heavily. What I realised was a cage shook and I skidded a bit on the metal. Carefully I stood and gripped the wall of it as I watched long horizontal lights flick past. Where the hell am I? I thought to myself. Wait who am I? I questioned.
"Oh My God. I can't remember anything." My breathing quicked as did my heart.
"No don't panic." I said to myself. I shook the edges of the cage, but it was secure. I climbed one of the strange crates around me and shook the grated ceiling. Nothing. Where would I go anyway? I mentally scolded myself, before I decided to sit down and wait.
"I'll just take on who ever's at the top. Yeah." I said to myself. My mind felt foggy and almost ichy. I couldn't remember anything, but panicking never got anyone anywhere. Well I presume it wouldn't, not that I'd remember. I looked around me in an attempt to distract myself. I lifted a cloth draped over a crate with my foot, to read the letters W.C.K.D.
"What the heck is, Wicked?" I asked myself. I realized that the crate had become bathed in a red light. I looked up to see a red ceiling rushing towards me.
"Oh shit!" I said as I covered my head and squeezed my eyes shut. The cage jerked to a stop and I opened my eyes. A loud horn like noise sounded and the ceilings light turned green, and then all the lights turned off. My breathing sped up as I waited in the dark.
Suddenly the ceiling opened and a white light flooded the cage. I raised my arm to block out the light as my eyes adjusted. Shadows of people fell over me and I stood up. Murmur's flitted through the group, who appeared to all be male and crowded around the cage. The cage's roof was pulled open by a couple boys, as they all peered down at me in curiosity.
"Its a girl." I heard through the crowd.
"Why's it a girl?"
"What does this mean?"
"Well go get her." One of the boys said as I backed up in a corner of the cage and squinted in suspicion at them all. One of the boys jumped down and I raised my fists up in front of me, breathing heavily. He was tall and buff with short brown hair that flicked up at the front, and captivating green eyes that were almost grey. He approached me carefully, like I was an animal that was easily spooked.
"Who are you?!" I spat out with a glare. "Where am I? And why can't I remember anything?" I said as I pushed myself further into the corner as he took a step closer, my fists still held up, but I knew there was not much I could do. I don't know how to fight, but better to look the part then to surrender.
"My name's Gally. You're in a place we call the Glade." He said as he held his hands out in front of him in a subduing manner.
"Why can't I remember anything?" I repeated as my face fell into confusion.
"We've all been through it. Just come with me and we'll explain everything." Gally said as he held out his hand. I looked at him with a guarded look.
"You can't stay here forever." He added as he lowered his hand. I nodded slowly as I let my arms fall to my sides. Gally jumped up the edge of the cage and climbed out before he turned around and held out his hand for me. I walked over and took it as he helped me climb out of the cage and stand on the grass. We held eye contact for a moment, my hand still in his. I quickly let go and averted my gaze. I looked around at everyone who stared at me. Not another girl in sight. I held my head high and gulped. As I gave closer inspection to the world around me I noticed the large grey wall like structures, ivy inching its way up and down them, they seemed to surround the "Glade". We were crowded on green grass, tree's clumped together in sections with wooden structures along the edges of a forest and littered elsewhere, with animals scattered around too.
A dark skinned man approached me and held out his hand.
"The name's Alby. Do you remember anything, anything at all?" He asked me as I eyed his hand before I shook it firmly.
"No. Why can't I?" I said as I became a little panicked, as I scrunched my nose up and eyed those around me with caution.
"It happens to all of us." Alby said, then added. "Everyone get back to work." The group dissipated at his command. "Walk with me?" I nodded and followed, taking in the things around me.
"You'll remember your name in a couple days, no longer than a week I'd say. But that's all you'll remember." He said as we walked away from the cage, that was now being unpacked behind us. I nodded as I watched a guy walk past me with a branch in his hand.
"We do all our own work. Growin' food, building, where we sleep? We built it." He said as he pointed at structures as we walked side by side, further around the Glade.
I realised we'd pretty much walked in a small circle, when the cage came back into view.
"Whatever we need the box provides. And the rest, we make due." He said as he pointed at the cage I had come up in. "Any questions so far?" He asked as he watched me stare at the box. I shook my head trying to process everything.
"Every month that box comes up with fresh supplies and a new Greenie. We've just, never had a girl before." He said. I looked at him at that comment.
"So, I'm the first girl here?" I asked as I looked at a few boys behind Alby that had stopped their work and were staring at us.
"Yup. First ever." Alby said, as the boys noticed I'd spotted them and quickly looked away, continuing their work.
"Who did this? Who-who put us here?" I asked as I focussed my attention back on Alby and tucked a strand of my black hair behind my ear.
"We don't know." I nodded, before I noticed someone approaching us from the corner of my eye.
"Ay Alby, how's the new Greenie doing?" A boy said as he came to stand next to us. He had dusty blond hair and chocolate eyes. Alby smiled and chuckled.
"She's doing better than any of you boys did." Alby answered and they both gave a laugh. I eyed the boy. He had a thinner fizeek, but with a bit of muscle and a cheeky sort of grin. He turned to me and gave me a smile. I gave a half smile and nodded.
"Hi I'm Newt." He said in an accent I didn't know, but then again I didn't know anywhere but here. He stuck out his hand, I shook it. "Nice grip." He said with a surprised smile. Alby smiled.
"When I'm not around, he's in charge." Alby said as he looked between us both.
"Well it's a good thing you're always around then." Newt said with a cheeky smile as Alby laughed.
"You're the talk of the Glade, we ain't never had a girl before." Newt said. "You've got everybody intrested." He added, as he smiled, as did Alby.
"Thanks, I guess." I said with a smile.
I tilted my head and squinted around at the guys working around the Glade, before my eyes landed on the large concrete walls.
"What's out there?" I asked as I observed the large gap in the walls. Alby and Newt looked at eachother and I looked between the both of them, sensing I wasn't going to get an answer.
"Do me a favor, go find chuck, tell 'im to clear out one of the boys quarter's." Alby said as he clapped Newt on the shoulder. Newt nodded as he walked around them. I followed him with my eyes.
"She can take mine." He said over his shoulder as he walked.
"Thanks." I said as he walked away. He half turned and smiled brightly.
"Catcha later." He said with a wave as he turned back away.
"Come on." Alby said as he guided me by a hand on my back towards a tall wooden structure, comprised of three levels with ladders going from one to the next. I looked up at it with a soft, barely noticeable, smile. Alby began to climb and I quickly followed.
"This is the whole Glade. We worked hard for it. We respect this place, and we get along just fine." He said as I leaned against the railing staring at the gap in the grey walls.
"What's beyond those walls?" I asked again, but once again he didn't answer.
"We only have three rules." He said as he leaned against the railing, facing me. "First, do your part. No time for any free-loaders. Second, never harm another Glader. None of this works unless we have trust. And most Importantly, never go beyond those walls." He said seriously as he looked me dead in the eyes. I nodded feeling a little dazed from all I had and hadn't learned.
"Hey Alby, new girl!" A youthful voice yeld from below. We leaned over the edge, my hair hanging in my face, and I spotted a young chubby boy with curling brown hair.
"Hey Chuck." Alby said and the young boy waved. I smiled and gave a short wave. "Where you been man?" Alby questioned with a chuckle. We made our way back down and onto the grass.
"Chuck this is the new Greenie, Greenie this chuck. He was last months edition." Chuck smiled enthusiasticlay and I chuckled and smiled back.
"Chuck'll show you to your quarters." Alby said as he smiled and then walked away leaving me with the kind young boy.
"This way." Chuck said with a smile.
.o0O0o.
We walked into a room a little ways from, what Chuck called, the Homestead.
"The whole Glades talking about you. Since your the first girl and all." I smiled as I looked around the small simple room.
"Where all a little curious." He added as I walked over to a small desk next to the wall where a ruffly carved sphere sat.
"You know, you're handling this better than anyone." Chuck said as he sat a bag that was over his shoulder onto the floor. I was only half listening as I picked up the wooden ball.
"I did not do well when I first arrived." Chuck continued as I threw the ball up in the air and then caught it. I repeated the action again twice as I looked out the small window, its dirty curtains pulled to the sides. By now I had blocked Chuck out entirely, as I stared at the gap in the wall.
Suddenly two guys came running through it. I creased my brows and quickly placed the sphere back on the desk before I rushed out of the hut. I jogged towards the two boys.
"Wait!" Chuck called after me as he followed me towards the two boys. I stopped just short of them. One had black hair and thin eyes, the other had blonde hair and ears that stuck out a little.
"Woah!" The one with black hair said as he jumped back from me in surprise. I blinked my eyes rapidly in confusion and shock. The blonde and the blackette looked between Chuck and I with wide eyes.
"The Greenie's a girl?" The blonde questioned in bewilderment. The Blackette's face relaxed and he smiled.
"Well I'll be damned. I'm Minho." He said as he put out his hand for me to shake. I shook it and nodded my head with a slight smile. "This is Ben." He added as he gestured to the blonde beside him. Ben shook his head as if to clear it, then shook my hand.
"Greenie. So I've been told." I said and Minho chuckled.
"Well welcome to the Glade, Greenie." Minho said as he and Ben walked past me and Chuck and off to the woods.
"What do they do out there?" I asked as I turned to Chuck in curiosity.
"They're Runner's. Alby didn't tell you?" Chuck asked and explained as we turned walking back to my new room. I shook my head. Chucks eyes widened.
"Then you're probably not meant to know." He said embarrassed as he twiddled his fingers looking anywhere but at me. Suddenly the ground shook and a great screeching, rumbled through the Glade. I turned quickly as the opening in the walls slowly closed. I stopped staring at the now closed doors.
"Okay now you have to tell me." I said as I turned back to Chuck as we finished our journey back to my room.
"Okay, but you didn't hear it from me." Chuck cautioned as he picked up the bag he had previously dumped on the floor. He handed it to me and I opened it to reveal a couple sets of clothes, a brush, a couple hair ties, and a few other female things. I nodded a thanks to Chuck.
"Where'd you get this?" I questioned suddenly curious and momentarily distracted from my previous question.
"Came up in the box with you." He said as he sat on the edge of the bed. I nodded and put the bag down in the corner of the room.
"So the Runner's, the place out there?" I questioned again, pulling our conversation back to that point. Chuck sighed.
"It's a huge maze, a labyrinth. It surrounds the whole Glade. The Runner's go out everyday to find a way out but still haven't. It changes each night you see, and there's also these really scary creatures in there called Grievers." Chuck finished, I shuddered taking it all in. A loud bell like noise rang through the Glade and I flinched slightly.
"That's dinner!" Chuck said, his cheerful demeanour back.
