Chapter Three: Gasping For Breath

Todoroki sighed as he met eyes with Bakugou. It would be just the two of them today looking for (Y/n). Kirishima had managed to get himself sick and couldn't join them today. It wasn't quite awkward, but it was close. (Y/n) was close to all of them, so was Kirishima. Bakugou was close with Kirishima and (Y/n), and Todoroki was the same. The two of them didn't really hang out on their own, so they didn't exactly know each other as well as they thought they did.

"So, where do you think we should start today?" Bakugou asked.

"I..." Todoroki trailed off for a moment, trying to remember what he was going to say, "I was wondering if you'd be okay with just stopping at one place and then calling it a day."

"As much as I don't want to agree, it looks like it might rain later, so sure," Bakugou huffed.

All three of them were beginning to give up a little. The three of them had been fortunate to run into him at the start of their search, but they hadn't seen him since then. It was like he was a ghost, he was there, but he just passed through the nearest thing and disappeared. It was killing them, especially Todoroki. He didn't realize how much loved (Y/n) until they got together, and he didn't realize how much he needed him until he wasn't there.

"I have a spare key to his old apartment," Todoroki foretold, "if it's still vacant we should stop by and see if he left anything."

"Cliché, but we're running out of options," Bakugou nodded.

It took the explosive villain stating it, but Todoroki realized that now too. They had run into (Y/n) several weeks ago. He went cold when he realized another couple of months had gone by. He felt sick to his stomach when he realized just how long it had been. There was the time when they were still with the League of Villains right after (Y/n) left, and now there's the time they've been searching. Three and a half months.

Todoroki froze. What was his status with (Y/n) at this point? Were they still lovers— hell, were they even friends? It seemed like the former leader of their group barely considered them acquaintances. It hurt Todoroki to think that they might as well be strangers. (Y/n) had seen them, fought beside them, and didn't come for them even when they proved they were still there— they were still his team.

"What's up with that face?" Bakugou questioned.

Todoroki gave him a surprised look, Katsuki cares? "What look?"

"You look like you've suddenly been hit by a fucking bus," Bakugou stated calmly.

"Gee, thanks Katsuki," Todoroki sighed, "but I'm fine."

"Bull shit," Bakugou responded, "you had that same look come over your stupid face when we saw (Y/n) a month and a half ago."

"Oh," Todoroki looked at the ground, should I tell him?

"Spill," Bakugou basically ordered.

Here goes nothing, "(Y/n) and I are— were? (Y/n) and I were in a relationship when he left."

"So that's why he came out," it was more of a statement than a question, "he wanted to test the waters before you dived in. Sounds like him."

"Yeah, and he just left," Todoroki sighed, "I don't know where we stand or what his thoughts are, and it's killing me."

"You're a fucking moron, you know that, right?" Bakugou asked.

"What?" How to make someone feel better 101...

"(Y/n) spoke to you last before he officially disappeared, and his intentions are pretty goddamn obvious," Todoroki gave Bakugou a blank look. The blond groaned, "He did it you protect, but especially to protect you. He still loves you, that's why he didn't jump to bring us into his mess after we bumped into him. He's holding onto the hope that he can keep you safe because he cares about you as more than a friend now."

"Wow, I-" Todoroki uttered, shocked.

"Even Kirishima could have figured that out, and his brain is about the size of a dog's," Bakugou sighed, "let's go to the stupid apartment now."

(Y/n) cursed himself for what was happening. He felt pathetic as he gasped shallowly and wheezed due to his current lack of oxygen. If only he could talk, make a voice-oriented noise, anything— he'd had no problem unwrapping this large hand from his throat.

All For One scowled as he looked down at his son, disappointment and anger clouding his vision. To think that he had once been desperately trying to find the young man in front of him disgusted him more than anything. (Y/n) was supposed to be the next huge villain, with the help of his father, not without. The fact that he was gay just made it all the worse.

(Y/n) coughed as he started to turn red. He was good at several things, but he was in no way built for this. He had been kicking and struggling the whole time, but the larger man wouldn't let up his hold. If (Y/n) made it out of this, he would surely have bruises.

"You disgrace," All For One spat, "first you end up like- like this— then you make my most powerful squad drop the league!"

What?

(Y/n) wasn't sure what he was talking about. Surely the Vanguard Squad hadn't just up and left, so it had to be the rest of Mayhem— but why would All For One come for him? His thoughts were cut short by his brain's cry for oxygen. His chest felt tight, everything felt tight, and he was struggling to get in even the little bit of air he had managed before.

"I don't see why they decided to go after you, you little shit," All For One growled like an animal, "you're weak. I don't understand why the heroes haven't caught you yet."

(Y/n) couldn't respond. His mind was going blank and he couldn't process what All For One was saying to him. His vision was starting to cloud and blur, and it was dark around the edges.

'-he would die to make sure he got there'

Not yet...

(Y/n) wasn't going to cry, he sure as hell wasn't going to give the man before that much satisfaction, but he felt pathetic. He never got to change the world. He never got to prove himself. He never got to truly see Todoroki, Kirishima, and Bakugou again. He never got to defeat Deku once and for all. But more than anything, he didn't get to say "goodbye" to Todor-

"SHIT!" All For One yelled as he suddenly dropped (Y/n) to the ground. He held his hands and stared at the hero to his left. Even as the air rushed back into (Y/n)'s lungs, he was barely conscious.

Mina knew she had to step in when she saw the male against the wall. He was nearly dead. His skin was blueish-purple and she looked at him the moment he stopped struggling. The smaller of the two was giving in, letting himself die— Mina Ashido, the hero called Pinky couldn't just watch that happen.

She threw some acid at the larger man's hands, causing him to lose his grip on the smaller and younger of the two. Mina felt sick as she observed the young man just crumble to the ground. He didn't pick himself back up. This only angered her more as she shot acid at his knees, making him collapse. Once she got a good look at him, she knew very well who it was.

"All For One," her voice trembled slightly, she wasn't prepared to be the one to take him down, "you are under arrest for several charges.  Do not attempt escape, anything you say or do will most surely be used against you."

All For One tried to get up, but Mina burned his ankles with her quirk and put him in his place. She then went up to him and push down on his pressure point. He passed out and collapsed as Mina ran over to the man on the ground.

"Sir?" Mina asked, wait— "(Y/n)?"

(Y/n) came to at the call of his name. He almost smiled when he realized who was in front of him, "Mina?"

"Holy crap," Mina exhaled as she pulled him into an embrace, "oh my lord, you almost died."

(Y/n) didn't hesitate to hug back, "Thanks," he said half sarcastically, "Shit, I didn't realize how much I missed you until now."

"Same here— oh my God," Mina muttered, "you're here and you almost died."

"Hmm," (Y/n) just hummed.

"I missed you too, holy crap I missed you so much," Mina blabbed, "how are the others? Where are they?"

"I don't know. We haven't met properly in months," (Y/n) sighed, "can we just enjoy each other's company right now?"

"Holy shit, of course," Mina smiled as tears started to flood from her cheeks, "I thought I knew how much I wanted to see you again, but my God, I underestimated myself."

"Me too," (Y/n) said quickly, "Jesus, especially me."

(So, that was a longer chapter than usual. The chapter itself was 1500 words flat. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the chapter! Moving on, ugh, school is starting back again way too soon. I'm not ready to go back yet! I like being able to relax and stuff for a little. But, I do miss my volleyball team... I'm conflicted— go back and the see team [and play the sport] or don't go back and relax eternally. What would you guys choose?)
