19 - The New Guys
Two weeks passed and Nari hasn't swung-by, nor did Hyebin. All the guys did feel a certain aura missing from the shop with the exception of Yuta and Haechan. Yuta had his days busy entertaining Natsuno and well, Haechan had his hands full dealing with Jinho.
"Haechan, your regular's here!" Doyoung shouted from the counter as he saw Jinho step inside the shop. The younger, who was cleaning up tables on the upper floor let out a sigh. Tossing the cloth towards Jisung, Haechan made his way down the stairs. As his eyes met with Jinho, he felt like conjuring up some hole and jump into the hole and be gone.
"You didn't really have to call him just to take my order you know..." Jinho spoke with her tone just the slightest of annoyed but Doyoung completely ignored her remark. Doyoung gestured Haechan to come to the register quickly and once the younger came close, Doyoung pushed him towards the register and went into the kitchen.
"If it's fine with you, I'd want a cream pie and have it thrown into his face," Jinho said as her eyes followed Doyoung before returning her gaze to the menu. "I'd just have a tropical smoothie and two egg tarts," placing her order, Haechan punched in her order and Jinho left her money on the counter before finding a seat.
Jinho scrolled through her Instagram and looked at her friend's stories. By the time she finished watching, Haechan came to her table and placed her food along with her change. "Thank you, Sun," Jinho bid him, making him turn back with a questioning look. "What?" Jinho asked with a fork in hand and Haechan softly replied with another question, "What did you just call me?"
"Son, like son. S O N. You're my son," Jinho replied with a laugh as she put down her fork and sipped her smoothie. "Ha ha ha, nice one..." Haechan let out a fake laugh and clapped his hands forcefully.
Returning to the register, Haechan eyed Jinho from afar. His focus on what he heard was a bit too much that he didn't realize that someone had come up to the register. "What are you daydreaming about, Haechan?" the person asked, making him snap back into his barista self and greeted, "Welcome to NCT!"
"Oh, it's you!" Haechan's tone cheerfully rose as he saw who had come. "I don't think you actually miss me that much, seeing how you've been eyeing Jinho there," Nari spoke with a giggle, which resulted in a loud scream of denial from Haechan.
"Okay, okay, I was just teasing, whoever you like, Hyebin or Jinho, or anyone, I only want you to have more faith in your feelings okay?" Nari chuckled and extended her arm to ruffle Haechan's hair. "Enough of that, I'd have one vanilla latter, one mocha and two chocolate chip frappucinos. And four cookies of your choice," Nari placed her order, a number four times more than her usual causing Haechan to punch in her order with slight confusion.
"I've brought my cousin and his friends today. They said I talk too much about how good NCT is, they wanted to see it for themselves," Nari explained as she read the expression Haechan had plastered on while scanning her card to pay for her order. "Just what has gotten into you," laughing, Nari ruffled Haechan's hair again before heading to her company.
"So, what do you think of the place?" was the first thing Nari asked as she took a seat beside her cousin, Jungwoo. Her cousin nodded as if agreeing with what she had told him before. Looking in front of her, Lucas had his eyes roaming the shop in awe while Kun simply laughed at how Lucas was.
"Are they hiring?" Lucas asked straight away after he made eye contact with Nari. Letting out a hearty laugh, Nari was amused with how positive Lucas was. "They already have a lot of hands on board and even one of them said that they might not be able to pay for another set of hands when I went to make drinks by myself," Nari replied, hinting that they might not have any openings for Lucas.
Pouting, Lucas dropped into his seat, making Jungwoo and Kun laugh. "You don't need to feel so glum or do you really want to work at a coffee shop?" Kun asked. Lucas placed his arm on the table to cushion his (now) heavy head and softly answered, "I want to work here. NCT sounds cool."
Just before Nari could say anything to Lucas, Jaehyun came up to them with their order and greeted Nari, "Hey Nari, haven't seen you around lately." Helping Jaehyun placed their order on the table, Nari replied on why she hasn't been stopping by, "I've been a bit busy with family matters and helping my friends with their events. Sorry. Did I miss on anything new?"
"Probably just tasting Taeyong's trial and error cakes and maybe Ten's morning mop dancing routines," Jaehyun joked and chuckled at his own answer. Jaehyun's eyes moved to Jungwoo and let out a shocked expression "Eh..."
"Jungwoo..." "Jaehyun..." the two spoke at the same time and Nari eyes them back and forth. "You guys know each other?" Nari asked and the two nodded. "Yeah, I knew him from twitter a while back," Jaehyun said and Jungwoo continued, "and we were skyping just a few days ago with Kun and Lucas and some of his friends as well."
"Wow..." Nari spoke as she sipped on her vanilla latte and then let out an exaggerated sigh, "I don't know if I should feel happy for you two or slam your heads together." Jungwoo and Jaehyun looked at Nari, "WHAT?"
"The fact you both know each other, I applaud that, but not even a talk about NCT really makes me question what do you guys even talk about? Like, I just don't get it..." Nari hummed to herself afterwards and continued to gulp her drink.
"Most likely about stuff," Ten came out of nowhere, with his mop and emphasized on 'stuff'. Taeyong lightly slapped the back of Ten's head and greeted Nari with a smile, "Hi Nari!" Nari smiled back at Taeyong and waved her hand before turning back her gaze to the still glum and pouting Lucas.
"Say Lucas... since you're acquainted with these guys, though I don't know just who you know, you could ask them since they're already here. Don't look like a deflated hamster, will you?" Nari suggested and Lucas' eyes shined and a wide smile lighted up his expression.
"Could we work here?" Lucas asked out loud with excitement, sending Taeyong, Ten and Jaehyun a shock. "We have a lot of hands already..." Ten spoke under his breath but Jaehyun nudged Ten, not wanting to shoot down Lucas' determination. "We don't really pay the kids and we're always busy so I guess having a few more hands wouldn't hurt?" Taeyong said, his tone a bit uncertain.
Before Taeyong could finalize his thoughts, Lucas had already jumped out of his seat and hugged the trio. Nari chuckled in amusement as Jungwoo and Kun looked at Lucas with stoic expressions.
"I guess I should order two cups of coffee from now on..."
