14 - You Can Have It
Nari was about to take a seat with the younger ones but as she pulled the chair back, Taeyong intervened, "Don't you want to pick the flavours?"
At the realization, she pushed the chair back and headed towards the showcases with Taeyong following right behind. The group not able to hold in their smiles and smirks, not wanting to laugh in joy, which ultimately failed since Hyebin and Jinho giggles to themselves and the boys did the same.
"It's like when you're reading a book and the main characters finally get together and you can clearly see your ship is sailing," Hyebin said with her hands over her cheeks and squealed over the sight. In which, Haechan copied, with a higher degree of cuteness, or so to say.
"I think I forgot to bring my cough medicine," Jinho spoke after letting out a dry, forced cough. "Come on, Jinho. Just admit that you're actually fluttering seeing Haechan being cute," Jaemin retorted as he ate his ice-cream, plastering on I-know-I'm-right-like-you-know-I-am expression and giggled to himself.
"If you're trying to play cupid, I suggest to those two," Jinho held her hand towards Taeyong and Nari while eyeing Jaemin with an expression that screamed if-you-could-just-stop-it-ugh expression. "Not with me and this," moving her view to look at Haechan who rolled his eyes as soon as their gazes meet, she couldn't even finish her sentence and forced a shiver as if she was hit by some strong winter wind.
"I know you like me Jinho," eyeing the girl, he scoffed before continuing, "But dream on. You and me? No way."
"You know, usually when someone uses that phrase, it means that, that someone likes the person they use that phrase to, or I just see it like that," Hyebin slowly spoke and she gestured her hands in circles trying to clearly convey what she thinks.
Haechan looked at Hyebin, disapproving what she said and turned his gaze away, letting out a sigh.
The others laugh at Haechan, except for Jinho who still eyed the boy before shaking her head, brushing away the thought of the dork and sarcastic friend of hers liking her.
All the while they were teasing and laugh, Taeyong and Nari came back to the group with Nari holding a cup with 2 scoops of ice-cream. Pulling the chair she intended to sit on earlier, she placed the ice-cream on the table before sitting down, with Taeyong sitting next to her.
"I think we need to get a move on now," pushing his seat back, Jeno quickly grabbed the empty cup and went to the bin to throw it away.
"Oh yeah, we should get going, the others would want us to be helping with the large order Taeyong said," Chenle stood up to, his hand on Jisung, tugging the later to go with him.
"We'll walk with them back to the shop too, I really want to have a slice of cake before going back," Hyebin said, pulling Jinho with her, totally ignoring the fact that she agreed with Nari to pick her up at the shop after she finished eating ice-cream.
"You mischievous lot," Nari sighed at the sight of all of them heading out with giggles and waving goodbye. Jeno and Haechan stopping before passing through the entrance, held their hands together, forming a heart as the looked at the two people left in disbelief.
"If you want to head back to, go ahead," Nari said as she let another sigh of disbelief at what the youngers did. A timid smile carved on his face, "It's fine, I'll let you finish the ice-cream first then I'll head back."
"You've been troubled enough, go ahead, and take this with you, you need it more than I do. Plus, you were the one who paid for it," pushing the ice-cream towards Taeyong, she didn't want to burden the lad much more.
"You said those were your favourite flavours, it would be a shame to not eat. Just take it, please. Or else, by the time we finish this, it would melt completely," a giggle ended his sentence, which made her do the same.
"If you really insist," Nari gave up and took a spoonful of the cookies and cream flavoured ice-cream. "But it feels really bad to be eating this by myself," the spoon still in her mouth, she pushed the cup towards Taeyong, and lightly shrugged her shoulders.
Taking a bit of the cookie dough ice-cream, he ate it and Nari smiled. Shaking his head at her, she laughed at his expression.
"Sorry for not talking to you last night, I felt so tired I was close to falling asleep with the food as my pillow," Taeyong said as he watched Nari take another spoonful of the ice-cream. Before placing the ice-cream in her mouth, she reassured him, "It was okay, I could see you were dead tired. Plus I enjoyed talking to Johnny, I haven't had anyone to talk in English with for awhile, so it was nice to brush up on my rusty English."
"Rusty? You sounded like a native to me," Taeyong chuckled at her statement. "Well, you speak Japanese, and I don't even know anything past hello," she rested her head on her arm that was on the table with Taeyong laughing at her actions, slightly shy at her compliment on his language skills.
"Is it really okay for you to stay here with me?" she questioned as she quickly straightened up her body posture, looking at him straight in the eye with slight guilt for pushing him back.
"I mean, fifteen, twenty minutes won't hurt, I guess," shrugging his shoulders, he replied. "You don't have to worry about me, just enjoy the ice-cream. Everyone else in here is happy about a new ice-cream place and you're the only one worried."
"Because you're not supposed to be accompanying me, you have a big order and yet, you're here caring about me not letting the ice-cream melt and not about your business," lifting a brow, Nari eyed him.
"Okay, you've got a point there, I'll head back. I'll see you later then," slightly laugh as she pushed back the chair and waved to her, walking towards the exit.
"Wait," she held out her hand and Taeyong turned to listen what she wanted to say, his heart racing rapidly, anxious to what Nari would say.
"I'll give you a lift, since we both are heading back to the shop," picking up the ice-cream, she hastily ran and stopped next to Taeyong, who had a puzzled look.
"Are you scared of my driving?" she questioned, making him snap out of his daze. "No, not that. I haven't even seen you drive, how would I be scared. Just a bit shock you're offering to drive me back," he blinked a few times, resulting in her giggling.
"You brought me ice-cream and I'll be sending you back, let's just call us even," she said before heading out and went straight to her car, him following with a very obvious wide smile.
"Wait, this is your car?" Taeyong stood still, as she was about to get into the driver's seat. "My parents' actually, but I drive it a lot more than they do. Why?" she anxiously answered with a worried expression.
"No, I wasn't leading towards that, just that it's similar to mine, even the plate number is close to mine, and I was thinking you might be the ones who prefer the more cozy ones," replied her opened the passenger's door.
Relieved at his answer, she went inside and placed the ice-cream cup in one of the cup holders. Pushing the start button, she turned on the air-conditioner. As she chooses a song on the screen, Taeyong made himself comfortable and buckled on his seatbelt.
Finally making her choice, Dangerous by Clazziquai Project started to play. Buckling her own seatbelt, she looked at the coming traffic before moving out of the parking slot. "You enjoy this kind of music?" he inquired as he slightly swayed his body to the music.
"A lot, actually. Indie just has that charm to it," she tapped her fingers on the steering wheel along to the beat. "I guess, you might like High by Jida and Rachel Lim then," his eyes travelled from the street to Nari, who was focused on her driving.
Coming to a stop from the red light, she took the ice-cream and ate a spoon or two before moving her gaze to Taeyong, "I'll like to give that a listen." Taking her phone, she unlocked and went to her music streaming app before handing it to him.
"Search and just play it, it's connected to the car. I don't want to trouble others if the light suddenly turns green," explaining, she quickly placed her hand on the lower part of the steering wheel straight after he took her phone.
Typing in the song details, the moment the song started to play, the lights turned green and they continued their drive. "I love her voice and it's just I don't know, it feels kind of dreamy, but I like it. A lot," bobbing her head to the beat of the song, Taeyong was ecstatic on the fact she approved his choice.
As the song slowly came to a stop, she pulled over in front of the shop, thankful that there was an empty slot, again. Somehow she always has the luck to find parking in front of the shop. Pushing the button once again, the engine revved down, taking the ice-cream, she went out of the car, same with Taeyong.
Leaning against the car, facing towards the shop, under the shade of a young tree, she continued to eat the slightly melted ice-cream, "Do you think they've arrived?" Taeyong snapped towards Nari, "I'll head inside and see if they're inside."
"Thank you, Taeyong!" in a sing-a-song tone, she thanked him. "If Hyebin and Jinho are inside, just tell them to come out," making him quickly asked, "You don't want to come in if they're inside?"
"I'll just wait outside," staggering in her reply, her mind wanting so badly to avoid Yuta and not wanting to make an embarrassment of herself. "Alright then," nodded, he went inside. Staring at the ice-cream, a soft smile came on her face and the light breeze of the evening made some strands of hair cover her face before she could take another spoonful of ice-cream.
Brushing aside the strands, she joyfully eat the ice-cream. Finishing it to the last spoonful, she threw the cup to a nearby trashcan and at the same moment, Hyebin and Jinho came out.
"Looks like the both of you have been enjoying yourself a bit too much today," Nari spoke with a playfully sarcastic tone. "We're sorry," Hyebin replied as she pouted slightly, knowing Nari well enough that the elder would easily give in with her cuteness.
"There, there. Get in, let's go back, I just hope you'll sleep well after going for ice-cream with your crush," ruffling Hyebin's hair, Nari went to the driver's side and quickly got in the car.
The youngers followed and after Hyebin buckled her seatbelt, she let an 'ah' of realization. Handing a small cake box to Nari, "This is for you, Taeyong told me to give this to you."
The younger smirked at the older at the name, Taeyong. "Stop it or I won't send you again and you'll have to take the bus with Jinho next time," her eyes widen towards the younger, threatening with playfulness. "Oh, please don't. I'm find with bus to school, but going out, no. Nope. Hyebin can take it alone, not me!" her hands rapidly shaking in denial.
Chuckling, Nari told Hyebin to hold it throughout the drive back. Before driving away, Nari managed to glance for a quick second to the shop. She wasn't sure what she saw, but throughout the drive, the image of Taeyong was vivid in her mind.
"So, I heard someone had fun on an ice-cream date with Nari."
