Chapter Nineteen

                                                                             Six Months Later

There was snow falling lightly from the gray colored sky when Tori decided to make the trip to the cabin. She sat in her jeep working up the courage to actually walk in. Scott's father had turned the deed to the cabin over to her shortly after the funeral, he said that Scott was going to change the name as wedding gift to her. After six months, Tori finally felt ready to go back there. The boat was gone, as Scott's mother took it when she left town for the last and final time, but his truck was just where they had parked it before going out that fateful night. They all still hung out together. The guys stilled picked Tori up for school, hung out at Tori house, or just drove around. Tori always declined going to the pool hall, and none of them had been to the cabin since the night of Scott's funeral. Tori had made many trips to Scott's grave, just to talk and to be close to him. But she could never bring herself to go to the cabin, till that morning.

When she walked into the cabin, she just stood at the doorway, waiting for him to walk out of the bedroom. After just standing there for minutes, she shut the door and took off her jacket. She then went to the fireplace and picked up their Prom picture and sat on the couch. She thought about the past year, trying not to think about all the loss she had gone through, but remembering the good times. She headed to the bedroom and opened the dresser drawers and saw all the clothes that he had left behind, grabbing one of his hoodies and putting it on. She took a deep breath, even after six months, it still smelled like him. Feeling as if he was not really gone, she walked around the small cabin. Remembering last Christmas, she went searching for the decorations that the guys had gotten. Grabbing the small Rubbermaid container, she sat in the middle of the living room picking up each decoration. When she got to the figurine of Peter Pan and Wendy, her tears start to fall freely, she didn't even try to wipe them away.

"What the fuck are you doing here?" Cain demanded interrupting her thoughts.

"What does it look like I am doing?" Tori shot back wiping away her tears. He still knew how to push her buttons.

"It looks like you are trying to figure out what to get rid of," Cain said as he glared at her.

"Whatever, Cain," Tori said as opened her bottle of Fireball. "You are not the only one that is still hurting or still misses him."

"Scott's father said that you were here and the place belongs to you now," Cain said as he grabbed a beer from the fridge. "What are you going to do with this place?"

"Leave it as is," Tori said as she took a sip from the bottle. "This is Scott's cabin, I can't change it. It's the lost boys' hide-out, how can I change that?"

"You can do anything you want," Cain said glaring at her from behind his sunglasses. "This is your place, not ours."

"If you came up here to pick a fight, please leave."

"Your right," he said quietly as he walked to the fire place. "I'm sorry."

Cain turned towards the mantle and looked at the picture from Halloween. He grabbed the picture and sat down on the couch.

"Remember this?" Cain asked her as he handed her the picture.

"Yep, God we were so stupid that night," Tori said with a small smile. "We dressed up just to come here and drink by the fire pit."

"Hell, Scott was so wasted that he couldn't even start the fire," Cain said laughing. "Lance was convinced that the wood was burning on the inside and not the outside."

"Remember that Justin had to hide the lighter fluid from them," Tori laughed as she sat next to him.

"We were all wasted that night," he said as he looked at her and started to stand up. "Hey want a beer?"

"Sure, thank you," Tori answered as she drank the last bit of the Fireball she had.

So, what are you thing of doing with all this stuff?" Cain asked as he handed her a beer.

"I'm thinking of putting up a tree and stuff," she said looking at the boxes. "Maybe see if the guys wanted to come over and get together and help."

"I think that is a great idea," Cain said as he watched the flames whipping around the logs. "All of us should go and pick out a tree."

Within the hour, the cabin was filled with everybody. They had Falling in Reverse blaring from the speakers and fresh beers in their hands. Once Cain had the tree up, Tori opened the box and handed them all decorations. They decorated the tree in silence with only few looks at each other. After the tree was decorated, Cain plugged in the lights and the backed away and just they all looked at the tree. Cain looked over at Tori and saw the tears in her eyes. He pulled her into a hug and she held on to him. All the guys came around Tori in an awkward group hug type of thing. After a while Lance lit up the fire pit and Justin got out a brown bag with everything to make s'mores.

"Here's to new traditions and old friends," Chase said as he raised his s'more in the air and smiled at the Tori.

"Here, here!" Cain called out and reached for Tori's hand.

After the guys left, Tori was there with just Cain. As Tori started cleaning up the mess outside, Cain was putting the fire out. After they were done, they went inside and sat on the couch.

"It's just not fair," Tori said looking at the tree as a tear feel down her check. "He should have never died. I still don't understand it all."

"I wish that I could explain it to you," Cain whispered so softly that Tori didn't hear him, and then a bit louder he said, "You're going to be okay. We're all going to be okay. And that is a promise I can keep."

"You promise?" She asked in a child-like voice as she looked up at him.

"Always, Doll," He said as he looked her while he handed her another beer. After a while both were on the drunken side of the bottles but they were still opening cold ones.

"I just miss him so much," Tori told him. "Do you know that this is the first time that I have been here since that night we all were here last."

"Really, I thought that once you got the deed, you would be here all the time," Cain said without sarcasm in his voice.

"Nope, I couldn't do it before today. I would drive up here, and sit in the driveway. But then I would just turn around," Tori told him as she chugged the last of the beer in the can before opening another. "I just wish that I could understand what happened and why Scott was the one that died."

"Oh God, Tor, it was my fault," Cain said as he looked at her.

"What do you mean?" She asked as she backed away from him a little and wiped a stray tear from her eye.

"I guess you are going to hear it when we go to court," Cain said as he opened his beer. "So, it will be better if you hear it from me first, I guess."

"Cain?" Tori said with a look of confusion.

"You know Amber-Lynn was with Scott for a while," Cain started nervously. "He called thing off with her years before he met you. Her father is the owner of one of the bars near the county line, so he has money coming in and Amber-Lynn is a spoiled brat."

"She that 'rich bitch' that you all were fighting about that one night," Tori stated, not needing to ask if it was true.

"Yeah, she is," Cain admitted freely while looking out the window to the lake. "The first time we slept together was the day you thought you were pregnant. I was so mad at Scott, I told him that he had the most prefect girl and was about to have the prefect little family. I guess you could say I was jealous of him, so seeing as I couldn't have you, I found someone almost like you. Or so I thought. We both, Amber-Lynn and I, decided that would be a one-time thing, she wanted Scott to feel something for her. But he was so totally into you, she could have walked naked on water, and he wouldn't have cared or even notice. So, I figured that I could have the next best thing, I mean, compared to you and Scott. So, I asked her to prom, knowing what I was planning, she said yes. Well, she thought it meant more than it really was. Well, when she figured it out, she went to her bother and told him how I had used her."

"What did she figure out?" Tori asked with fresh tears in her eyes.

"She figured out that I would never have the same feelings for her that I have for you," Cain said with sadness in his eyes. "Scott was in the wrong place at the wrong time, he aimed at you because Amber-Lynn was jealous that not only that you held Scott's heart, but you had mine too.

Tori took a swing at Cain, but missed and fell off the couch.

"Are you okay?" Cain asked trying to get closer to her.

"You bastard!" Tori yelled as she tried to hit him again. "You killed him!"

"Tori, please," Cain begged as he held her, taking her hits to his chest. "I'm so sorry, I would never hurt you on purpose, ever. I promise."

After a few more weak hits, Tori collapsed in his arms. They sank to the floor where he rocked her and rub her back. As she broke down in quiet sobs he whispered in her ear. After a while he placed his chin on her head with a tear falling down his cheek. She finally looked up at him and just gazed into his eyes. He leaned down and gave her a soft kiss on her lips. She kissed him back, but with long, heavy, needy kisses. Once she opened her eyes and remember she was with Cain she took a step back.

"I think I need another drink," Cain said trying to ease the tension. "Would you like one, too?"

She just nodded her head in response. He came back with two Jack and Cokes.

Tori woke up with a beam of sunlight glaring in her eyes. As she tried to sit up, she realized that she was pinned down on the couch by a bare arm. She opened her eyes in surprise and looked around to find her clothes thrown on the floor and Cain lying next to her.

"Cain," she whispered as she nudged him awake.

"What?" Cain said without opening his eyes.

"What happened last night?" She asked him in a whisper.

"What?" He asked again.

"What did we do?" She asked a bit louder.
