The quiet melody of a piano woke Carter up. Her eyes slowly fluttered open, adjusting to their dimly lit room.

Napa-upo siya nang mas klarong marinig ang kanta. Sleepily rubbing her eyes, Carter found Rook in the living room, sitting in front of the piano. Beyond the glass window, the busy city lights flickered under a cloudy night sky.

Nilapitan ni Carter ang asawa. She hugged the comforter tighter as she carefully sat beside him, intently listening to the tune he was playing.

They remained quiet until Rook softly played a note then leaned his head on her.

"I'm okay, Carter."

"Mm."

"May problema lang kanina sa trabaho and... it's Reina's..."

"Mm," she hummed back.

Reina died seven years ago but the wound she left behind still seemed fresh. As the only princess of the Fuentavedras, this day of the year was always the most painful for them.

Carter's phone vibrated and Natalie's contact popped up, indicating that she messaged her.

"Nagra-rant na naman siguro si fairy godmother, bossmam," ani Rook na tinawag na siya sa paboritong nickname nito.

Carter weakly smiled. "It's that time of the year," she reached out to hold Rook's hand. "You can rant to me, too. Tungkol sa nangyari sa'yo sa trabaho o kung anong gusto mong sabihin."

She got startled when he laughed. Magtatanong na sana siya kung may nakakatawa ba sa sinabi niya nang halikan siya sa ulo.

Rook lightly chuckled, "Bossmam, ang swerte ko talaga sa'yo. Huwag mo 'kong iwan, ha?"

"Hindi na ako makakaalis. Nakulam mo na ako."

He barked a laugh. "Buti at sobrang lakas pala no'ng potion."

Carter playfully rolled her eyes. She tried playing the song that Rook taught her last week. Hinayaan siya ng lalaki. Naging komportable na ito sa balikat niya.

"Bossmam, magra-rant ako ha."

"Mm."

"Kasi kanina, nagkaroon kami ng board meeting at naalala mo 'yong aroganteng lalaki na sinabi ko sa'yo last week..."

The sound of the piano and Rook's rants filled the house, eventually waking Felix and Kevin who went to accompany them. Then, as the cats jumped to lay on the piano keys, their heartfelt laugh resonated around the room.

Carter glanced at Rook, smiling as she leaned on his shoulder.

He interlaced their hands together, smiling back.

Hello! This chapter is just my excuse to write a piano/comfort scene for Carter and Rook, tapos para din makausap ko kayo tungkol dito sa libro!

Honestly, nagulat na lang ako nang magpakilala ang dalawang 'to sa isip ko. I've always been interested in stories with these kind of format. Nasubukan ko na 'to before pero no'ng nastress ako last year and found comfort sa I've Got Your Number ni Sophie Kinsella, nagustuhan ko ding gumawa. And I really, really wanna write Carter kasi girl crush ko siya!

Anyway, this is my first time completing a teen fiction/romance/chicklit book na happy ending, kaya as you can see, may pagkabobo ako. I'm thankful that Rook is a straightforward crackhead kaya light book ito. 'Yong problema kasi ni Rook nangyari na before sila nagmeet, kaya focused lang siya sa healing ni Carter.
