Idk. May naclick lang ako tas nabasa mura mo kaya nagtanong ako. I wasn't planning on chatting for long.

rookiemoonster
ah
u doin something?
or about to sleep?

Carter
Whenever you see someone confidently discussing a topic they have limited knowledge about, do you ever get irritated?

rookiemoonster
hm
i think i have that similar situation before
i have this classmate
class president siya namin
and he's a very proud man
like when i hear pride and arrogance, siya na agad naiisip ko
anw he believes himself to be better and smarter than anyone else
tuloy this competition
he was teamed up with the top student
and well u know he was more known, popular, kilala
and the way he talks, it was with confidence
kaya kahit alam ni top student na mali ang sinasagot at ini explain niya, no one really did notice

Carter
The student never corrected him?

rookiemoonster
idkk
parang hindi naman
basta natalo sila dun
ig that guy also hates the president so he didnt bother correcting
hinayaan niya na lang siguro na lesson learned
why did u ask?

Carter
Something I was watching about.

Amazing how this happens on a daily basis, 'no? Sometimes even unconsciously. We overestimate our skills and knowledge. Minsan nga naiisip nating mas better pa tayo sa iba.

rookiemoonster
yeah
but mostly i believe its our competitive self
our survival instincts supports that aspect of us ig
kasi survival and competition kinda goes together lang naman
in any situation, may it be social gatherings or a small get together, there's always this tiny competition that we unconsciously make with ourselves and others
it feeds our egos na lang rin siguro

Carter
What's interesting is that this happens both ways. People who overestimate themselves often finds a disappointing result, while those who feel like they're average and below are actually most likely to succeed.

rookiemoonster
😆😆😆
so is the take on that to just dont assume at all?

Carter
I believe it's rather on self-awareness. The tendency for this cases usually stems from low self-esteem and pride. I think the problem mostly is that they lack realization... of their own capabilities, in this case.

rookiemoonster
tama ka
gaya ng mga cheater diyan na hindi pa rin nare-realize kung gaano kasama ginagawa nila
altho
these people are probably too afraid to ask for advice too, 'no?
not because they fear interacting, but they refuse to be seen as less smart

Carter
Exactly! It just presents us this chance to take a step back and judge our previous conclusions, then work on it. A matter of self-realization and reflecting is enough. After all, there's nothing wrong with admitting you know less.

rookiemoonster
for people who know less, it's better they ask questions, right?

Carter
That would be ideal. It will expand their knowledge, build relationships, and a way to avoid this form of bias.

rookiemoonster
so since wala ako masyadong alam sayo
okay lang din na magtanong
sabi mo ha

Carter
Wala ka talagang lusot, ano?

rookiemoonster
grab the opportunity when u see it nga, carter
after all
asking questions would not only expand my knowledge about you, improve our relationship, but i can self-reflect

Carter
Smartass.

rookiemoonster
top student to 😙
