~YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED~
Once they had reached James' front porch, James stopped and looked up at Thomas.
"C-Can you stay i-in the kitchen? I-I don't want you t-to get hurt..." James looked back down at his feet. Thomas was momentarily stunned, what did he say? He wanted to be there for James, yet he understood why he was worried.
"Ok... but if they start getting hostile or hurt you, I'm coming out." Thomas hooked one of his fingers under James' chin and forced his head up to meet his eyes.
"Ok?" Thomas could see the fear in his eyes. James nodded and turned back toward the door, ready to faces his parents. The couple quietly stepped into the house and James motioned Thomas towards the kitchen while he headed towards the living room. Thomas nodded hesitantly and gave James a quick kiss before headed to the kitchen.
James weighed his options. He could either run, very noisily, to his room and grab his things and leave. Or, he could try to sneak past them, quietly, and try to get to his room. The thing is, if they did see him, that's most likely bad news. James considered it, and chose option two.
He peeked his head around the corner of the wall to see his parents watching TV. He took a shaky breath and started his silent trek to his bedroom. He's done this a million times before, only when his parents are asleep. 'Stay close to the furniture' James reminded himself, 'The floor is more settled there, it won't make to much noise.' Just as he was about to get to the hallway that lead to his room, "James," a very firm and assertive cut through the silence. James winced and turned around to see his parents hovering behind him. He stayed silent.
What James did not know is, Thomas was peaking around the corner, perfectly ready to run to him if his parents got hostile.
"Where ya been James?" His father's voice was threatening and loud.
"A-At a f-friends h-house." James said, as he tried to shrink in on himself. A smack came down on his face with an evil hiss.
"You don't have any friends!" His father spat at him. James trembled and clutched his cheek. Thomas stepped out from behind the corner slightly, but still stayed hidden. James stared at his shoes, not wanting to look either of his parents in the eye.
"Your mother was looking through Facebook and found an interesting article about two young boys." James' father continued, "It's about two young boys who came out to their whole school as queer, only it was on a karaoke stage. And right before that. one had sang to the other. Ring a bell?" James' fathers voice was cold and threatening. James shook, they had found out.
Another slap, "I ASKED YOU A QUESTION!" Thomas stepped out farther.
"Do you understand?! You are unnatural and a disgrace! You fucking fag! We do not tolerate homos in this household!" James started crying, and Thomas finally came out, angrily walking over towards them. James saw this and discreetly motioned for him to stop and wait. Thomas stopped right behind his parents and patiently waited, arms crossed.
"I want you to break up with this boy and you are never to see him again! In fact! You are grounded and are only allowed to leave this house for school. Understood?" James looked up in horror and had a sudden surge of confidence.
"N-No" James said firmly. His father and mother seemed taken aback.
"What did you say you little shit?"
"T-Thomas has made me the happiest I-I have been in a l-long time. I-I'm n-not b-breaking up with h-him." James stated as firmly as he could. His fathers jaw tightened, he curled his hand into a fist and reared it back to hit James. Thomas seized this opportunity and grabbed his elbow, turning him around to face him. James' father didn't even have time to process what happened before Thomas punched him in the jaw, knocking him onto the ground. James' mother rushed over to him, checking his jaw for injuries. Thomas shook his hand a bit and walked up to James.
"Come on James, let's go get your stuff and leave." Thomas wrapped his arm around James' waist and lead him down the hall. James walked into his room and collected his, few, items. As he was packing, he suppressed the tears that threatened to fall from his eyes. Thomas stood by the door and watched in case James' parents tried to come into his room. Once James was packed up, they both headed out and saw James' father sitting on the couch holding his jaw. James' mother was sitting next to him with and icepack, glaring at the both of them. James felt tears prick his eyes but managed to keep them under control. They quickly left that house and started heading to Thomas' house, their home.
