Chapter 4: Don't Laugh With Me

"So...."

"Keep quiet! I am trying to think how did this happen to me?" I groan pulling my hair.

"Okay.." Julian mumbles flipping through his book. I clench my jaws in irritation. He and I were in detention. My problem was that only Julian and I were in detention. The teacher was snoozing, our voices not even bothering her.

"What are you here for?" I ask unable to stop myself.

Julian first glances at me, as if analyzing whether I was worth an answer or not. "I was flipping teacher the bird but he turned around last moment," he mutters.

"Rookie," I chuckle.

"What are you here for Mr. I-am-such-a-Pro-I-never-get-detention?" he asks sarcastically.

"Not doing my homework," I shrug. Well many kids didn't do their homework but my Literature teacher had a special hatred for me.

"You got detention for not doing homework, that's ridiculous" Julian scoffs.

"No, I have a talent of annoying my Literature teacher even by breathing air. If it was up to her she'll have me hanging to a spear every class," I mutter. Something about the mental image of me hanging in the air by a spear had us both laughing.

"Don't laugh with me," I say to Julian suddenly.

"Oh for the love of God.." he rolls his eyes and shifts to face the other way. He made no further move to talk so I close my eyes for a nap.

"Times over," Julian hits my shoulder with his bag. "Wake up grandpa."

I rub my eyes sitting up, classroom was empty and the school was eerily quiet. I jog out to catch Julian.

"Hey, did the teacher say something? She was supposed to give me a note," I ask Julian.

"I don't know about a note but she did ask me to tell you this, 'Stay away from Julian jackass'," he snaps.

"Woah," I grab his elbow. "What are you doing?"

"Leave me Dylan, you don't own this school," he tries to shake my arm. My grip tightens as I step closer to him smirking, "Think again sweetheart. I do own this school. You are the new kid here."

Julian blinks for a second then rolls his eyes. "You are right," he admits. "Whatever, now let me go you rotten fish."

"Careful Julian, I'll hurt you," I warn pushing him against the wall. He winces.

"No you won't," Julian sighs. "Dylan why are you doing this? I have seen and dealt with bullies all my fucking life. They have this hatred in their eyes, and your eyes are kind and lovely. You are definitely not a bully. And neither do you want to hurt me," he pushes me away. I stumble back little shocked because he was right.

"I'm sorry," I mumble quickly walking away, my mind a complete mess.

"Hey! Wait where you going?" Julian stops me by blocking my way.

"I said I am fucking sorry," I snap irritated. "What more do you want? I won't bother you again, nor will I talk to you. I don't know what came over me alright! There you go, that's the best I can apologize," I grit out trying to push past him.

"No you idiot," Julian stops me by holding my shoulders. He was smiling. "Saying sorry was enough. I am asking are you alright? You look so disturbed. I have a wide range of life experiences, so you can share your problems with me. I may look stupid but I got an ass full of wisdom," he grins brushing back his hair.

I don't know, something about the way he spoke and carried himself made me feel jealous. He had an unusual charm and goofiness around him, that made me feel happy.

"I don't know what my problem is?" I shake my head. Julian squints his eyes looking at me intently. I gulp and step back.

"I think I understand your problem," he says with a sly smile. "You have a crush on me."

My eyebrows disappear in my hairline. "What?!"

"That's why you are so flustered and snappy around me," he shrugs.

"You don't realize that might be because of genuine dislike and loathing?" I ask incredulous.

"Naw, I am very lovable. It's hard to hate me," he cheekily grins.

"You are delusional," I laugh patting his shoulder.

"Dylan, it's okay. You are not the first one. I don't blame you. I blame my gorgeous looks," Julian says sympathetically.

"I'm sorry I can't hear you nor see you over your bursting ego," I mutter walking away. Julian immediately falls in step with me.

"If you would just think for a moment-"

"I did. And I realized how fast a person's mind can run and make up stuff," I stuff my hands in my pocket.

"Fine, if you are going to act like this-"

"I am not acting," I point out.

"If you are going to be like this, I will pretend I don't know anything," Julian offers.

"There's nothing to know about," I crack my knuckles.

"Right," Julian agrees. "I'll be this way," he points down the road.

"Where are you going?" I frown. "The boys will meet here in five minute. Hang out with us," I offer.

"Okay," he smiles at me. I clench my hands in my pocket to keep them from pinching his cheeks. I felt like a complete idiot cause I voluntarily invited this boy to ruin my entire evening because I everytime I did anything I ended up watching him.

"Thanks for letting me hang out with you boys," Julian says as we walk towards his house. As if a whole evening of torture wasn't enough for me, I had offered to walk him to his house.

"No worries, they don't mind. Besides you are a decent human," I kick a stone, my hands getting sweaty in my pockets. I didn't dare to take them out, because I know they will attach themselves to Julian's hands the second they are free.

"Yes, they are pretty cool. And they didn't even notice if I was gay or not," he sighs happily.

"Why would they?" I frown at him.

"I mean, I thought they were your friends so they might..." he trails off nervously.

I curse under my breath. "Julian I have no problem with you being gay I swear. I just reacted stupidly, and I regret it every second."

"It's okay, I know you are okay," he playfully bumps his shoulder with me, making me smile.

"There it is," Julian grins as we stop in front of his building. "Your smile. It's very adorable," he coos. I look away feeling embarrassed. Normally I accept every compliment a girl showers head on, but his felt personal. Julian chuckles on seeing my state.

"So cute. Now you can totally blame this on gay people, because we tend to be a little aggressive lot," he says teasingly making me look at him confused. To my disbelief, he steps closer and presses his soft lips to my cheek. I look at him shocked as he winks and turns to go.

"Oh no, you fucking don't," I growl and grab his wrist crashing his body into me and pressing my lips over his.
