- 2 Months Earlier: Maya's 16th Birthday –

I woke up and frowned. Today is my 16th birthday and something inside me is telling me that something was going to happen today. I got out of bed and got dressed before I went into the kitchen and saw that my mom was already at work. I sighed and went to school to see my best friend Riley there with our friends Farkle, Lucas, Zay and Smackle. I smiled at them and they smiled back before Riley said, "Happy birthday."

     I said, "Thanks, Riles. At least someone remembered today was my birthday."

     Farkle said, "She didn't."

     I said, "She was gone before I was even up and dressed for school."

     He sighed and said, "I'm sorry."

- After School –

     I walked inside my apartment to see my mom there with two men. I asked, "Who are they?"

     Mom said, "Maya, meet your biological father Billy Black and his son Jacob. Jacob is only a week younger than you."

     I looked at Mom and asked, "You had an affair with a married man?"

     She said, "Yes, but it gave me you. We were in love sweetheart."

     I sighed and then I looked at Jacob and noticed that we were about the same height. I had gotten a growth spurt suddenly. I was 5'0 and now I'm 5'10 almost 5'11. I smiled at him and said, "Hey. I've always wanted a brother."

     He said coldly, "You're not my sister and you never will be. You're just the bastard child that my father had with some slutty waitress."

     I felt myself start shaking and I said, "Don't you dare talk about my mother like that you little shit. I'll kick your ass. Do you understand me?"

     He sneered at me and said, "Not my fault your mother opens her legs for married men."

     I lunged for him and mid lunge I turned into a giant snow white wolf. I landed on all fours and I snarled at him. He turned into a giant russet colored wolf and snarled back before we started fighting. My mother yelled, "MAYA! JACOB! STOP IT! NOW!"

     We stopped and suddenly we turned back human. Jacob was naked and I was fully clothed for some reason. I raised an eyebrow and the man named Billy said, "You've got the gene and you're the rightful Alpha of the pack. We came to find you and bring you and your mother to our native American reservation, so you can know your other half."

     I looked at him and then I looked at mom and asked, "Are you okay with this? I'll only go if you are okay with going."

     She nodded and said, "You need to know your Native American roots, sweetie."

     I nodded and then I said, "I'll tell Riley, Farkle, Lucas, Zay and Smackle about it tomorrow. When are we leaving?"

     She said, "Tonight. Go pack a bag and then we are going to stay there for a week and then we can come back and get the rest of our stuff."

     I nodded and asked, "Where are we going?"

      Billy said, "Forks, Washington."

      I looked at him and asked, "Washington? As in Washington State? As in all the way on the other side of the country?"

      He nodded and then I groaned before I went and packed up a bag.
