Zack looked at the papers that were given to him, remembering the conversation.

There is someone who is looking to adopt her, but you two have a decision to make. If you want to keep her, you can adopt her. I will leave you two to it.

Warren wasn't home from patrol yet, and Zack wasn't very good at making decisions like this on his own. So he waited, all night until three in the morning.

Warren came in, tired but on guard, because sometimes his students would set up pranks for each other and accidentally get him.

He was very surprised to see his husband waiting for him, awake, in the common room.

"... Hey..." Warren was very on guard now.

"Hi, Warren! I was about to fall asleep there."

"Why didn't you? It's three in the morning."

"Well, when you left for patrol, a police dude came, and he was talking about either us adopting May or someone else adopt-"

"We're adopting her. She's been through enough. Besides, Lyra told me when she captured me there were multiple people, looking for her as a guinea pig. I don't want to put her in the hands of someone who will be unable to protect her."

"So... We're signing the papers?"

"We're signing the papers."

The two signed the adoption papers.

Warren sighed. "So... Did anyone question May yet? We need to see if it was only her parents or if there were other people involved, and I'm not comfortable interrogating her."

Zack thought for a minute. "It's been a couple weeks, and they haven't yet. I guess they're waiting for the okay from us."

Warren sighed. "We'll do it tomorrow. I'm tired."

Warren started leaning toward the couch.

"Warren, no DON'T-"

Warren landed on Zack with a quiet "oof". Zack tried to get free so he could carry Warren to an actual bed, but eventually gave up. "How're you so heavy?"

All he got in reply was a quiet breath and a sleeping Warren.

Sighing, he got comfortable. The next morning, they would tell the good and bad news to their child, but for now, it was time for rest.

Warren may be a new dad, but he still has to do patrol. He is a hero, after all.
