Chapter VIII (Part I)
Hey Guys! I'm really sorry for the late update. I promise I won't make you wait this long for the the next update. College sucks so much. I actually thought I had published the chapter a while back but then I stupidly realised that it was still a draft... -_- So I decided to make the chapter longer than it was supposed to be :) (Please tell me if it seems a bit awkward at any point since it is not proof read)
RECAP: Adrian and Courtney come to Addison's school for their talk show event and meet and greet.
Chapter VIII (Part I)
You know that moment in your life when you are about to experience something magical, where you imagine everything going in slo-mo like the movies? Where you imagine background music playing and your heart fluttering when you look ahead? Where you feel everything else fade into nothingness?
Yeah, none of that happened when I looked at Adrian and Courtney exiting the car. I guess thats why movies were popular. They made you experience thing that were no way going to happen in reality but were fun to watch even when the audience is well aware of that fact.
No matter how relatable movies are, the fact remains the same. They are made with the fantasies of all the people in the world. Movies and TV shows were a way of showing people that what they read in books could easily be imagined even with reality constantly poking our mind. There are so many visually mesmerising movies like Transformers, or our classic Spiderman or any other super hero movie in that case, that has opened our minds into welcoming anything other than the things we are used to.
Maybe thats one of the reasons why I want to be a part of this industry. I loved how you could take form of a character so different than yourself or any one else and give the audience watching you a wonderful experience.
Coming back to the present, I watched as two heavily built bodyguards got out of another car and escorted both Adrian and Courtney to the door. Adrian looked drool worthy even in his simple attire of dark washed jeans, a white t-shirt and a navy blue open-zipped hoodie. Courtney also looked really pretty in her white shirt tucked into light blue skinny jeans that hugged her legs perfectly and nude heels.
Acting aside, she definitely knew how to carry herself especially with her style. Then there was me, in my Scooby Doo pyjamas.
Both of them approached the door where I was standing. There was no other film crew at all with them, which actually kind of disappointed me since I really wanted to properly meet Mr. Gilbert.
"Why is there no crowd here to welcome us?" Courtney asked, eyeing the area around her. Meanwhile Adrian tapped away on his phone, a small frown resting on his face.
"You should feel lucky that there is no one here, or you would've been trampled and your bodyguards wouldn't have been able to save you," I replied before nodding at Brandon, motioning for him to get ready.
"Hey. Aren't you the girl from yesterday?" Courtney asked, making my eyes slightly widen.
At this, even Adrian looked up, his expression giving nothing away other than a hint of surprise.
"Uh, yeah. I am," I awkwardly said. "Anyways, here is the plan of the live show and here on the bottom right of the page is your cue to enter, which is right after Adrian is introduced," I said handing Courtney her copy of the schedule.
She took the sheet from me and examined it. "What about Adrian's schedule?"
"I have it with me. His entry will be before you and is going to be a little different than yours so I'll explain the rest as we go towards the assigned places. This is Sydney, she will guide you through the events," I motioned for Sydney to come forward.
"Hey, I'm Sydney. And as Addison said, I'll be in charge of your schedule for the meeting today," she said with a bright smile.
Courtney eyed her up and down before rolling her eyes. "Whatever. Is there any place where I can re touch my makeup?"
"Well, we have prepared a temporary green room for you. If you would please follow me," she said and started to move.
Courtney turned towards Adrian who had returned to his phone. "See you later babe," she gave a flying kiss to him which he didn't even acknowledge and sauntered off behind Sydney.
I turned towards Adrian, who didn't make a single move to say or do anything, making me awkwardly stand there. After a minute of absolute silence, I cleared my throat. He averted his eyes from the phone and looked at me with a raised eye brow.
"Um, are you planning to stand there all day?" I asked, feeling a little awkward.
I saw amusement in his features as he pocketed his phone and looked at me expectantly, not saying anything.
"Oh-kay," I stretched out as he didn't say a word. I could clearly see that he was amused by my awkwardness and was deliberately not saying anything to annoy the hell out of me.
I refused to fall into his trap so, putting on a professional front, I cleared my throat once again before producing the sheet with his schedule on it. "This is the order of events that will take place. There's a half an hour break in between, after the performance of the dance club where you can rest or do whatever you want and there is a fifteen minute meet and greet with your lovely fans where you can sign autographs for them or meet them and stuff," I explained, pointing towards the sheet.
He scanned the paper and nodded.
I raised an eyebrow in return.
He rolled his eyes. "Lead the way," he said.
I grumbled something under my breath before walking towards his green room.
****
"Okay, so you guys have to make sure that no one can sneak through the stage entrances. If you do let anyone through, even if its by accident or because of immense fangirl strength, coach will personally be whooping your asses. Am I clear?" I asked as I instruct the jocks who nodded.
Checking the stage positions and the set up once again, I started my way towards Adrian's green room when I was intercepted by none other than my darling rival.
"What do you want?" I asked Lindsay who had her arms crossed and eyes narrowed.
"It's funny how I was waiting where you told me to and I didn't see Adrian come through that way at all. And that's when someone told me that he was already in his green room," she said, glaring at me.
"So tell me, which one of the twenty girls standing with you at that entrance told you about him already being in his green room?" I asked, raising my eyebrow at her.
"Whatever. Anyways, you can see me work my magic when I perform later on. You won't be able to snatch him for yourself. I won't let you," she sneered and walked off but not before she shoved me to the side.
"And she wonders why I lie to her about these things," I muttered to myself as I rolled my eyes at her antics.
Lindsay was one of the people who couldn't keep things like these to themselves. Which is why I found more than twenty girls waiting at the entrance I'd lied to her about. And she wonders why I didn't tell her the truth.
"Hey, Addison!," I heard someone call out my name from behind me.
I turned around to see Josh, one of the anchors run towards me.
"You're in charge of Adrian, right?"
I nodded.
"Okay so tell him to come out in five minutes. We're starting off a bit early because the crowd is getting impatient by the second," he said, his eyes darting between the stage and the back stage, anxiously.
"Okay. When is his cue to come on stage?" I asked, just in case there were any changes.
"The moment I introduce him, I'll ask him myself to come onstage," he said.
I nodded. "Cool. I'll get him in time," I replied.
He gave me a grateful nod before rushing to get his last minutes mic checks. I turned around and jogged towards Adrian's green room. Upon reaching, I knocked on the door twice before opening and poking my head in through the space between the door and the wall.
Adrian sat on a chair, busy typing away on his phone. He looked up once he heard the sound of the door open.
I cleared my throat before entering the room. I walked towards him and sat down on the seat, three chairs away from him. "So, do you have any questions about the event or anything?" I asked, in an attempt to avoid sitting in awkward silence.
"This is not my first time doing something like this, you know. You don't need to ask me that every five minutes," he replied, amused.
I could feel the embarrassment seeping in as he laughed at my embarrassed face. "But this is the first time I'm doing this is stop laughing at me," I grumbled, looking away and scrutinising the wall as my cheeks reddened a little.
We stayed silent for a couple of seconds before he spoke up.
"Okay, tell me something," he said, making me look at him with slightly narrowed eyes, in case he decided to embarrass me more.
"What?"
"What were you doing at the haunted house so late at night?"
I gave him a flat look. "Is that what you wanted to ask?"
"Yep," he replied.
"Why do you want to know?"
"Just out of curiosity," she shrugged nonchalantly.
I paused for a moment, scrutinising his expression before speaking. "I lost a bet," I said after a few seconds.
"Go on," he said, clearly curious about my answer.
I thought of how to explain the whole bet thing. Coming up with no thoughts about where to start, I just randomly started, hoping it made sense after I attempted to explain. "Well, actually my best friend made a bet with me regarding the ending of a horror movie where we both predicted different ends. So the result of me losing the bet was a dare that was given by the best friend in question which is how I ended up in the mansion for the night," I rambled.
"So you were supposed to spend a night alone in that scary mansion because you lost a bet?"
I nodded.
"Well, I guess it turned out to be good for you since you got to meet the guy of your dreams," he smirked as he leaned back in his chair.
"I wasn't aware that Dylan O'Brian was shooting with you," I replied, putting on an innocent expression.
His smirk dropped and he gave me a flat look.
I grinned at him. "I'm sorry to inform you but getting to meet Mr. Gilbert sounds much more interesting than meeting you," I said, which to be honest was a tiny lie because Adrian was one of the actors I really admired but I was so not going to feed his ego by mentioning that.
He rolled his eyes,"Of course," he retorted but immediately his expression changed as if he just remembered something. "Hey I forgot to tell y-"
He got cut off when my phone started blaring.
"Hey Addison? Its almost time. Can you get Adrian backstage now?" It was Josh.
"Sure. We'll come right away," I answered.
"Oh and can you do me a favour? There's a guy waiting at the back door with some refreshments and all. Can you get them?"
"Of course."
"Thanks a lot," he said.
"No problem," I said before hanging up and turned to Adrian.
"You're up in two minutes. So let's go," I announced, looking at him expectantly.
He nodded and got up. I opened the door wide for him to pass. Once he was out, I led him to the auditorium backstage quickly before anyone loitering around spotted him and attracted attention. Once we reached the back stage, I sighed in relief, thanking the lord that there wasn't anyone who intercepted us on the way.
"Hey, listen, I was telling you-" Adrian started but was again cut off when Josh came hurriedly.
"I'll take Adrian. You go to the gate,"he said and I nodded and hurried to the back.
I quickly ran towards the back door to sort out whatever there was to sort out so that I could hurry back in case there was anything that I needed to do.
It took me a while to sort of the refreshments but once I was done with it, I went back to the back stage, just to check if everything was going on smoothly.
I peeked through the side of the stage to see the audience. And if I were to go by the screaming, hooting and completely awestruck faces of the students and some of the teachers, I'd say that Adrian had managed to capture everyone's attention really well. Courtney was doing good too. The drooling face of some guys was proof enough. The looks on the faces of the audience combined with their hooting, it dawned upon me how big of stars they actually were.
It's not like I didn't expect this or know about this. For a short moment there, while my brain was occupied with the not making mistakes, I had kind of forgotten that one of the biggest superstars were in my school. And I was in charge of one of them. You know the stupid realisation that we have when we think about whats happening and how big of a deal it actually can be? Yeah, that.
I felt a tiny bit proud since I knew how many people would kill to be in the position I was in.
As I turned my gaze to the stage again, it suddenly felt as if I was viewing Adrian and Courtney in a slightly different light. Now that I had given it some thought, I felt a little excited. I'm not sure if it was because the fast paced music that had begun in the background to introduce the dance team's performance or if I realised that this was once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I had to enjoy it to the fullest especially because Adrian Carter was in the top ten list of best actors that I'd created which was securely tucked into the pocket of my favourite jacket.
