Chapter I
"I'm going to be late. I'm going to be late. I'm going to be late! I CAN'T BE LATE!" I chanted as my sneakers squeaked against the white marble floor.
Almost there. I had survived a week now, I could do with one more day.
Now I just have to find a way to escape from Sneaky Steve and I'll be awesome to go.
Sneaky Steve was our hall monitor who took his duty way too seriously. Especially while giving detentions. He was pure evil and I swear I even heard that he started going off at a teacher for littering.
A small smile started to grace my face as I saw my homeroom on sight. If I managed to get in, I would be safe from getting any kind of punishment since our homeroom teacher Miss Simpson was quite laid back when it came to being late with a valid reason.
And I did have a valid reason. Well, sort of.
Waking my dad up in the morning was a job that couldn't possibly be accomplished by any other species except my mother.
Sometimes I suspected her of having some alien powers because even if hell was breaking loose, dad would be comfortably snoring in his bed.
Hell, last time I even pushed him off his cosy bed and he continued to sleep on the floor.
I shook my head as I continued my run for my homeroom. Just as I was about to reach for the door, fate turned upon me.
A very pimply face came right in front of mine. Sneaky Steve had a sly grin on his face as he fished for his detention pad from his pocket.
I groaned as I took a few steps back. I was almost there.
"So Addison, ready for your detention?" He asked.
I glared at him as he cheerfully scribbled down something on the link piece of paper.
I couldn't get detention. Henry would have my head. Literally.
I was the head of the drama department and Henry was our drama teacher. Yeah, we were on first name basis. But it wasn't because I was oh-so very special.
Henry was barely twenty three years old and he preferred being called by his first name. Though I did get to call him Henny which he said he despised (but I knew he secretly liked it)
"Sn- Steve? Isn't there any other way we can do this where I don't get detention?" I asked our beloved hall monitor who gave a dirty grin in return.
"Nope. But since you're the head of my favourite department, I'll give you a choice," he said, giving me hope.
I looked at him curiously.
"Lunch detention or after school detention?" He asked.
I groaned and slumped in defeat. "Steve, you know I can't afford a detention," I tried but he simply handed me a detention slip.
In our school, the Drama Club was quite popular. Mostly because we didn't always stick to classics and always added our modern twisted tales to it.
That was the best part. Every student could give innovative ideas to make the stage performances funny and entertaining. That's why everyt time during the showcase, we were always sold out.
Our school, Riverview High was quite known for its creative departments along with academics and the toughest competition within the school regarding the funding was faced by two departments; the Drama department and the Dance department.
Which could be the reason why Lindsay Carlton was my rival. Well, she was a bitchy one, anyway.
"Sorry, Addison, you might be a hot shot for your acting, but you can't be spared for that reason," he spoke and I glared at him.
"Fine. If you wa-AHH" I shrieked as the bell caught me by surprise.
Startled, I tripped on my feet and to prevent myself from falling, I accidentally pushed Steve who went down flailing.
I watched in horror has his papers went flying down, scattering away.
Now anytime, the students would come out for their first class. I quickly bent down to help Steve to pick up the papers.
While picking them up, I grabbed a photo of a dark blonde girl with olive skin and curly blonde hair. I recognised her as Becca. She was a junior and in my Drama Club.
I raised my eyebrows as I noticed small red hearts drawn on the corner. Looks like someone had a crush.
That's when an idea struck me. I hid my grin as I turned to face Sneaky Steve. It was slightly wrong but hey, I really wanted my head intact.
I quickly handed Steve back his papers as the students came bustling out. He was about to turn away but I stopped him.
"What?" He snapped.
I raised my hands in surrender before speaking. "Just wanted to know if you knew a girl with curly blonde hair. You know the one in the drama club?" I hinted, faking a confused expression.
The one plus point was that Becca was the only curly haired blonde in the drama club so it was easy to remember her.
And my plan seemed to be working since Steve's eyes widened a little. "What about Becca?"
"Oh yeah. Becca. Thanks Steve," I said and made a move to turn around.
"Hey, why did you want to know about her?" He asked curiously.
"And why should I tell you?" I asked, raising my eyebrow at him, my inward amusement increasing.
"Uh-I can give her your message, if you want?" He stuttered a bit.
"Oh well, It's just that she wanted the tickets to this time's Music Showcase. But sadly, they are sold out. I mean she would be so happy if someone did get her those," I simply stated with a sad sigh.
He seemed to be interested now.
I just had five minutes so I needed to hurry up. "Anyways, I'll see you later!"
"Hey, Addison! Wait!"
I grinned discreetly before covering it up. I faked an innocent expression as I faced him. "Are the tickets really sold out?"
"I can fish out a few but that would take some effort and I don't see an incentive so why should I?" I replied, nonchalantly.
To be honest, it wasn't all that difficult. I just had to ask Sydney since she was the head of the Music department.
"Um- can you get me two?"
I raised my eyebrow at him and waved the pink detention slip in his face. "Why would I put in an effort for you?" I glared at him.
He looked at me sheepishly and embarrassed. I looked at him indifferently for a moment and he surprised me by quickly snatching the detention slip out of my hand and tearing it.
I grinned at him, although I was a bit surprised.
"Don't tell anyone," he whispered and I made a motion to lock my lips.
"You'll get the tickets by tomorrow," I grinned and made my way to my locker.
It was time for my first period.

"Hey detention baby," I heard a very familiar voice accompanied by a very heavy weight across my shoulders.
"What do you want, Brandon? Do you not notice I'm on a date?" I asked him, pointing towards my food.
He simply rolled his eyes and kept his arm across my shoulder. "So, how does it feel like to have your first detention?"
"Who said I was having a detention?" I asked, raising a eyebrow.
"Oh come on. First of all you weren't there in the homeroom and second, I saw you talking to Sneaky Steve," he stated.
I smirked at him. "Well, for your kindest information, I don't have a detention."
His jaw dropped. "You're lying."
My smirk grew. "Am not."
"How the heck did you manage to dodge Sneaky Steve?" He asked, his jaw almost hitting the floor.
I grinned at him as I gave him a sealed lips look, much to the annoyance of my dear best friend.
"Come on! Tell me," he probed and I just grinned at his misery.
"Whatcha guys doing?" Sydney sat down with her tray of food.
Her dirty blonde hair were fading a bit, showing her clear brown roots. Her eyes sparkled in amusement as she watched us banter back and forth.
"Addison didn't get a detention from Sneaky Steve," he replied, barely picking his jaw up.
"Woah-hold up. You mean the Sneaky Steve aka the ruthless hall monitor aka Mr. No-Breaking-Rules?" She spoke in a disbelieving manner.
I smirked at both of my best friends.
"But how?" Sydney asked, now really interested.
I scooted away from Brandon, towards Syd. "Come here," I motioned for her to scoot closer so I could tell her. After all I couldn't have accomplished it if it weren't for her.
"Aw why does she get to know and not me?" Brandon whined from behind me.
Before j could speak up, Sydney spread her arm across my shoulder. "Because I'm better." She childishly stuck her tongue out at him who returned the favour.
"Anyways, so tell us Addie, are you ready for tomorrow's cuddle session with the Mr. Spooker?" Brandon teased, knowing fully well how terrified I was of him.
Stories stated that Mr. Spooker was the owner of that haunted house who in its well times was one of the biggest mansions in the neighbourhood. Rumours say that Mr. Spooker was deeply in love with his wife whom he found cheating with another man.
In the depth of betrayal, he stabbed both his wife and the man she was having an affair with, with a knife. But later on, he decided to end his life when he realised that he had killed the love of his life.
They say he hanged himself to death and the rope he used is still suspended from the roof of his room.
According to stories, everyday at night, his spirit still wanders with a knife, ready to kill any other couple which reminds him of his cheating wife.
Not that I had a boyfriend or anything, but the stories still held the power to scare the shit outta me.
"Shut up Donnie. Let me be at peace until I actually have to face the truth," I said, shuddering at the thought of spending a whole night at the spooky mansion.
"Oooh. You haven't called me Donnie since fifth grade," he teased and I glared at him.
I so wasn't looking forward to this. But little did I know that this would be the most surprising and chaotic life-turning event of my life.
