The Flower That Bloomed That Summer

(I KEEP ACCIDENTALLY WRITING THE ACTUAL CHARACTER'S NAMES INSTEAD OF THE RED QUEEN ONES GAH)

Final

"Let's talk to (Y/N) for real this time," Samson had said before wrapping his arm around Maven's shoulders. Tears were still drying on the Super Peace Busters' cheeks as they just got down discussing (Y/N)'s status. Samson, the most heartbroken, was ready to complete (Y/n) goal, "leader," he whispered to Maven.

"Because we all aren't the Super Peace Buster's without all six of us!" Kilorn enthused. They all looked at each other with the new information they enclosed in mind. Whether it was what they saw, or how they viewed each other. They were ready to help you move on for real.

When Maven ran into his house, yelling your name, what he saw wasn't what he expected. You were lying on the floor on your side with a smile on your face. "Welcome home," you spoke quietly.

"(Y/N), what's wrong?" Maven asks, pulling you into his lap. He looks down at your closed eyes, his hands shaking as he tries to figure out what is wrong.

"It seems like my wish..." you grab your wrist, bringing it to your chest, "has already been granted." Maven's eyes widen. His mind was racing. What did he do? What had happened?

"I remember... I have always felt left out," you explain. Maven thinks back. He would have never guessed. You always said you loved all of them, but if he thinks of it, everybody was in groups. Whether it was him, Kilorn, and Mare who'd always hang out or Samson and Iris, you never was left with a specific friend. "All I wanted was to be known as a member of the Super Peace Buster's. All six of us," you smiled. You explained more, but Maven wasn't listening. He was thinking about how you came back all this way just to feel apart of the group he thought you were happy in.

He sucks air through his teeth, trying to retain his tears. You open your eyes, looking up at him. You lift up a hand, placing your fingers into his hair.

"Maven is crying again..." You whisper. He avoids your eyes, trying not to seem weak to you. "I guess it's almost time to say goodbye," the skin on your hand goes transparent, and soon enough, so do your legs.

"Wait, you can't go yet!" Maven exclaims, grabbing your wrist. You widen your eyes. "You can't only say goodbye to me," he adds as he puts you against his chest, picking you up.

"I always wanted to see you, to call out your name, to tell you I was sorry, to tell you I loved you," he explains while not looking at you. He closes his eyes, trying not to let more tears out. You always wanted to hear those words. Ever since you were a child.

"But everyone feels the same way! They all love you, and they all miss you. We were going to go there tonight to all hang out once again, but I guess this'll be our last time." He adds, beginning to walk. You let out a breathe you didn't know you were holding in. Maven runs outside, where the brisk air runs against his skin. You can barely feel how cold it is. Maven runs all the way, carrying you like a bride.

He wanted to make your wish come true, but not this suddenly.

I love you, Maven...

He wants to be with you forever, to show you how much he loves you.

Thank you...

Maven slams the door open, grabbing everybody's attention. They're all sitting around a table, waiting for him to bring you. As he's about to speak, he feels you slipping from his arms. His first thought is that he dropped you, but he couldn't see you anymore. He frantically began looking around, screaming your name. But you just stood next to him, wondering why he couldn't see you anymore.

He looks all around, informing the others about your short disappearance. Tears began forming in your eyes. Is this how it'll be forever? You'll finally be gone? Will you be forced to watch Maven grow up, still stuck forever without him by your side? You cover your eyes with your hands, crying out.

"I wanna play hide and seek!" You yell. Maven looks up. He heard your voice. He still can't see you standing right in front of him.

"What do you mean hide and seek?" He asks, his voice panting.

"Is she playing hide and seek?" Kilorn asks, his body tense. Maven gasps, running out into the dark forest, yelling your name. "Wait up!" Mare yells at him. He doesn't stop. You just stand there, not wanting to see them anymore. Eventually, all the others run out with him. They leave you alone in the dark, quiet gloom.

"Not yet... not yet..." you whimper out, looking down at your hands. Almost completely gone. You can hear the blood-curdling screams out everybody in horror at the thought of you being gone.

They all run uphill, the sun just beginning to lighten the sky, yet still not visible. When Maven reaches the top, he rests on his knees, panting heavily. Kilorn is the first to catch up with him.

"Have you found her yet?" He asks. Maven doesn't answer. Kilorn looks down. Maven's feet are covered in blood and dirt, completely torn apart by the constant running. Maven didn't care. He loved you so much that he'd accepted the pain the entire time. Eventually, everybody reached the top, all silent as they watched the sun appear behind a beautiful big tree. A small tear fell down Iris's cheek, "is she gone?" She asks nobody.

"What's that?" Mare asks, walking over to the tree. There was a pile of five papers, all torn from (Y/N)'s diary.

To Iris

I love how gentle you are.

Iris thought about you in a way somebody would think about their sister. You were the only person who knew of her feelings for Samson. You would always try to help, not wanting to get involved whenever the two of them would hang out. Iris was always jealous of Mare and how easily she got along with Samson. You were the one that reminded Iris how beautiful she was. Iris wants you to go to Heaven so Mare can go with Maven, and she'd get Samson.

To Samson

I always loved how you worked so hard.

Samson thought about you in a way somebody would think about their childhood crush. Samson always trusted you and found you absolutely charming. He loved you more than he believed he did. He was always jealous of Maven and how much attention you gave him. And over all of these years, he still hasn't gotten over that. Samson wants you to go to Heaven so he can finally let go of his feelings towards you.

To Kilorn

I love how funny you are.

Kilorn is the saddest to see you go. Unlike the others, he trusted you more than he trusted himself. He loved to see you interact with the others. He was devastated when he saw you fall off the bridge. He feels guilty, like he could have done something. He always thought you couldn't go into Heaven because of his regret, but now he knows you forgave him for that day. Kilorn wants you to go to Heaven so you'll finally be happy knowing you had trusting friends.

To Mare

I love how you're always so level-headed

Mare thought about you as a rival, but she now regrets thinking about you that way. She has always had feelings for Maven, and seeing you with him scared her. She thought she was selfish for wanting you to go to Heaven. But now that it's happening, she doesn't want you to ever leave. Mare knows that you are the most beautiful and trusting person out there, she is devastated to see you go. She hopes you'll find happiness, even if it's not with Maven. Mare wants you to go to Heaven so Maven can finally have peace.

I love you, Maven

Not like friend love.

The type of "will you marry me" love.

Maven thought about you as his soulmate. He never wants to let you go. He wants to always hold you in his arms. He cries over the many times he took you for granted, and now that it's over, he hates himself for it. Ever since he was little he always tried to make you happy, always loving to see your smile. He's truly sorry for whatever times you have been displeased. Maven doesn't want you to go to Heaven, he only wants you in his arms. But he always wants you to be free, and he's happy knowing you're happy.

Everybody holds their letter, tears running down their faces as they try to maintain themselves. In the end, they are all wailing as you sit next to the tree, watching all of them.

I am happy I get to say a proper goodbye, you lean forward, taking in a deep breath. You close your eyes.

"What is this, (Y/N)?" Maven says. Your eyes widen as you turn your head to look at him.

"Aren't we playing hide and seek?" He asks, "so unless we find you, it's never going to end!" The others avert their gaze to look at him, all clenching their papers tighter.

"Are you there?!" Mare yells loudly in the hide-and-seek tone. She repeats it over and over. You watch, tears forming in your eyes. You never thought they'd do this. It's harder this way. You realize how desperately they want you to stay. Everybody else joins in on the chanting. Maven looks at the sky, trying to grasp on to whatever life you have left. You watch the chorus in amazement. These are the people who you tried to grow up with, you put your life and wish in their hands. They valued it like it was their own. But now it's your time to leave...

"You found me!" You scream out, voice weak from crying. Everybody looks around, all hearing your voice. It's Samson who notices you first, yelling out your name. Everybody looks. They all can see you, sitting against the tree, barely visible. Nobody approaches you, they stay in their place. You close your eyes, forcing a smile. You stand up, resting your hand on the tree for support. They can see the peak of the sun through your body as it shines on their faces.

"I read your letter! I love you too, (Y/N)!" Kilorn calls out, holding his letter in the air. Everybody looks at him. Iris puts her hands behind her back, trying to hold her tears in as she screams out, "I love you, as well!" She never thought she'd ever experience such emotion or heartbreak. She had been raised to never show weakness, but in moments like this, with her childhood friend before her eyes, she doesn't care what anybody thinks. Everybody yells their I love you's until you widen your eyes, gripping the tree harder than before. Maven never said I love you. He just stares at you, disbelief in his blue eyes.

His face relaxes until his shoulder's fall, "I love you, (Y/N)." His voice is quiet, calmer than the others. It feels more personal. Your eyes water until you see everybody as the children they are. You remember them so dearly, and you hope to never forget. Whether you stay in Heaven or are reincarnated as a butterfly, you wish to never forget to Super Peace Busters.

"I want to spend more time with all of you!" You cry out, almost unable to open your eyes through all of the tears. "But now that we've said goodbye..."

Maven holds out his hand, "we love you, (Y/N)," he says normally. "We love you, (Y/N)!" The others repeat from behind him. You open your eyes, trying to nail this memory into your brain forever. Until you can barely see, your hands go weak. They can see right through you. This is it. Nobody wants to admit it, or think about it. They all try to bask in the moment together. This is truly it.

"I love you, too." Your voice is weak. But then it's gone. You're gone.

Everything is over.

The flowers bloom, the seasons all feel like winter as they all change. But the Super Peace Busters will always remain the same.
