Epilogue: Settling Down
It was a picture perfect morning. The birds chirping, sunlight blooming, and the gentle breeze that laid upon her skin.
Shino hummed as she gazed upon the children playing in front of her. Both of them barely tots and had so much energy. She was barely keeping up with them. After all, she wasn't young anymore.
Almost reaching forty, she was a retired mother of eight. Something she didn't expect to have so many kids.
It had been so long, the world had changed. For the worse in the beginning. The war against the League had left many heroes in Japan dead, retired, or forfeit. She and Izuku's generation were left to pick up the pieces. They had spent majority of their teens and early adult years fixing and forging a stronger society.
One without heroes or villains.
Just people trying to get by.
Though there was many hardships involved. It healed the relationship between Izuku and his loved ones, allowing him to finally learn to be open about his need to rely on others.
"Heh." Shino chuckles at the dozens of memories of her being with Izuku through some of the oddest-small talk conversations she witnessed. It took him awhile but eventually he was back to being able to converse without reservation.
Getting up from the chair she sat upon. There was some difficulty despite being relatively healthy.
"Boys! Come inside." Shino hollered as the two children stopped playing. Obedient, the two boys raced to their mother.
"Mom! Can we eat? We are hungry." Young Kotaro spoke as his twin brother Hiro nodded eagerly. Shino sighs but smiles at her youngest pair.
"Come, would you two set the dinner table. I will get something for us." She put effort into getting out of Izuku's rocking chair.
The trio went inside their humble cabin. Hiro and Kotaro went to the dinning table and set it up as Shino cooks some Katsudon. She didn't feel like going all out until the rest of her kids came back with their father.
While in the middle of cooking, Shino's thoughts wandered to the family picture sitting on the middle shelf.
It was a year ago. Izuku and Shino were in the middle of their large family. In front of them were their oldest triplets, all where in high school: Migi on the right, Hidari on the left, and Nomoni in the middle. The three girls carried the Cheshire smile like on occasion Shino does. Followed by two middle school siblings at there parents sides, Sora, their first born son. He looked the closest to their father, just minus the freckles. Umi, their daughter, she a spot-on imitation of their mother with their father's freckles. Then followed after those two were more triplets. All of which were elementary school boys who were sitting on the ground: Mori, Ono, and Aoki. Then lastly the two infants that Izuku and Shino carried. Hiro and Kotaro.
The whole family took this picture in front of U.A. Their triplet daughters finally enrolled in the the prestigious academy. The once heroic school now focused on quirk development.
After finishing cooking lunch and feeding her two youngest sons. Shino laid them for their afternoon nap as she sat down on the couch. She took the time to reflect on the her thoughts. Opening her phone, she scrolled through the album.
The recent picture she saved was from her nephew.
Kota was 26 in the picture, moved to Nepal due to his service in the military had stationed him there. Over at the military base, he met a girl that he ended up pursuing a relationship with. She was pregnant by the time he finished his service and moved to Nepal as a permanent resident. In the picture Kota stood by his wife. A beautiful dark skin woman who held their infant son. That picture was three months ago.
Fortunately, Kota keeps in touch with Izuku and Shino to let them know when the wedding will be.
Swiping to the right, another photo came to view, this next picture had Eri in it.
It was no surprised that Eri became a renown doctor across the world diving more into Quirkology. She was currently in Norway right now studying the affects of violence on the individual and how it affected the quirk. Over the years she adopted a few children who were disabled due to their quirks. Growing to be a wonderful woman as a mother of two daughters and one son. Eri's work has changed mankind's medicine for the better.
Shino smiles at how far both her nephew and Eri grown. It was thanks to her husband, Izuku's involvement helped them get past their personal traumas and find happiness and purpose for their lives.
The next picture was of herself, Midnight, and Ragdoll. This one was five years ago.
Nemuri and Tomoko grew to be the few heroes from the old generation to be able to live to their old ages. Nemuri, thanks to Izuku's efforts on saving her life, left the war feeling conflicted and ran a orphanage for the children who lost their parents during the chaos. For a while that was her passion, she retired from teaching the following year to pursue her days as a caretaker. She had passed away in her sleep to lung cancer two years after their group photo.
Tomoko managed to make a cabin resort at the Pussycat's private property. She still did heroism on the side after the war but as the years went on, it was in her best interest to pass the agency and legacy to her best friend and Izuku. Her business came with a lot of traction and she eventually made a industry in forest cabin rentals across Japan and eventually the globe. With her age soon upon her, she retired to a quiet life in the country side. Shino and Izuku still visit every holiday.
Shino smiles happily at the fond memories of her best friends. Blinking away a stray tear, she swiped right once more.
This one was of Class-1A's female students. Her in the middle with the rest all bunch together in their cute pajamas. It was the last picture of them together. A night before the world changed drastically.
After the war, a couple of the girls retired from heroism. The year had seriously took it's toll on them especially with the recent pain of Izuku's stress development.
Tooru was one of those girls. She moved to Hokkaido with her family in the hopes of starting a new life. That was the last Shino has heard of her.
Kyoka was another girl but her resigning was due to a hearing injury she had sustain during the war. Permanently becoming deaf, even with Eri's intervention and reverting the injury; Kyoka was to traumatized by the whole ordeal. The silver lining at the time was that Denki made every attempt to make her life easier even as they grew older. However, due to Denki's continue service of heroism, it left Kyoka constantly worried and shaken whenever something major happens. The two broke off and went their separate ways.
Tsuyu passed away during the war. She died attempted to protect Midnight from convicts. Instead she was the one who took the punishment. By the time Midnight was next, Izuku came to save them but the damage was already to late.
Due to the economy drop after the war, Ochako's parent's construction company fell under to numerous competition and property damage. As a result, she fell to villainy shortly after to make money to support her family. Fraud, robbery, and even going as far man slaughter. Ochako did her best to keep her family afloat. Once she was detained by Katsuki, she spent 15 years at a high labor prison. Over those years, Katsuki and Izuku were the ones who consistently mailed to her and visit her. More so Katsuki. Eventually, after she got out, she and Katsuki pursued a relationship and got married. Their daughter as the result and greatest change for Ochako. Now she volunteers at charity homes and hospitals to eventually find redemption over her crimes.
Momo still maintained to be a pro hero but after the war. Her and the efforts of her classmates made society all the more peaceful. Letting her retire early on to continue her families business. She married Shoto and had four children.
Mina is still among the only active pro heroes of Izuku's generation left. Despite being a single mother at the age of sixteen. She carried a young Eijirou, named after the late father. Kirishima's death had shaken Mina but in turn gave her new resolve to be a better hero, woman, and mother. Eventually she remarried and had two more children with a doctor, she met later on.
Shino sighs at the picture. Those memories of girls night where they talked mundane things like boys, fashion, or even television shows. Shino will miss those girls. She regretted not putting enough effort into training them to be better suited for the hardships of heroism. She barely had her hands full with Izuku at the time.
Turning to the last photo was of her wedding day. Izuku dressed in a all white suit and her in a white dress. That was one of the happiest days of her life.
She didn't hesitate when Izuku asked her to be his lover, she didn't hesitate when she accepted his proposal, and she didn't hesitate to get started on consummating their marriage and starting a family together.
Izuku was a far cry from the troubled teen all those years ago. He grew up to be emotionally mature enough to understand when and how to show when he needed assistance when dealing with hardship. She was his emotional lifeline most of those years of struggling. He was her rock, so to speak, the one who she can rely on when shit hits the fan.
The pair made the best tag-team in all of history. When she came to know the properties of One for All and helping Izuku unlock his quirks. The two made the best rescue-fighting team that even surpassed the Pussycats.
Alas, things end eventually. After her third pregnancy, she retired. Happy to be granted a chance of peace. Izuku continued to work as it was his passion to both serve as a civil servant to Japan and to provide for his wife and family.
Despite that the hero system was taken down, Izuku worked with the government to deal with other national or international threats. Speaking of her husband, he should be home with their infants soon.
As if the work of her intuition, the front door unlocked which was followed by a "I'm home!"
Shino could only smile at her little boys running to their father as he carried the young ones in his arms. The future came with uncertainty but she is prepared to walk it with Izuku.
