Chapter Thirty: Complex {Doctor Who}

The Doctor, River, and Amy all ran back to the entrance and took the steps back up to the top. As the ground rumbled with the ships above, I didn't waste anytime and ran after them, following up the stone steps to reach the top. Just in time, to see starships flying across in the sky, lights beaming from them, there were thousands up there.

"We do we do?" Amy spoke as I came to stand behind her and River.

"Doctor, listen to me. Everything that ever hated you is coming here tonight. You can't win this. You can't even fight it. Doctor, this once, just this one time, please you have to run," River begged him to flee, as she didn't want to see him hurt or even worse killed.

"Run where?" He states looking around, as there was no place to run.

"Fight how?" River exclaims as she knew he wouldn't just run away. He rushes forward grabbing something from inside his tweed-jacket, a pair of binoculars. He brought them to his eyes as he looks fair into the distance to see a Roman settlement.

"The greatest military machine in the history of the universe," The Doctor spoke, never lowing the binoculars from his eyes.

"What is? The Daleks?" Amy states as she thought he was looking up at the sky.

"No, he means the Romans," I answered for the Doctor as he lowers the binoculars from his eyes and swiftly turns around to face us, his eyes flickering between us all.

"River go down there and get me as many as you can," the Doctor ordered as she nods swiftly. "You too Violet," he states making me raise an eyebrow to him, but I just nod as River and I went to her white-horse.

"You've got a plan I hope?" I asked River as she climbs on the horse, offering me a hand.

"Always," she states as I grabbed her hand and she pulls me up, as I sat behind her on the saddle. She uses the reins to start the movement and off we went, galloping away from Stonehenge...

................

We reached the camp in no time as it was hard to miss, and we were on a time crunch. The horse comes to a halt at a large tent in the camp. I jumped down first as River came after, one of the Roman soldier held the horse at its reins. River came forward and went to go inside, but the two soldiers cross their spears stopping River and I from entering.

"I think we're in trouble," I leaned into River as my tone were merely a whisper. Two guards lead us into the tent as a Roman general stood there eyeing us up as the two held their swords at us.

"So, I return to my command after one week and discover we've been playing host to Cleopatra," the General began as he paced back and forth. "Who's in Egypt. And dead," his eyes locked onto River.

"Yes. Funny how things work out," she replied. Suddenly, a starship flew over head, making the ground tremble and shake the tent, making the Romans become unbalance. But River and I kept our balance as we were used too it.

"The sky is falling, and you make jokes. Who are you?" The General wanted to know.

"When you fight barbarians, what must they think of you?" River question as I bit my lip as I didn't want to snicker at her comment.

The General laughs at her question. "Riddles now?" He states eyes locked on her.

"Where do they think you come from?" She continued.

"A place more deadly and more powerful and more impatient than their tiny minds can imagine," he states in an angry tone as he pulls free his sword and points it at River. Quick as a flash she draws her gun and fires at the cabinet at the left hand side, it hits and disintegrate the whole thing making the Romans pull back and have fear on their faces.

"Where do we come from?" She was including me in this. "Your world has visitors. You're all barbarians now," River states to him, as he held fear.

"What is that? Tell me. what?" He asks quickly, wanting to know.

"A fool would say, the word of the Gods. But you've been a soldier too long to believe there are Gods watching over us. There is, however, a man. And tonight he's going to need your help," River was quick persuasive and chose her words carefully. One of the Roman soldier pulled the General from our attention as he heads over to the entrance of the tent, he pulls it back and began talking to the Roman. They whispered among each other, as the General eyes landed back on us. He comes back to stand in front of us.

"Well, it seems you have a volunteer," he states as River and take our eyes to the entrance of the tent to see a Roman, but we couldn't clearly see his face.

"We need all the men you can spare," I finally spoke up since my arrival in the camp, making the General nod his head at me. "I hope it will be enough," I turn to face River as she offers me a thin smile.

...............

The General spared fifty men to help us on the course, I went back with the Romans as River still had a job to do for the Doctor. I stood in the open above as spaceships came zooming past and placed lights on the whole show, all wanting a piece of the Pandorica. The ground shook under my feet as ships continued to zoom about above, but a high pitch sound came to ear.

"Sorry, sorry dropped it. Hello, Stonehenge!" The Doctor's voice rang out but it was magnified so all the spaceships could hear him. "Who takes the Pandorica, takes the universe. But bad news, everyone," I turn my gaze behind just in time to see the Doctor jump on a stone. "'Cause guess who? Ha! Listen, you lot, you're all whizzing about, it's really very distracting. Could you all just stay still for a minute?  Because I am talking!" The Doctor prolongs his last few words as he spins around on the stone looking up at the spaceships. The device amplified his voice allowing the sound waves to be higher than normal. The spaceships began to come to a halt, heeding his command. "The question of the hour is, who's got Pandorica? Answer. I do. New question, who's coming to take it from me?" He asks all of those creatures in their spaceships as he held his arms out wanting for a reply. "Come on! Look at me, no plan, no backup, no weapons worth a damn. And something else, I don't have anything to lose! So if you're sitting up there in your silly little spaceship, with all your silly little guns, and you've got any plans on taking the Pandorica tonight, just remember who's standing in your way. Remember every black day I ever stopped you. And then, and then, do the smart thing," The Doctor was throwing his arms around, pointing up at the sky it was quite breath taking to watch him work. I haven't seen him for centuries... "Let somebody else try first," he sates his arms back out, but one by one the lights from different spaceships that shined down upon the Doctor like a spotlight faded as they all began to retreat and fly away, but just out of the planets atmosphere. I couldn't help but crack a smile at him as his eyes met mine. "That'll keep them squabbling for half an hour," he throws the device at me but I caught it effortlessly. He got down from the stone and looked around, staring at all the Romans that came. "Romans," his eyes landed on me before going to a Roman that offered up to help.

"He was going to send twenty-five, but River and I bumped it up to fifty," I announced to the Doctor with a smirk tugging on my lips as he smiles as he turns and began to walk back to the entrance.

"Great job Violet," he announces as I followed behind, we both headed back down the steps back to the Pandorica. "Just need to stop this from opening," the Doctor states as we entered back into the room. The circular engravings on the Pandorica was lit up and green, they were turning like mechanisms on a clock, turning to open. As I reached the box I touched the glowing cogs and placed my ear too it, hoping to hear anything, but all I could hear was the sound of mechanisms turning and being unlocked.

"They're still out there. What do we do now?" a Roman which was on the surface - now below states to the Doctor.

"If I can stop whatever's in this box getting out, then they'll all go home," the Doctor states to the man.

"Big if," I remarked lifting my ear from the Pandorica and see the Doctor give me a look before turning back to the Roman.

"Rory, I'm sorry, you're going to have to be very brave now," the Doctor states making frown in confusion, but I notice Amy coming our way, she looked like she was drugged up as she scratches her head.

"My head," she whines to the Doctor as she comes to stand in front of him. The Doctor grabs her head with his hands and straights it.

"Ah," he states as he opens his mouth as Amy followed his order as he looks inside her mouth.

"Basic knockout drops," I announced as Amy and the Doctor turn their gazes to me as they frowned, wondering how I knew that. "She'll be fine, just need fresh air," I told Amy as she offers me a smile as the Doctor lowers his hands.

"Is it safe up there?" She aimed the question to the Doctor, but he whips out his sonic and began to sonic the box.

"Not remotely, but it's fresh," he announces as he starts at the corner of the Pandorica and worked his way up, as I watched him with curiosity. This was the second time I've seen him, a long time searching for him and I stumbled upon him by accident the first time around, due to River's help. But still, I owe her for getting me to the Doctor. I still remember the very first day I met the Doctor, it was at the academy back on Gallifrey, he was so young and so impressionable. I took a liking to him as he did the same, we became friends fast.  Then we graduated and then he told me to steal a Tardis, just like a drop of a hat. I did it without questions or what would life back like if I stayed on Gallifrey.... I didn't notice the Doctor now back up and staring straight at me, his eyes searching mine. But his held confusion still, on who I was and what I had to do with his past.

"She doesn't remember me," Rory's voice pierced my ears making me turn to look at him, Amy now gone and at the top. "How can she not remember me?" He whips round and shot his gaze at the Doctor.

"Because you never existed," the Doctor states to him in a gentle way.

"I think I need to be caught up on the situation," I told the group as I crossed my arms over my chest as the Doctor was sonicing the Pandorica once again.

"There are cracks. Cracks in time. There's going to be a huge explosion in the future, on one particular day.  And every other moment in history is cracking around it," the Doctor explained as that what I saw. In the control room of the Byzantium.

"So how does that work? What kind of explosion? What exploded?" Rory asked the important question, what was going to exploded and cause all these cracks in time. Out of the corner of my eye, I see the Doctor stare off into space as he was thinking something.

"Doesn't matter, the cracks are everywhere now," he states as he continued to sonic the Pandorica. "Get too close to them and you can fall right out of the universe," the Doctor states not turning to face Rory.

"So I fell through a crack and now I was never born?" Rory states in a rush tone of voice as he paced around.

"Basically," I added to the mix as that was the basics of it.

"How did I end up here?" Rory questions as it was a good one as he shouldn't be here.

"I don't know, you shouldn't have," the Doctor claims, but sometimes the universe gives us a miracle. "What happened? From your point of view, what physically happened?" The Doctor drops what he was doing and turns and walks to Rory.

"I was in the cave, with you and Amy. I was dying and then I was just here, a Roman soldier. A proper Roman. A head full of Roman... Stuff, a whole other life," Rory states pointing to his own head. "Just here, like I'd woken up from a dream I started to think it was a dream. You, Amy, and Leadworth. Then today, in the camp, the men was talking about the visitors, the girl with the red hair," Rory turned away from us and walked a few steps away. "I thought you'd come back for me. But she can't even remember me!" He raises his voice in anger but not at us.

"Oh shut up," the Doctor states in a sassy way, taking Rory back in surprise.

"What?" He asks confused but the Doctor reaches into his inner pocket jacket and throws a red velvet box at him as he caught it in his hands.

"Go get her," The Doctor states.

"But I don't understand. Why am I here?" Rory was confused on why he was picked to come back, picked to live again.

"Because you are," I began as my eyes locked onto him. "I don't know you Rory, but I see a man who's in love with Amy, a fighter. And the universe is a big, vast, complicated and ridiculous, and very rarely impossible thing happen. We call them miracles. So march up those stairs and get the girl," I explained as a thin smile came to my lips as it was true, I saw a man in love.

"She's with Romans too, and I'm quite sure History can't take it," the Doctor made a snide comment as I shook my head as I let out a chuckle. But Rory nods at us before going to the steps and up them. "Who are you?" The Doctor asks as I turned swiftly around to face him, my smile replaced with a gloomy expression.

"Now's not the time, Doctor," I answered back as it wasn't, but when will it be...
