Chapter Thirteen: Angels Everywhere {Doctor Who}

We continued with the clear path through the maze, but it was going deeper into the maze. Our flashlights shone in each direction, getting into the deepest, darkest cracks that the light could.

"Isn't there a chance this lot's just going to collapse?" Amy asks as we wondered deeper into the maze. "There's a whole ship up there," Amy was worried if the ship would break the structures and fall on us.

"Incredible builders, the Aplans," River states to Amy, ensuring that the structures wouldn't fall on us.

"Had dinner with their chief architect once. Two heads are better than one," Doctor said, giving us this delightful piece of information, he's a bragger and to be fair why shouldn't he.

"What, you mean you helped him?" Amy counters, but he didn't.

"No, I mean he had two heads. That book. The very end, what did it say?" Doctor states to River as she retrieves the book from her bag. But again something was starting right in front of me, my gut feeling was off about this place. "Read it to me," the Doctor states pulling me back into reality.

"What if we had ideas that could think for themselves? What if one day our dreams no longer needed us? When these things occur and are held to be true, the time will be upon us. The time of Angels," River read from the book they must have found at the camp site. Clearly, wrote by a madman, but we didn't have time to debate that.

"There's no time to waste," I announced to everyone as they nodded their heads to me as we began to advance forward. As we headed up to the next level, as mazes had more than one level. After a few minutes of walking up the slope, we came to a turning point.

"Are we there yet? It's a hell of a climb," Amy states as its expected for this type.

"The maze is on six levels representing the ascent of the soul. And only two levels to go," I replied to Amy as the Doctor isn't the only one who knows about the Aplans design.

"Lovely species, the Aplans. We should visit them sometime," the Doctor aimed that to Amy as she was his companion. We came across a small bridge, which led further into the maze.

"I thought they were all dead," Amy replied back to the Doctor.

"So is Virginia Woolf. I'm on her bowling team. Very relaxed, sort of cheerful. That's having two heads. You're never short of a snog with an extra head," Doctor states turning his gaze to River and I, bragging once again. But we entered a chamber with more statues inside as the soldiers went in first to make sure it was safe. But I still had a weird feeling, and it was itching at my head an answer that's going to show itself soon.

"Doctor, there's something. I don't know what it is..."

"I feel it too. There's something wrong here," I leaned forward to the Doctor as he shined the flashlight onto a statue.

"I know. Don't know what it is yet, either. Working on it," he states. "'Cause then they started having laws against self-marrying. I mean, what was that about? But that's the Church for you. Uh, no offence, Bishop," the Doctor turns to the right and shined the light onto the Bishop.

"Quite a lot taken, if that's all right, Doctor," Octavian states to him brushing pass and further into the chamber. But we continued to walk through the maze, as I used my flashlight to light up the statues. "Lowest point in the wreckage is only about fifty feet up from here," I hear Father Octavian state, but I stopped in my tracks and looked at the statue, properly this time. I moved closer too it and focused on the statue taking it all in. Suddenly, my heart dropped to my stomach as realisation dawned upon me. The statues don't have two heads...

"Oh God," I spoke aloud, catching the attention of the Doctor who was already beside me, already caught on what I was thinking.

"What's wrong?" Amy asks, but I couldn't speak as I cocked the flashlight into another direction of the statue, it only having one head. Then I shone another, only one. I hear River let out a 'oh' sound as she had caught on as well. I brought my gaze back around as all around us was one-headed statues. My eyes met with the Doctor before he moved them to River.

"Exactly," he states.

"How could we not notice that?" River's voice was low and harsh as we were thick not to notice.

"Low-level perception filter, or maybe we're thick," Doctor rushes out as this was a big miss for him, for all of us.

"What's wrong, sir?"

"Nobody move. Nobody move. Everyone stay exactly where they are. Bishop, I am truly sorry. I've made a mistake and we are all in terrible danger," the Doctor cuts into the back end of Father Octavian as he explained the situation.

"What danger?" The Bishop replied, hoping for an answer.

"The Aplans," River states aloud.

"The Aplans?" He was confused as he did know what was happening.

"They've got two heads," River went on, shining her light onto a statue which didn't have two heads.

"Yes. I get that. So?"

"So why don't the statues?" I replied softly to the Bishop as I see his gaze wonder to the statues.

"Everyone, over there. Just move," the Doctor pointed out a clear large space that we could all fit in and be surrounded by one another as he had a plan. "Don't ask questions, don't speak," we did what we told and moved to the space where he directed us. River, Amy and I, all stood in the front as the army boys were behind. The Doctor was also inches in front of us, pointing his light to a statue. "Ok. I want you all to switch off your torches," he announces, making me raise an eyebrow to his back.

"Sir?"

"Just do it," the Doctor commanded the Bishop just to follow his simple rule. I turned off my flashlight as the others did the same, the room got dark and the only light visible was the Doctors. "Ok. I'm going to turn off this one, too, just for a moment," he states, hoping that they wouldn't kill us.

"Are you sure about this?" River asks him, but he was the Doctor of course he was sure...

"No," he states which had my hopes dwindled away. He suddenly, turns off his flashlight for a second and switches it back on, the statues had turned to face us.

"Oh, my God! They've moved," Amy was astonished as we switched our flashlights back on as the Doctor went running back the way we came. Making River and Amy to run after him, but this was more dire than we realised.

"They're Angels. All of them!" I hear the Doctor's voice come from the way that we came. The whole maze, the statues inside were all Angels. Doctor, Amy and River was lost from my sights, as they had ran back the way we came to check.

"Keep your eyes on the statues," I told the soldiers as their flashlights had turned to the statues, keeping them in the line of sight. Within moments, the Doctor, Amy and River had returned to the group.

"There was only one Angel on the ship. Just the one, I swear," River told us all, and oddly enough I believed her. I might not know her fully but I believe her.

"Could they have been here already?" Amy asked the important question.

"The Aplans. What happened? How did they die out?" The Doctor asks, wondering how they did die out.

"Nobody knows," River replied to his question.

"We know now," I remarked to everyone as I shined my light on a statue as everyone else was keeping their eyes on their own.

"They don't look like Angels," the Bishop states.

"And they're not fast. You said they were fast. They should have had us by now," Amy said as the Doctor takes a few step forward to a statue which was on the floor, looking all deformed.

"Look at them. They're dying. Losing their form. They must've been down here for centuries, starving," the Doctor said as we all looked at the statue.

"Losing their image," I countered.

"And their image is their power. Power..." The Doctor made a realisation as he shot up from the ground. "Power!" He yells clapping his hands together, as I just caught on as well.

"All that radiation spilling out, the drive burn. The crash of the Byzantium wasn't an accident," I announced proudly to the group but my eyes were on the Doctor, as he smiles knowing that I had said the right thing.

"It was a rescue mission for the Angels. We're in the middle of an army and it's waking up," the Doctor carried on as I wanted to give him some glory too.

"We need to get out of here fast," River makes a good point, if we don't get out then we'll be next to die.

"Bob, Angelo, Christian, come in, please," Father Octavian used his communication device to reach the others. "Any of you, come in!"

"It's Bob, sir. Sorry, sir," Bob replied through the device.

"Bob, are Angelo and Christian with you? All the statues are active. I repeat, all the statues are active!"

"I know, sir. Angelo and Christian are dead, sir. The statues killed them, sir," The Doctor quickly grabs the device from the Bishop as he wanted to talk to Bob.

"Bob, Sacred Bob, it's me, the Doctor. Where are you now?" The Doctor asks, wanting to know where his position was.

"I'm on my way up to you, sir. I'm homing in on your signal,"

"Well done, Bob. Scared keeps you fast. Told you. Didn't I? Your friends, Bob, what did the Angel do to them?"

"Snapped their necks, sir," Bob replied but that was an odd thing to do for an Angel, they normally send you back in time.

"That's odd. That's not how the Angels kill you, they displace you in time. Unless they needed bodies for something," the Doctor didn't know why the Angels did that, but the Bishop snatches back the communicator.

"Bob, did you check their data packs for vital signs? We may be able to initiate a rescue plan,"

"Don't be an idiot! The Angels don't leave you alive!" The Doctor calls the Bishop out, as he snatches the device back. "Bob, keep running, but tell me, how did you escape?"

"I didn't escape, sir. The Angel killed me, too," Bob replied to him, but if he was dead, how was he talking to us. River and I exchanged a glance, as well did Amy and I.

"What do you mean, the Angel killed you, too?"

"Snapped my neck, sir. Wasn't as painless as I expected, but it was pretty quick, so that was something,

"If you're dead, how can I be talking to you?" The Doctor finally asked the important question right now.

"You're not talking to me, sir. The Angel has no voice. It stripped my cerebral cortex from my body and re-animated a version of my consciousness to communicate with you. Sorry about the confusion," Bob pained us a lovely picture of how it all worked, but I felt sorry for the boy.

"So when you say you're on your way up to us..."

"It's the Angel that's coming, sir, yes." Bob states through the communicator.

"No way out," the Doctor states as he had no longer his finger on the button on the device.

"Then we get out through the wreckage. Go," Father Octavian states.

"Go, go, go. All of you, run!" Doctor carried the point across as we all began running in the direction of the wreckage. River was on my tail as so was Amy. We ran through a corridor before we came to a halt at the wreckage site, our gazes going up to see the ship above.

"The Byzantium," I state as my flashlight went up to the ship.

"It's got to be thirty feet. How do we get up there?" River asks looking up, but there was clearly no way.

"Check all these exits. I want them all secure," the Bishop told one of his soldier to check it out. He ran off down the corridor to check. But I had a feeling that Angels won't be fair behind. Minutes had passed and the soldier who went running down the corridor came back up.

"The statues are advancing along all corridors. And sir, my torch keeps flickering," the soldier states as the lights were flickering.

"So does the gravity globe," River states, looking up at the big ball that flickers.

"Clerics, we're down to four men. Expect incoming," the Bishop told them.

"Yeah, it's the Angels," the Doctor's voice rang through my ears making me turn to face him. "They're coming. And they're draining the power for themselves,"

"Then we won't be able to see them," I said aloud as the lights flicker some more.

"Which means we can't stay here," the Doctor replied just as the lights went dead just for a moment. But I blocked out the noises as I was trying to think of a plan, a plan that would save us all. I couldn't use my Vortex Manipulator, it only has enough charge to send one person.

"There's always a way out," the Doctor's voice rang through my ears, making me snap back into the room. To see Angels advancing towards us from the corridors as the lights still flicker.

"Doctor? Can I speak to the Doctor, please?" Bob the Angel had spoke through the device.

"Hello, Angels. What's your problem?" The Doctor was being cocky with them.

"Your power will not last much longer, and the Angels will be with you shortly. Sorry, sir,

"Why are you telling me this?" The Doctor asks, curious as why was the Angel telling him this.

"There's something the Angels are very keen you should know before the end," Bob states but I didn't like what was going to come next through that device.

"Which is?" He asks daringly.

"I died in fear,"

"I'm sorry?" The Doctor didn't clearly understand what the Angel had meant by that.

"You told me my fear would keep me alive, but I died afraid, in pain and alone. You made me trust you, and when it mattered, you let me down," ballsy move there by the Angels, but they were trying to achieve something by letting the Doctor know this.

"What are they doing?" Amy whispered to River and I.

"They're trying to make him angry," River had told Amy as my focus was on the Doctor.

"I'm sorry, sir. The Angels were very keen for you to know that,"

"Well, then, the Angels have made their second mistake, because I'm not going to let that pass. I'm sorry you're dead, Bob, but I swear to whatever is left of you, they will be sorrier," I could tell that hurt him, the Doctor is a caring man.

"But you're trapped, sir, and about to die,"

"Yeah. I'm trapped. You know what speaking of traps, this trap has got a great, big mistake in it. A great, big, whopping mistake!" The Doctor had an plan and that I saw on his face, Angel Bob had spoken but I was amazed by the Doctor right now.

"Trust me," his eyes were on Amy.

"Yeah," Amy replied with a confident voice.

"Trust me?" The Doctor's eyes met River before flickering to me, asking both of us.

"Always," River states as she would know more about him due to being his future.

"One-hundred percent," I ensured him as the Doctor was a man worth trusting everything too.

"You lot, trust me?" He asks the Bishop and his men, but his eyes were on the Father.

"We have faith, sir,"

"Then give me your gun," the Doctor clicks his fingers and pointed to the Bishop hand gun as he removes it and hands it to the Doctor.

"I'm about to do something incredibly stupid and dangerous. When I do, jump," he states to us doing a little jump so we would know what to do.

"Jump where?" The Bishop ask.

"Just jump, high as you can. Come on, leap of faith, Bishop. On my signal,"

"What signal?"

"I don't think you'll miss it," I spoke to the Bishop as I think I've worked out what he was going to do, and it was quite a risky one. The Doctor aims the gun up to the ship, but really aiming for the gravity globe.

"Sorry, can I ask again? You mentioned a mistake we've made," Angel Bob came through the communicator.

"Big, big mistake. Really huge. Didn't anyone ever tell you, there's one thing you never put in a trap if you're smart. If you value your continued existence, if you have any plans about seeing tomorrow, there is one thing you never, ever put in a trap," the Doctor made his speech as his eyes were on the prize.

"And what would that be, sir?"

"Me," he spoke after a moment of slience as a shot rang out and the gravity globe combusted, as we all did what we were told and jumped as high as we could...

The Angel's wasn't going to take us today...
