Chapter Ten: Earhart {Historical Event}

I had written an entry into my diary about Sam and Dean, though it was only a short entry, I would add more too it later. If I meet them again, and I think I surly will. I was currently sat on the black leather chair within the console room, my eyes deep into reading a book about quantum mechanics. The Tardis was travelling through the time vortex as I was just sat reading. I flipped the page to the next page, but I had managed to fix the Tardis flight drive, due to what happened. So everything should be in order. As I read the contents on the page, I noticed something flashing on the console panel across from me. It was a flashing yellow light, which was next to the coloured keys. I frown as it must be a message as the phone laid next too it. I shut the book and raised to my feet - placing the book on the seat. I came to the panel, and picked up the phone - which was just a glossy black colour, but it was also old fashioned and was attached to the console. As I placed the phone to my ear, the dial sound enter, but soon was replaced with a short burst of electricity.

"Mayday, mayday. My plane is taking on water. Can anyone hear me-" A woman's voice rang out into my ear, as this was a distress call. "Mayday, please help-" The line went dead as the phone had cut off. This wasn't good. I quickly placed the phone back on it's port, and began typing on the coloured keys, I was going to trace the call and locate where it came from. The monitor begin beeping, meaning that I was successful in tracking the signal. I rushed around to the right, coming to the space-time throttle and pull it down as the Tardis began to land. The Tardis quaked to a stop, as I went around the console and to the doors. Opening the left one and slipping out, to be met with an ocean. I stepped out and sand immediately went into my boots. The waves crashed against the shore, as I closed the Tardis door behind me, and I whipped out my sonic from my jacket and began to scan my surroundings. I was going to trace the location of the signal using my sonic. It began to beep slowly as I turn in a circle and I was now facing down the beach that the sonic's beeping began faster, meaning I was on track.

I followed the beeping sound of the sonic, which I tracked through sand as it flicked up behind me. As I got further down the beach, the beeping sound began to fade, making me spin to the side to the ocean, seeing a part of a plane. I lowered my sonic as the waves crashed upon the beach, dragging the plane part onto the sand. From here I could tell it was a plane wing, which had broken away from the body. Meaning the plan was in water, and the distress signal from the plane would now have vanished as the radio would have been destroyed by the water. The sonic stopped it's sound as I placed it at back into my jacket pocket. I spun around to look at the forest area, a little entrance heading further into the island. Someone needed my help, and I wasn't going to turn my back on them. Without a second thought, I marched forward coming to the forest entrance and made my way in. Brushing leaves, branches, and vines out of my way as I walked further into the forest...

After walking a few meters into the forest, I could see through the bushes and noticed a little camp fire roaring as smoke filled the air. I brush the branches to the side as I came into a small little clearing - which held a tent, the camp fire, among other things. It looked like whoever made that distress signal had been here a few days. I step into the clearing, coming closer to the fire, which I could now feel. My eyes carefully glanced around my surroundings, finding no one in sights, but I held a good grip on my sonic. Suddenly, I could hear a twig snap behind me, making me spin around sharply, to see a hand parting the branches and coming from the forest. The woman entered the clearing her eyes met mine and my mouth hanged agape and my eyes widen in surprise. As she did the same expression. She drops the firewood from her hands and came racing over to me.

"Finally, some got my distress signal," she states, coming forward and wrapping me into a tight hug. "Thank you!" She exclaimed, thrilled that she was going to be rescued. After a moment she pulled back and I just stared at her. The cogs in my head were turning, and I couldn't believe who I was seeing...

"Amelia Earhart?" I asked astonished after a moment, my eyes glancing up and down her body as she smiles and nodded her head. "The first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean!" I couldn't contain my joy, and began shaking her hand as she gave me a questionable look. "It's very nice to meet you!" I exclaimed to her, giving her hand a one last good shake, but she just gave me a confused look.

"Where's your boat or plane?" Amelia asks me as I lowered my hand from hers, but then it dawned on me. It was the year 1937, the year she went missing. "Are they at the shore?" She turns her gaze back to the forest, gesturing to the shore. "Fred will be back soon. We can all leave," Amelia sounded so excited, and her navigator - who was in the plane with her. Fred Noonan. In the future Amelia Earhart is a legend in the piloting community, she inspires young women for decades, but if I change the timeline that might never happen. Her legacy might not be remembered, and I couldn't let that happen but I couldn't just leave them here, it's not right...

"Amelia," I spoke her name softly, her head whipped around to meet my gaze. "I'm sorry. I truly am, but I didn't come here in a boat or plane," her face fell knowing that I wasn't there to rescue her or Fred from this fate.

"Oh, you're stranded here too," her voice seemed to lower as she spoke, her gaze came away from mine as she looked into the camp fire. But this wasn't me, I couldn't just turn around and leave now. Knowing that two people needed my help, needed saving. Just then a man came bursting through the bushes where Amelia had came from. His expression frightened and sweat poured from his forehead, like he had been running away from something.

"There-there's something in the forest," he stutters out tripping over his own feet, but didn't fall on his face. Amelia quickly grabs him, and holds him up right. "I-I couldn't see what it was. But I felt the ground move!" he blurted out as he wasn't making any sense right now. But then a loud roaring sound came from within the island, making the birds fly away and making us all look around as it was loud.

"What was that?" Amelia asks, but it wasn't in frighten but in wonder.

"I have no idea," I responded to her, but then a roar rang out once again, but this time it felt closer. We all began to move backwards and behind the fire as the bushes in front of us were shaking, meaning whatever it was, it was coming this way. Heavy foot-stomps were heard, I could feel the ground vibrate as it came closer. Just then, the stomps stopped, the ground had stopped vibrating and everything went quite. I took my gaze to Amelia as she looked at me with a hopefulness glint in her eyes, but I don't think it was over. Fred seemed to hold his breath for a moments, before releasing it and letting out a chuckle.

"Huh, maybe it was an earthquake?" He suggests, moving away from Amelia and I and back around the fire. He chuckles once again, leaning down at the fire to warm his hands. Just then, a whistling sound came to ear and Fred suddenly gasps. Amelia and I widen our eyes as Fred began to lean sideways, falling to the ground. Once he hit the ground, we both could see an arrow lodged into his back, but it had struck his heart.

"Fred!" Amelia yells out, trying to run towards him, but I quickly grabbed her and held her back.

"He's dead. I'm sorry, but we have to run!" I raised my voice at her as we didn't have time to mourn. The whistle sound of arrow rang in the air, making me look up to see arrows coming our way. I got a good grip on Amelia's wrist and began to pull her in the other direction away from the camp site. We ran fast through the forest, branches, leaves smacked up in our faces as we didn't have time to part them. We continued to run through the forest, but I could hear the ocean in the distance meaning we were heading to a beach. Just then we broke through to the tree line and onto sand, the waves crashing against the shore.

"I think we're safe," I spoke through heavy breaths coming to a halt on the sand and looking to Amelia. "Were there any signs of life when you crashed?" I asked Amelia, but she shook her head as she was leaning over catching her breath. "I'm sorry about Fred," I told her as she brought her gaze up to meet mine, giving me a thin smile as tears glossed in her eyes. "But we can't stay here for long. We need to get back to my ship," I told her but she was now standing up straight.

"I thought you didn't come here on a boat or a plane," Amelia states to me, as I gave her a chuckle with a smirk.

"I didn't," I just responded to her, before going further down the shore a bit. I opened my tweed jacket to receive my sonic, I grabbed the handle and pulled it free and began scanning around the area. I pointed up the beach as the sonic was beeping hasty, meaning the Tardis was up the beach and by the looks of where we are, it was going to be a track back up. "Looks like we're going up the beach," I told Amelia, turning back to face her while putting my sonic back. She gives me a nod of her head as we began to make our journey up the beach...

...............................

It took us a few hours to get back up to the beach and night was dawning on us. Amelia had kept up with my peace, but we stopped a few times to rest. There was also no signs of anywhere else on this island besides, Amelia and I. I even scanned the island with my sonic, and I only picked up two lifeforms. Amelia and I had the time to talk as well, she had told me about her adventures and her life, that she was an author and published books. I told her how that was a massive achievement to feel, but I had to act as I already knew all of this. I had also told her a bit about what I did, well mainly that I travel the world.

As we walked up the beach, the sand flicked up behind me, and some of it had entered my boots. But in the distance I could see the back of the Tardis and I sighed a relief, finding her in the same position.

"What is that?" Amelia asks her eyes squinting into the distance, gesturing to the blue box.

"A way off this island," I told her warmly, as I offered a smile. We picked up our pace and made it further up the beach, reaching the Tardis is no time. We came around to the front of the Tardis, as I rubbed the door frame.

"It's a police box," Amelia states in a worrying tone as she was wondering how the hell would this help us get off the island. "How will this get us off the island?" She asks me, as I leaned on the Tardis door as I faced Amelia who was stood to my left.

"Trust me. It will get us out of here," I told her, grabbing the key from my inner pocket. I turned and placed the key into the slot and twisted it and the door unlocked and I pushed it open. I entered through the door as the Tardis hummed at me. I stopped at the first panel that was across from the door, and spun around to wait for Amelia to enter. Within seconds, Amelia entered the Tardis and her eyes immediately widen in shock.

"It-It's bigger on the inside," Amelia was starstruck making me smirk at her comment. Everyone comments on how the internal dimensions, exceed the external ones.

"Never noticed," I joked to her as she stopped mid-way towards the console and clutched onto the railing. "Just know I can get you off the island," I told her and flipped the right, red handled lever down and the door closed by itself. I wondered left and around the console, coming to the space-time throttle, but before I pulled it down. I pulled the green and blue leaver down, then the handbrake. Before resting my hand on the space-time throttle as my gaze went to Amelia who was still taking in her surroundings in 'awe'.  "I think you'll like this. It's like flying a plane of sorts," I told her as she made eye contact with me. I pulled the throttle down and the Tardis began to take off, giving us a little jolt as the sound rang through our ears. The Tardis kept her flying sound as I came back over to Amelia, taking her by the hand and too the door, opening the left one to show her what was outside...

"Is that the island?" She asks, looking outside of the door. As we were high above the island, just floating for the meantime.

"Yes," I replied back to her. "And that's the island where you spend the rest of your days," I had told her, making her snap her head to me. "I'm a time traveller. I got your distress signal, and came. 1937 is the year you disappear and never return," I told her the truth as I didn't want to lie to her.

"But you can take me back home now and everything will be ok," she states, but I shook my head softly at her.

"Sadly, that's not how it works. History states you disappear, and if we change that history then the future will not be the same," I announce to her, though time can be rewritten, not all of it can. "However, I couldn't just leave you on that island to die like Fred did. I could give you a new life, but far in the past. Before anyone knew you, before you were even born," that was the only option I could think of to maintain the timeline, to keep everything in order. Amelia thought about it for a moment looking back down at the island before meeting my gaze.

"Will I be remembered?" She asks, looking hopeful for my answer to be a good one.

"You'll inspire young women around the world for decades to come. You will be remembered for centuries because Amelia Earhart is the best female pilot of her time," I replied back to her as she began to tear up, because her legacy will live on...

Amelia Earhart the first woman who flew across the Atlantic Ocean. A woman who will be remembered through the ages...
