Chapter Forty-Six: Saved {Captain America}
We walked miles on foot, over two hundred soldiers freed from the HYDRA facility, vehicles apprehended. Weapons taken from HYDRA soldiers - which was fascinating, they held components of the energy source which powered the gun. I was kind of enjoying unlocking the secrets of the guns but it was shorted lived as we had to get back to camp.
I was at the front with Steve as Bucky was to my right, Steve was leading the charge back to the camp, and finally we only had meters to go. Soldiers in the camp began to notice the crowd of people coming up the small hill to the camp. The barrier to the camp lifted up as it was to welcome us back, and allow us through. We kept going, a line of soldiers were to the right of us, who began to clap and cheer for the safe return of the men. A small smile came to my face as Steve did it, he rescued a ton of men, and he should be proud of that. Bucky came to walk side by side with Steve as he turned his gaze to him and offered a smile and a pat on the back as we headed further into the camp. The General began to form in the distance and so did Peggy who looked relieved to see Steve once again. I branched off the group, and into the side lines of the crowd that gathered around them. I watched from the side lines, watching as the General talked to Steve, and then left giving Peggy and Steve to chat. You could see the love in her eyes, the admiration for him. I've been around a long time to know what love is like...
"Hey!" Bucky's voice rang out, making me snap back into reality. Though he was dazed when I first found him he seemed more lively and active. "Let's hear it for Captain America!" Bucky yells as soldiers began to clap and cheer for him, as he was a hero now. I began to clap myself as a smile crept on my face. I see the Bucky glance to me as our eyes met for a moment, as the clapping and cheering died down. The Soldiers dispersed as the wounded was going to be tended too, but I see Bucky come my way.
"Well Mister Barnes, I think the day worked in our favour," I state to him as he was close enough to speak clearly too. "And you need a clean up," my eyes wondered up and down his currently outfit which was a dark green top with his dog tags hanging from his neck.
"You're a bit dirty yourself," he replied with a chuckle, his eyes wondering my outfit. My tweed jacket was open and dirty with the fumes of smoke and soot as well as my cream shirt underneath, with the rest of my clothes.
"Both in need of a good hot shower," I remarked offering a small chuckle.
"You offering?" He smugly replied with a boyish grin tugging at his lips.
"Maybe another time," I said back to him, but before he could speak my sonic beeped once again. I pulled open my jacket to see the sonic flashing a pale pink colour, as I gripped it and freed it. I extended the shaft as I see Bucky look confused on what I was holding. "Ah she's close by," I state to myself.
"Who's close by?" Bucky questioned as my gaze went to him as I wrapped my hand around the shaft of the sonic and closed it.
"Nothing," I state putting the sonic back into the inner pocket. "I have to go, but I'll be seeing you again and Steve," my smiled at him but before he could speak I turned around and made my way through the crowd of soldiers still chatting among each other.
I walked passed the tent of where the General was, as the Tardis was nearby. As I turned the corner of the tent, I see the blue box standing in the tree line, waiting for my arrival. But I see a familiar brown haired women, coming around the box like she just examined it.
"Agent Carter?" I frowned as I came over to her, she stopped at the doors and looked up at the 'Police Sign.'
"I have a odd feeling of familiarity," she states in her British accent her eyes never leaving the box.
"Of course you do," I remarked softly under my breath as I had a feeling that this might happen. Maybe having Peggy come inside might want an adventure somewhere or she might tell on me. But it was going to be worth it. "Come on," I gave in and grabbed my key from my inner pocket coming to stand in front of the doors. I placed the key into the slot, but turned my gaze to Peggy. "Promise me that this keeps between us," my voice wasn't raised or was threatening her. It was calm and full of hope.
"I promise," she replied, her accent thick as I offered her a warm smile. I jiggled the key around, an unlocking sound came to ear as I pushed open the door and removed the key. The sweet hum of the console came through my ear as I walked inside, and to the first panel - thinking this is familiar as Peggy had been inside once before. I stare at the door as the light entered from outside, but I see Peggy tilt her head to look inside.
"You coming in?" I asked as her eyebrows rose up in confusion before her body came around, and stood in the door way. Her eyes glanced around the massive Console room of the Tardis. She placed one foot inside as the other one was still out, she was in marvel of the current position she was in. Within moments, she steps fully into the Tardis, gripping onto the metal banister that went full length of the room.
"It's bigger on the inside than the out," Peggy states the facts out as she was in astonishment as she already taken in the Tardis from the outside.
"Think of dimensional engineering," I spoke to Peggy who's eyes never met mine.
"That's impossible," she states in shock as her eyes slowly but surly met mine.
"Maybe for you," I remarked with a smirk tugging on my lips. "Tardis," I continue as her eyes focused on me and the words I was saying. "Acronym for, Time And Relative Dimensions In Space," I see her eyes widen slightly.
"Are you saying this is a spaceship!" She exclaimed, her British accent thick.
"Not just a space ship. A time machine too," I carried on as she looked even more impressed than before. "And I want to offer you a ride. If you want," as the words left my mouth her surprised expression faded like rain water, as she was snapped back into reality.
"I can't just leave, the General will know I've gone," she replies her hand left the banister as she placed her hands in front of her.
"It's a time machine. I can have you back a second we left and no one will know the difference," I ensured Peggy that it will be alright. She took a moment to process her options as it was an offer that people wouldn't dream of nor would think it was real. Peggy's eyes met with mine as I held onto the hope of her saying yes.
"Where and when?" She replied as a smile came to her face as my own lips curled into a smirk. I spun around quickly and pulled down both the red levers simultaneously, the Tardis door shut on its own, as I waltzed round the console. I came to the handbrake and flipped it down, and placed my right hand on the throttle.
"Here we come universe," I smirk to Peggy through the time rotor as she came to the console. I thrusted the throttle down, as the Tardis began to take off. The room shakes as we began our journey into the Time Vortex. Peggy holds a smile on her face, as she was gripping the side of the console, the white lights went around the room.
I hope this adventure doesn't end up making us run for our lives...
