matt's adventure
And here's the flipside of the previous story. It's quite a good one! Still doesn't compare to what I did, y'know...
Be quiet, Kinzie. Hehehe!
"I'm off now. There's food in the fridge and some money on the counter if you like. Enjoy your day!" Matt told Kinzie as he went out the door. He could hear her say "Enjoy your day!" back to him as he closed the door. Wondering what she does while home alone, he went to the elevator and went to the garage in the second floor. He got a call earlier this morning that he had another round of contracts to do, and one possible killing spree if he liked. He got into his car and drove the long distance to Inkopolis Square. Matt always liked that place, even if it was some distance from Moray Towers. After all, it was the main hub for the Inklings, after it changed from Inkopolis Plaza. He parked in a nearby parking garage and paid the 24 hour fee. It seemed like he was gonna have a long day so he didn't want to have a problem later on.
He walked to the Agency, the place where Matt gets his targets. While other... "employees" have personal reasons for doing what they do, Matt just does it for the love of the sport. He's always looking for extra practice and opportunities to improve his aim, even if it is a 100% accuracy rating already. He met up with his friend Nate, who handles the clients and contracts. "Heya, Nate." Matt said as he walked through the door. "Oh, there you are. I got the targets' files. Here." He said as he passed the documents to Matt. He read them over, memorizing all the details. He remembered the killing spree offer suddenly. "Wait, didn't you say I could go ham later?" He said as he raised an eyebrow. "That? Later, once you've cleared those targets, I'll let you know." Matt nodded. "Any extra services they want?" He asked, wondering if he could get paid extra. "Nope. They all want it the old fashioned way." He told him. Matt gave him a thumbs-up and left.
First target was a simple one. Some guy wanted some other guy who caused a problem in his buisness dead. He's currently out in a cafe, taking a break. Matt positioned himself above the ground, at the 13th floor of a nearby building. He looked down and saw the mark. He stepped back and set up his rifle. Inserted the clip, loaded the bullet, all he has to do now is aim. He took the rifle out the window, and aimed it right at the target's aim. He pulled the trigger... headshot. They flopped down onto the table, and everyone freaked out nearby. Matt pulled back and stayed silent. He removed the clip, dissasembled the rifle, and put the parts into his jacket. It's a wonder how he's able to keep it in there. He went to the elevator, descended to the bottom floor, and went out the south exit of the building, away from where the commotion was happening. He then made his way to his next target, someone in a motel.
Once he arrived at the motel, he spotted the mark enter his room. He made sure to stay silent and avoid looking suspicious. He calmly walked to the room, instead of being like almost any other person trying to be stealthy and failing. Once he was there, he peeked at the window to see the target watching the news. It was about Matt's previous target, they seemed to pick it up quickly. Matt recieved a message from Nate. "Hey, I got an extra request from the client for your second target. Says he wants it clean. Can you do that?" It read. "yes" was all Matt used to reply. He knocked on the door. As they opened it up, he pushed them inside. "What the he-" Before he could say it completely, Matt uppercutted him, rendering him unconscious. It didn't spill any blood, so the job was still going smoothly. He took them and started to suffocate them. He woke up, but it didn't matter as Matt killed them quickly. With no traces, Matt stuffed him into his own suitcase and left him there. To avoid looking suspicious again, he jumped out the window and into the balcony so people wouldn't see him coming out of the room. He went down and walked away, another job well done. He checked his watch and saw it was 12pm. Kinzie's usually doing something else at this time, he wondered what...
Matt's third target wasn't clear. All that was stated in the file was to find the target in Midnight Mountain, not too far from Inkopolis. The trip there didn't take too long, Matt took his car back and sped there in 15 minutes. Once there, he parked the car behind a rock that he marked the last time he needed to do something there. As he ascended the mountain, he noticed that there was some weird stuff on the trail up. Particularly, food wrappers, drink cups and other stuff was scattered about. He also saw some building materials leftover from something. As he reached the plateau, he saw a small house. It wasn't like the houses in Inkopolis, it looked like a shack built hastily, almost as if it was just a shelter. "This must be the target. I better keep quiet." He whispered to himself as he tightened his gloves. He entered the house quietly, making sure not to make any noise. Once inside, he looked around. It only had a bedroom and kitchen, so it was pretty messy. Normally, he would be weirded out by it, but all his prior thought froze when he saw who the owner was. It was an Elite Octoling, except she didn't have the kelp, nor the shades. She was still wearing her Octoling armor. She turned around and their eyes met.
"Emily!?" Matt exclaimed as she looked at him. Emily blinked rapidly, before shaking herself out of a trance. "Matt? Is that you?!" She sounded just as shocked as Matt. "Oh my gosh, it's been so long!" She said in surprise as she approached Matt. "B-but, why are you here? Aren't you with Octavio?" He said confusedly. "I know that, but something happened. I heard the Calamari Inkantation." She told him. Matt remembered the second concert the Squid Sisters had in Octo Canyon recently, and felt glad about it. "How have you been surviving out here? And where did you get the time to build all this?" He kept asking questions, before remembering something. "Wait... who wants you dead?" He said while looking at her with an empty expression. She just looked confused before Matt snapped out of it. He may be a killer, but he has morals. If it's a target that's wrong, like someone innocent or young, he wouldn't kill them. Rather, he'd hunt down the client and kill them instead. Now that he realized they want his Octoling ex dead, he got angry. "Emily, you're coming with me. We have buisness to deal with." He told her in a dark tone. "But... this is my house..." She said softly. "I can get you a better place in Inkopolis, somewhere near my place. Instead of just being in this shack and living off scraps." He offered her. Her eyes shone, and she perked up. "Alright! But, what are we gonna do?" She questioned him. "We're gonna find whoever wanted you dead and kill them. Can you handle that?" He asked her. She gave a stern expression and stood at attention like a soldier. "Yes sir!" Matt raised an eyebrow. "Sorry, I'm just used to that. Still weird how I'm finally free..." She trailed off. Matt just patted her head. "Don't worry. You'll be in Inkopolis after this. Now let's go."
They got into Matt's car. He took his phone and called Nate. It didn't take too long before he picked up. "Hello?" "Nate, can you hear me? Who wanted that third contract?" Matt asked him. "Um, let me check... Says here the client's name is Amelie. Any ideas who that is?" Amelie... Matt knew only one person who had a name like that. "Thanks. I'll take it from there." He hung up, leaving Nate thinking he knows what's gonna happen next. Meanwhile, Emily seemed confused about the whole ordeal, but Matt didn't mind. He noticed her armor, which in a place like this wouldn't do. He handed her a spare disguise in the backseat. "Take this. It's a set of clothes you can use. The stuff you've got on right now isn't gonna help. Get to the backseat and put them on. I won't look, I promise." He instructed her. She nodded before crawling to the backseat. True enough, he didn't look because needed to keep his eyes on the road. A quick change later, Emily crawled back to the front seat, wearing an Annaki Facemask, Kensa Coat, and Red Work Boots.
Matt looked at her and nodded. "Perfect. Now, most Inklings aren't gonna notice your hair. They think it's a weird hairstyle, just like the other Octolings that came along." He told her, but was a bit caught off guard by her own question. "There were others!?" She exclaimed. All this time she was living in the mountain thinking she couldn't go when she could've just walked in and no one would notice. Amazing. "Yes, but they're not important right now. What's important is that someone must be trying to get to me by putting a hit on you. And I think I might know who..." He trailed off and squinted his eyes as he looked forward. "Who are you trying to find...?" Emily asked him. "Someone sent me to kill you. Obviously, I'm not gonna do it, so I'll go kill them instead. Got it?" He told her. She just tilted her head before shaking it. "Oh! Got it!" She said enthusiastically. Matt looked back and saw they were at the right place. He parked near a meter and paid for four hours. He checked his watch and found it was 1pm. Must be a long drive, huh? They went inside the building and went to the top floor. Matt had to guide Emily through it, of course. Once there, Matt went up the fire escape to the roof. There, he met the one he needed to deal with. Amelie. A rival assassin. Codename: "Widowmaker".
"Hello, Matthew." She said just to spite Matt. She was dressed in a skin-tight purple bodysuit with a pair of goggles on her head. They were like the Stealth Goggles, except the eyepieces were shorter and were red instead of green. Additionally, there were four eyepieces instead of two. "You know how much I don't like people calling me that. It's just as bad as my middle name- Oh shut it! Why did you put a hit on her!?" He pointed his finger at Emily, who was shocked by the movement. Amelie just laughed and walked toward them. "Because I wanted to mess with you. After all, you two were lovers, remember?" She taunted them. Matt curled a fist before remembering this isn't the right place for this. It'd be too easy for her to have set a trap here. So, he was gonna have to play it cool until he gets the chance to bury her in the ground. "Now, aren't you supposed to kill me? Isn't that your job?" She asked him smugly. "It's our job, but I still do it better than you. Classic's always gonna win." He scoffed. "Let's put that to the test then. Not lethal battle... How about a rap battle then?" She said with a stupid look on her face. Matt's eyebrows raised at the idea. A rap battle? Was she seriously challenging him? He turned his head and looked at her. "You've got yourself a challenge." Meanwhile, Emily was just looking at both of them like she was watching a cutscene in a video game. Matt just walked away and signalled for Emily to follow. He had another challenge, and he sure as hell wasn't gonna lose it.
As they descended the building, Emily had a lot of questions for Matt. "Uh, Matt, who was that?" She asked him in the elevator. He sighed, and looked at her with a sort of defeated look. "That was Amelie. A rival of mine. She's been looking to beat me somehow because while she thinks she's better than everyone else, she hasn't beaten me. Not in killcount, not in skill, nothing. Looks like she wants to take me on in a rap battle, probably because I look like I can't do it. Little does she know I've beaten even Pearl at it..." He explained. "Kills? You kill people?" She sounded nervous while saying that, even though the Octarian army did that as well. "Yes. But rather than use conventional ink weapons, we use guns from the human era. Using blueprints from long ago, we can make the guns they used. My personal favorites are these." He pulled out a pair of Desert Eagles from his jacket. They were gold plated with a chrome handle and trigger. There was a Rockenberg logo on the side of both guns' grips. "Hey, are those mass produced? I've seen that logo." She told him. "No, I just really like Rockenberg. Everything I'm wearing right now is Rockenberg made." True enough, he swapped out his Sea Slug Hi-tops for a pair of Moto Boots. "Oh. But why are you o-" The elevator door opened. Matt quickly hid his guns and exited the elevator followed by Emily. They quickly went back to the car and left.
They arrived at a building on the outskirts of Inkopolis after about an hour. It looked like it led downward instead of upward. Matt parked the car out of view and enabled the cloaking function. The duo exited the car while Matt left a marker to remember where it is. Emily went next to him and gazed at the building. "Matt, where are we?" She asked him. "We're at an underground arena. It's like a venue for rappers to battle. They do 1v1s, so it'll accept us. I've notified them earlier about this, so we just have to walk in. Me, I still have an outfit change to do. You can watch in the audience if you like. She'll be there, I know it." He explained. He dragged Emily in because she still seemed nervous about the whole ordeal. Once inside, the light from outside got weaker as the area lacked windows. Once inside, they entered the elevator that was at the center. The display went through levels -1 to -4 before alighting at level -5.
The elevator door opened and they were met with sort of a stage, and a few rows of seats. There were some Inklings and Octolings there already, some in seats, some standing up and talking with each other. From the looks of it, they were divided between Matt and Amelie. Up on the sides of the stage were two banners. One had Matt's photo on it, the other Amelie's. The stage's top had both their codenames. "Sniper vs Widowmaker", it said. "They must really be looking forward to this, huh?" Emily said, seeing all the things inside. "They know who I am. It's only fair they do it right." Matt replied. He brought Emily to the backstage, where two stations were prepared for both competitors. Matt's station had his outfit, some required props, and a button. Must be a ready signal. He went to it, and eyed the outfit. Looks like they got the right one. A hunter's hat, coat, and replacement shirt. He didn't need to change his pants or his shoes, as they were good enough. He looked to the right at Amelie's station. Unsuprisingly, she was there, already in her correct outfit. Come to think of it, all she really needed to wear extra was a different pair of goggles. The ones she were wearing now had 8 eyepieces rather than 4. She looked at Matt with a smug look, thinking she was gonna win. Matt was gonna prove her wrong. Oh so very wrong. "Emily, get a seat in the audience already. I've got to change." He told to Emily, who was at his side. "Uh-huh." She left the area and went to the audience. Matt on the other hand took his jacket and shirt off, and replaced them with the outfit he was given. He saw a mirror and looked at himself. He looked perfect, like a hunter from Australia's outback. The buzzer went off. The battle's on.
Matt went to the stage curtains, waiting for it to start. Amelie was on the other side, still looking smugly at him. "Good luck, Matthew. You're gonna need it." She told him. Matt just wishes he could punch her right now. But that was gonna have to wait. In time, he'll shut her up permanently. Outside, the announcer was hyping up the crowd. Matt peeked out the curtain to see the crowd really was divided. He spotted Emily on his side. He smiled at the sight of her, as at least there's one friendly face in the crowd. He looked at his hands, and began to do a personality switch. To pull this off, he was gonna have to become his codename personified. He felt a lot more... Australian. "This is it, people! Two of the best face off! It's classic versus modern! The Old Fashioned Killer against The New Tech Assassin! Sniper vs Widowmaker!" The announcer yelled. The competitors came out of the backstage and in front of the crowd. Amelie went in stylishly, showing off her sniper rifle and giving the crowd a flying kiss. Matt on the other hand, simply looked at the crowd, and tipped his hat with a smirk. They looked at each other, and stern looks appeared on their faces. They were both handed microphones, and the music started. It was a track that both Matt and Amelie knew, so they were able to piece good rhymes. The time for thinking was over. It's time to spit it.
"Who's ready for some thunder from down under? / I'm a professional, the rest are bloody bludgers / Never should have ever gotten out of bed, love, / You'll find yourself belly up, boom, headshot!" Matt began rapping while looking her in the eyes. "But I'm not done by a long shot yet / A strapping, handsome rogue but I'll call you drop-dead / I'll make myself a necklace out of your teeth, / 'cause I have a plan to kill everyone I meet!" An evil smile grew on his face from that line. "Crikey! I really make snipin' look easy / 'cause I do it politely with a slight bit of cheeky! / Bushman's rules, set up camp and wait / 'til you peek your head out, then it's apples, mate!" He focused on his words. "When you knock on death's door, I'm the one who answers / But unlike my cohorts I'm the one with standards / So hit me with your best shot, I've always been prepared for it / I love this job, though my parents wouldn't care for it." He finished his verse with a slight taunt. It was Amelie's turn.
"You better call them now and say goodbye / This is the spider's palace, and now you are the fly / You'll never see me coming, there is nowhere to hide / At the time of the kill, I've never felt more alive." Her voice was oddly sultry, but professional. "You've got a rendevous avec la mort / Adeiu mon chou, teu veux mourir encore? / Amateur, I will lure you into my web / And give this "strapping rogue" a beautiful death." She was just as focused as Matt. "One shot, one kill, movement smooth as silk / Merci beaucoup, you've helped to sharpen my skills / Now go to sleep, your fate is written / I'll haunt your dreams, unless you want me in them." While her bars were good, she didn't seem very good with the flow. "The wall behind you, cest magnifique! / A perfect canvas for my masterpiece! / After every battle, this assassin gets paid / Team Fortress peasants, let them eat cake." Her verse was done as well. The crowd's reactions to both verses were displayed, as they were both rooting for each other's combatants. Even Emily was joining Team Sniper in rooting for Matt.
After a small intermission, they were free to throw shade at each other. "You do realize your fancy tech isn't gonna help you, right?" Matt said, slightly salty at her arrogance. "Oh please, like you've got a chance at me." The moment was over, and it was time for the verses. Amelie went first. "I am the sniper who's been updated / Beware my sight, you will never escape it! / My recon visor is the newest tech / I can predict your movement, keeping you in check." Matt snuffed off that line with a thought off wallhacks. "Here's some advice, and later you'll thank me / A venom mine awaits you wherever you flank me / Secondary weapon? Ha! You can keep it! / I can switch to full auto any time I need it." She sounded really arrogant in that one. "I never get angry, I just get even / My aim is steady, and heart barely beatin' / My rifle can charge up twice as fast / Quickscoping is the only way that you can last." 'Seriously? Quickscoping?' Matt thought to himself. "Now listen, this is no place for children / You play on the ground, while I'm scaling buildings / I know that's a hard concept to grapple / Now william-tell-me how you like them apples!" With her verse over, it was Matt's turn again.
"I'll make you dance, you snotty little nance! / You're nothing but a show pony let me see ya prance! / I don't need equipment, I use instinct / You're a glorified wallhack, but I can think!" He started getting aggresive. "Quickscoping works when I'm dishing out the crits / All because I covered you with a jug of piss / When I'm bored of bolt-action, then my bow will do / I'm running out of places to put holes in you!" Matt was really turning up the aggression factor. "When it comes to secondaries, at least I got options / Plus a frying pan to give you a bloody drubbin' / Here's what you and Jane Austen have in common / You're both dead women, no wonder you're rotten!" No holds barred indeed. "Forget about a medic, here's a mercy kill / You murdered your own husband, was that a thrill? / I'm not a crazed gunman, I've got class and manners / Sittin' on the throne like a cozy camper!" He smiled evilly again as he ended his verse. Amelie's turn.
"Out in the wild, you have spent some time / How often have you had to drink piss in your life? / Talk about talent, I've been counting kills / All the while you've been honing your survival skills!" Her bars were losing effect at this point. That wasn't even cooked. "And besides, I've never even heard of an aimbot / Should be in photography with all of my great shots / Ces't vrei, I'll leave a smoking gun / But by the time you see me the job is already done." Yeah, definitely losing heat. "All this time I've been waiting, and patience is a weapon / Careful which window you choose to stick your head in / You need your team because you're weak and slow / When I'm widowmaking, I'll be working alone." Matt squinted his eyes at that third line. "So call your parents, and tell them you love them / They won't like your profession, but it won't be a problem / Soon in time, they'll be smiling wider / When you go back to them and then retire!" That's it, Matt has had it. Everything she just said wasn't even correct. Time to end it.
"You won't be making any widows today / Have youself a Jarate, it's just fresh lemonade! / And mind that little red dot on your forehead / Not your goggles love, the one that means you're dead." True enough, he was pointing his rifle right at her. "Anytime you fire I can follow the trail / You ought to spend time out of doors, you're looking pale / If you wanna build me confidence, it might work / You're making this so easy, I'm getting worse." Now the nails are being hammered into the coffin! "If we're talking crackshots, I've authored the novel / If you want, step right up and I'll give you a gob-full / Bloody hell you're awful, all tech and no talent! / A wasted investment by the terrorists at Talon!" Now for the final verse. "Technically I'm from Scotland, still an Aussie bloke / If you come to the outback, bring along your folks / You can all line up for a headshot conga / Take notes, Amelie, I've been around a lot longer." With that, he ended her. Instead of simply dropping the mic, he threw it at her and broke her goggles. Judging by the crowd's reaction, Matt won this one. Seeing the agitated look on her face, Matt chuckled and taunted her. "Told ya snipin' was a good job." She just angrily ran off backstage. Matt stayed to watch the crowd. It was a good feeling for him.
As Matt stood in front of the crowd, he extended his arms and said something. "And that's how we do it in the bush!" Emily ran up to him and gave him a hug, a big smile on her face. "That was amazing! I never knew you were that good!" Matt chuckled before taking off his hat and switching back to his regular personality. "Well, there's a lot you've missed. Let's go. We're not done yet." He looked over at the curtain before walking toward it, Emily following suit. They went in and were met with Amelie pacing around angrily. She saw them, and Matt just smiled smugly. "Look who it is! The one who failed miserably at trying to beat me in a rap battle!" He said with a tone of victory. She just walked up to him and tried to slap him. He dodged by leaning backward. "You think I'll get hit by something like that?" He raised an eyebrow. She was getting angrier by the second. "That's it! You, me, the warehouse! 9pm! If you're not there I'm gonna-" She was cut off by Matt rolling his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, whatever. I'll be there. Let's go, Emily." He took his outfit and left with Emily. She stuck her tounge out to mock Amelie. They went back up the elevator and went into the car.
As Matt was starting the ignition, Emily wondered something. "Hey, Matt, what time is it?" He checked his watch. "Oh, it's about 8pm. Why?" He replied. "Can we go to somewhere we can eat? I'm hungry..." She told him. Matt did feel kinda peckish, so he agreed. "How about pizza? It's pretty good." He recommended to her. "Yeah! I like that! They're left at the mountain near my house sometimes..." She trailed off at the end. Matt simply started the car and drove off, away from the building. As they entered mainland Inkopolis, the time struck 8:30. Matt drove to a pizza place near where they came from. They both ordered a pepperoni and cheese pizza. In a few minutes it was given to them and they left, heading for an abandoned warehouse where Amelie would be waiting. They finished off the pizza and Matt focused on driving. As soon as they got there, Matt checked his watch again. 8:55. She'll be here any minute now. Matt exited the car but told Emily to stay there. He simply leaned against the car, as if putting himself up as a target. Emily took Matt's phone and started looking through it to avoid boredom. She saw Squid Beatz 2 was on it, so she started playing.
Suddenly, Matt's senses were tingling. Quickly, he activated his Bullet Time powers and forced the world into slow motion. With that, he saw the incoming bullet headed for his face. He grabbed it and deactivated the power. 7.62x3.5mm rifle bullet. He moved his eyes past it and saw Amelie's sniper rifle smoke trail. He tossed the bullet into the air, and on the way down flicked it. The bullet inside went flying toward Amelie, who dodged when she saw it coming. She lined up for another shot, but was surprised to see only the car there. She heard footsteps behind her and turned around, but it was too late and she was grabbed by Matt from behind. He threw her through the doors of the warehouse and jumped to it. She stood up quickly to be met with Natt cracking his knuckles. He threw a quick punch that she dodged. She countered with a side kick, but Matt parried it and countered with a kick of his own that landed, knocking her to the ground with a thud. She opened her eyes to see Matt about to ground pound her with his foot, and rolled to the side to avoid a hit. She struck Matt in the head with a punch, but it barely fazed him. To counter, he grabbed her back and headbutted her right in the nose. She staggered back and clutched it, not seeing Matt following up with an uppercut to send her downward. She was knocked down, but not out yet. She could barely get up after a few seconds. Amelie shook herself awake and ran away. Matt simply took his rifle, reassembled it, and tracked her path. She was running in a straight line, as if beelining for the election. With steady aim and a barely beating heart, Matt focused on Amelie's head. He breathed in, breathed out... He squeezed the trigger. It hit her in the back.
She froze for a moment before falling to her knees. She looked down at the hole in her chest, defeated. Matt slowly walked up to her and spoke to her. "Here's a touching story. Once upon a time, you died and I lived happy ever after. The end." He smirked at her, reveling in her final moments. To finish the job fully, Matt took out one of his Desert Eagles, pointed it straight at her, and shot her dead. He laughed at the corpse of his enemy. He took her sniper rifle, disassembled it, and brought it with him for reverse engineering. He met Emily back at the car, who was still trying to beat Squid Beatz 2. He went to the car's trunk and tossed the gun in. He went back and said hello to Emily. "Oh, you're back! How'd it go!" Emily asked. "Great. She's dead now." He said witout changing expression. Emily looked to the right nervously, before looking back at him. "I mean, us Octolings splatted others, but we didn't straight up kill them..." She said with a worried tone. "Don't worry, you won't have to do any of it as long as I'm around." He reassured her.
Suddenly, a bullet hit Matt in the arm, causing him to stagger back. He looked to the left and saw Ameilie still alive. "It's not gonna be that easy to kill me!" She yelled out. She shot Matt a few more times, all of them landing. He fell to the ground, bleeding out. One more shot was fired that hit him in the head, finishing the job. Emily shrieked from the car, but Amelie was simply chuckling to herself. "Look who's on top now, Matthew!" She yelled out. "C'est la vie, Sniper!" She followed up, all her words in a victorious tone. Suddenly, she heard an electric crackle behind her. From the shadows emerged Matt, his Dead Ringer in hand. He closed it and smiled. "Sorry to pop in unannounced." She tried to turn her gun and shoot him, but it was too late. Matt dashed at her and grabbed her. He headbutted her twice before throwing her to the side. Another dash and he kicked her twice, then grabbed her leg. He slammed her onto the ground forward and backward repeatedly before embedding her into the floor with a heavy strike. He then took her and forced her into the ground so hard, it opened up and shot her into the warehouse below. Matt jumped in and landed on her with his elbow. He looked back at her and saw she was in a critical condition. Time to end this.
He activated his Mag size upgrade, making him about 7 times his size. With one hand, he picked her up, then started squeezing her with both his hands. Then he threw her up in the air and clapped, Amelie getting struck by it. He finished it by throwing her back down onto the ground and stomping her with his boot, killing her permanently. No faking her death this time. He shrank back down and looked at her corpse. Crushed and bloody. He chuckled, a job well done. He remembered he was still shot, and took a medkit from his jacket. He patched up the bullet wounds and left the warehouse, going back to the car. Inside, he found Emily, cowering in terror. She was in her seat, shaking while terrified. He opened the car and got in. She looked at him and blinked her eyes. "But... but... you died! Right in front of my eyes!" She yelled at him. He simply pulled out his Dead Ringer and showed it to her. "This little number lets you fake your death. It's gotten me out of a lot of situations." He explained. "You'll be fine, don't worry. She was the only one actually gunning for me. Everyone else just minds their buisness at the Agency." He continued while starting the car. Emily finally calmed down, and leaned back into her seat. Matt drove them both back to Moray Towers.
He checked his watch when he arrived and saw it was 10:50. He parked in the garage and woke up Emily, who fell asleep on the trip. "Wakey wakey, sleepyhead. You'll be able to sleep later." He undid her seatbelt and helped her out. She was half asleep, but was woken up by the door into the actual apartments hitting her face. Matt had let it go by accident and it nailed her in the face. "Sorry! Won't happen again, I promise!" He apologized. She was too tired to care. Matt led her to Moray Towers' basement. Rather than being a normal, drab basement, Matt had converted it in secret into a base of operations. There were things like weapon lockers, technology, and a bedroom for long days. Matt helped Emily into bed, but on the way there, she kissed him. "Thanks, Matt. For everything." She told Matt, looking him in the eyes. He chuckled. "Not a problem. Just happy to help." He replied with a smile. As soon as she was properly in bed, she fell asleep instantly. Matt just turned off the lights and left.
He climbed the stairs to the 30th floor and went to Apartment 3013. Matt unlocked his apartment door and went inside. He checked his watch and found it was 11:30. "Kinzie must be asleep by now. I should probably stay quiet." He whispered to himself. He quietly took off his Moto Boots and put them on the shoe rack. He carefully walked to Kinzie's room to find her soundly sleeping. "Wonder what she did today..." He thought to himself. As he left her room, he stepped in a puddle. He looked down at his foot to find blue ink. "Dammit Kinzie... I'm gonna have to clean up tomorrow, aren't I?" He complained to himself. He took a shower, put on his pajamas, and went to his bedroom. Before going to bed however, he looked out over his bedroom's balcony. Inkopolis was mostly asleep at this point, but he could still see lights turned on and Inklings and Octolings walking around the streets of the city. It was a great view. He even saw a few Inkling and Octoling couples down there. Guess they must really be getting along. He closed the window, got into bed, and fell asleep, knowing his day went well, and he reunited with an old acquaintance.
