2. Stray Dog

Tristan Haines. A boy who spent his time teasing and joking around with me. Mostly in chemistry seeing as I was conveniently put as his new lab partner.

I'd be lying if I said that he had no effect on me. But he did. I was always looking forward to going to chemistry to find him already sitting there and looking at the door as if he was waiting for me too. Get over yourself Ghost.

He was definitely one of those heartbreaking boys who you fell for right away because of their charming good looks and gorgeous smile. I didn't want my heartbroken, especially by Tristan Haines.

But I could tell that some part of me wouldn't mind getting my heart broken if I could get a little taste of the Haines boy. Damn it. Stop Ghost! He's definitely not good for you.

"So got a boyfriend yet?"

"What?" I squeaked out.

"I bet all the boys are lining up for you." Natalie grinned as she stuck her large spoon in the cookie dough ice cream.

"No one is lining up for me." But somehow, Ghost kept thinking of him. Tristan Haines. Captain of the football team.

"Come on, there has to be one boy, you find remotely cute."

"Nope there's none." I said stealing the ice cream tub away from her and running away from her.

It was raining. Dumb Monday mornings.

It had only been a week since I started Ashville High and I was already dumped with mass amounts of homework. So I stayed up late and barely got any sleep.

"Dumb Monday mornings," I muttered stepping into puddles and holding tightly onto my umbrella so it wouldn't fly away.

Aunt Natalie had to get to work early this morning so I had to walk to school in the dumb stupid rain.

A soft bark came from beside me and I turned to find a small puppy sitting in a soaking brown box that was filling up with the rain. It was a small Labrador that was left alone to fend for itself.

"Who left you all alone mister?" I asked him, putting on that voice that everyone does when speaking to animals and babies.

The small puppy responded by licking my hand and snuggling his matted fur into my hands. I lifted the box up and sat him under a tree and placed my umbrella over him so he would get less wet. I really wanted to take him home but there was one big problem.

Aunt Natalie was allergic.

Why would some assholē leave such a cute little pup alone in the rain. The box was marked in black writing that said free to a good home. Tears began to brim my eyes as I made myself back away from the barking dog and willed myself to walk the path towards school.

I didn't care that my whole body was freezing cold and my clothes were soaked all the way through. I just cared about that homeless little puppy.

A horn beeped beside me and I turned to see the familiar black Porsche driving at the same speed my feet were taking me. The window went down and Tristan's face popped out. "Get in!"

I did as I was told and apologised for getting his car all wet then thanked him for giving me a lift.

"Don't worry about it, I couldn't have just left you out there to freeze." He said smiling at me.

Normally I would have smiled back but I couldn't find it in me to do such a thing when I kept thinking of that little puppy out there in the cold. Tristan must have caught on that something was wrong when I didn't smile and stopped the car abruptly making me fall forward. Thank god for seat belts.

"What are you trying to do kill us?!" I shouted at him.

"What's wrong?" He asked softly.

"N-nothing. Nothing is wrong!" I shouted again then lowered my voice again. "Nothing..."

The tears were finally falling from my eyes and I tried to turn to the window but Tristan grabbed my chin and pulled me closer to him. "Tell me what is wrong Ghost."

The tingling sensation spread over me once again as his thumb held my chin and his eyes held my gaze. I couldn't help but burst into tears and tell him what was wrong.

"There's a little puppy out there and he's all alone and he's all wet and he's homeless and he's so cute and I can't take him home because Aunt Natalie is allergic and some assholē didn't have the decency to hold onto him whilst they found him a home but they just put him in a crappy little box and left him out to freeze and-"

"Breathe." Tristan told me.

I did as he said. And then I found his strong muscular arms wrap themselves around me and I couldn't help but shiver at the contact of his chest pressed into mine. It felt nice. Warm. Home.

Somehow I had calmed down fast as he hugged me but I was still sad the whole day at school. Every minute Tristan kept asking me if I was okay and I answered with the same I'm fine.

I was actually fine though, hugging him felt great and I couldn't help but feel excited about the next one. Wait what?

"Class remember your essays are due in on Wednesday don't forgot." Mrs Charles informed once again.

"How could I forgot?" Bennet Chapman huffed which happened to be one of Tristan's friends.

I snickered at him. "I'm pretty surprised she's not been on your case about the last one that was due last Friday that your supposed dog ate."

"But Rover did eat my essay honestly." He said seriously but I could tell he was lying.

"Whatever you say." I told him grabbing my bag and walking to my next class.

I stopped to find Rachel talking to Tristan in a very suggestive manner. With her tight top and her big boobs bouncing in his face and her long tanned legs stretched towards him. Bitch.

"It's disgusting isn't it?" I heard a familiar voice say beside me.

Effie was standing giving me a sad smile, "I still can't figure out why my sister follows her around."

Effie's sister Tasha, was one of the four girls who'd watch her sister be bullied but never had guts to stand up for her because she hated her and didn't care that it was hurting her sister.

"Haven't you told your parents about them?"

"My parents?" She repeated, holding a hand to her chin as if she was deep in though. "No they more or less ignore me anyway."

"Parents suck."

She nodded her head in agreement.

When I looked back to Tristan and Rachel, she went to kiss him but he stopped her and pushed her away looking angry at her and then they both looked at me which made me feel uneasy. Where they talking about me?

Rachel had stomped off and Tristan began walking towards me still looking pîssed and suddenly grabbed my body and hauled me into his chest. His head dipped into my neck and he breathed my scent in. Ummm weird.

"Tris... What's going on?"

He suddenly let me go and began blushing, furiously scratching the back of his neck and began stuttering, "ehh I erm I just wanted to say hi."

I was also blushing. Our second hug today. Our second hug ever!

The bell rang indicating for students to go to their next class.

"Bye." We both said simultaneously and walked our separate ways which happened to be in the same direction so we basically walked together with Effie giggling at the both of us.

It was half twelve and I'd fallen asleep after beginning to write the essay for Mrs Charles class but when I woke up with the paper stuck to my face I knew I'd barely wrote more than my name. The repeated tapping on my window was what woke me up.

I opened my curtains and then my window to find Tristan on the ground holding the same Labrador from this morning. I beamed at that and told him to go through the front door because Natalie was not back from work yet as she said she had a lot of work to do which probably meant having sex with her boss on top of his desk.

"Hi."

I smiled at him and he put the puppy on the floor and the puppy ran towards me. His coat was soft and shiny compared to the matted dirt it was this morning and his neck had a small red collar around it.

"I decided that it's time for a new addition to the Haines family." Tristan said as he sat on my bed and looked up at me.

"W-why?" I asked, not that I wasn't happy, I was delighted in fact.

"Because I felt like it." He grinned. "I've been thinking of a name all day but I couldn't find the right one."

I sat down next to him, close enough that our knees were touching and the tingling feeling was there again but I didn't ignore it. I embraced the feeling. "How about Caspar?"

"He's friendlier than you, that's for sure."

"Hey I'm friendly."

"Oh yeah? Well the first time we met, you got spaghetti all over me." He said arching his brown.

"In my defence that was not my fault."

"No it wasn't." His voice seemed angry when he said that.

I watched the dog run around my room and began to lean my head on Tristan's shoulder which I felt tense but suddenly relax. "Thanks Tris." I said tiredly my eyes growing heavy again.

"Goodnight Princess."
