43. VALERIA: LIES WITHHOLD
David's eyes widened when we entered the room. He pushed the doctor away and was on his feet the next instant. Of course, the moment he stepped forward his less gave way beneath his weight. Devon rushed past me to help the doctor get David back onto the bed. He didn't look away from me. The fear I saw in his eyes was disturbing. I moved closer to the bed and stopped next to Devon.
"She's not injured," he told David. "Our little mate took out a shifted rogue and one who tried to carry her off."
"You killed them?" David asked.
His eyes trailed over me from head to toe. I was curious to see what he saw. On our way here a lot of pack members had stopped to stare. I was covered in blood, I knew that. But weren't they used to seeing others covered in blood since they usually fight? I told David what I told Alark and Devon as the doctor continued to patch him up. When I was done the room fell silent. The men had warned me not to mention the fact that I could grow claws and fangs.
They wanted to figure out what caused it first before we allowed anybody to know. What happened was a mystery—a mystery we all wanted to solve.
The doctor called Devon aside when he was done. I stared at them as they walked towards the door until they disappeared. My eyes snapped over to David when he reached out to grip my hand. He stared down at it for a few seconds before glancing up at me again but then his eyes dropped to where he stared at the blood-soaked shirt for a full minute before catching my eyes with his again.
"He tried to grab you?" I nodded. "And you killed him?"
"Yeah."
"And the shifted rogue?"
"He was going to kill Devon."
David gave my hand a sharp tug. I stepped forward until my hips hit the bed. To my surprise, he cupped my cheek and smashed his lips down on top of mine. The kiss didn't last long. He pulled away again. My eyes widened when I saw the glister of tears in his eyes. David was about to cry. I reached up to cup his cheek.
"Don't cry," I whispered. "We're okay."
He leaned into my touch and squeezed his eyes closed. "Yeah, but I could've lost both of you. I wasn't there to protect you. I—"
"You were there. I need to tell you something."
The door opened and Devon entered. His eyes darted between us before settling on David. The relief I saw in his grey eyes made me smile. I couldn't wait to experiment, but for that to happen, David had to heal first. My eyes dropped to his arm in the sling. Alark had filled us in on our way here. He had instructed the doctor to start David on the healing drug immediately.
With the doctor gone and the door firmly closed, Devon explained in detail how exactly I had killed the shifted man. David was surprised but it only lasted about ten seconds before he smiled and praised me. He had pulled me closer to him to inspect the tip of my fingers and my teeth.
They both had a few theories as to why it suddenly happened. I added a few of my own which caused the men to laugh at me. In the end, we decided it was because of all their blood they had fed me and my desperation.
It was either fight or get killed. I chose to fight. Devon wanted to speak to the elders. He wanted to tell the whole pack, but I was very reluctant.
Maybe knowing that I had some Lycan abilities would help them accept me as their Alpha Female, but I wasn't ready to be questioned and experimented on. David had pointed that out. Thankfully he was on my side.
In the end, I talked Devon into keeping my little secret between the three of us. Alark had stopped by shortly after our discussion ended. Devon asked him to keep quiet about it to which he agreed. He said that he also talked to his men who had seen me. They swore to keep silent.
We learned that Wrin had called Alark when we didn't arrive on time, and Alark had sent men out to search and that was when they found the truck. When they realized what had happened, Alark had instantly started searching. We were lucky that they found us when they had. Things could've ended up a lot worse.
Apart from a few bruises and scratches, I was absolutely fine. My legs and feet ached a little but it was nothing too bad. Devon had suffered a broken rib along with some bruises and scratches.
We spend a night in the hospital, and early the next morning we were escorted back home by Alark and his men. All the high ranking members and the elders were waiting for us outside the house. Alark had informed them about what happened. Devon cancelled the meeting the elders had called and escorted us upstairs. I made a beeline for the master bedroom. I wanted to take a shower to wash away the smell of the hospital.
I entered the bathroom and undressed before climbing into the shower. The water was cold but it heated fast. I washed my hair and then reached for the soap. Before I reached it, the shower door opened and Devon entered. I frowned at him when he didn't close it behind him, but my frown cleared when David stepped into view. He kicked his pants away and then got in the shower with us.
The door slid closed, closing off the outside world.
Devon grabbed the soap and lathered his hands before handing it to David who did the same before placing it down again. I sucked in a breath when they stepped on either side of me and started washing my body. Devon in front and David at my back. They washed every inch of my body.
I smirked and decided to turn the cards on them. I slipped from between their bodies and moved behind Devon. He turned and glanced down at me with a raised eyebrow. My smile widened. Reaching for the soap, I lathered my hands and held it out to David. He hesitated but took it from me. I placed my hands on Devon's chest and soaped his skin before moving lower to his pebbled nibbles. He groaned when my nails raked them.
My eyes darted over his shoulder to glance at David. He nibbled his bottom lip. Fear held him immobile. He wanted to wash Devon, I could see it in his eyes, but he feared his reaction. His eyes locked with mine. I gave him a small nod as I slid my hands down Devon's chest to his abdomen. One hand slipped lower to rest just above his dick just and David pressed his hands to Devon's back.
I felt him tense.
My stomach constricted as I waited for him to storm away. Devon's eyes fluttered and then opened to lock with mine. I gave him an encouraging smile. It took a few seconds for his body to relax again. I kept my hands in place as David washed his back. My eyes dropped to watch David's hands. They slid down his sides to his hips. He hesitated before slipping them lower and then up again.
There was just something about watching his big hands on Devon's body. Desire hit fast and hard. I wanted to take things further. David seemed to read my mind. He stepped closer as his hand slid to the front of Devon's body. His muscles clenched and his breathing sped up slightly. My eyes dropped to his dick when it twitched. A drop of pre-cum covered the tip. He liked having David's hands on him.
"Do you want me to keep touching you?" David asked softly against his ear.
Devon shivered. His eyes snapped up to mine. It wasn't easy to figure out what he was thinking. I kept my face open so it was easier for him to read my emotions. He gave a hesitant nod. David pressed his lips against Devon's shoulder. His hands stayed frozen on Devon's lower stomach as he placed open mouth kisses against his shoulder and neck.
I pulled my hands from his body but he didn't seem to realize that I had taken a step back. Devon's eyes were closed. His body shook slightly, but he didn't push David away. My eyes dropped to his hands when he finally moved them. Slowly up and down. Devon sucked in a sharp breath when David's hand wrapped around his dick.
He gripped him firmly and then started stroking him. Slowly, up and down. His thumb rubbed around the rim of his head before collecting the bead of pre-cum. My mouth fell open when his other hand slid around and down to cup Devon's balls. The moan couldn't be held in any longer. It slipped from his lips and echoed around the bathroom. The heat inside me rose. It was hot watching David touch Devon. It was hot seeing the way they reacted to each other.
"Get on your knees, doll," David ordered roughly.
I eagerly moved forward. Slipping onto my knees in front of Devon, I stared up at them.
"Part your lips for us."
I parted my lips and moved closer. David's hand moved faster. Devon's moans increased. He threw his head back and cried out as he exploded. I leaned up and wrapped my lips around the head of his dick as he started to shoot his load. His salty taste assaulted my senses. A hand slid into my hair and encouraged me to suck harder.
"Enough," Devon breathed. "No more."
I pulled away and smiled up at him. "Now it's my turn."

Everything was a mess.
The elders were blaming me for all the attacks the pack has suffered. One of them created a timeline as evidence to point out how many times the pack had been attacked since the time I arrived. Devon's father was right there to back him up. I bet a thousand dollars that it was he who talked the man into creating the timeline. We had a third of the pack on our side and the rest on those of the elders, and Devon's father.
Some of the attacks were probably my vault, but not all of them. I wasn't responsible for the first attack before Christmas, or the one at the cabin, or the one where I almost got kidnapped. I never planned it. Someone in the pack gave away information that was supposed to stay in the pack. We had a traitor in our midst and it was important to find and destroy whoever it was.
It didn't help the fact that we received another threat this morning.
This threat was meant for me. My life for those of their pack.
Of course, the threat pissed them off. They refused to leave my side—not that I was complaining. I liked having them around.
With everything that's been happening since we woke up this morning, there was no time to discuss what had happened last night. They've been avoiding talking to each other but I saw the glances they gave each other. They loved it but neither of them was ready to admit it.
We had to be prepared for another attack. They could attack again at any time.
I sat behind Devon's desk and pulled the notebook closer to me. They were in another meeting with the elders in the room opposite. Wrin was keeping watch in the hall. I stared at the paper for a few seconds before picking up the pen.
Install motion detectors at the borders and near important places.
Install cameras.
Install silent alarms.
Train some women who are willing to learn how to fight.
Find a safe place for the kids and elder women to hide in case of an attack.
Do it all without the traitor finding out.
I placed the pen down on top of the paper and leaned back in the chair. This was all I was able to come up with at the moment. Everybody needed to work together. We needed to fight alongside each other. Safety was our first priority. Everybody needed to have a way of protecting each other including the children. I picked up the pen again.
Teach the children how to fight/protect themselves.
The phone at my elbow suddenly started to ring. My body jerked in fright. I stared at it but made no move to pick it up. It was probably a call for Devon anyway.
How much longer before their meeting ends? What more was there to discuss?
I sighed and stood. When I opened the office door, Wrin was right there. He raised an eyebrow at me in question.
"I'm going down to the kitchen to get something to eat."
"I'll come with you," he muttered. "Don't argue with me."
I smiled at him. "I wasn't planning on it."
"Good."
Only Wrin knew about the pregnancy. I felt it was only right for him to know why I was sent to stay with Mel and Alark. He was shocked and hurt. Wrin was very hurt that we didn't trust him enough to tell him, but in the end, he understood why we kept it silent.
A part of me still ached for what we had lost but the other part was happy about it. What has been happening only proved how bad it was to start a family right now. We needed people we could trust around our kids.
"How are you feeling today?"
I glanced at him over my shoulder. "Is this going to become a habit?"
"Why? Do you have a problem with it?"
"No, just want to be prepared." I headed for the stairs. "That way I'll have my answers prepared before you start asking questions."
Wrin laughed and fell into step beside me.
We walked in comfortable silence until we reached the first floor. People stopped and turned to stare as we walked past them. The silence that followed me was disturbing. I hated it, but it was better than the whispers. Maybe one day they will respect me. I still needed to prove myself at them, and I would. That day would come sooner or later.
I was no longer going to bow my head in fear.
My mates wouldn't always be around to fight my battles for me. I might be half-human but that didn't make me weak. I was a fighter. I was strong, and I would show them all that they weren't superior to me just because they had stronger bloodlines.
We were all equal.
