Chapter 6

It seems Mrs Phipps knew nothing about Fiona's adoption. She didn't even know for whom she called the doctor. But the moment she came to know that Kate adopted Fiona to get back at Ivory the house had a meeting.

It seems Ivory who was second in number was mated to Tony. And, Kate wanted to make things difficult for her after learning Tony was interested in a blonde girl. It didn't take much for Kate to realize that Fiona was her stepsister and wanted to make things difficult for Ivory.

Kate and Ivory both had a kind of hold on the house. Kate and Ivory were twins. But Kate is the one who came out first and was the future elder of the family because they didn't have any male siblings. And, Ivory was meant to be the future Luna of their pack. Fiona was sitting at the table and Mrs Phipps had forgotten all about what mess her daughters made in the house. She was only looking at Fiona and wondering what damsel her mother would have been. No doubt her husband lost interest in her.

"If she stayed in this home I will burn this whole house down." Ivory punched on the dining table but Kate only smirked. "There is only much you can do about it, Ivory. The orphan house has closed down and I have no intention to let my sweet sister go."

"I will kill her," Ivory seethed and Kate shrugged, "Better, don't worry I will marry Tony when they will put you behind the bars..." Ivory was quick to growl again and Mrs Phipps got out of her place and slapped Chelsea. "It was you who came with this idea, didn't you?"

"Kate, you so want to keep this shit here, don't you? You can keep her. And, Ivory?..." Mrs Phipps looked at her daughter Ivory before suggesting. "...I will make sure that Tony will never look at her. Isn't it better that you can make this girl disappear?"

"What are you suggesting?" Ivory asked and Fiona had her heart drop. She could tell that the moon goddess had gotten back at her.

"Do you think Tony will look at her if she stopped having something you don't have?"

"What do you mean? What does she have? I don't know why Tony looks at her..."

"Her golden hair my girl, the same hair that no one in this pack has..." But then Mrs Phipps walked to Fiona and pulled her hair. She had some strands of Fiona's hair in her fingers and continued, "...listen, you little shit...I want your head shaved in the morning. And, there is no way in hell that you will walk out of the cellar. Tony will be gone for his training in a month and I don't want you to step out or have any guests have a look at you. Do you agree?"

Fiona only stared at the woman who spoke of nothing but insecurity. It wasn't the first time she was told that she was beautiful but now she was to live with eight female wolves. Somewhere that was no less than a madhouse.

That night Chelsea came to give her a razor and asked Fiona to do it in front of her. If the devil ever wanted to be reborn it was Chelsea. She was only twelve years old and was the only wolf who had white fur in the whole pack. She knew she was meant for something big and deserved better always. She had always sided with Kate while her own twin, Beatrice had always sided with Ivory.

Never in the million years has Fiona thought about finding herself in such a spot. She cried the whole night. She didn't know how to face anyone without her hair. But now she was even more convinced that it was the moon goddess punishing her. The feeling of having no one besides her was even more evident now. Walking out of the cellar when she was called at the breakfast table she felt naked with no hair on her head.

"How are you feeling now?" Mrs Phipps asked and every one of them laughed at the table. Fiona had tears in her eyes in an instant. "I am asking about your wound. Is it healing fine?" Mrs Phipps asked but she too couldn't contain her laugh at the end.

"Look you little shit, I am a busy woman. So, you answer me the moment I ask you something. Handling my seven girls is a task. And, adding a slut like you. I didn't have any option but to make it easy for all of us. At least, now I will know that you are not messing with any guy. You see no one here is like your mother. We are noble people here."

Chelsea took all of the clothes that Fiona brought from the orphan house and gave her some old worn-out t-shirts. Fiona had to learn how to do the laundry. They had two maids and Mrs Phipps fired one and asked Fiona to be of some use.

Fiona was allowed to go to school and she always wore a scarf. Even with the scarf, her eyes would stand out. But Chelsea knew exactly what to do. And, she removed it when all of the kids were out playing on the ground. Chelsea spread that she has some kind of disease that had gotten all of her hair. No one wanted to be friends with the odd girl. But Chelsea being Chelsea collected money for her treatment.

Every night Chelsea would walk down to the cellar and ask Fiona to shave her head. Fiona always had her lunch, fee and training balance nil. If it wasn't for their maid, Sofia, Chelsea wanted to starve her to death. Mrs Phipps didn't care as long as Fiona looks loathsome. Kate left the home for the training after a few months. Ivory after making sure that Tony won't look at her now didn't care. If anything Ivory was calmed by the fact they had control over Fiona.

Triplets only knew how to make a mess in the home. And, though in the start they would get the scolding. Now, only Fiona was asked what she was doing when the little ones were making a mess. Chelsea made sure that the little triplet set know Fiona was not one of them.

Though Fiona kept blaming it all on her. Or how it was the moon goddess punishing her, not hating Chelsea was hard. Fiona hardly paid any attention in the class but aced her exams. Not her fault that all the other kids were plain stupid.

But it only got one more verdict from the house. She was to never draw attention. Even if it means she has to do less in the exam. Chelsea could always feel that there was something different about Fiona. She was remarkably intelligent. As if she wasn't a beta but a superior Alpha. Chelsea would even hate how her eyes looked and bought her black shade eye lens.

Fiona never said no to Chelsea. If she asked her to shave her head she would do it. If she asked her not to eat she would follow. Though Fiona knew all too well she was coming close to turning she didn't want to admit it. She was going to be ten years old. Sofia kept telling her that she should eat well or she will find it very hard to turn. But to her every trouble she knew Sienna went through more because of her. She wanted to accept every misery coming to her way. She was convinced she deserved it.

That night, Fiona couldn't help but close her eyes and imagine how it would have been for her if that one day never happened. She was going to have a specialist check on her food, health and transition. They were going to celebrate her turn and going to make sure she was fine. But now she was all alone. And, didn't even have the blessings from the moon goddess, to say the least.

Fiona didn't make a single prayer in these four years. She was convinced that she won't turn for how much the moon goddess hated her.

But it was as if nothing was on her side. On her first full moon after she turned ten she turned in the cellar. Fiona felt weak and pained. She couldn't even keep one paw ahead of the first. And, the moment she looked at the mirror she couldn't help shedding a tear. She almost looked like Troy. She was a golden she-wolf. Just like her brother. She indeed looked like Troy's sister. Not a single other colour tainted her fur. It was as if she could almost look at Troy in this form. Even the thought of Troy and Sienna was enough to make her shiver. She wonders why she was blessed with this gift when she doesn't deserve anything good in her life.

Chelsea had her eyes on her but that night she wasn't home and had a party with her friends. And, it was nothing less than a blessing for Fiona. She knew that if any of them get to know she has golden hair for her wolf she will invite even more trouble.

A lot had changed in these four years. The dark feral pack had better homes, schools and training grounds. Cellphones were more common here too now. After ten, most of the werewolves start doing some job. Though none of the other Phipps girls did any. Fiona was quick to ask for permission. And, though Chelsea was against the idea Mrs Phipps was of the view that it would keep Fiona away from their home. Her girls were growing and they had important guests coming to the packhouse and in neighbours. Fiona was permitted on the pretext of having it somewhere far.

Fiona was convinced that she would start the first job she would land. To her dismay it was a pizza delivery job. Chelsea would always keep her eye on her. And, Fiona wasn't allowed to take one minute more than necessary. The talks had already started about whether she had turned or not. People called her weak and it was common knowledge that she doesn't even know how to do the defence. Going to school was a scary job for her when she was seen as a weak one. And, Fiona couldn't disagree. She had never once trained or talked with her wolf. She had felt her presence in her but even Fiona knew that her wolf didn't want to talk to her.

Mrs Phipps could tell that she hasn't turned. For how weak she was she knew no good family will accept her for their son. Fiona dyed her hair black and asked Mrs Phipps if she can grow her hair if she keeps it black. She tried to tell her how her scarf and baldness attract more attraction.

Beatrice and Chelsea were of the view that she was trying to play but Mrs Phipps knew that it didn't matter now. Fiona didn't have good marks to get to any high school. She didn't have the skills developed for training or battle ground. Heck, she didn't even know what her field was when it comes to fighting and was past her age of turning. While on the other hand, Beatrice and Chelsea were more interested to bully Fiona than going out and making good connections for better proposals in marriage.

"You are allowed to grow your hair but you have to keep it black, they won't reach your shoulders and you will hand over ninety per cent of your earnings to me." At this point, Fiona wonders why she was even doing a job. But she knew she had to start from somewhere. And, not having hair wasn't going to help her in landing any kind of stable job. She didn't want to end up at the delivering job. She didn't want any position where she has to communicate with anyone.

Fiona was twelve when it was announced how this time Aiden, the youngest prince will come to the ball that is arranged in the capital to help find one's, fated mate. The news even reached dark feral. Mrs Phipps sent her triplets too for the ball along with Chelsea and Beatrice.

All the girls who didn't have their mates found yet were free to join. Fiona on the other hand was the only girl in their whole pack who stayed in her cellar or delivered pizzas.

Jared did write her a few letters but she never replied to them. They were always first read by Chelsea who advised her to never write back. Fiona too didn't want to have any connections with someone who had any ties with the capital.

Coming back from her job Fiona would always have an hour to roam in the wild. She would ride her old rusted cycle to the highest point and look at the moon. Wondering if Troy, Sienna and her parents were really in hell. They always seemed fine in her dreams and had smiles on their face. But Fiona was convinced it couldn't be the case and it was only her mind making things up. This constant reminder that she was to join her family in hell in the never-ending agony had her in fits sometimes.

If anything Fiona had learned, it was to never draw attention. Mrs Phipps would always ask her not return to home if they had any guests coming. She spend her nights in the wilds when Ivory was wed to Tony. Kate got married too to a beta. The pack Kate was married into was near to the capital and she had images all over her social media about her high-end life. One of the triplets, Mia got her mate too leaving Beatrice and Chelsea even more resentful.

The duo had Fiona to play with. And, it was as if they wanted drama they sent Fiona to the pack house when they knew she will come across Mrs Phipps there. Though Fiona could tell they were setting her in a trap she didn't have any option but to walk right into that trap. She knew they wanted to drama and trouble for her. Because going to Tony's place was a big no for her.

Fiona waited for any maid to appear out of the house but it seems they didn't have many to have someone attend to the visitors. Fiona walked in to look for the luna of the pack who was now Ivory. After learning Ivory too wasn't there and went shopping Fiona was coming out and noticed Mrs Phipps. She was with Alpha Tony in his car that they drive right into the garage. It was a little odd because they didn't have their garage connected to the house. A few moments later Mrs Phipps walked out a little tipsy and Fiona could tell what was going on.

But the moment Mrs Phipps noticed Fiona she was punished to sit on her knees all night long. Of course, she didn't talk about this to anyone. What happens in the home wasn't her problem. Past that day Fiona requested her employer to let her work on the weekends too.

The only piece of clothing that had no holes was her work uniform. She did try to buy better pieces from thrift stores but Chelsea would always take them out of her closet.

Chelsea and Beatrice always went to the ball hoping their mate would belong to the capital. Fiona never landed any other job. No matter how much Fiona tried to convince Mrs Phipps for her to join some courses for the office job she never let her join any. In dark feral, there was no wifi or internet. There were no means available for her to upgrade her skills.

Fiona didn't want a better place to work in. If anything she wanted to work behind the desk in the restaurant she was working for nine years now. It might get her interaction with the people even less. The café was run by an old lady named Liz who too was more of the less talkative person and wanted the things same between Fiona and her.

The day Chelsea found her mate was the best day in Fiona's life. It was as if she will have something to worry less about. But the moment she realized that her mate was someone royal Fiona could see the end reaching her. She knew royal meant Thomas could be here too at the wedding.

Mrs Phipps asked Fiona to stay away from the home and sleep at the restaurant. And, Fiona didn't have any problem. Royals were coming to Dark feral. A place not suited for them.

Fiona would run to the hill peak every night and try to do the self-talk. She has changed a lot. She knew Thomas couldn't recognize her. Her hair was black and she started wearing the lens too. And, bought a lot of strong body sprays to make sure he doesn't get her whiff. Though a lot of time had passed she didn't have any trust in her luck. She would try to give her pep talk to not flinch if it ever came to have a look at Thomas. Though Mrs Phipps had asked her to stay at the restaurant that was too far from their home, the mere thought that Thomas could be here had her breathing laboured nowadays.

She would look at the moon and feel as if it was mocking her. She always knew she had nowhere to go. But Fiona still lied and got herself here.

It seems like after forever when she didn't have Chelsea texting her and asking about her whereabouts. It was as if Chelsea was never there, to begin with.

Almost every other home was repairing their place in Dark Feral. And, with this came more people in the pack to get work. And, even more orders from the restaurants. An airport was built and a club, that could be worthy to host the royals. All of it was backed by Capital itself. Tony was even more dotted on Ivory given she was going to be related to the royal family. Not just any distant relative of the royal family but the family itself. The second son of the king was to be related to Dark feral. A lot of clearing was allotted for the royals to make their estates here. A wedding no one had ever seen was coming to commence. The pack was changed like never before and Chelsea was the focus of attention everywhere.

Mrs Phipps had her all money spent on the botox and skin treatments. Fiona knew because she had delivered the pizza boxes at the clinic too. The wedding was to happen in six months and even this time was considered too short.

Yes, Fiona didn't know what her expertise was as a werewolf but she could swear no one could ride the bicycle faster than her. If there was anything that lasted long with her it was her bicycle.

Sometimes Fiona would stare at the new houses that were coming into being for the royals to stay. She couldn't help but only imagine how capital now must have looked.

The newspaper was filled with Chelsea's pictures everywhere. Fiona on the other hand never thought about having a mate. She has seen her father cheating on his mate. She has seen Paula leaving Troy to escape death. She has heard how this bond was a blessing for the chosen ones but knew how her mate if there will be any will be the most unfortunate one. And, will reject her at the spot.

Fiona inhaled looking at the moon goddess. She doesn't know when she became this courageous to look at the moon but sometimes she feels that the moon goddess too was doing nothing but looking back at her. And, it always told her that she has nowhere to go. She was meant for the hell no matter what.

It was a few weeks before the wedding when Fiona learns about a vacancy outside her pack. It was in the nearby pack where Liz's brother was running a pizza place too. He was in the dire need of a delivery man and was short on the staff. Though her pack had a lot of work too Fiona couldn't help requesting Liz. Anywhere outside the Dark feral, she knew it would be safe.

The nearby pack didn't have airports and if anything she was sure no royal will set a foot in a place without airports. If not all the royals she could say this about Thomas.

Fiona knew Mrs Phipps wasn't going to give a care. If anything she was going to be happy that Fiona was even leaving the pack during the time in which celebrations were supposed to be at their peaks. So, Fiona took a little liberty in not asking her permission.

Fiona packed her little stuff and was convinced she might settle there. With Chelsea gone no one was going to give care about Fiona living there. And, as for the identity, Fiona knew that no one here knows her name. She was called shit, slut or sick. Only Liz had the decency to call her 'delivery'.

Liz's brother, Simon let her sleep in the kitchen. Simon didn't only give her the delivery task but also let her use the kitchen to help the chef too. What took Fiona by surprise was how this pack had people coming too. It seems many people were coming to stay here because they couldn't get a place in Dark Feral. It only told Fiona how huge this event was going to be. This pack, named Gotham was famous for the scenery and the love of people for throwing theme events. People were sure here to have fun and relax prior to the big event.

It was a full moon night a week later. Fiona had already gotten accustomed to the new area and even the restaurant was timed to close down soon. Fiona had already delivered the last order and came back to notice how Simon's assistant was locking the shop. Fiona nodded at him and used the back door to get in and locked the door from inside.

Fiona was about to change when the cell phone rang. "Hello?" Fiona asked and it was Simon on the other side. "Hey, girl, I want you to deliver another order."

Fiona looked at the clock and it was only forty minutes before twelve. She was never strong enough to change easily and always needed time. It was a full moon night. Everyone had the off. Plus, staying out after twelve on the full moon was never her thing. She knew she was weak and didn't want to invite trouble. "But..." Fiona tried to say but Simon was quick to tell her. "It's just three pizzas. How hard it can be? Go, deliver and come back. It's not like someone will look at you." And, it made Fiona wonder if Simon had never noticed how she was so weak to stay out on the full moon after twelve.

Fiona started making the dough and tried for two other delivery men. She wanted to ask for a favour but it seems everyone was busy with their family and was not returning the work calls. She hated how Simon had started believing his restaurant could stay open for twenty-four hours just because she was living here. At least, he could have the decency to not ask her today. On the night of the full moon when there were going to be stray wolves out.

Fiona hated how this place was forty minutes away. No matter how strong her deodorant was she knew she could be sensed on the full moon. Everyone had their senses even stronger on the full moon. Fiona stopped in front of a nice-sized mansion that seemed to be blowing up with the music. Teenager girls could be spotted out but Fiona knew they were the kind of people who had brothers, mates or friends to look out for them. She, on the other hand, had no one.

It was only a minute before midnight when she rang the bell. A guy came out and had his mood turned off. "Who keeps ordering pizzas? You get the call. You better figure out who called you. I am not paying." That guy said and left the door open.

"No, sir it is already paid...sir..." Fiona tried to call but he didn't pay any attention. She tried to call the number that was there in the message Simon forwarded her but no one picked up.

It was already twelve and Fiona could sense a few people turning and other people cheering. Fiona could sense there was no danger. If anything they had girls here and whoever threw this party knew he had to look out nothing bad happens. Fiona could tell it was safe here to stay a few minutes than to take her bike back to the restaurant. Fiona got in to find a hundred or more people roaming around. Some dancing or other playing besides the pool. Fiona could tell from here the water was cold to let the heat off.

Fiona was looking for the kitchen counter when she felt something in the air. She could tell there were superior breeds here. She could sense more than one alphas. The vibe got only thicker and she looked around only to find nothing out of ordinary. Everyone seemed to be enjoying and having fun. A few of them were turning beside the pool already. Fiona got the pizzas on the kitchen counter and heard someone calling her.

"I ordered it." A tall blonde walked toward her noticing her work t-shirt and was about to get pissed at how late she was when Fiona notice Sami beside that blonde.

"Oh we have got slut here...don't we?" Sami told Fiona and snickered but Fiona felt dizzy all of a sudden. "I am sorry. I have to go." Fiona said passing them. She could take notice of their little growls but knew there was something else she was supposed to be worried about. She felt light-headed and wondered if it was because she was about to change but no it wasn't like it. She had never felt like this before.

Fiona came to a halt noticing her wolf walking in her consciousness. For the first time, Fiona could feel her. Her wolf was trying to make her presence known to Fiona. She was trying to link with her. She wasn't growling in her mind. She wasn't silent.

Fiona was quick to take notice of her anxiety and looked around wondering what was troubling her insides. Fiona tried to walk away wondering if there was something her she-wolf wanted to tell her. Though she had never communicated with her she never made her presence this known before too.

The music only got louder in a moment and the lights got blue and red. The crowd started cheering but Fiona got out and was crossing the pool area to walk to the clearing ahead to have a moment with her wolf. Though Fiona was trying to make her way out carefully when she came into the lawn some guy was pushed back and got in her way. Fiona hit his back and fell on her butt. The guy she hit into didn't even turn to look at her and Fiona got up only to get her eyes glued to where the crowd was looking too. Fiona noticed a guy standing who seemed to be in his early twenties on the balcony. He had his leather jacket on but Fiona could tell he was an alpha. She could sense he was someone more powerful but couldn't really point to what it was he had differently. The energy didn't match anyone she knew before. She wanted to look away but same as other people he had her attention without doing much.

"This is so boring here, Gothams, why not roam this city all wild tonight." The guy almost growled on the mic and the crowd cheered but Fiona couldn't decipher what she was feeling at the moment. Her heartbeat was fast like never before. The guy had a sly smile on and turned as if he didn't have to break his bones in the process. His shift was swift to the point it seemed it happened in a movie. He made it look so easy. Fiona took a step back overwhelmed with the sensation so foreign to her. And, it was at the same time her wolf growled her very first word in Fiona's mind. "Mate!"
